Marion Cotillard @ Oscars 2008
Modern mermaid Marion Cotillard (in Jean Paul Gaultier) arrives at the 2008 Oscars held at the Kodak Theatre on Sunday in Hollywood.
Cotillard, 32, picked up Best Actress in a Leading Role for her work in La Vie En Rose.
She broke down in years the moment her name was announced. Marion managed to get this out before walking offstage: “Thank you life! Thank you love! It is true there are some angels in this city. Thank you! Thank you so much!”

Attention French fans:
Not all of us Americans live in an “Americanized” world. Note that the majority of posters who live in the US really love Marion Cotillard as well. And some of us knew who she was before “La Vie En Rose”!
Sheila: I suggest you head over to Netflix or your local video store and check out some of Ms. Cotillard’s work (I suggest “Pretty Things” where she plays twins or “Love Me If You Dare” - better than ANY American romantic comedy). Hopefully, Sheila, becoming more educated about who you are criticizing will make you eat your words!
Hi
great
you can see her dress by Gaultier, her clutch by Svarowski on the website http://www.fashions-addict.com
enjoy
“She is the third French actress to win an Academy Award for Best Actress. Her predecessors are Claudette Colbert and Simone Signoret. She is the first Best Actress winner in a non-English language performance since Sophia Loren’s win in 1961 for her performance in Two Women. She is also the first and so far only winner of an Academy Award for a performance in the French language.” (WIKIPEDIA).
I WISH YOU A BRILLIANT FUTURE.
I saw La Vie en Rose when it first played here in the US and was knocked out by Marion’s portrayal of the fabulous and tragic Edith Piaf, the iconic French chanteuse. I knew immediately that she would be nominated for best actress and am thrilled that she won. No one else came even close to her performance - so authentic, gut wrenching and strangely joyous all at once.
The film made me weep with sadness and with joy. Edith and Marion - two great French artists. Marion will no doubt go on to do more great films. I can’t wait to see them.
Also, to all our French friends posting here, I think only two or three commenters have not been favorable to Marion’s success at the Oscars. The overwhelming majority here recognize her classic talent and praise her work. She is a French treasure…be good to her when she is back home!
The best actress ! She is french , she is french , she is french nananereuh ^^ She is 32 years old and i hope that she oubliere no that she is French FOREVER , not american !!!
Merci à elle , un journal disait recemment aux usa que la culture française était morte et bien toc , de quoi les remettre à leur place !
I thought she was absolutely amazing. I’m thrilled that she won. Her acting was outstanding in La Vie en Rose. It was like seeing the real Edith Piaf come back to life. I only know her by music and small videos, so to see her life come back again through Marion Cotillard was breathtaking. I felt like I never even missed a thing about her. She was truly deserving for that Oscar. The Academy got it right this year; all the winners got what they deserved.
I just love her…
