Marion Cotillard @ Oscars 2008

Modern mermaid Marion Cotillard (in Jean Paul Gaultier) arrives at the 2008 Oscars held at the Kodak Theatre on Sunday in Hollywood.

Cotillard, 32, picked up Best Actress in a Leading Role for her work in La Vie En Rose.

She broke down in years the moment her name was announced. Marion managed to get this out before walking offstage: “Thank you life! Thank you love! It is true there are some angels in this city. Thank you! Thank you so much!”

Jewels by Chopard, clutch by Daniel Swarovski.

# 4

Congratulations to Marion on her win.

# 5

BRILLIANT ACTRESS, HAPPY THAT SHE WON

# 6

Jared, I think you meant she broke down in tears, not years.

# 7

Im so happy she won. I really am. I adore her.

She really deserves it.

It was so nice to see her winning it. I cried.

She is the best

I’m so happy for her! She looked genuinely surprised. Right before she won I said she needs to win just for her amazing physical transformation - Marion is GORGEOUS and had to play someone…..yeah, not that gorgeous, lol. Now I have to see the movie - my French professor loved it and said it was amazing.

I loved her in La Vie en Rose.

But what makes it better was her reaction to her win.

So refreshingly emotional and genuine.

She’s gorgeous!

im sooo happy so many of you think its great that marion won. she was outstandingly amazing as edith piaf in la mome and she totally deserved this award.

she was so genuine on stage. she totally didnt think shed win. Congrats!

That was a beautiful moment. She looked gorgeous, too.

Booooooooooooooooo. A brilliant actress? at what age 24 or 25? Good grief. How many movies has she made? anyone? I would of been happy if any of the other women won. Laura Linney should of gotten it…she has made so many good movies. Jennifer Hudson has a lot of comments on here under her name that apply here regarding this award last year going to her…another brillant actress?geeeez

YAYYY i’m so happy she won!
i knew right after i saw the film that she deserved an oscar
and she looks absolutely stunning!

vive la mome marion!

Congrats on good work in a great film.

I loved her speech Congrats on the win you deserved it

shiela u idiota she’s 32, and has made over 32, the fact that u dont watch french movies doesnt mean she hasnt been in the film industry for a while and is perfectly deserving of the award !

Totally deserving. And to think she wasn’t the frontrunner and there was less hype about her than the other nominees.

for #13
look on IMDB marion has done a lot of movies , 43 projects in fact
she’s 32 !
congrats marion for your award, it’s totally deserved!
she’s beautiful

im glad the academy has chosen sheer power of performance over hype and age.

C TROP FORT!
T LA MEILLEURE ACTRICE!
UNE FRANCAISE GAGNE AUX OSCARS C TROP BEAU!
ELLE A TOUT GAGNE DANS LE MONDE ET QUELLE FILM MAGNIFIQUE! ELLE A TOUT DONNE DEDANS!
QUELLE PERFORMANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!
LA SCENE OU ELLE PLEURE LA MORT DE MARCEL CERDAN M’A EFFONDRE JE PLEURE A CHAQUE FOIS QUE JE LA REVOIS!!!

she is soooooooo beautiful, brilliant actress, i love her and i am soooooooooo happy that she won the oscar. congr. to her.

and she deserved the oscar.

and i love her hair do and her dress is absolutely beautiful.

She won thanks to the Weinstein brothers they are the one who helped her without them she was nothing.

I love it when the underdog wins. In this age of empty celebrity and actresses being known more for the publicity hype than for actual real talent her win is so refreshing.

je suis tellement ravi qu’elle a gagne!!! bravo marion. je suis un peu decu guillaume n’etait pas a cote de toi!

Well said, homey!

Marion gave one of the best performance in oscar history.
Congrats!
very well-deserved!

For once the Oscars get it right. Marion gives the most incredible performance I have ever seen as Edith Piaf. Well done!

i am glad she won the oscar she deserved it, and she is so gorgeous, and i loved her hair do and her dress was absolulety beautiful.

So well deserved. I didn’t see this one coming. I just didnt’ think they would honor her in this category, thought it would be under foreign film or something.

No one deserved it more. Best dressed of the night too! She is so amazing.

Sheila you are an idiot. You should not comment of things you know nothing about. She has been in the French film industry for a very long time. Look it up smarty pants.

she seemed very likeable…watching her after-oscar interview and said she felt weird for a month of talking about herself because it’s not something she wants to do…she thinks that the movie should be able to just speak for itself…so all the campaigning is weird for her because they don’t do that in France.

Congrats to all the winners!

gorgeous dress, she’s beautiful

so to win an Oscar a beautiful actress has to play dress up ugly hmmm…..

Absolutely brilliant actress!!! I love her! Great performance! Can’t describe my joy when they announced her name! I literally had an ****** of the heart!!! :D

Congratulations to Marion! What a charming and delightful person. She is a welcome breath of fresh air to these ceremonies and I hope to see much more of her. (Can’t believe how well she has learned to speak English. Must be hard.)

Yayy I’m so happy she won! I’m french so I’m very proud she, as a french actress I love, could win an Oscar, it’s so huge! I’ve almost seen all of her movies and she’s the best ever, she has a real talent, which is being rare in France now… And this is totally random, but my name’s Marion too, so it makes me love her even more haha! Congrats!!

loved her in “Love me if you dare!” She’s a great actress and wowza, what a dress.

She looks super great ! <3

Wonderful , Breath Taking. see la mome its exuleratin i kid u not!

She deserved it more than anybody this year. She is authentic and her speech was beautiful. Congratulations to Marion!

all who think she didn’t deserve this win (shiela/zim) obviously have not yet seen the movie. Marion was amazing in the role of Edith… and for such a beautiful actress to go through that transformation was mesmerizing!

anonymous @ 02/25/2008 at 1:26 am

we all know she deserved the oscar , except for couple of jealous haters and it is so transparent where their jealousy coming from so we better ignor those two.

Orange soda @ 02/25/2008 at 1:29 am

she is amazing… I love her movies! and I am super glad she won!! She deseved it!

postwatcher @ 02/25/2008 at 1:31 am

Ariel called…she wants her fin back.

lisa lorcan @ 02/25/2008 at 1:32 am

Lovely actress…toatlly deserving and a refreshing and sweet sweet acceptance speech. So happy she won and NOT Julie Christie who had on a orange ribbon in solidarity with the ACLU to close the prison in Guantano bay……NO ONE wants your politics at the Oscars.

My favorite performance of the year!! So glad she was recognized.
She was utterly brilliant!! Still thought Angie should have been nominated too. Ellen Page needs to pay more dues. Why do they nominate so young? I disagree with that. Give her time to prove herself and build a body of work.

Of course she was surprised ! She wasn’t sure at all she was going to win it, because she was a French actress, with a French movie. She won, the Bafta, the Golden Globe, the César and now the Oscar. She didn’t let room for anyone else, and I’m so glad ! She’s, like, the best actress in the whole world, and she’s French ! That makes everything in the right place ’cause French people invented (kind of) the Cinema ! I love you Marion ! I knew you were going to win !

Congratulations Marion, for your best performance, you are so deserved this Oscars. Bravo!!!!!!!

Didn’t see this movie, but I really like her from all the interviews and her acceptance speech. She seems very sweet, sincere and humble. Our actresses can take a cue from her.

shiela, first Marion Cotillard is 32 and she did like 20 movies or more.
You seems to be of those americans who don’t get this kind of talent and this kind of movie. If you only had seen La vie en Rose, you would have understood. GO MARION!

Bravo Marion!!! Toute la France est fière de toi!!

not the greatest dress…but she does look gorgeous in it. i love her hair…im also glad she won, yay for her!

she’s truly unbelievable in la vie en rose, and the most ravishingly beautiful woman of the night!!!!!!!

Like I’ve said before: Marion is a beautiful copy of Angelina Jolie’s mother Marcheline Bertrand (R.I.P)

The dress would most likely only work on her!

I m so Happy for her, she’s vey nice and simple girl !! I was with her saturday night in Paris for the french Oscar (Cesar) Dont change Marion, you’re great ! You can see the picture on my site !

WICKEDLY BEAUTIFUL
YOWZA

BravOooOoo mariOooon !!!!!!!!!!!!
Et une française parmi les étoiles….

i like the dress, its fun and non-traditional without being swan-crazy

héhé!!!! la france a tout déchiré!!!!
félicitations!!

remember da truth @ 02/25/2008 at 8:05 am

She was so amazing in that movie — not just the transformation of having to play someone over 25 years of their life, or for singing, but for the emotion and facial expressions that conveyed so much.
Everyone made a big deal out of Angelina Jolie’s scream when Daniel Pearl died in A Mighty Heart, but Marion Cotillard’s reaction to her lover dying was gut-wrenching.

the fool who said it should be an award for a whole career instead of just one movie doesn’t even understand what the award is for! But if you want to see another movie she’s in, in English, rent A Good Year with Russell Crowe. She’s funny and COMPLETELY different, and you will see how talented this lovely lady is.

Her speech left me sobbing with joy. She is so genuine and natural and endearing.

Tu le mérites ! Bravo Marion !

Just because you are closed in your americanizerd world and don’t are accostuùed to other culkture doesn’t means that Marion is not brilliant.

She is actually an accomplished European movie star who manages to speak several languages. The daughter of a French actress and French director who has several foreign movies under her belt.

The fact that she could so convincely translate the emotions of one of the biggest international star of the late century, one of the caliber of the Maurice Chevalier, Charles Aznavour, Sinatra for the Americans, is telling.

She deserves it more than any other actrices out there. Like foreigner press said, she was so convincing that they thought that it was made up of a documentary with the real edith Piaff while it was Marion who did it all !

Once again, bravo Marion ! You deserve it !

she was so beautiful and truly amazed…loved it
made me remember jennifer hudosn fake emotions last year..which was hideous.

stunning and sweet!

Congratulations to Miss Cotillard! A stunning performance. I had never heard of her before I saw La Vie En Rose, and didn’t know until later that she was actually young and beautiful! Congrats to the makeup people on the film who also won an Oscar…amazing work!

I hope we non- Europeans will have the pleasure of seeing much more of Marion in the future.

Bravo Marion !
La France t’aime pour ce que tu viens de recevoir !
Et tu le mérites amplement!
Décidément ce film c’est vraiment le film de ta vie…
Congratulations :)

I AM SO HAPPY !!!! I LOVE THIS ACTRESS, AND I AM VERY PROUD TO BE FRENCH LIKE HER lol

I didn’t see her film yet, but i’m going to see it, i am sure he is very very amazing

But i love every films where she were (L)

Marion, t’es la meilleure ON T’AIIIIIIIME <3

Attention French fans:
Not all of us Americans live in an “Americanized” world. Note that the majority of posters who live in the US really love Marion Cotillard as well. And some of us knew who she was before “La Vie En Rose”!

Sheila: I suggest you head over to Netflix or your local video store and check out some of Ms. Cotillard’s work (I suggest “Pretty Things” where she plays twins or “Love Me If You Dare” - better than ANY American romantic comedy). Hopefully, Sheila, becoming more educated about who you are criticizing will make you eat your words!

Hi
great

you can see her dress by Gaultier, her clutch by Svarowski on the website http://www.fashions-addict.com

enjoy

CONGRATULATIONS MARION @ 02/25/2008 at 3:12 pm

“She is the third French actress to win an Academy Award for Best Actress. Her predecessors are Claudette Colbert and Simone Signoret. She is the first Best Actress winner in a non-English language performance since Sophia Loren’s win in 1961 for her performance in Two Women. She is also the first and so far only winner of an Academy Award for a performance in the French language.” (WIKIPEDIA).

I WISH YOU A BRILLIANT FUTURE.

justa mia @ 02/25/2008 at 3:17 pm

I saw La Vie en Rose when it first played here in the US and was knocked out by Marion’s portrayal of the fabulous and tragic Edith Piaf, the iconic French chanteuse. I knew immediately that she would be nominated for best actress and am thrilled that she won. No one else came even close to her performance - so authentic, gut wrenching and strangely joyous all at once.

The film made me weep with sadness and with joy. Edith and Marion - two great French artists. Marion will no doubt go on to do more great films. I can’t wait to see them.

Also, to all our French friends posting here, I think only two or three commenters have not been favorable to Marion’s success at the Oscars. The overwhelming majority here recognize her classic talent and praise her work. She is a French treasure…be good to her when she is back home!

The best actress ! She is french , she is french , she is french nananereuh ^^ She is 32 years old and i hope that she oubliere no that she is French FOREVER , not american !!!

Merci à elle , un journal disait recemment aux usa que la culture française était morte et bien toc , de quoi les remettre à leur place !

I thought she was absolutely amazing. I’m thrilled that she won. Her acting was outstanding in La Vie en Rose. It was like seeing the real Edith Piaf come back to life. I only know her by music and small videos, so to see her life come back again through Marion Cotillard was breathtaking. I felt like I never even missed a thing about her. She was truly deserving for that Oscar. The Academy got it right this year; all the winners got what they deserved.

I just love her…

I just love her…

its about time the oscars got it right this time..way to go marion
