Two-time Oscar nominee Roy Scheider died Sunday at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was 75.
The hospital did not release a cause of death. Wikipedia “reports” he died of complications from a staph infection. Scheider had been treated for multiple myeloma at the hospital’s Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy for the past two years.
Scheider is best known for his roles as a police chief in the blockbuster movie Jaws and captain Nathan Bridger of the eponymous high-tech submarine SeaQuest DSV.

I first noticed him in Marathon Man, but feel in love with him in All That Jazz. That is one of my favorite movies. RIP Roy.
Great actor. He has one of my all time favorite movie lines. From Jaws, when he first spots the shark, backs up and says ” We need a bigger boat” His face is priceless in that scene…
RIP.

You did good work while here on this planet. You will be missed.
Sleep in peace.
Roy Scheider was a great everyman actor, either as Chief Martin Brody in Jaws as a concerned father/husband/shark hunter, or as a philandering husband who paints himself into a dangerous corner in 52 Pick-Up.
Scheider always had the goods Thanks for entertaining me for years Roy
R.I.P
I loved this man!! He will be sadly missed!!
R.I.P.
He caused me never to swim in ocean water again!
Jaws was awesome and unforgettable. Lots of people had trouble going in the water that summer of 1975. Jaws orginated the term “Summer Blockbuster” for Hollywood and took in $470 million worldwide. It cost $12 million. Some cash cow. It put Speilberg, Schieder and Dreyfuss on the A List. French Connection is a cinematic classis - not only great acting but utilizing innovative sound, camera and lighting techniques.
Scheider helped make Hollywood history…Thanks Roy, you entertained us with great talent, skill and panache. You will be missed.
Heh. I appreciate the quotes around Wikipedia’s “reporting.”
