It’s Official — The Writers Strike is Over
The writers strike is officially over. Wahoo!
The Writers Guild of America lifted the strike a bit before 7p.m. PST.
“The strike is over,” WGA West president Patric Verrone said. “Our membership has voted, and writers can go back to work. This was not a strike we wanted, but one we had to conduct in order to win jurisdiction and establish appropriate residuals for writing in new media and on the Internet. Those advances now give us a foothold in the digital age. Rather than being shut out of the future of content creation and delivery, writers will lead the way as TV migrates to the Internet and platforms for new media are developed.”

I think the writers proved how important they are to all those who just want to profit from them and not take them seriously. It’s always a show with good writing that does well — those poorly written are canceled, or movies bomb.
I don’t think the greedy producers want to go through all this again when the actors’ contracts are up and might not be so willing to be stubborn this time around. And the way the actors supported the writers, the writers will support the actors, so the producers better get ready to negotiate.
