Angelina Jolie: We Have a Moral Obligation to Help Iraqi Refugees
We have finally reached a point where humanitarian assistance, from us and others, can have an impact.
UNHCR goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie visited Iraq earlier this month and penned her experience for The Washington Post.
Here are some excerpts from Angie’s excellent opinion piece: “During my trip I also met with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, who has announced the creation of a new committee to oversee issues related to internally displaced people, and a pledge of $40 million to support the effort.
“My visit left me even more deeply convinced that we not only have a moral obligation to help displaced Iraqi families, but also a serious, long-term, national security interest in ending this crisis.
“Today’s humanitarian crisis in Iraq — and the potential consequences for our national security — are great. Can the United States afford to gamble that 4 million or more poor and displaced people, in the heart of Middle East, won’t explode in violent desperation, sending the whole region into further disorder?”

Thanks for the new post JJ! Happy afternoon to everyone.
Thanks Jared. You are the best.
how can you not love her!
Long overdue..thanks so much JJ.
Very lovely afternoon JPfans!
Thank YOU, guli.
I like the article. You can tell she speaks from the heart
new thread! this angelina jolie’s got everything! she writes wonderful!
I truly admire this woman. Deus lhe abencoe e guarde!!!
She needs to butt out of this stuff before she causes some really big problems. She should not be allowed to involve herself in matters as sensitive as these are. She is overstepping boundries.
….And don’t tell me it’s her “moral obligation”. She could be endangering lives worse then they already are.
blah blah blah. stfu!
Angie is my girl!
Angie truly understand what is important in life and she continues to make me proud to be her fan.
Thanks for the new thread Jared!
Angelina, no one can “touch” you with their negativity because you are simply an amazing, kind and beyond compare!!! Love u so much!
Angelina Jolie is to be admired for her dedication and continuous desire to help those in need.
os, we should all be interested in things that happen not only in the US but abroad.
It is easy to talk about endangering lives but maybe you can be specific in how exactly you feel she is doing it. Others have also said the same things and whether she speaks out against it or not, it will not change the facts.
Go Angie!
Angie is the greatest of all.
What a great article. This is one of the reason we should not leave Iraq until IRaq is stable enough to achieve stability and prosperity for their own people .
She needs to make sure she doesn’t stir the pot!!! Things might not work out the way she thinks they will or wants them to.
Awesome!
I guess she differs with Obama on pulling out of Iraq. I underestimated her… she’s got quite some sense after all!
LOVE Angie’s article…concise, clear, and to the point!!!

Thank you, Jared! I just love Angelina. I’m so proud to be her fan!
Fug,
What’s the f uck up my man?…still swallowing those bitter pills I see…you gotta post more of that crazy s hit I rarely understand but seems funny as h ell…you know, break up the blahs…
She’s so beautiful. Great article!
#17,
She can go wherever she wants spreading goodwill and helping out. That’s fine. But she shouldn’t step into overly sensitive matters like these. Things that could potentially involve the military, etc.
However, since you mentioned the U.S.A…..Maybe she SHOULD spend a little more time reaching out to those who need help in this country instead of consorting with those tainted by the enemy.
This is just wonderful. Angie you are unbelievable, I have so much respect for this lady.
Right now no one comes close to being compared with Angelina.
http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20180968,00.html
hahaha ok, back to Angie - What an awesome article!!! Wooohooo!
God bless Angelina and her work with the UNHCR!!!
This is a great article. She’s just so involved in what she does, not by name only like some others.
America broke Iraq. America is obliged to fix it or else the soldiers will return without honor and dignity.
JMHO
os @ 02/28/2008 at 2:45 pm
there are bajillion people readhing out to people in the US.
It’s not like she would be appreciated better by naysayers like you if she did.
She marches to her own tune. She’s not some kid. she’s 31 years too old to follow someone else rules.
I’m hoping for a new book.
OS,
It is people like you that are causing Ameirca so much pain and money in Iraq.
Someone has to tell it like it is. If not this country goes under. This is the wrong war and taking all of our troops out is not a good idea.
I agree with some of the troops coming home but what about the country, people and lives that will be destroy if we leave all together.
Pulling every soldier will come back and hunt us in the future.
Am bringing my post over from the previous thread.
( I also posted a comment on the wapo site, using the opportunity to blast those idiots who apparently failed to realize that Angie isnt referring to “staying in Iraq” as in a military, open-ended stay. She is speaking strictly about Iraqis staying in Iraq instead of fleeing and becoming refugees in other countries, thereby posing a longterm, international crisis somewhere own the road.

Hey BAMPZS+1 peeps! (I better get used to just saying ‘Jolie-Pitt peeps’ or ‘J-P peeps’, huh? :) :) :) :)
Have been away for a few weeks now (long story) and cant believe how much has happened in J-P world since then!!!! Ye Gads! I missed you people!
AM SO HAPPY FOR MY FAVOURITE INTERNATIONAL FAMILY!!!
And now to see this link to this article by Angie (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/27/AR2008022702217_pf.html)
- (thanks Lady G and MMS) its fantastic! now lets see if all these bottomfeeding rags and blogs will pick this up.
In the meantime, here’s an exercise for all us fans: lets keep a running tally of all the sites on which we see this article by Angie posted or referenced. In addition, lets each of us post the link on any other site that we visit if we dont see it posted.
If sh*theads are going to mouth off lying crap about this family, lets force-feed them some truths and some REAL Jolie-Pitt news!
BTW, its good to be back and to read the usual good stuff from great JP fans!
And HAPPY BIRTHDAY Anustin!
oh my God she’s so wonderful.Thank you for being such a wonderful inspiration.Angie!!!!
Iraq- Yes, another one of America’s sins.
We owe it to the people of that country to do our best to help fix
things before we pull out.
sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo stupid~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is
OS,
Who the hell do you think you are. Right now you are over stepping your boundaries.
Her comments must have been approved by the UNHCR and people like you do not matter because at the end of the day she does the walk and she should and she is doing the talk.
So before you start complaining please walk the walk then maybe you’ll be allowed to talk.
Right now your opinion is not needed and does not matter when it comes to sensitive and complicated matter such as THE UNHCR.
I was just about to comment on the last thread. LOL. Lady & Tabitha thanks for posting this before JJ made it into a new thread ;)
Well done Angelina.
Wait for it guys…it will come..actually I see it has started already, people feel threatened that she has stepped out of her role as actor/entertainer and that she’s taken an interest in things other than tanning, shopping and walking the red carpet of every party in Hollywood.
She has brought this issue to the forefront and her words ring true..would families and individuals displaced…be it.. without a home and foreseeable prospects if it wasn’t for this war?
The inevitable will happen her words will get twisted and misconstrued.
Thanks, Jared!
Once again - we see some impressive and articulate writing from Angie. I just wish the Washington Post had left that stupid “actor” descriptor off her by-line!
I’VE NOTICED SOMETHING. THE MORE HATERS HATE ON THIS FAMILY THE MORE BLESSINGS FROM ABOVE THEY GET.

Dont get too excited yet, you little redneck. Angie isnt being partisan here. She is speaking strictly about Iraqis staying and refugees returning to their homeland - not about the US military staying for 10,000 more years as john mccain said.
She’s a HUMANITARIAN not a POLITICIAN as she is often at pains to point out to her detractors. Like you.

Angelina Jolie Writes About Trip to Iraq
Thursday February 28, 2008
Angelina Jolie visits the Green Zone in Baghdad, Iraq Feb. 7.
REUTERS/James Deady/U. S. Department of Defense/HO /Landov
Angelina Jolie has penned an op-ed titled “Staying to Help in Iraq” for the Washington Post, arguing for an increase in the “financial and material assistance” going to Iraq.
“My visit [to Iraq] left me even more deeply convinced that we not only have a moral obligation to help displaced Iraqi families, but also a serious, long-term, national security interest in ending this crisis,” she wrote.
“Today’s humanitarian crisis in Iraq — and the potential consequences for our national security — are great. Can the United States afford to gamble that 4 million or more poor and displaced people, in the heart of Middle East, won’t explode in violent desperation, sending the whole region into further disorder?”
A pregnant Jolie joined U.S. Military in central Baghdad’s heavily-fortified Green Zone on earlier this month.
She is not stating that the US should stay in Iraq as the ocupation power. She is stating that is a moral obligation of the US to help the 4 million Iraqui refugees to go safetly to their homes.
While I do appreciate her optimistic and caring view point, she is a bit naive to the actual process. She doesn’t exactly explain how all these good deeds are supposed to get done. She throws out a monetary amount but doesn’t really get into where it should come from exactly (us tax-payers I guess) or the specific allocation of it. It’s very easy to talk about the big perfect picture of what needs to be accomplished. This is what she has done in her article. It’s the details of how it’s supposed to get done and by whom that she doesn’t seem to address. She does not spend enough of her time in the very place she wants to fix. If she wants these wonderful things to happen, she needs to do more then pay two day visits every six months. She talks the talk, she needs to walk the walk. There are many people that devote their time, money …..there very lives to these missions. I take what they say a bit more seriously. They deserve the attention quite a bit more.
support Angie by posting comment on the washingpost comment section.
If the Iraqi people want the US troops out of THEIR country then the US should leave. Who gives a **** what an over hyped celebrity like Angelina fish lips thinks?

Thank You JJ
Thanks Jared for creating this new thread. And thanks to Lady G, Tabitha & MAMS for posting it on the last thread. It’s a great read and gives me a better perspective on the Iraqi refugee crisis.
Gotta take off for a meeting at the office. Hope you guys have a great day!! :)
#56….THANK YOU. I was just about to say, anyone can sit an point and talk about the problems. Someone needs to tell her to be part of the SOLUTION NOT the PROBLEM…she just talks and talk but offers ZERO ideas. Be aware, be aware yah okay so then what. She was once asked “what can people to to help” and she said “become aware”…WHAT. Tell people where to send money or food or whatever but..geesh.
Angelina’s article reads like she wants the troops to stay but for a new and different mission is my understanding of views and this particular mission.
Considering the US Military history, there will always be troops indefinitely in the Middle East region and especially Iraq…just like Germany, South Korea, Panama, Japan, etc…whereever we fought or provide peace keeping we remain many years after the act.
I believe Obama is or will be advised of this and if elected would probably elect to lessen the troop force and coordinate with allies and change the mission from war to peace-keeping which is not what it is at this moment…I’m optimistic it could be done if clarified for all of the world to know and assist with this kind of effort needed.
Angelina is a great role model. More power to her family, humanitarian and professional life.
I think it is perfectly fine to have an opinion on worldly things without it being in your present job description. In fact, I find it quite healthy to have an opinion and be willing to share. Does that mean you have to know the exact road map to get there - no, heck even our politicians squabble daily over that but sharing thoughts and opinions and discussing that is healthy for society. It is better than just parroting what others say over and over. Some will agree, some won’t but no one should have to be “quiet”. It’s funny that so many speak out against “common people” not having a voice in other countries but then we try to muffle our own - common and uncommon. Do we expect the people in Cuba to know how and where all the funds will be generated to get them to their dreams? no we don’t but we still respect their points of view? Why are we even expecting Angelina to have a financial road map - I think it is an unrealistic standard to hold people up to. She wrote an opinion like so many others. I am glad she actually speaks on things other than “what I’m wearing” and “what clubs are hot”. That is fine too for what is worth but lets not expect everyone to live the life we want them to live and just let them live the lives that they have for themselves without picking it apart. Especially when we would not want our opinions, dreams, hopes, goals to be picked apart.
Thanks JJ.
I hope, through Angies work with UNHCR, that people in need , displaced for the war, will get the atention deserved.
She is so amazing.
Why doesn’t the Washington Post create a celebrity gossip section instead of pandering to this bull*******?

CONGRATULATIONS SASHA…only 50 posts in to a jolie thread and YOU bring up Aniston. Why don’t you go to an Aniston board to discuss her. What do you have an obsession with her or something.
She is not stating that the US should stay in Iraq as the ocupation power. She is stating that is a moral obligation of the US to help the 4 million Iraqui refugees to go safetly to their homes.
******
Uh no honey… Jolie states that she talked to the US troops and they want to be part of a “humanitarian” mission to rebuild Iraq..you know after they decimated and flattened it with their bombs. But the b.s. is that you don’t need soldiers and tanks to rebuild a country. …that’s called occupation.
This is always the rift between optimistic liberals and insular conservatives. It is also the flaw with many celebrities who involve themselves in international politics. (Bono comes to mind). It is well to say that something should be done–but what, by whom, who organizes it, how much does it cost and who pays for it? How long does it last? Does a country that has been known to give money and safety to the same terrorists who bombed the World Trade Centre deserve to have American tax dollars keeping their people out of poverty and if so, for how long? These are tough questions that Jolie doesn’t really explore.
I am not criticizing Ms. Jolie or her article–she is a generous and compassionate person whose immediate reaction is the desire to help those who are in need. I don’t blame her or think she is wrong, but merely point out that it is not a simple black and white issue.
You have to be registered to leave a comment on the Washington Post site. I’ll register a little later this afternoon.
She had NO business sticking her nose in business she doesn’t understand and SHE ESPECIALLY SHOULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS PREGNANT. She is NOT thinking right. Her elevator does not go all the way to the top. What mother would DELIBERATELY put their fetus/child in CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER…refugess or NO refugees. A good mother will ALWAYS put her child’s safety ahead of anything.
One of these celebrities who think that now they are rich and popular, they are also smart. She is a joke. For once, if you really believe what you preach then run for president since you think you can fix everything that is wrong in this world.
The Middle East is like quicksand. Once you get in you NEVER get out. That being said you can avoid making another mistake by getting into another conflict with another MiddleEastern nation and help keep the refugee situation under control. The UNHCR will help with that.
The article is balanced. It’s her opinion. There’s no right or wrong.

maybe she should spend time in our country speaking to the mothers, fathers, wives, children and siblings of the soldiers we have lost over there? she talks of stepping up our financial involvement, i say put her money where her mouth is. she is given too much importance- she needs to raise her children before they turn out to be like the old bat **** crazy Angie she was and still is deep down inside.

***********************************************
No sweetheart, it is YOU who dont understand the crux of the matter.
And, dearheart, the only people who “deserve the attention” as you so tellingly state in your final sentence, are THE CITIZENS OF IRAQ who have been displaced by this war in which America plays such a starring role - not anyone else.
The only attention-seeker here is YOU, who neither walk the walk nor talk the talk (i dont recall reading one of your articles on the matter, following your visit there, do you?)
Why should Angie take it upon herself to draft and execute the plan that is going to accomplish the mammoth task of indemnification of the Iraqi people, as you seem to be suggesting that she does, a la your statement: “She doesn’t exactly explain how all these good deeds are supposed to get done/It’s the details of how it’s supposed to get done and by whom that she doesn’t seem to address.”
Why should she be called on BY YOU (who are you, again?) to detail how the reconstruction work should be done?
Once again, just for you, my dear, here’s what Angie does with and for the UNHCR: she is a VOLUNTEER with the UNHCR, having been ASKED by them to HELP THEM with the GLOBAL task of drawing attention to HUMANITARIAN crises AROUND THE WORLD so that those of us who are closeted in our safe little world of plenty, are made aware of the dangers of the ever-increasing millions of disconted, displaced, homeless, hungry and increasingly angry peoples around the world, so that we can offer a little of our own money to HELP the UN carry out its task of helping these people so that the world doesnt descend into chaos.
Got it yet?

JEN, IS THAT YOU?
I’m sooooo proud to be her fan.
Simple amazing human!
You’re the best Angelina.
The same people who express their opinions on blogs think she should not have a right to express hers? I don’t get it
MyEyeisonu,
You mention Cuba….my mother is from Cuba. My mother came to this country after Castro took over….after he and his government stripped her and her family of all their educational degrees, wordly goods, sentimental items, and basic necessities like food and shelter. However, he was not able to take their pride and their will to have control over their own actions. She receieved no assistance from anyone not that she would have accepted it if she had. She couldn’t speak English and she had less then what would equal three American dollars when she arrived. She took responsibilty for herself and didn’t wait for others to give her handouts. She made no excuses and expected none in return. She became a medical doctor and has helped many people with all aspects of their lives. She is just one of many people in my family of “displaced”, “trampled on”, “impoverished”, etc etc that picked themselves up and made sure that they never had to take from others to survive. They didn’t wait to get helped. They helped themselves.
Because of the examples I have seen my entire life of people who not only say but do, I am less likely to be impressed by people who just “say” without the “do”. Like I said, kudos to Angelina but she accepted an important job. She wants to be considered credible and so she should come up with real solutions instead of just happy endings.
After reading some comments after mine, I would like to add that I at least admire Jolie for doing something important with her life, rather than sitting around getting arrested for DUI and living a life of basic vanity and selfishness.
Moreover, she is a representative of the UN and therefore has been ASKED to “stick her nose” in international issues to give them more prominance (since this is a country whose population reads more ‘Just Jared’ and ‘Tmz’ than the Washing Post).
Plus, who made the tabloids and unwashed masses the “baby police”?? I find that utterly obnoxious!
Yeah and how about Angelina eating something for her own fetus?
Great new thread–Angie is making a difference: opening eyes, getting things done. I don’t know how she handles it all, but we’re behind her all the way. Thanks, Jared, for this tnew thread!
“Once again, just for you, my dear, here’s what Angie does with and for the UNHCR: she is a VOLUNTEER with the UNHCR, having been ASKED by them to HELP THEM with the GLOBAL task of drawing attention to HUMANITARIAN crises AROUND THE WORLD so that those of us who are closeted in our safe little world of plenty, are made aware of the dangers of the ever-increasing millions of disconted, displaced, homeless, hungry and increasingly angry peoples around the world, so that we can offer a little of our own money to HELP the UN carry out its task of helping these people so that the world doesnt descend into chaos.”

Shouldn’t you actually HAVE morals to be telling people they should feel morally obligated to something. Sorry but “morallity” is the LAST word this woman should bring into discussion if she expects anyone to take her seriously. jolie and morals is an oxymoron.
great article.
TOO bad the UNHCR has to rely on CELEBRITY IDIOTS to promote their own causes. I guess the public can’t take an INTELLECTUAL or actual AID WORKER speaking out. TOO BORING eh?
Thank You Jared!!!!

Great Job Angie!!!

Angie is an ambassador not a UNHCR administrator. I am sure the US government and the UN would talk about the details which may not yet be ready for public consumption.
Thank you so much JJ for the new thread. It’s a great article from my favorite celeb. Very informative. Way to go Angelina Jolie! You are an inspiration to all women. Good Luck and God Bless you and Brad on the new addition to your family.
“…And when I asked the troops if they wanted to go home as soon as possible, they said that they miss home but feel invested in Iraq. They have lost many friends and want to be a part of the humanitarian progress they now feel is possible.”
For all those who have families in Iraq, for those who have lost a family member, we cannot imagine what you are going through, but don’t please don’t hate on Angelina for what she received as answers from the troops themselves
…and for those who want the $million to go to U.S., clearly there is no comparison to what the poorest in the U.S. is experiencing as opposed to Iraq and other refugees around the world.
SEE NO BORDERS PEOPLE. This is our world. We are all citizens of this world we live in. Let’s look at the much bigger picture!
WAY TO GO ANGIE!!! YOU MAKE US SO PROUD TO BE YOUR FANS!
She brings awareness. And as a fan, that’s what I want her to do. She is not a politician, and she reminds us that she is not a politician. She brings awareness. When there is awareness, there is discussion. When there is discussion, there is ideas. Then those ideas turn into action on individual level. And the individuals who elect the government officials in democratic countries like ours, speak their mind by voting a certain way and electing like minded officials who can help make the changes we want.

Angelina for PRESIDENT!!!!!!
My problem is that she tries to overstep her role. Ok her role is to bring awareness and not to set foreign policy or be a diplomat..she is a pr person for the UN. Why is she such a controllign btch?
sHE IS THE BEST
SIMPLY an amazing human being…NOTHING or NO ONE compares to her beautiful and caring soul.
Good day everyone!
eat steak, how did you get controlling ***** out of the article? If it was a man doing all she does would you say the same thing? stfu already!
Wow, this thread brought out a lot of heated discussion.
It will be another thread with 1000 posts before we know it!
It is so funny that all these naysayers have all these opinions and comments about Angelina, expecting her to provide solutions, yet they do not demand the same from the president and the other politicians who got us into the mess that is Iraq in the first place.
…”It seems to me that now is the moment to address the humanitarian side of this situation. Without the right support, we could miss an opportunity to do some of the good we always stated we intended to do”
is RIDICULOUS.
the U.S. never invaded, nor does it currently occupy, Iraq because of any intention to do “good” (OR rid Iraq of nuclear weapons, OR rid Iraq of Hussein, OR promote democracy in Iraq). The U.S. did it for greed (oil) and power (to control the oil and hence, have some control over the Middle East). No one cares–not the U.S. OR the current Iraqi goverment–about displaced Iraqi’s. This has been an issue for several years and she’s just now jumping on the bandwagon.
THANK YOU ANGELINA JOLIE!!!!!!!!!!!!….Angie did her job well, now even the trolls know about refugees and issues related to internally displaced people…tsik..tsk tsk…
Look Angie doesn’t need to find solution for anything, her job is to presents the problems and may be help put a little pressure to those in powers ( politicians, presidents, prime minister..etc..) to do something about it.
BIG thanks to JJ for new thread!
ARGGGHHHHH——————-a bit much I know.
But this is really getting on my nerves. It´s a good thing she does.(of course)
But please, for the love of god, just pick one profession- actress or ambassador.
It just gets on my nerves when “actors” want to tell other peole what to do- considering the fact that they HAVE the money to be generous.

Damned America has started this war!
Oooh another thread. This is cool. Angelina is just keeping it moving. She’s doing what she always has been doing. Good article.
US Military personnel have ‘DAY JOBS and SPECIALTIES’ when they aren’t at war…They are engineers, electricians, communication and cable installers, building contructors, and thousands of skills etc., apt and competent to put back and enhance what’s been destroyed…Some of the money being used currently for the war can be reallocated for the reconstruction and direct aid (food, medical, clothing, travel) to the displaced…It can be done.
I don’t think that she is overstepping her role.
How is she overstepping her role?
She is bringing AWARENESS.

I COMPLETELY AGREE.
As far as sticking her nose into other business. She IS doing her job. She is a Goodwill Ambassador, she is doing her job just like others - men, women (yep and even some of them pregnant) do everyday. I respect that
As far as how she protects her fetus. Lets care for all fetuses. I am sure there are many pregnant women over there now in the conditions the way they are. Do something to help them. Otherwise why “pretend” to care about Angelina’s fetus
Oh and the missing sentence above is “It´s good that she wants to help people.—–
I read your posts, you’re beeing RATIONAL, thing that most of the people here can be.

I completely agree with her view. You can’t just givce speaches about helping the ‘opressed’ people and making them free while all you do is destroy them. back up you words with action. Jolie rocks

Angelina Jolie has penned an op-ed article urging the United States to help Iraqi refugees who have been displaced by the war. In The Washington Post piece titled, “Staying to Help in Iraq,” the actress and goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees says American money and troops are key to addressing the humanitarian crisis. Jolie, 32, who recently visited the war-torn country, writes, “What we cannot afford, in my view, is to squander the progress that has been made. In fact, we should step up our financial and material assistance.”
Just to clarify, I am not saying everyone should be worried about pregnant women in Iraq, we all have our own causes. But, if you are going to post as if you are truly concerned about a fetus/child in Iraq, hey don’t be selective. Do something to help those fetuses/children/babies in Iraq and Afghanistan and the war zones.
Let’s not just use it as a way to criticize one person we don’t like. Be genuine.
Yeah it’s all about being rational and not trying to be a PSUEDO DIPLOMAT or get an EGO BoOST from meeting with heads of state.
Thank you for reading my posts. this is common sense and not bashing anyone.
Geez…don’t read the Wash Post comments. Some people have incredibly bad reading skills. Or else maybe I just missed the part where Angie said she supported the war and we should stay there forever more….
Clooney will never be as cool as Jolie.
I love Angie.
Angelina carried-out her role to the UNCHR…she visited and eyewitnessed, she made inquiries and interviewed soldiers and refugees, made assessment, summized, wrote, reported and had published this entire mission…JOB WELL DONE!
CMAR @ 02/28/2008 at 3:01 pm
Dont get too excited yet, you little redneck. Angie isnt being partisan here. She is speaking strictly about Iraqis staying and refugees returning to their homeland - not about the US military staying for 10,000 more years as john mccain said.
She’s a HUMANITARIAN not a POLITICIAN as she is often at pains to point out to her detractors. Like you.
Understandest what thou readest?
——————————————————————————–
CMAR, perhaps you don’t understand what you read. After all the article is entitled, “Staying to Help in Iraq” and she clearly comments “Today’s humanitarian crisis in Iraq — and the potential consequences for our national security — are great.” She also writes, “As for the question of whether the surge is working, I can only state what I witnessed: U.N. staff and those of non-governmental organizations seem to feel they have the right set of circumstances to attempt to scale up their programs. And when I asked the troops if they wanted to go home as soon as possible, they said that they miss home but feel invested in Iraq. They have lost many friends and want to be a part of the humanitarian progress they now feel is possible.”
I merely stated the obvious.. that she differs with Obama on whether America should withdraw from Iraq. Clearly she means to influence the politicians, “I would like to call on each of the presidential candidates and congressional leaders to announce a comprehensive refugee plan with a specific timeline and budget as part of their Iraq strategy.”
Go back to school and work on the comprehension part of your reading!!! Comprendes…. but then again, how could you? HA!
For the small minded and shallow people who would actually think Angie would be afraid to confront x, please remind them that this is a lady who has traveled to Iraq, Darfur, Sudan, Serra Leone, and other hell on earth places. X is not even a **** in comparsion to these and the other places she has gone. Angie and Brad have risen so far above their petty bullsh*t. That is why the don’t need to respond to everything that is printed and said about them. As Angie has said in the past, “Those people who know me, know what I am about.” And believe me it is not about Ted C. and the other jealous people who consistently try to bring her down. She met with the two highest ranking people in Iraq. How many people, ordinary people not those in the State Dept, etc., can say that? Angelina is not a dummy. She is intelligent, and thoughtful. And least we forget independent. Peace
SINCE WHEN IS SETTING FOREIGN POLICY AND SECURITY IN A REGION HER ROLE?
I find this woman more and more fascinating each day!
She is so darn interesting and so fearless.
How did she get to be this way?
There is nobody like her in all of Hollywood.
America should rebuild each inche they destroyed in Iraq, and place every family in a home without the UN help. They did not ask for UN aproval to invade.
Angelina is ashamed of her country governement and is trying to get help for the war refugees.
estelle @ 02/28/2008 at 3:46 pm THANK YOU ANGELINA JOLIE!!!!!!!!!!!!….Angie did her job well, now even the trolls know about refugees and issues related to internally displaced people…tsik..tsk tsk…
Look Angie doesn’t need to find solution for anything, her job is to presents the problems and may be help put a little pressure to those in powers ( politicians, presidents, prime minister..etc..) to do something about it.
*********
I like your style of attacking the trolls,
Yes, even trolls got educated about refugees.
Thanks to George Bush for creating this crisis. The US DID NOT have to invade and destroy Iraq. There was no need fo that.
This article is way over the head of Ted C and the people who use the word Bump for a pregnant belly
oh great, Angie can’t be what she wants to be?…if you are an actress you can’t be a humanitarian …I see.
so now if you are an attorney, you can’t run for president, or you are a doctor you can’t be a mother, or if you are a teacher you can’t become a mayor, or if you are an engineer you can’t coach little league… …..yeah..go tell that to your children trolls?…what century are you living in? so if your father is a coffin maker, you can’t be anything else but a coffin maker…..sad sad thought.
Francesca @ 02/28/2008 at 3:03 pm
_______________________________________
She is not talking about perfect picture if you actually read her piece. The UNHCR have not been able to have a presence in Iraq for a few years because the security of the field workers could not be guaranteed. For the first time in many years, they will be able to get in and actually be able to have assist the refugees. The $261m dollars she is talking about was even mentioned as being less than daily budget for the war. My undestanding of her piece is that if there is a scale back of the troops, there will be some that will stay behind mostly for humanitarian work and to maintain peace and not as an occupying force, the same thing that we have been asking for in Darfur.
You might not like her, but you have to admit that she is knowledgeable on the refugee issue and if being in a place for more a long period of time is a prerequisite to advocating an issue, then most people in the state department or even the president cannot make policies since they make short visits and get advice from people on the ground.
Her visit much to the chagrin of her detractors have yielded some concrete positive outcome, and it shows she was was working in tandem with the UNHCR. So at today, there is promise of protection for the agency workers, there is $40m being made available by the Iraqi prime minister and there will be a sense for the refugees that someone is actively working on their behalf and that they have not been forgotten- that is progress any which way you look at it.
It is also foolhardy to disregard what she is saying that if these refugee crisis is not sorted it could be a breeding ground for future terrorists, that is an undeniable fact.
Thanks Jared for this thread, this is the kind of debate that I would rather have, there is no doubt that neither the right nor the left will be happy with what she has to say and that tells me she is more right than they will want to accept. I was against the war, but whether you were for or against the war, it is irrefutable that we need to clean up the mess that we created.
America is destined for greatness.
It will eventually find its way.
I have great confidence in this adopted country of mine.
…”It seems to me that now is the moment to address the humanitarian side of this situation. Without the right support, we could miss an opportunity to do some of the good we always stated we intended to do” is RIDICULOUS. the U.S. never invaded, nor does it currently occupy, Iraq because of any intention to do “good” (OR rid Iraq of nuclear weapons, OR rid Iraq of Hussein, OR promote democracy in Iraq). The U.S. did it for greed (oil) and power (to control the oil and hence, have some control over the Middle East). No one cares–not the U.S. OR the current Iraqi goverment–about displaced Iraqi’s. This has been an issue for several years and she’s just now jumping on the bandwagon.
*****************
seriously how about all the soldiers that have already died because of this stupid war/occupation?
eat a steak @ 02/28/2008 at 3:57 pm
IDIOT!!!! WHEN DID SHE SET FOREIGN POLICY AND SECURITY IN A REGION ? CAN YOU COMPREHEND WHAT YOU’RE READING???? GO BACK TO SCHOOL!!
Good to see Indie post again.
I liked your comment on the abc blog very much.
Dinner 128 For the small minded and shallow people who would actually think Angie would be afraid to confront x, please remind them that this is a lady who has traveled to Iraq, Darfur, Sudan, Serra Leone, and other hell on earth places. BUT SHE STILL CHICKENED OUT OF MEETING X….bwahaha all show and NO GO!!!
the problem is that Jolie over simplifies everything ..clean up this mess? haha..it will take DECADES to clean up this mess. GET REAL. 40 million hahhahaha…that’s not ENOUGH.
Why do you think no OTHER US PRESIDENT INCLUDING BUSH the first..did not invade IRAQ before..yeah IT A FUKKKKKING MESS.
JOLIE IS A NAIVE LITTLE TOOL FOR THE BUSH ADMIN.
I can see already that certain factions will take advantage of the fact that many MANY Americans are illiterate, dumb as cheese and have no comprehension skills and try to USE Angelina to make a political point. She is strictly saying there is a humanitarian crisis of enormous proportions (3 million refugees and counting), separate and apart from the qtr million killed and maimed BECAUSE of this needless war. You don’t just leave. However politicians on both sides will assume readers are brain dead…and I expect you’ll see ‘Angelina wants us to stay in Iraq’ articles..implying she is doing something OTHER than calling for assistance for the refugees and displaced people who fled a needless war…by the way, something she’s been doing for 8 years. Why should her reaction and call for help for the refugee millions in Iraq, be different than the same plea she’s made in Darfur, and Sierra Leone. At least, in Angie’s eyes and as she sees it as a UNHCR Ambassador we’re a step ahead in solving this particular humanitarian crisis because we and other countries are there already! The other places can’t get arrested..if Angelina wouldn’t do anything less for the refugees in Iraq than she’d do for those elsewhere in the world.
Thanks for this thread JJ!
It seems then Passing Thru that the radical anti war people are misinterpreting her words. These people want America to pull out now. They don’t care a bout the people over there. They don’t care about genocide that occurred under Suddaim regime or the refugeees caused by the turmoil in Iraq. Angelina was being sensible and caring. I supported the war. and I support staying in IRaq until the country is stabalized and the refugees are back in Iraq in adequate housing and conditions. When that is achieved then most troops should be gon other than some sma contingent will be there like there is in Europe and Japan.

why the heck would she meet the X-woman? those who believed that they were actually supposed to meet better stop drinking the kool-aid.
I love that X left early after getting a talking to from GC. Classic
Face it, folks. Under the you break it, you bought it rule, Iraq is really the 51st state of the union. We may as well add another star to Old Glory and get used to supporting this area forever.

Angie is amazing…I agree with her completely…
we could all help and should all help these refugees;
not only in Iraq, but also throughout Africa….
you go Angie; way to bring awareness…
eat a steak @ 02/28/2008 at 3:35 pm TOO bad the UNHCR has to rely on CELEBRITY
—————————————————————-
Bcoz UNHCR knows that Angelina is the BESTS there is. She’s got BRAINS and GUTS. Thank God they did not get stupid and dumb people like you who spends their time tanning and waxing and spreading hate on their leisure time.
Say what you will: she’s simplistic, naive, not qualified, blah blah.
I’m impressed that she can open her heart to the worst humanitarian crisis in the world and at least tries to do something helpful, instead of hiding in her big house surrounded by luxury, (which is probably what I would do, if I had even 1% of her money)
It takes a strong person to keep learning about and empathize with millions of people who, most likely won’t see any happy ending to their problems, in the hopes of making life better for a statistically small lucky few.
You have to get the idea of WAR out of your head and HUMANITARIAN in it. It’s a different mind set. After all didn’t the Bush administration said the reason to go to Iraq was to deliver the people from the evil Saddam Hussein and “give” them democracy and peace? Well?
Thanks JJ for the new thread about Angelina and this important issue. And thanks to all the sane, rational posters who see the good that Angelina is trying to effect in this world by putting the spotlight on an issue the government would rather cover up than fix.
BECAUSE OF WHO SHE IS AND WHAT SHE DOES, YOU NOW HAVE PEOPLE WHO CAME HERE TO READ CELEBRITY GOSSIP READING AND DISCUSSING AN ARTICLE ABOUT IRAQI REFUGEES. THAT IS HER JOB - TO BRING AWARENESS - AND SHE HAS DONE JUST THAT. SO GO WHINE SOMEWHERE ELSE HATERS. It’s not her job to set the policies of HOW everything gets done, but simply to bring awareness to the issue, and that is EXACTLY what she has done.
An anonymous aid worker would not garner the same kind of attention with an article in the Washington Post that Angelina does, or space in a celebrity gossip blog, and therefore would not be able to bring the same kind of awareness to the issue as Angelina Jolie. Never mind that many aid workers have NOT been to as many refugee camps as Angelina and do not have the same kind of perspective that she bring to the issue. So cast aside your judgmental bias haters and just listen to what she is saying, not WHO is saying it.
Would you expect an aid worker to come up with the full plan of HOW this could all be done, if they simply wrote an article bringing attention to the plight of the Iraqi refugees? NO, of course not. So get over yourselves.
Hello to CMAR - so awesome to see you posting again!! Thank you for your intelligent comments - we are in dire need of that around here these days.

Indie,
I did read her article and I think she is correct in saying we shouldn’t discount the possible anger and what it could potentially generate. I never said that I didn’t like her so I don’t know where you got that from. Yes, it is true that many who are in charge of okaying what goes on in these places are not necessarily there the majority of the time. However, they do devote the majority of their time to researching, strategizing and negotiating these issues. That is their main job and focus. They are not being distracted by film careers and all that that entails. I’m just not impressed with a column that exists solely to generate attention and not action. Think what you want about my opinions and what you think I should go do with them. They are mine and yours are yours. The end.

to the people who have a problem with angelina going to iraq pregnant i think you should consider that she is a mother trying to make the world a better and safer place for her children. how anyone can find fault with that is really beyond me.
Why is it that some will not take Angie at her word. She said that she was a citizen of the world. She shows compassion for refugees and orphan children. She is true to her word. Why would anyone want to bring up petty issues about her involvement.
Peace
She is a freak! Seriously, she’s already acknowledging the fact that she doesn’t get into politics because she doesn’t know enough about them to comment.
She needs to keep to adopting all of the other nation’s orphans, while the US’s children remain orphans !
I think that if she knew what it would mean to stay in Iraq (177 Million dollars a day) she would shut here pie hole. We can still contribute the efforts of restoring life and structure as we did after WW II in other countries but it is not our job to continue to have the men and women in our country dying for a lost cause. Iraq needs to step it up because we are leaving next year! OBAMA 08′

You see in brangieland, she’s never had a nose job, implants, made a mistake, lied, kissed her brother, screwed all her co-stars etc. DAT JUST BE DA WAY IT IS. Wow so in the middle of this world crisis that jolie is supposedly enlightening you on and you’re so obsessed with Aniston you can’t leave her out of this thread…or ANY thread for that matter. Maybe you should see a shrink about. it Or are you that shallow. Jolie trying to save the world and your stuck in 2005 MOVE ON.
-UNHCR is asking the US to set aside an amount of money “for refugees and internally displaced persons.” This money will be used to provide for these people for a year and is less than what the US spends fighting the war per day.
-Displaced Iraqis are not looking for handouts. They want nothing more than “the chance to return to their homes” “or, where those homes have been bombed to the ground or occupied by squatters, to build new ones and get back to their lives.”
- “Fifty-eight percent of these internally displaced people are younger than 12 years old.”
-Angelina Jolie is calling on “the presidential candidates and congressional leaders to announce a comprehensive refugee plan with a specific timeline and budget as part of their Iraq strategy.”
- Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, who has announced the creation of a new committee to oversee issues related to internally displaced people, and a pledge of $40 million to support the effort.
- Army Gen. David Petraeus has offered to support UNHCR’s need for security information and protection for its staff and new efforts to address the humanitarian crisis “to the maximum extent possible”
- The 4 million or more displaced Iraqis are our moral obligation and a potential risk to our national security if the situation is not addressed.

finally. oh sorry you’re not an billionaire actress with a martyr god complex. but good point.
177 MILLION A DAY.
My visit left me even more deeply convinced that we not only have a moral obligation to help displaced Iraqi families, but also a serious, long-term, national security interest in ending this crisis.
Today’s humanitarian crisis in Iraq — and the potential consequences for our national security — are great. Can the United States afford to gamble that 4 million or more poor and displaced people, in the heart of Middle East, won’t explode in violent desperation, sending the whole region into further disorder?
=======================
To me, these are the most important part of her article. It is in the US’ own interest to settle the refugee problem in Iraq. We are doing it for ourselves, and not for the Iraqis when we take care of the problem.

Hi Estelle, LONG TIME NO ‘SEE’. Happy New Year and how have you been? I hope all is well in your world.
shut up @ 02/28/2008 at 4:40 pm
You sound like you have a degree from trailer park university
The UN did not say the US alone should give the $261M. It was a general appeal… Re; Money Allocation
UNHCR this year has appealed for US$261 million for programmes to support the most vulnerable of the uprooted inside and outside Iraq. A total of US$40 million will be for Iraqis displaced inside the country and will also be part of the Consolidated Appeal (CAP) which was launched Tuesday in Baghdad by the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq.
The Iraq CAP of US$265 million aims to meet the immediate needs of the most vulnerable Iraqis who have been displaced inside Iraq.
UNHCR has been assisting internally displaced Iraqis, but getting help to many of them is extremely difficult because of insecurity in much of the country. In 2008, the refugee agency is focusing on getting assistance to 400,000 of the most vulnerable of the displaced people in Iraq.
Last year, UNHCR registered more than 250,000 Iraqis in neighbouring states; gave health assistance to some 210,000 cases and provided educational support in Syria, Jordan and other countries that enabled tens of thousands of refugee children to attend school. Under the 2008 appeal, UNHCR has set a target of bringing the total to 200,000 children in school by the end of this year.
UNHCR is also providing direct assistance to vulnerable families, including a project that provides cash cards for limited monthly withdrawals. Together with the World Food Programme, UNHCR will provide food for up to 360,000 Iraqi refugees in Syria this year. In both Syria and Jordan UNHCR is distributing items such as blankets, heaters, mattresses and other support items.

Hey stupid, Angie did not go because she knows that if she tries to talk to X about Humanitarian work and about Iraq situation your idol will be stunned and turn white because she does not know anything.ha ha ha ha.
Jolie needs to worry about her own sons and future Iraqs, not encouraging soldiers in Iraq to give up their lives for a “humanitarian mission”/SENSELESS WAR.

Seriously, if you want to let the 4 millions angry, poor, desperate people hanging around in 8 hrs flight time away from the US, by all means be my guest. You seemed to have forgotten what happened on 9/11. We will be breeding and encouraging evil fundamentalists who will take advantage of them and use against us. The poor in the US has been neglected by the rich in this country. Iraqis don’t even have rich to neglect them. Wake up, no matter how jealous you are of Angelina, this has nothing to do with your hatred against her. It’s about your backyard.

I always thought that was callous of the news media. One thing Angie is honest and consistent.

Reading is fundamental and as usual the haters, and idiot tools have none of the fundamentals.
Many other Americans, citizens and politicians and soldiers have said the same thing. A soldier who adopted an Iraqi boy said we cannot abandon these people. They did not start this war. They are the victims of it and it is the US moral and political obligation to help the refugees. Not only that it is politically expediant to do so. Another refugee crisis is just more breeding grounds for terorist. Ms. Jolie has every right to express her opinion as a UN ambassador for refugees who has actually been there and spoken to various people. She also has the right as an American citizen. Tel all these bloggers they have no right. there are plenty of political bloggers that have their opinions out there with much less actual experience than Ms. Jolie.
Whose morals are you speaking? She is a mother raising her children and she and her partner are not married. So, I work w/ and know plenty of people who are raising children together and are not married. The Constitution does not say they have no right to participate in the political process. Ms. Jolie is more of a moral person than TC, and the rest of the haters, trolls and coward bloggers in internet world.
Colin Powell said it years ago, You break it, You own it. America owns this Iraqi refugee problem.

Simply put, this is a case of HIT and RUN.
COWARDS! After bombing IRAQ, you just run. No wonder you have lost the respect of the world.
#12: He job is ti shine the light on the plight of the refugees. Now, just what did you not understand about that? IT IS HER JOB FOR THE UN!
The State Dept., the military and the Iraq government must have taken her visit seriously to warrant a face to face with their leaders. She’s not planning strategies or buying votes, she’s saying what she saw!
If it was just a photo op, she would have simply kept quiet and just distributed better pictures with her in full make-up and different designer outfits. But she didn’t, did she? She’s been doing this for years and always writing down the experience and observations. Why would she do anything different on this mission?
The refugees are already iin danger…adding your bleak warnings isn’t gonna make that less so. If you can’t help, just STFU.
And Jared, Thank You So Much for this post. You are great in bringing this article here. Fantastic read! If only all the Lohans, Parises, Britneys, and all the self-centered Anistons could learn from Angelina.

If you don’t like it, get the f*ck off the thread.
to the people hiding behind the mantra “morals, morals” remember the one about judging others? isn’t that also a moral obligation.
What AJ talks about, helping solve the Iraqi refugee problem, is not a zero sum situation. It’s a win win situation. The displaced Iraqis get help, while the US will win the war on terror in the long run. The money used to help resettle the displaced, is only a fraction of what is spent on the war everyday. It’s not like she is robbing the US public and donating it to the Iraqis. Reading comprehension is crucial here.

OT, but what isn’t nowadays?
Ted C. was talking about Angie’s serial adopting. She has adopted three children from third world countries. Sharon Stone has adopted three children from the USA. Is she a serial adopter? Or does that only applies if you adopt from third world countries?
2nd OT, Valarie Bertelnella was on Oprah, didn’t watch but heard about it, and other talk shows. Wasn’t she once considered an All American Girl? From her own mouth she has admitted that while married to Eddie Van Hallen? she committed adultry and did drugs. No outcry?
3rd OT, GC goes to Darfur twice attempts to hold a press confrence to inform UN delegates about the war. Leaves with egg on his face. No one suggested that he shouldn’t have gone, didn’t know enough to start telling people what should be done, or called names. He is still considered the Last Great Movie Star. Peace

Thanks for the thread Just Jared. The Washington Post article was an interesting read. Whether you are for or against the War in Iraq, you cannot deny the human toil it has taken. From the soldiers, to innocent civilians, women and children. It is also a humanitarian crisis of great proportion. AJ through her UN missions and Washington Post Op, write and speak about the Refugee crisis there as she has done for other countries in conflict she has visited. It is not an easy solution but policies, allowing the UN and other Aid organizations access there and financial assistance can help in alleviating the crisis. It is easy to sit and criticize and bring up morals and Hollywood soap opera. The real measure is getting outside your comfort zone and making a difference. Peace to all.
Moral obligations????? Who is she to preach to anyone about morals???? Just because she adopted several children and travels around on photo op missions does not make her the moral authority of the world. What a deluded head case.
Let me guess….now someone is going to tell me that “I’m the deluded headcase” or something of that ilk. I know the routine here so save your energy.

It is in the US best interests to help rebuild Iraq. Part of the rebuilding process is providing SCHOOLS for the children, so that they can become literate and better understand their own country and the world around them.
It is common knowledge that refugee CHILDREN specifically are prime targets for terrorist organizations. The terrorist organizations will offer the children an EDUCATION (biased, but an education) as well as shelter and food, and then groom them to become terrorists. So if you want to stop the cycle of terrorism, you have to step up and offer them a decent life and education so that they will learn the difference between living a good and decent life or becoming a terrorist.
The worst thing that the US could do right now is abandon the Iraqi people. $177 million a day to run a war that has destroyed a country is a tragedy - $177 million a day to rebuild a country into a better and stronger foothold in the Middle East is an INVESTMENT in the people of Iraq and in a more stable Middle East.
Please tell me that even those who don’t like Angelina Jolie can understand THIS. As they say, don’t shoot the messenger!!
Love you sweet Angelina.

Angelina Jolie: Seriously Beautiful
By Amy Argetsinger and Roxanne Roberts
The Washington Post
Thursday, September 29, 2005; Page C03
Jolie, the “U.N. goodwill ambassador,” wears a dark suit and a single strand of pearls. Her hair is expensively streaked. Her eyelashes are impossibly long.
Finally she speaks, declaring that the AIDS fight “needs to be all-inclusive,” tackling hunger and poverty as well. If the war in Iraq costs $5 billion a month, she complains, “three months of the war is all we’re spending on AIDS.”
Biden utters an impressed “Wow.”
“I don’t understand that,” she concludes. “I’m confused about the priorities.”
HAHAHAHA.
She’s confused and I’m confused too.
Thats what Angie was doing that nigth when silly ex was expecting her to come in the nigth before the oscars. ex should do the same. expend some of the millions she got from Brad and make something usefull fro her boring silly life
Francesca @ 02/28/2008 at 4:25 pm Indie,
I did read her article and I think she is correct in saying we shouldn’t discount the possible anger and what it could potentially generate.
I’m just not impressed with a column that exists solely to generate attention and not action. Think what you want about my opinions and what you think I should go do with them. They are mine and yours are yours. The end.
**********************************************************
Poor you, franny. Why must you torture yourself like this?
Anyhoo, here’s a little clue for you, which i hope will help you pull yourself out of your misery and ignorance:
E V E R Y T I M E, that Angelina Jolie makes representation on behalf of the UNHCR (whether through her articles which follow her visit to a humanitarian crisis area of the world (like the topic under discussion on this thread); or through her well publicised visits with refugees in their makeshift shelters, so that those of us who function solely at the level of concrete operations (like you, for example) can SEE the human suffering about which she speaks, the coffers of the UN EXPAND, as in GROW, as in: donations from ALL OVER THE WORLD flood the UN.
Are you getting it yet?
So your patently FALSE statement that : “a column that exists solely to generate attention and not action” only exposes you for the know-nothing empty barrel that you are, yes?
You should get down on your knees and give thanks for the anonymity of the internet whch prevents us from seeing what your particular brand of stupidity looks like.

I have read this article probably 5 times since it was posted at jjb. I am so proud of Angie, it is a very well written, to the point and non-political.
See if it were me, I’d start with ….why the heck did we start this war that made us lose over 4000 wonderful, brave sons and daughters and killed over 200,000 innocent civilians in Iraq etc..! That’s why no one listens to me :-)
But, thats now what Angie wants to point out. She is not going in the reasons why this war started…. What’s done is done! This is the situation NOW and we have a moral obligation as humanitarians to these innocent refugees, most of whom are kids..Also we need to ensure stability and peace so that it won’t become a national/mideast/world security issue in the long run….
BRAVO Angie!

How about the fact that we are fighting someone else’s war with OUR meaning mine and your money? Lets concentrate on bringing our own people back, then we can worry about what the Iraqis will do to get there own back home, as we are fighting for their freedom and rights.
#67: She is stating her opinion. No need to bite her head off. Listen to the radio and watch news channels. People there are opining all the time. How come she gets your sole attention?
Did she say she had a plan that the government must follow? Is it her job to crunch out numbers for you to show she’s legit? It is an OP-ED! Do you go after everyone who does one? I’m sure you do since you’re so proud of your superior intellect. Your IQ is higher than hers, right? So why can’t you take her opinion as what it is, an opinion!
She can’t even improve the climate in the relationship with her own father….why should we listen to her on the larger issues?

Malick officially shooting in Smithville
By Chris Garcia | Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 02:07 PM
The Statesman’s Michael Corcoran — sort of a blend of Bob Woodward and Kelso — shoots us this crackling dispatch straight from the perilous terrain of Smithville:
It’s official. After weeks of rumors and speculation, the location manager of “Tree of Life,” the Terrence Malick project starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn, addressed the Smithville City Council on Monday night to talk about filming there, which will begin at the end of March.
The shoot will last approximately three months, location manager John Patterson said.
“Security is going to be a big issue with( the film company),” says Smithville city manager Tex Middlebrook, who laughed and said he’d met notoriously private director Malick a few times without knowing who he was until recently.
Middlebrook says he helped the crew find and move a 60,000 pound live oak — the title tree — to a back yard in Smithville last week. Many of the cast and crew on the film, a 1950s period piece, have rented houses in Smithville, a town of 4,000 located 45 miles east of Austin.
Although Pitt has not been officially confirmed, he recently told Charlie Rose in an interview that his next project would be “Tree of Life.” It’s not known if Angelina Jolie and the kids will accompany Pitt to the town that might as well be called “Pittville” for the next four months.

Nonsense! We are all entitled to express our view. Angelina is a UNHCR goodwill ambassador, who has made two trips to Iraq, and knows plenty about the refugees crisis. She knows what she’s talking about. I think she’s right!
The US destroyed that country, the invasion and war caused the displacement of many Iraqis, and other countries, mainly Syria and Jordan, overrun with Iraqi refugees. The coalition, mainly the US, owes it to the Iraqi people to build up what they have destroyed!
That requires the coalition to stay there for a while, not to fight, but to build and repair the infrastructure and help the people who have fled return to their homes.
papa pitt,im very proud of ur babies momma.
# 104 /// @ 02/28/2008 at 3:44 pm It is so funny that all these naysayers have all these opinions and comments about Angelina, expecting her to provide solutions, yet they do not demand the same from the president and the other politicians who got us into the mess that is Iraq in the first place.
——————————————–
Thank you - well said
Some of these troll(s) comments are too silly to reply to. Too pitiful and midly amusing. AJ is one celebrity that get people thinking about other issues such as the Refugee crisis in various countries. BP is another celebrity who is making a difference. Obviously, some are threaten by AJ. She manages to get her message across and substantial press without giving away 20% of her income to a greedy PR agent and use that money instead to help others.
She is a woman that follows through on her commitments and not sit and whine in a Malibu mansion about the Paps and lack of privacy. BP and AJ feel that while the media is so obsessed with their every moment, then they can follow them into areas, towns and countries where the people and problems are forgotten. AJ is someone that I admire and I wish her all the best.

It must be nice to sit up in your ivory tower and laugh about the plight of millions of starving children with no parents. Angelina has no obligation to adopt, feed, cloth, raise, and educate any of these children, and yet she has chosen to do so.
Just think, she could be spending her time with you up in your Ivory Tower, where I’m sure there’s a tanning bed and coochie waxing room, but instead she has chosen to spend her time on people and issues that MATTER. Now run along, I think I see a stray hair springing out of your too small bikini. Can’t have that now, can we? Tsk, tsk, remember your priorities hon!

======================
angie’s words:
If the war in Iraq costs $5 billion a month, she complains, “three months of the war is all we’re spending on AIDS.” “I don’t understand that,” she concludes. “I’m confused about the priorities.”
What Angie meant was that “she was confused about our government priorites. How can we spend $5billion/month for war while so little for war on AIDS.
I think I know you knew what she was talking about. YOU just want to rant. Based on your ranting post after post, it is either you are stupid with limited reading comprehension or just plain lost it-again! You already made up your mind about angie so there;s no point of convincing you that you’re simply delusional. this is just an FYI, i;m not arguing with you.
I will leave you a food for thought:
Don’t argue with a fool. The spectators can’t tell the difference
-Nalin, C.
I don’t wan’t the spectators to think that I am fool so I will you leave you to your foolishness.
cool beans for all the fans…all you haters should be ashamed. why are you all even here?

Face it, folks. Under the you break it, you bought it rule, Iraq is really the 51st state of the union. We may as well add another star to Old Glory and get used to supporting this area forever.
—————————————————————-
Why shouldn’t we? That is exactly what Angie is saying - we broke it we need to stick around and help “fix” it. Great article from a GREAT lady.
She speaks on her firsthand experience of talking with troops and Iraqi refugees getting both sides of the story. which is more than I can see about a lot of new personalities constantly giving their opinion but haven’t even bothered to go to Iraq themselves (i.e. O’Reilly who just went to Iraq for the first time a few months ago). The Iraqi civilians and refugees are the one’s being ignored in this war. 600,000 Iraqi civilians died and only 55,000 insurgents were killed in this illegal war. In 2003 the number insurgents was 15,000 today the number has increased to 70,000. 80% of the Iraqi citizens want the U.S to leave in order to gain control of their country and start rebuilding they cannot do that with soldiers stifling their progress. These people are the true victims of this so called war on terrorism.

Being a mother AND a doctor is one thing, but being an actor; someone who actually lives through the media and is therefor much more recognized and present( and often someone most people either like or hate); and ambassador, coupled with her accusing way, is a totally different thing.(and she´s even a mother)
After all actors should only be there to entertain.
And fact is that most people don´t care who the “real” people behind the facade are.
They want to read the newest scandals, know all about the new romances…..the petty stuff, you see?
So this is what most people (the ones who don´t bother with this site at all) will think : ” Ah, there she is again, telling other people what to do, believes she´s all high and mighty, easy talk if you have the millions to back you up- let´s see what Doug and Kerry are doing:”
And that´s the way it is.
Whenever I hear someone talking about her, it´s only bad stuff.(especially a year or so after her relationship with Brad was announced)
I don´t have a real problem with her, it´s just that stuff like this gets on my nerves- and not only when it´s her but other actors as well.(It´s just that there´s always so much more stuff posted about Angelina)
I got bored with Usher, LOST, Johnny Depp (at times)….ect. Nothing personal.
How could it be?
I don´t even know thoese people. And despite all your big words here (to the “agressive” Angie front) neither do you.
This is just a board where people voice their opinions, and most of them just don´t care that much- don´t forget that.
guli,
Thanks. I believe many people don’t have a clue as to what a military experience completely encompasses. Oh, it was the greatest experience and most one can learn on a variety of trades, skills, disciplines along with the combat training…The military highly trained to carry-out any mission where directed efficiently…I believe Angelina’s piece is suggesting since military personnel are already there, re - direct some of them to do the humanitarian deeds for which they are also trained…This is what the front line troops want.

_______________
That’s exactly what she and Brad have been doing in New Orleans. Make It Right - ever heard of it? DUH Too bad your government didn’t step up and meet the obligation there either. But at least they haven’t gone in and caused more destruction there. The US Government needs to meet the obligation it has to its citizens AND the citizens of Iraq. Both are decimated. Meanwhile the band plays on…
Anustin - Happy Birthday my fellow Maple Syrup drinker ;-) Hope you have a good one… flashing coochie in a too small bikini - that’s the ONLY obligation it has to her fans. Must be nice to have everyone expect so little from it. Unlike Angie, who everyone expects the sun, moon, and stars from. But our girl is tough and smart - she can meet the challenge.
I can’t believe that Angie’s visit to Iraq is being made a political volleyball. It’s not a political mission, it’s a humanitarian mission. I can’t get over the short sightness of some people. If some people would stop reading celebrity gossip and pick up a book or real news, they could make more informed decisions and perpectives than what i’ve read on some responses. To each it’s own, but i can understand why there are so many different opinions. All i’m saying is that some have pre-conceived opinions which have no validitys on Angies’s mission. I’m out of here for now.
Peace
USA destroyed the Iraq country and tries to rebuild it. Labeling that effort a USA humanitarian contribution to Iraq is just immorally deceptive.
I like and respect AJ a lot, but I don’t think that our presidential candidates need to go through her to decide what our Iraq policy should be. We are in a financial freefall and we cannot afford to be in Iraq indefinitely. We are spending billions of dollars a month and our economy is tanking, and Americans are losing their jobs and their homes. We need to find a way to withdraw from Iraq over the next two years and invite the rest of the world to get involved in the rebuilding of the region. The US is not the only country that benefits from peace in the middle east and its time to get everyone else involved. Hopefully, our new President (go Obama) will take a different route to foreign policy than Bush and we can get some things accomplished.
I can understand that as UNHCR rep, Jolie wants to plead for the funds, not that UNHCR gets its funds from individual donors but never mind.
I can understand that in that UNHCR role, she can’t express an opinion on the occupation.
What I can’t understand is why she would allow her article to appear under the headline “A Reason to Stay in Iraq”.
That sounds to everybody like a clear call for continued occupation. And that would be WAY out of line for a UNHCR rep. So either she agreed to that headline, in which case she’d better quit working for the UN, or somebody at the Washington Post owes her a major apology - preferably in print.

#147: Funny as to who you’re calling a chicken…
Your idol was there only for an hour, why? Cause she saw the pictures of the bump that was circulating around people’s phones and blackberries. If she couldn’t stand up to a picture, how will she be able to withstand the real thing? Hmmm, when Brad starts whispering in Angie’s ear and Angie starts rubbing his tattooed belly, do you think your idol will just smile and say, how sweet?

Help Iraqi refugees or they may come to Europe: U.N.
Thu Feb 28, 2008 10:20am EST
By Peter Apps
LONDON (Reuters) - Iraqi refugees who are running out of money in Syria may head for Europe if the international community fails to supply sufficient relief funding, the United Nations said on Thursday.
“I think they will move north if things don’t get better,” UNHCR head of operations in Syria, Laurens Jolles, told reporters on a trip to Europe aimed in part at boosting funding from governments.
The number of Iraqis seeking asylum in European Union member states doubled in 2007 from the previous year to almost 40,000.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says 1.5 million Iraqis have fled sectarian violence to neighboring Syria and more might move towards the EU in the hope of jobs, safety and better conditions.
Overall, Iraq has produced 4.5 million refugees and internally displaced people. Numbers soared after attacks on mosques in February 2006 sparked widespread ethnic violence.
Hundreds of thousands are also in Jordan and Lebanon, and growing numbers have fled beyond the Middle East.
UNHCR says it needs $261 million to increase food relief and assistance across the region. Some 30 percent will likely be funded by the United States.
Angelina has a moral obligation to love her bio children as much as she loves and dotes on her adopted ones.
Just my opinion. Everyone has a right to one….

Really good summation of the article. I totally enjoy being a fan of Angie’s and Brad. Brad came late to my embrace. Always thought he was kinda good looking. But after his interview with Diane Sawyer where they went to Africa I told my girl friend that I was in love. He had changed and he looked different. Now I am hooked.
# 245 Felinelilly
It was after his second trip to Darfur. He had a press conference where he was asked some questions and didn’t know the answers to them. Plus the delegates were upset that he had called the press conference as if to inform them about what was happening in Darfur. The inference being that after two visits he felt compelled to lecture them. I can’t remember everything as GC is not one of my favorite people. To put it bluntly I don’t like him. JJ has it still in archives. Peace
I was wrong..dakota jean is the real winner for dumbest post.
Everyone has a right to act and look stupid, don’t make it less stupid because you have the right. JMHO
I’m proud to be Angelina’s fan. I think this is a very well written opinion and I concur with her assessment of the refugee situation. I’m not pro war by any means but the fact remains that the U.S. needs to clean up the havoc it’s created in Iraq.
And, by sheer virtue of being penned by Angelina Jolie, this opinion will travel the world over and will be read by millions of people. IMO, it helps by pressuring the U.S. presidential candidates to state their position on the Iraq refugee crisis . . . it is already all over the blogs and many tabloid magazines (which cater for the most part to a dumb demographic) reaching people that usually are more prone to pick up and read a gossip magazine than a newspaper. ONLY ANGELINA could accomplish this.

I remember the press conference being kind of crazy when he got there, but I didn’t know what happened during. Thanks. :) That’s embarassing!
It’s not her ROLE as UN goodwill ambassador to encourage US to stay in Iraq or to set US foreign policy as an occupying MILITARY force in the world.

What an uneducated dummy you are. Angie was in Iraq and Syria just 6 months ago.
When was your last trip there? Never of course.
dumb azz Margot…she has stated on many occasions she loves her father, she does not hate him, she wishes him the best. The fact that he abandoned his children at 6 mos and 3 yrs old and has no relationship with them to this day, is HIS fault..not Angelina’s, you idiot. She is showing her mettle and her maturity by not being around poisonous people and unhealthy relationships …what’s your rational Margot for angie reaching out once again and setting herself up for disappointment..and this time, having her own children hurt by him perhaps. He’s a flake and a drama queen, she owes him nothing. He had his chance. Only the bitter irrational jealous fanistons have the audacity to take the side of a dead beat dad who left his family and most of the time skipped child support payments..I honestly think these angry old bags hate the beautiful angie so much they’d side with hitler against her. rational logic just goes right out the window. Bizarrely enuf, the woman that gave birth, raised, clothed, and fed Maniston to 21, is living like a homeless person banished from her ugly daughters life..yet maniston is the nice girl next door in their eyes..in what world does that even approach logic?? Oh the fugly bitter jealous ‘Wargo’ world, I forgot. lolol
…and dear coal..I’ve been here all day, and have not only commented several times on angie’s piece….I emailed JJ to put it up…so if I want to relay that Owen Wilson wants Maniston off his dog movie, I can.
lighten up.
I am selling my 2 new mint copies of the People mag spread on eBay if anyone is interested ( sorry for the spam!, need grad school money) under KeysMama
I am so proud to be a fan of hers.
Angie has the right to write an article and voice her opinion just like anyone else in the US. As I recall, this is a free country and each one of us can voice our opinions. Her article is a lot better then that tabloid article from ABC.com.
GO ANGIE!!!!!!!
One more comment; she is right about people being displaced and homeless being right picking for terrorist groups. Especially when there are a large number of children involved. I see that her heart is focused on the children. Now that does not sound like a depressed, mentally unbalanced person. She wants to make a difference in the world. Great article.
yikes
___________
It is her roll, however, to go to these places, observe and speak with the refugees (and soldiers in this instance), and then provide her observations and suggestions in an effort to bring awareness to the issue. That is NOT considered ’setting policy’. Some of you like to throw around very official sounding language without understanding exactly what it means or entails.

IRAQ is overflowing with oil, which now costs over $100 per barrel.
Do you really think the US will get out of Iraq?
If the US pulls out of Iraq, chaos will follow, there will be civil war in Iraq, Iran will invade Iraq, Saudi Arabia and other oil-rich nations may get involved, oil shoots up to $1000 per barrel, US economy will suffer, unemployment will rise, Al-qaeda will attack US and then US military goes back to the MIddle East to fight.

“So either she agreed to that headline, in which case she’d better quit working for the UN, or somebody at the Washington Post owes her a major apology - preferably in print.”
Depending on the newspaper if a newspaper article is not an OpEd piece, the newspaper editors have total control over sentences, titles and final say. The reasoning is because many free lancers, regular salaried reporters plus ad space contribute to the making of the total that every character space is important and number of characters in any one article is limited to fit into a format. News related paper text are on a deadline and often many articles don’t even make the final cut because editing, cutting and re-formating is done at a hectic pace. A free lancing writer submits an article and the text could be totally revised, chopped up at time of print or totally omitted. Once submitted to the newspaper, they own it and can do what they want with it, consequently no apologies unless factual and statistical corrections. They decide where it is placed, whose article can be longer than another, and the worthiness of the article. You don’t even get your original article returned to you regardless if it is chosen to be printed or not.

Another of the ignorant uneducated rears it’s empty head. Angelina clearly totally loves all her children, no matter their genetic origination. Anyone who has managed to attain the most basic level of education sees that she is a wonderful mom with endless love for all her kids. She will also dearly love her soon to be new child and all the other future kids she and Brad bring into their family.
Really irritates you that she is pregnant once again with Brad’s baby doesn’t it?
Put down Life & Lies and In Touch, attend some adult education classes, then pick up some legitmate news sources and learn the truth. Ignorance is not bliss.

Yes I have, several times in fact, and I agree with Angelina, angry homeless displaced people become angry homeless displaced people who sometimes carry out horrific acts. Look no further than the prime example of the Palestinian people who were removed from their homes and now are angry homeless displaced frustrated people many years later. Iraq is sadly on the way to becoming another Israel-Palestine war zone due to Bush’s folly. He will live the high life in Dallas while many more people die due to him, not that he cares.

Thank you!! That was exactly what the point of the article was… Angie wasn’t suggesting to keep the troops there to continue combat… Some of them can help with the rebuilding/humanitarian effort. Like you said , they have been trained for it and they are also very familiar with the people/culture/surroundings etc. And most importantly they witnessed some of their friends die or get hurt badly. They also witnessed many, many innocent people and kids from Iraq killed. You might know this better, but IMO I think they would want to see a success after this war is over. That all they went thru was somehow worth it…
I am proud of her.

Hi cook,
ITA on both your points. Many people are armchair critics of the military.
Military personnel often are the only ones in a position of advantage to organize and follow through especially when dealing with such a large number of refugees. Private contractors are too expensive and don’t have the influence nor the employee “power” to accomplish such a major task.

Where is the oil that you are talking about if we are taking it away from the Iraqis?
===========================
That is the $64 million dollar question that needs to be answered. Why is it that despite the US presence in Iraq, which has the 4th largest proven oil reserves, the price of oil is sky rocketing?
With all its oil riches, Iraq is still devastated and unrecognizable. Who takes care of the oil money?
With regards to Kuwait, the Kuwait government paid for the war expenses by selling cheap oil to the US for a certain number of years.
THE PRESENCE OF US IN IRAK IS OCCUPATION, THAT’S THE TRUE !!
THEY SAY THEY WON’T LIVE IRAQ BEFORE 200???, BUT SHAME ON USA, THE KILLED THOUSANDS OF CIVILIAN IRAQIS, SPOILED THEIR OIL, CAUSE YES, THEY WOULD HAVE NEVER MADE THIS WAR IF IRAK HADN’T OIL .

The problems in the Middle East are more complex than dealing with displaced Iraqis and their immediate needs. National Security is at stake, both theirs and most especially ours. Let’s not forget what happened on September 11.
God bless the Troops out there, I served there too. But simply showing up in the Green Zone with a flak vest while being covered down by the US Armed Forces does not give Angelina Jolie the bigger picture, nor the capacity to fully comprehend the dangers that lurk in a region of unrest.
It takes a lot to scare me…especially on the internet but I have to say, this shut up person scares the lving daylights out of me. By my last count, there are 311 comments on this thread and 52 of them is by shut up (yeah, yeah…I have enough time on my hands to count). Seriously though, this is way beyond not liking AJ, this person is clearly unhinged which is really sad to see but you know what’s sadder still… while this person here ranting and raving like a lunatic in the market place, wasting all her energy, she fails to realize AJ will continue live a full life and no angry rant, No insulting words….not even the evil thoughts of bitter hags can take that away.
Instead of getting angry with this silly hens, I’m just gonna shake my head and feel sorry for them. Seriously, can you imagine how miserable their lives are? I don’t even want to go there.
To AJ…I say BRAVO and keep on keeping on.
Indie
I like your style…your posts are few and far between but when do they come, it’s always with pearls of wisdom.
Thanks Jared! You’ll always be the best.
And a big hello to all JP fans.
Thats really a good op-ed, its simply written and yet the message is very clear.
Angie is much better than most newspaper editors who gives their opinions based on what they hear and read only and never been to where the action is. Angie’s piece is credible since she made it a point to visit and talk to the people concerned herslef and see the real situation first hand.

Good evening to the JPs fans thanks for the new thread Jared.
Bravo Angie well said, love her. She will always be blessed.
As carolina says hi regulars, smile

Where is the oil that you are talking about if we are taking it away from the Iraqis?
===========================
That is the $64 million dollar question that needs to be answered. Why is it that despite the US presence in Iraq, which has the 4th largest proven oil reserves, the price of oil is sky rocketing?
Because OPEC sets the price, not the US!
With all its oil riches, Iraq is still devastated and unrecognizable. Who takes care of the oil money?
The Iraqi Ministry that handles oil. Hope they do a good job!
I bet American oil companies are negotiating to acquire lucrative many-decades concessions, and have them signed before the coalition has to leave.

Under Secretary for Democracy and Global Affairs Paula Dobriansky and Actress and Humanitarian Angelina Jolie Meet with Abd al-Samad Sultan, Iraq’s Minister of Displacement and Migration
Under Secretary for Democracy and Global Affairs Paula Dobriansky and Angelina Jolie, Actress and Humanitarian Visit Baghdad to Discuss Humanitarian Efforts
February 7, 2008
Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs Paula Dobriansky and Angelina Jolie traveled to Iraq February 7, 2008 to discuss U.S. humanitarian relief efforts for Internally Displaced Persons and conflict victims. They met with key Iraqi officials, including Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki, Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari and Ministry of Displacement and Migration Abd al-Samad Sultan. They also met with United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) Special Representative Steffan De Mistura, discussing the United Nations response to refugee-related issues in the region. Together, both held meetings with locally employed staff at the U.S. Embassy and internally displaced persons, discussing specific cases and needs.
Ms. Jolie was in the region six months ago on a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) mission addressing these issues. On her return to the United States, she met with representatives of the Department of State, the National Security Council, and the Department of Homeland Security to discuss shared concerns about Internally Displaced Persons. This trip is a follow-up mission to support and implement joint solutions to assist Iraqi’s displaced population.
“I am concerned as a humanitarian, of course, but I am also concerned as an American about the desperation and aggression that can come from years of neglect and displacement,” Ms. Jolie said.
While in Baghdad, Under Secretary Dobriansky and Ms. Jolie met with Charge d’Affaires Patricia A. Butenis and General David H. Petraeus. They also shared a meal with members of the Multi-National Forces-Iraq and U.S. Foreign Service Officers.
Ms. Jolie expressed her strong support and gratitude for the dedication of U.S. troops and Foreign Service Officers. “I was glad to have the opportunity to come to Baghdad and thank them face-to-face,” she said.

Thank you for pointing that out. I remember this because it was around the holidays when she addressed this speech to a gathering regarding the residual effects of Katrina on NOLA’s children. Of course, the haters don’t remember this because they were fixated on potato chips and trips to KFC.

ITA!
At this point, the nonmeeting is moot. The issue is about putting on a front and the tabloids/gossip bloggers enabling that behavior.
A person who is truly together doesn’t have to prove to the public that he/she is together. If you have it together, down to the bone, it is irrelevant what happens in the public and private spheres and what the public thinks. Lindsay Lohan, Amy Winehouse, Paris Hilton, etc. are perfect examples of putting on airs that they have it together when they clearly don’t. What’s galling the haters is, clearly, Angelina has it together.

From an interview with Janet Jackson
Q - I’m not sure if you’re aware of this, but there’s an Internet war between Janet and Madonna fans. I know you and Madonna had some beef in the ’90s, but do you think the heat between Madonna and Janet fans has any validity?
Janet - No—I didn’t know this was going on. [Laughs]
Q - They argue, make videos and, of course, it’s mostly the gay fans. So people are curious: What are your thoughts on Madonna now?
Janet - I think she’s done wonderful things. She’s done great things in her career, in her life, and more power to her. I think fans will always be that way—always. They’re just incredibly loyal and they love you so much that if anyone says anything remotely negative, they’re there to just immediately jump on them. It’ll always be that way—very loyal.
Celebs know their fans are loyal.

Thank you for the link. She’s beautiful and so elegant.
Having just returned from a trip to Iraq, Angelina Jolie has penned an opinion piece for The Washington Post, in which she assessed her findings on how the war has devastated the people of that region: “More than 2 million people are refugees inside their own country — without homes, jobs and, to a terrible degree, without medicine, food or clean water. Ethnic cleansing and other acts of unspeakable violence have driven them into a vast and very dangerous no-man’s land. Many of the survivors huddle in mosques, in abandoned buildings with no electricity, in tents or in one-room huts made of straw and mud.” By way of fairness, the paper has opened up their op/ed section to Jennifer Aniston too, whose own column, “Whole Foods: Why Can’t They Stay Open Until 11?” should appear early next week.

One more comment; she is right about people being displaced and homeless being right picking for terrorist groups.
Very true! Refugee camps are the perfect place to recruit haters and future suicide bombers.
Especially when there are a large number of children involved. I see that her heart is focused on the children. Now that does not sound like a depressed, mentally unbalanced person. She wants to make a difference in the world. Great article.
Let haters (loosies) say what they want. It IS a great article.

Hi Estelle, yes and no gym today :)
I posted this on another blogsite earlier, and I am posting it here also cause it is also in reference to the haters/trolls on this site
Way to go Angie. I am so proud of you and what you are doing. Keep up the good work. The people on here that are calling Angie names, are people that don’t matter. Angelina Jolie is going to places and helping people that some of these people on this site would never set their foot on, or even interact with some of these people that Angie meet on her humanitarian trips, cause some of the people on this site, think they are better than those people, who have no homes to go too, no foods, no clothes, no water etc, but here we have someone that is willing to take the risk and go to these places and bring awareness of the plight of these forgotten refugees and people on here have the audacity to criticize her, let me see you all going to the places she has been to and continue to go too, then maybe I will listen to what you pathetic people have to say, otherwise shut the hell up about this woman and the work she is doing.
Angelina Jolie have met with heads of states; the US top General in Iraq, Presidents, people who are important and people who really matter, and people who listen to her, who respect her, and who are working together with her to help the refugees that are displaced all over the world, those are the people that matter, not a bunch of idiots on a blog site that have no life and only purpose in life is to hate on people they don’t know.
BRAVO TO ANGELINA JOLIE. GREAT & WELL WRITTEN ARTICLE. THANKS FOR BRINGING TO LIGHT THE PLIGHT OF THE REFUGEES IN IRAQ AND AROUND THE WORLD
Ahhhh…that is why you are home already. Darn, this thread refresh is horrible.

Estelle, when I go to the gym after work I usually get home about 7PM and I leave work at 5PM
Dear Clini - saw your post - I know you did, which is why I included the word ‘more’ in my post :-) I was enjoying your POV on this issue!
I don’t know that I’ll ever chill out on the subject of refugees - a few people here know that when I was growing up we helped/sponsored a refugee family from Cambodia - gave them a place to live in the apartment building we owned. It was a young couple and their nephew. His English wasn’t very good, so when my bro. and I had the job of taking him to school and making sure he found his way to the ESL classroom etc. we got to spend some time with him, but couldn’t really have a proper conversation.
However my parents told us that he had seen his parents and sisters murdered, and I can honestly say that I’ve never encountered anyone in my life before or since who had such sadness in their eyes, and looked so ‘haunted’ in their expression. I can’t even imagine the atrocities he had witnessed. And of course he was like a wise but sad old man compared to the flippant, light-hearted teenagers that we were. We didn’t have the easiest childhood, but it was a cake-walk compared to what he had been through…
Brad looks so young in the new pics!! How is that even possible??
And i love that Brad is always with his family!! Yeah, Brad and Angie are never apart from each other!!
coalharbourqt - oh wow, can you tell us how are they doing now, do you know?
Great posts, Alexanderina and Orchid!
Love that new pic of Brad - he looks so happy, strutting down the street with his coffee thinking “MY woman is published in The Washington Post. Yes, that’s right, MY woman. I am so damn proud of her”.
