Viggo is a great actor. I’m sure the beard is for some movie role or either that he rushed out of the house. Who cares, he’s still great.
He is handsome, an awesome actor and awesome artist.
He’s dressed very classic and gorgeous.
He is making the Cormac McCarthy ” The Road” and he needs the to look like a survior of the end of the world. He was playing a Russian mobster who is also something else, so the dual role was very exacting. It was alot harder to portray than George Clooneys role.
By the accounts of Russians, his accent and mannerisms are dead on. He was amazing in the role, but someone who screams in posts probably can’t understand subtlety. In any other year, he would have won, but Daniel Day-Lewis is a phenomenal actor.
Viggo is so talented, and watching his face and eyes in a movie like this where so much is said without speaking, you need some intelligence to understand it. He is getting better all the time.
I agree Viggo is incredibly talented. I heard the same, that his accent in Eastern Promises was dead on. Plus it was much of his research that influenced many revisions to the script.
The beard is surely for a role. I’m just wondering who the girl is, she was sitting next to him inside. I thought for sure he would have brought his son…

Viggo is filming amovie in New Mexico called Appaloosa, which is why he has the beard. I didn’t think he’d win the Oscar for this performance, although it was brilliant. He is one of the finest actors working right now. He is unique, intelligent and extremely diverse. He is one of the few people in movies who I would love to meet, because there is nothing artificial about this man. He is a real man and stunning to look at.

Appaloosa is a western that was directed by Ed Harris. It wrapped awhile ago. Vigo’s beard may or may not be from the film. But I do suspect
that his long waste coat was a influence from having worked on the film in that period. The man has class, taste, style all on top of real talent.
By the way his jacket is dark, dark green. Look close. But over all it
reads as black. Subtle & sexy.
According to photo captions in news outlets , the (very pretty) girl is his niece Sydney. Don’t know if she is daughter of a brother or sister but she has the same chin as Viggo! What a cool uncle.
The full grey-toned beard and the long hair are for the film “The Road” (also with Charlize Theron and Robert Duvall), whose filming will begin tomorrow, 02/27. Too bad that beard hides so much of him :(
Viggo deserved this nomination so much, although it is a pity that the film was ignored. Viggo is a brilliant actor, and only he could nail that part!
If it wouldn’t been for Daniel Day-Lewis, and the fact that Viggo once declined an invitation to join the Academy as a full member, I guess he would have won. The faces of the other non-winers froze when Daniel was announced, but Viggo’s lighted up.
Viggo’s next film that will come to the screen should be “Good”, a blond haired, clean shaven, bespectacled German professor. I wonder how he dealt with that language.
