Angelina Jolie Mingles With the Troops
Angelina Jolie waves and smiles during a visit to a US military base in the heavily guarded Green Zone in central Baghdad, where she visited the canteen for lunch and mingled with troops.
Angie was in the Iraqi capital on Thursday, in her role as a United Nations good will ambassador, on a mission to highlight the plight of Iraqi refugees.
Watch the video of Angie eating for two (or three!) at TMZ.
And if you missed the CNN interview, Angie was almost asked about her pregnancy:
CNN: There are reports out of Hollywood that… (laughs)
Jolie: Oh don’t. Stop it. (interrupts I had to ask) Stay true to your tradition. You’re CNN. Don’t do it!
CNN: I know that’s why I have to… (laughs)
Jolie: But I don’t have to answer. OK?
CNN: No you don’t. I completely and totally … you’re right and will not press the matter.
Jolie: Thank you.

thanks to #265 for posting that commentary up there. i think that perfectly summed up why i love angie so much. i mean, there are plenty of celebrities involves in humanitarian works and activism, but the way she chooses to conduct herself is incredibly rare in the industry.
angie could have put on gorgeous gowns and throw elaborate galas, but she chose to don bullet-proof vest instead and sit among the individuals who are actually involved in the conflict and partake in their story.
i am drawn by the very same authenticity and rawness that she personally holds in high esteem.

…There is another effective way to stabilize Iraq, just as effective as any troop surge, and it is to send the refugees home to reclaim their country. When these 4 million people are back in their homes busy rebuilding their lives, I can bet you they won’t put up with any militant bs from al Qaeda outsiders. They will chase the militants out of Iraq better than brigades after brigades of US infantry.
Send them home to what??? Many have left and vowed never to return. Their homes/properties have been destroyed, there are no jobs, no infrastructure. The Christian community especially has suffered. They’ve been expelled from their homes, harassed, raped, beaten, ordered to convert to Islam. Iraq’s Christian community is on the verge of extinction. I’ve seen an Iraqi Christian on TV saying that the Christian community had it good under Saddam Hussein!
it’s very foolish for the US to ignore Iraq’s refugee population.
I agree! For starters, the coalition should rebuild what they have destroyed!
There you have a literally captive audience, willing recruits to the American cause if they are treated well and given a chance to better their lives.
Don’t patronize people! Many Iraqis want the coalition (’infidels’) out. Many of them accuse the coalition of destroying their lives, destroying their country, killing and maiming their relatives, just there because of their oil!
I’m sure there are Iraqis who work with and for the coalition. When the coalition leaves, these people will be in danger. The coalition has divided the Iraqi population.
When the issue is given proper priority, it will be solved. When it is recognized as an integral component of American victory in Iraq, it will be solved. It’s all about political will.
What do you consider an American victory? The Iraqi government giving lucrative 100-year concessions to American oil companies only?

McCain/Jolie. That’s the ticket.

You wish! Isn’t AJ a liberal?
163 fierce @ 02/07/2008 at 3:58 pm
…she seeks media attention as a way to make herself feel like some kind of saint or good person.

How do you know that? Why do you say that? Stop and think! Aren’t you a bit silly?
She is definitely better than you. She is doing her part in improving the lives of refugees. That’s positive. You are criticizing. Very negative.
good for you Ang b/c that was dumb of them to ask!!!! But I’m goin to say with her no comment that’s a yes b/c every other time the rumors have went around she would always so “no” …….I can tell by looking at her she is but I’ve just got that gift. I don’t think it’s twins though………….

Miranda get a life. You’re not a fan but you’re the first one posting on the thread of a person you hate. Just admit that you hate it that Angelina is well respected and admired for what she’s doing concerning the refugees. Get lost!!
She was number 15 not the first one to post and she has a right to her opinion. You need a chill pill, maybe xanax?
