Without fail America has once again handed over its hard earned money (or, in the case of one movie, the parents’ hard earned money) to the worst new movies released. Leave it to clever trailer editing and dance-driven teenagers to take sloppy sci-fi and something that should have been direct-to-DVD straight to the top.
With and estimated $27 million Jumper made its debut at the number one spot, something that shouldn’t be too surprising. It launched itself with a rocking trailer featuring Samuel L. Jackson spouting sharp one-liners and Hayden Christensen looking every bit the Ken doll action figure moving his way through sharp special effects. There were two options: it was either an engaging piece of sci-fi or a sleepy action movie in sci-fi clothing. When it hit theaters, it turned out to be the latter. But it was too late for audiences who didn’t know what hit them. We’ll know how beloved it truly is next week when it either sinks or swims into a second week.
The real shocker this weekend was the success of Step Up 2 The Streets. At nearly $20 million, the movie almost matched the opening cash earned by the original Step Up. While I’m just as amazed at the next person at the amazing feats of dance acrobatics that the cast puts one, the movie has “direct-to-DVD” written all over it. But movie studios apparently know teenage audiences well enough to gamble that kids will pay to watch anything if it involves other teens in tight clothes doing the hip-hop version of a Cirque-du-Soleil show. Who needs things like plot and acting when your main characters can spin on their head?

The number one film of the weekend is Jumper, Doug Liman’s (The Bourne Identity, Go) first foray into science fiction. Jumper, which looks like it could have been interesting had it not starred Pinocchio himself, Hayden Christensen, opened to an only okay $27.2 million from 3,428 venues. It had a three-day venue average of $7,942. Jumper got off to a fair start on Valentine’s Day, earning $6.6 million and leading the pack. This could be considered a solid start for a non-Star Wars Hayden Christensen flick, as Darth Vader has been in zero significant films since the Star Wars prequels finished up. Personally, I was excited by the trailer for Jumper, but can’t get past the fact that they chose Christensen for the lead. Christensen is the new Paul Walker, another actor I would cross the street to avoid. Critics agreed, and Jumper got lambasted by reviewers everywhere. At RottenTomatoes, things were extremely ugly for Jumper. Of the 105 reviews counted, only a scant 16 were positive leading to an overall rotten rating of 15%. Of the top critics in the nation, only 3% of those reviews were positive (one positive out of 30 possible). For the desired demographic of boys aged 21 and younger, reviews aren’t going to matter, but to establish a franchise, things have to go better than they did. Such poor reviews are somewhat of a surprise for director Liman, who has seen some success with critics. Franchise launcher The Bourne Identity was Liman’s, and it opened to $27 million in 2002. It went on to earn $125 million domestically and over $210 million worldwide. Mr. & Mrs. Smith didn’t start a franchise, but did garner a 60% fresh rating and opened to $50 million before going on to earn almost $500 million worldwide. Jumper is not going to be a legs film, and if it can get to $100 million, I think that would be considered a very large victory for Liman and Fox.
the most exciting video ever.

snore. snore. snore
all the people on here writing that they “love” rachel, don’t have any idea of what she is like in actuality… she is NOT the sweet person you think she is.
@a
I never trusted her “being sweet”. She knows very well what she wants and how she has to manipulate people (especially men) to get it.
wouldn’t a car like that have more than 1 row of seats in the row that hayden is sitting in ? just wanna make sure before i get my hope up !
I looooooooove rachel!!!
a person rly needs to be a useless person in life to have time to pick every bad review out there and write them here.
LOL ^that’s probably the only other thing they’re good at ,other than popping all their zits
@André
Or this person, just like the rest of us, is sick and tired with fans who think that Rachel can do no wrong and is such a big talent.
In the last year or so we’ve seen endless pictures of Rachel’s in this blog and others, all praising her for being cute and declaring she’s the next big star, conditioning us to think that she’s going to make it big, when actually all she’s good at is being pretty and fashionable. She’s not a good actress, she never was and she never will be. I’m glad someone FINALLY acknowledges it as none of those Rachel loving blogs will.
yeah it’s a good movie rachel looks sweet
@balance
I agree that Bilson just NERVES, and she’s not even that pretty in my eyes… a very rouged average, not more.
Oh, and one of her “own” (payed?!) blogs has left her, read the critic about “Jumper” on PopSugar, it’s big fun! ;-)
@Andre
Actually nearly every Jumper review out there is a bad one. 8 out of every 10. Wanna read more? They’re all in here.

Oops, sorry… paid I meant of course… Foreigner! LOL
LOL! Those are not Hayden’s Converse Sneakers! Rachel has tiny feet. I sure she only wears a ONLY size 5 shoe or smaller. Hayden wears about 11 or 12 shoe. I think his shoes would be falling off of her!!! She recently bought them to give the illision she is dressing just like Hayden. For this is all she is good @ Media attention seeking and shopping of course. Certainly acting is not one of them!
BTW~I were my son’s old Converse sneakers! A lot of girl’s are wearing them and they are quite comfortable.
VOR, Spider came and started attacking me and I’m not going to take the garbage. The nerve for her to complain what I have done to her! She attacked and harassed Lola Skye too. VOR is a real nutter and it is best to ignore this fool! Once you get on VOR she won’t stop. She is like a rabid dog!
@Smilehexe - its “paid” not payed, working on your 10th yr of 3rd grade, LOL
@notpoppingzits - who really cares what alleged movie critics think, they all hated Ghost Rider, and it made a ton of money, and the critics hated Star Wars Ep 1: The Phantom Menace and Lucas laughed all the way to the bank. Just because the alleged critics like/dislike a certain movie doesn’t mean people will go watch it. I bet movie studio would rather have a movie that makes a ton of money than a movie that wins awards but no one watches it. Gold statues don’t pay the bills. Btw, Andre is definitely right, now you’re posting links to bad reviews, LAME!
@raven
yep rachel would be falling down if she were to wear his shoes. even if she ties them. that would be funny to see. she is so pathetic . yep she is media wh*reing. can i barf now?
as for you you lowlife VOR!! how dare you come on to this board and bash raven or even the others who does not agree. so stick your opinions where the sun does not shine. but then again i bet you can not stick it up that far if you are very limber. BTW don’t pick a fight with an all american southern girl. you would wound up tar and feathered . have a good day now. now that is my two cents. :)
@ Lexi Coop!
Hey! I Like your style.
Rach has worn that top before! The one she was wearing coming out of the liqueur store. Rachel had that top on in the Summer. In the thread in JJ Rachel is fixing a flat tire and had lunch with her mom. I think this was way back in August.
Rachel is like her mom. Mother is small too. Rachel looks the same weight she did in the summer. No visable weight change. She is not thinner and she is not trying to hide a pregnancy wearing a loose top. She wore this top in the summer too. Rachel dresses weird! I actually can’t stand her style. Uuuggghh!! Natalie Portman hands down kicks Rachel’s ass in the pretty petite girl and style department!
Nope! Don’t want to mess with a Southern girl like Lexi and a Southern Californian Raven haired girl either and that is my two cent’s worth! :)
@raven
what style is that pray tell.? my keen fashion sence or is it my southern wits about me? hay i can’t help it if i am a smart allec. lol i seen those pics you sent me. you are right bout that. yep she has a wierd fashion sence. to me she does not have any. hayden on the other hand has good fashion sence. he just wears what makes him feel comfortable. :)
What kind of movies do the oscars go for then?
@ Lexi Coop,
I just had to call my internet service provider! Three day’s of being cut off the internet while inthe middle of posting was ridiculous! Had to call and I was a total smart ass! :) I gave them my two cents worth! :lol:
I love Hayden’s style! No fuss and he does what makes him feel comfortable. I love it when he is scruffy! :D
Which is the hardest award to get out of all?
@raven
you tell them darlin. bet you showed them no mercy!! way to go girl. yeah love the scruffy look. love him in those tess like the ones he wore last summer. you know the ones iam talking bout. how i love sporting his style. :)
What does scruffy mean?
