Angelina Jolie Mingles With the Troops

Angelina Jolie waves and smiles during a visit to a US military base in the heavily guarded Green Zone in central Baghdad, where she visited the canteen for lunch and mingled with troops.

Angie was in the Iraqi capital on Thursday, in her role as a United Nations good will ambassador, on a mission to highlight the plight of Iraqi refugees.

Watch the video of Angie eating for two (or three!) at TMZ.

And if you missed the CNN interview, Angie was almost asked about her pregnancy:

CNN: There are reports out of Hollywood that… (laughs)

Jolie: Oh don’t. Stop it. (interrupts I had to ask) Stay true to your tradition. You’re CNN. Don’t do it!

CNN: I know that’s why I have to… (laughs)

Jolie: But I don’t have to answer. OK?

CNN: No you don’t. I completely and totally … you’re right and will not press the matter.

Jolie: Thank you.

AfricanGirl!
I am from Togo!!

Benin is the cradle of artisans.

On the subject of using current laws to be used while specific laws are enacted, can’t the FBI investigate threats made to children such as in the baby of Charles Lindberg being kidnapped and killed be used to turn up the heat on all publications of any threat?
God protect all children and that includes the children of war.

Peace

Look at Angelina and what Angelina has achieved. Then look at x and what x has done. Do we need explanation on why Brad left x for Angelina?

No!

…I truly feel sorry for the people that think they know celebrities on an intimate level.
Anyone in paricular here in JJ you’re talking about? I know there’s a lot of them posting in FF.

Soo much respect to her!!! She’s one of a kind. Come home soon.

I like and respect the way she handled the question. I believe it should not have been asked but I believe that news now believe that the viewers can not pay attention to real issues for long. They are wrong

Holy shiiit! I’m right?
This is fun! Thank you.
I wasn’t so sure because as a friend said the sentence construction is kinda “diff”, err different.

tabitha @ 02/06/2008 at 1:51 am Malaya/Passing Thru. Are you talking about this person being someone who name starts with an S and initially fooled many regulars to her true personality.

Hi tabita. No. This is another one. She goes back way before “s” begun posting here.

# 615 tabitha @ 02/06/2008 at 2:13 am That’s OK. I make typos all the time. I’m trying to figure out who else it could be. I’m sure I am going to say Duh when I finally found who this person is.
______________-

correct. “s” is me. I can confirm that it’s not me trolling. I did something I regret in the email group. It was really bad and I hate what I did. Internet makes you behave in a wierd manner. I still come here as a fan. I went back to lurking (safer that way for my own sake) but I write a comment or two when I want to share a thought. I’m sure Jared can back this up.

GOD BLESS YOU, ANGIE.

I’m so tired of her and her hypocrisy. If she can’t make peace with her own father how can she really be taken seriously as an emissary of peace and goodwill for the planet?

God bless Angelina Jolie.

MIRANDA,go buy a life and live somewhere outside earth! So you
love to hate celebrities and of course it has to be Angelina since
she is the most beautiful of them all. It’s yourself you hate, look at
the mirror. Just disappear or something,OK!

Her work for the UNHCR, raising awareness for the plight of refugees,
has nothing to do with her relationship with her father.

She should just say if she is; it’s stupid.

Geez…some of you people are really obsessed with this, aren’t you? I kind of have to laugh because this particular person has been playing both ends of the field for a very long time now - as far back as March 2006. Frankly I’m stunned that no one else was onto her shenanigans.

It’s been pointed out to me by several people that the writing styles involved here are different…but that’s not very hard to do if you know how. That’s all I’m going to say about it, though, because I’m supposed to be out of the troll unmasking business. I slipped the other night and forgot I said that. I was just annoyed the other day that this person has played this game for over 2 years and apparently hasn’t grown tired of it yet. Pretty scary, huh? And sad at the same time…

Btw for the record, Brad admitted that the marriage did not end because the X did not want kids. Was he lying or are you??

++++++++++++++++

I can’t believe I’m going to respond to the known troll, but damn…I LIKE shooting fish in a barrel…

Brad was not lying. X desire or lack thereof for kids was a moot point. BRAD DID NOT WANT X TO HAVE AND/OR BE THE MOTHER OF HIS CHILDREN. He said as much on Charlie Rose, “I always knew I’d have children when the time was right. And obviously it felt right HERE.” Here=Angie NOT X.

Her job is to bring attention to the plight of refugees. It’s bound to bring attention to her too. So what? Does it hurt you?
Their kids are her and Brad’s responsibility. Don’t worry. I bet they’re doing just fine.

Uh, Why do I have the feeling that Arwa badly wants to believe that Angie is pregnant??

The UNHCR appreciates the work AJ does for refugees. Colin Powell said that she is serious, and she knows the issues. She REALLY knows what’s going on. This is her 7th year as a goodwill ambassador. She has done more, much more than, for example, Giorgio Armani, another goodwill ambassador for the UNHCR!
She had meetings with the military bosses and I’m sure all the guys enjoy celebs visiting and have lunch with them. Recently Scarlett J was there and now AJ.

You think she not doing anything important, but if you were one of the refugees, you’d appreciate it that there are people who care enough to work to improve life for refugees and displaced people.

I know what your problem is. You want what she has!
Well, offer to work for a UN agency, then you will be in the news too, complete with your picture, if the media likes you. It would help if you become a famous movie star first.
You can’t have Brad. His focus is Angie He said so.

Angie is surrounded by civilians in the Green Zone. They look like State Department people. I wish she could see the real soldiers, the ones that are down in the “trenches.” I’m sure some of them would appreciate seeing her. Those civilian contractors are the ones that make the six figures in Iraq. The ground soldiers, the ones in the dirt and Forward Operating Bases are the ones who should have the opportunity to see her; not the clean, “behind-the-wires” ones. Oh, well, at least she’s over there doing her part to give her support for the displaced masses.

Give Angelina some credit. She knows she doesn’t have all the answers. OTOH, because of her trip we are talking about Iraqi refugees for a few minutes today, aren’t we?

Here’s something for us all to chew on: I recently interviewed for a job at a major US military school for advanced studies. One of the attractions for me at the school is a center for reconstruction and stabilization studies. But to my disappointment, not to mention amazement, the center is close to shutting down for the lack of interest. Classes offered by the program draw only 4 or 5 students each, in a school where the typical class has 35+ students! But then it was explained to me that reconstruction and relief missions are not considered choice assignments for military officers. You don’t get stars on your shoulders for building schools. You get them for killing people - uh I mean enemies.

A little factoid to remember here is that the bulk of Palestinian militants came from the various refugee camps. Refugee camps had traditionally been a fertile ground for extremist recruitment. There is another effective way to stabilize Iraq, just as effective as any troop surge, and it is to send the refugees home to reclaim their country. When these 4 million people are back in their homes busy rebuilding their lives, I can bet you they won’t put up with any militant bs from al Qaeda outsiders. They will chase the militants out of Iraq better than brigades after brigades of US infantry.

it’s very foolish for the US to ignore Iraq’s refugee population. There you have a literally captive audience, willing recruits to the American cause if they are treated well and given a chance to better their lives. Hello Condoleza Rice, John McCain, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, are you all listening???

When the issue is given proper priority, it will be solved. When it is recognized as an integral component of American victory in Iraq, it will be solved. It’s all about political will.

I can’t believe I am sounding more and more like Richard Nixon, but there’s no way out of Iraq except Peace with Honor. And this time the stakes are much higher. We sure as hell didn’t learn the lesson of the Vietnam before the war. But let’s hope it’s not too late to learn the lesson now that the war is well in its 5th year.

PS: Didn’t mean to leave out Mike Huckabee

Angelina has been named most liked celebrity humanitarian by a recent Reuters poll. That means people find her genuine and heartfelt. (Of course we didn’t need no stikin poll to tell us that but it’s nice anyway.)

According to Peter Walker, director of the Feinstein International Famine Center at Tufts University, people are impressed with how authentic she is. “People aren’t stupid,” he said. “They can really sense when it’s just an endorsement and when somebody really means it. Someone like Angelina Jolie comes across as having more integrity than some celebrities and a greater sense that she doesn’t just do this for the publicity.”

Polsters seemed particularly impressed with Angie’s work on behalf of international refugees. Since becoming a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador, she’s visited 20 crisis spots throughout the world. Most visited camps in Iraq.

“She does this in a very low-key way,” said UNHCR spokesman Peter Kessler. “She goes out to see for herself, to get up close and very personal. She doesn’t travel with film crews, and I think that is real testimony to her dedication to the cause.”
