Tilda Swinton @ Oscars 2008

Tilda Swinton (in Lanvin) arrives at the 2008 Oscars held at the Kodak Theatre on Sunday in Hollywood.

Tilda, 47, won Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her role in Michael Clayton. During her acceptance speech, she thanked costar George Clooney.

Swinton addressed Clooney, jokingly saying, “You know, [you have such a] seriousness and dedication to your art. Seeing you climb into that rubber bat suit from Batman & Robin–the one with the nipples–every morning under your costume, on the set off the set, hanging upside down at lunch. You rock, man. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

Watch Tilda’s acceptance speech here.

Tilda Swinton. Pretentious, talented, and very weird when it comes to fashion. So I’ll just stick with “Nice hair”.

I love Tilda Swinton. Being unconventional looking doens’t equal ugly. And her acceptance is one more reason she ******* rocks.

Congrats on her Oscar win!

Sheesh!!! This woman is eternally found wanting in style stakes. She does look like David Bowie.

dicaprio lovaah @ 02/24/2008 at 10:31 pm

she was really funny with that speach about George Clooney ;D .. She deserved that oscar, she’s a great actress :)!

i loved her in the narnia movie!!!!!!

UNreal. She said before the ceremony that she had never even watched the Oscars on T.V. EVER! this award, and the best actress award are bad.

Is that a dude?

she scares me.

she scares the bejeebees outta me. Seriously, she started creeping me out from since Constantine.

I guess she really is a great actress.

Tilda rocks. That acceptance speech was so her. One of her best movies ever, Orlando. Sublime.

And some of the folks had the nerve to talk about how bad Jennifer Hudson looked? Humpf. Compared to this cyborg-looking freak, and that monstrosity of a dress she was wearing, Jenny looked like a freakin’ goddess !! Well, at least she looked like a human, and a woman.

Tilda Swinton could freeze your heart, she had such a cold, hard stare when she played the Ice Queen in Narnia. She deserves that win. She’s not typical Hollywood, and that’s what makes her so appealing.

There’s a dearth of good acting talent in Hollywood, but Tilda Swinton, and the rest (such a small group unfortunately) who excel in their craft are what keep Hollywood afloat. Kudos to her.

Hey BrangelinaFan #27 you have no right calling yourself a brangelina fan especially an Angelina fan. You say you look up to Angelina who would not speak and judge about someone like that. YOu should be ashamed.

Who’s this man?

AWESOME…love seeing new people at these shows whose work deserves to be rewarded.

However, did anyone notice that ABC/Disney pulled their TV / Movie talent? The Rock? Miley Cyrus? I felt like I was previewing the next Dancing with Stars cast….

get a life. @ 02/25/2008 at 2:11 am

you guys are unreal. jesus, what ever happenned to if you have don’t have anything nice to say about someone say nothing at all.
it;s reading things like the comments on this page which make me feel like there is no hope for humanity. the serious ugliness in people’s hearts. and to think i wanted to read the comments b/c other people like me would be excited she won.

pixie-stix @ 02/25/2008 at 4:11 am

I’m so glad she won. Ever since Orlando, I knew it would happen some day. Damn fine talent, that’s Tilda.

I don’t care if people call her ugly, this woman is AMAZING!

#27, you’re a typical superficial Brangelina fan. “OH MY GOD, BRAD IZ SO HAWT AND ANGELINA IS BEAUTIFUL!”. When will you idiots realise that actresses like Swinton are the real deal and scánks like Jolie are just there to be media whóres, nothing more.

amazing actress, Im glad she won.

Ack! Her dress looked like a garbage bag! Sheesh!

she looks amazing and stylish
she isnt the next barbi- doll

An English actress who is a very talented actress who doesn’t get by on her looks alone. Three quarters of the actors and actresses in America are crap and rely too much on their looks and special effects. How shallow.

Dear Ella and Regina, I happen to be a Brangelina fan and still hate the way Tilda Swinton looked. What does one have to do with the other? I was commenting merely on my fashion sense versus hers. What, my username throws you off? Shall I continue to change it everytime I comment on this site to suit the thread? I don’t see anyone else doing that. Also, many of the same folks criticizing me for criticizing Swinton had the absolute nerve to go off on Jennifer Hudson and that monstrosity she wore by making it way more personal — calling her a “fat cow,” “black fat and ugly,” ect. All that I take personal umbrage with. So why are you not attacking them? Double standard? I’m sure. Double standards as usual with you white folks, or those who are not minorities. But you know what? Go ahead and continue with your misguided and double standard tendencies of gripes and bitchin’ to no avail cause a change is gonna come. A “Change” is gonna come. ;-)

ahhhhhh!!!
the scarriest thing I saw totday….

Change doesn't come overnight @ 02/25/2008 at 10:22 am

#29 Ella…You say that Angelina would not speak or judge anyone like her……You need to sit back and not take offense quite so quickly. It hasn’t been all that long since Angelina has made the transition from being the woman she Was into the woman she is Now with her family…and those of us who see the change are very happy. The term cyborg-looking freak was tacky but not that bad compared to todays language. People on here keep saying..if you don’t have something nice to say then don’t say anything at all.!! This isn’t a place like that. It’s a place for us ALL to express our opinions, good or bad. If you don’t like it..don’t come here.

She is phenomenally talented and, like a handful of others in Hollywood, isn’t acting for the celebrity that comes along with the job. Didn’t love the dress, her hair is amazing and I am in awe of someone who is confident enough to show up at the Oscars without a stitch of make up on.

SofiaRocket @ 02/25/2008 at 10:39 am

She looks great for a 47-year old woman without makeup. Her looks are very original - once you’ve seen her, you’ll never forget her. great individuality.

girladvenger @ 02/25/2008 at 11:21 am

I love this woman, what a great attitude…just her and not a character for the fans. Great strength of character, I love that about her…and she treated Clooney as a better equal to prank him at the Oscars.

That alone made my day….Go Tilda.

p.s. No she’s not a lesbian, just British.

Fashionfan @ 02/25/2008 at 2:36 pm

YOU PEOPLE DON’T GET FASHION!

And beyond that…because she has a severe hair cut and a serious androgyny thing going on…Oh…geez…she MUST be a lesbian!

Go to netflix and see Orlando or any of the Derek Jarman films she has been in.

It’s like an insult to say that she is “beautiful” in an “unconventional” way…SUCH B.S.

She is beautiful because she IS beautiful. One of THE most talented actors…period…

The part that makes me laugh the most…most of the people in middle america who are “afraid” of her or her look…will NEVER be able to afford…let alone FIT into a dress that she wears….LET ALONE the fact that they will NEVER have clothing MADE for them as it is for her! Understand that she is a muse for designers Viktor and Rolf….which means…ULTIMATELY what she wears for them will trickle down to all of the chain stores in outfits inspired by what was worn by this “scary…cold…ugly…severe…weird….might be a lesbian” woman.

She is not a lesbian. She has two men.

Yes she does seem to have an unusual love life (rearing children with 1 man and ‘travelling’ with another, so they say). But I think she is gorgeous. ever since I saw her play Gabriel in Constantine I thought “my god that’s Stunning”. I’m glad she won the Oscar.

i liked her on the chronicles of narnia.
she is not the beautifulest woman in the world, but she has charisma.

She would make a really really hot Hermes or Apollo

An original sense of style, an original attitude, an original speech. There is nothing ‘contrived’ about this woman, unlike the rest of ‘Blond Hollywood’, I might add, who look like carbon copies of each other.

She should be appreciated and admired for her sheer originality and her raw, powerhouse talent.

Some people who have so freely dismissed her by their comments should really try not following the goat herd mentality and value an individual’s innate character.

A quality that they seem to be lacking and like ‘HOW!!!!!’

Shame with the comments here, it reiterates the media manipulation most people are predipositioned now to the plastic/tannned/faked beauty, that as a female, we should be this perfection that is deemed attractive….This is not Tildas beauty. Tilda is royal, stunning, an artist, has wicked sense of humour, eccentric, INTELLIGENT and serene. I am so GLAD a woman like this is around.

Derek Jarman would be proud!
