Marion Cotillard @ Oscars 2008

Modern mermaid Marion Cotillard (in Jean Paul Gaultier) arrives at the 2008 Oscars held at the Kodak Theatre on Sunday in Hollywood.

Cotillard, 32, picked up Best Actress in a Leading Role for her work in La Vie En Rose.

She broke down in years the moment her name was announced. Marion managed to get this out before walking offstage: “Thank you life! Thank you love! It is true there are some angels in this city. Thank you! Thank you so much!”

Jewels by Chopard, clutch by Daniel Swarovski.

She was so amazing in that movie — not just the transformation of having to play someone over 25 years of their life, or for singing, but for the emotion and facial expressions that conveyed so much.
Everyone made a big deal out of Angelina Jolie’s scream when Daniel Pearl died in A Mighty Heart, but Marion Cotillard’s reaction to her lover dying was gut-wrenching.

the fool who said it should be an award for a whole career instead of just one movie doesn’t even understand what the award is for! But if you want to see another movie she’s in, in English, rent A Good Year with Russell Crowe. She’s funny and COMPLETELY different, and you will see how talented this lovely lady is.

Her speech left me sobbing with joy. She is so genuine and natural and endearing.

shiela @ 02/24/2008 at 10:39 pm Booooooooooooooooo. A brilliant actress? at what age 24 or 25? Good grief. How many movies has she made? anyone? I would of been happy if any of the other women won. Laura Linney should of gotten it…she has made so many good movies. Jennifer Hudson has a lot of comments on here under her name that apply here regarding this award last year going to her…another brillant actress?geeeez

——-

Just because you are closed in your americanizerd world and don’t are accostuùed to other culkture doesn’t means that Marion is not brilliant.

She is actually an accomplished European movie star who manages to speak several languages. The daughter of a French actress and French director who has several foreign movies under her belt.

The fact that she could so convincely translate the emotions of one of the biggest international star of the late century, one of the caliber of the Maurice Chevalier, Charles Aznavour, Sinatra for the Americans, is telling.

She deserves it more than any other actrices out there. Like foreigner press said, she was so convincing that they thought that it was made up of a documentary with the real edith Piaff while it was Marion who did it all !

Once again, bravo Marion ! You deserve it !

she was so beautiful and truly amazed…loved it
made me remember jennifer hudosn fake emotions last year..which was hideous.

stunning and sweet!

Congratulations to Miss Cotillard! A stunning performance. I had never heard of her before I saw La Vie En Rose, and didn’t know until later that she was actually young and beautiful! Congrats to the makeup people on the film who also won an Oscar…amazing work!

I hope we non- Europeans will have the pleasure of seeing much more of Marion in the future.

Bravo Marion !
La France t’aime pour ce que tu viens de recevoir !
Et tu le mérites amplement!
Décidément ce film c’est vraiment le film de ta vie…
Congratulations :)

I didn’t see her film yet, but i’m going to see it, i am sure he is very very amazing

But i love every films where she were (L)

Marion, t’es la meilleure ON T’AIIIIIIIME <3

Attention French fans:
Not all of us Americans live in an “Americanized” world. Note that the majority of posters who live in the US really love Marion Cotillard as well. And some of us knew who she was before “La Vie En Rose”!

Sheila: I suggest you head over to Netflix or your local video store and check out some of Ms. Cotillard’s work (I suggest “Pretty Things” where she plays twins or “Love Me If You Dare” - better than ANY American romantic comedy). Hopefully, Sheila, becoming more educated about who you are criticizing will make you eat your words!

Hi
great

you can see her dress by Gaultier, her clutch by Svarowski on the website http://www.fashions-addict.com

enjoy

CONGRATULATIONS MARION @ 02/25/2008 at 3:12 pm

“She is the third French actress to win an Academy Award for Best Actress. Her predecessors are Claudette Colbert and Simone Signoret. She is the first Best Actress winner in a non-English language performance since Sophia Loren’s win in 1961 for her performance in Two Women. She is also the first and so far only winner of an Academy Award for a performance in the French language.” (WIKIPEDIA).

I WISH YOU A BRILLIANT FUTURE.

justa mia @ 02/25/2008 at 3:17 pm

I saw La Vie en Rose when it first played here in the US and was knocked out by Marion’s portrayal of the fabulous and tragic Edith Piaf, the iconic French chanteuse. I knew immediately that she would be nominated for best actress and am thrilled that she won. No one else came even close to her performance - so authentic, gut wrenching and strangely joyous all at once.

The film made me weep with sadness and with joy. Edith and Marion - two great French artists. Marion will no doubt go on to do more great films. I can’t wait to see them.

Also, to all our French friends posting here, I think only two or three commenters have not been favorable to Marion’s success at the Oscars. The overwhelming majority here recognize her classic talent and praise her work. She is a French treasure…be good to her when she is back home!

The best actress ! She is french , she is french , she is french nananereuh ^^ She is 32 years old and i hope that she oubliere no that she is French FOREVER , not american !!!

Merci à elle , un journal disait recemment aux usa que la culture française était morte et bien toc , de quoi les remettre à leur place !

I thought she was absolutely amazing. I’m thrilled that she won. Her acting was outstanding in La Vie en Rose. It was like seeing the real Edith Piaf come back to life. I only know her by music and small videos, so to see her life come back again through Marion Cotillard was breathtaking. I felt like I never even missed a thing about her. She was truly deserving for that Oscar. The Academy got it right this year; all the winners got what they deserved.

I just love her…

I just love her…

its about time the oscars got it right this time..way to go marion
