Daniel Day-Lewis and his wife Rebecca Miller arrive at the 2008 Oscars held at the Kodak Theatre on Sunday in Hollywood.
Day-Lewis, 50, picked up the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his work on There Will Be Blood.

This guy is a genious! He is brillant, soo compelling and gifted. Everytime I watch one of his films I am overwelhmed by his talent he moves me.
He frightens me is a rather decent way. Outstanding.

Johnny Depp was not robbbed. I love Johnny and he is my favorite actor, however, Daniel Day Lewis was phenomenal in There Will Be Blood. He was simply incredible. Johnnt was amazing in Sweeney Todd but DDL definitely deserved to win.

I love him and think he deserved the Oscar. But on a side note, his wife is wearing possibly the ugliest dress I’ve ever seen.
I really liked what he said when he won his Oscar, it wasn’t one of those ‘I prepared this speech - cause I knew I was going to win’ speeches. It was from the heart and he was genuinely happy.
Liked that he kissed George Clooney, lol.

The man exudes class and intelligence. His eloquent speech was so heartfelt, and he seems genuinely surprised and humbled by being honored by his peers, yet he is so gifted that it’s a surprise when he DOESN’T win!
I have never seen him in anything that wasn’t a hugely admirable performance.

Michael Clayton was not shut out. It won a major acting award — Best Supporting Actress for Tilda Swinton.
Atonement was not shut out. It won for best score.
he is just AMAZING! one of the best actors EVER. johnny was good but Daniel was FANTASTIC. he’s just really well rounded and full of heart. his comments regarding his wife? so sweet. i just love this man!
let’s take a moment of silence to remember him running around all hot and sweaty and manly in “last of the mohicans” shall we? oh yes, that’s very nice. drool.
He’s up there with the greats- Brando, Olivier. Very few actors can touch his level of talent. He rarely makes movies but is almost always nominated. That’s how good he is.

Well, his wife is not a bad-looking lady. It would have been better if she had kept her style simpler. She probably had a stylist or designer lead her in the wrong direction because THEY wanted to make a statement. When you’re not used to wearing avant-garde fashion or don’t have that edge attittude(i.e Tilda) then you should always opt to be understated and classy.

He’s comparable to Marlon Brando when it comes to acting chops if not even better as he really picks his roles with great care and does a stupendous performance almost always. He’s an intellectual and a great artiste. Just wishs he made more movies but he says he only can do a movie every couple of years or so because he loses himself in the role and is emotionally drained when it’s over.
My only criticism is the way he looks at the cermonies - pirate earrings, and a hugh grant hair-do (which even hugh has quit wearing). At the BAFTA awards his hair looked like he poored a bottle of olive oil on it before leaving the house…ugh.
Also, agree his wife, Rebecca Miller (daughter of the great playwrite, Arthur Miller) is wearing one of the all time ugliest dresses I’ve ever seen. The only uglier dress at the Oscars was worn by T Swinton. What are these ladies thinking? All that talent, money and no clothes style or taste!
Arthur Miller’s daughter Rebecca is aging well at 45, plus she’s a pretty lady. However, both she and Daniel dressed their feet as if they (the tootsies) were going to a different event than the rest of their bodies.
And Daniel, in-your-face fashion statements at the Oscars are always a touch declasse. Why didn’t you just wear a ponytail and leather jacket to go with the man-bling and brown loafers? You know you wanted to.
I can forgive fashion faux pas in the face of awesome talent. :-) DDL and Rebecca are certainly in that class of eccentric, out there, funky, independent. I hadn’t noticed her shoes before someone mentioned them. His? I think those brown shoes are his lucky awards show shoes. He would never call them that but they certainly seem to come out a lot when he is up for something. The earrings? He wears those all the time now.
His acceptance speech was sweet, and I was happy to hear him mention all his sons by name. A class act all the way.
BTW, he was featured in NY Times magazine a few weeks back, looking awesome in biker leather.
Who cares how they dressed. These two are the real deal, true artists (she’s a director I believe). They are excentric and artsy and don’t give a fig about fancy fashion, they do their thing, their outfit probably says lots about who they are, they LIKE being different and unique. I like that about them, it’s refreshing, the night for them is about his craft and his talent, not who he is wearing. He strikes me as someone who thumbs his nose at high fashion, like Johnny Depp does and Viggo, they are true actors.
His acting is just amazing. He truly deserved to win. His personality, charm, and class shined through his speech. He is greatly talented.
