OlderAngelina Jolie: We Have a Moral Obligation to Help Iraqi Refugees
We have finally reached a point where humanitarian assistance, from us and others, can have an impact.
UNHCR goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie visited Iraq earlier this month and penned her experience for The Washington Post.
Here are some excerpts from Angie’s excellent opinion piece: “During my trip I also met with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, who has announced the creation of a new committee to oversee issues related to internally displaced people, and a pledge of $40 million to support the effort.
“My visit left me even more deeply convinced that we not only have a moral obligation to help displaced Iraqi families, but also a serious, long-term, national security interest in ending this crisis.
“Today’s humanitarian crisis in Iraq — and the potential consequences for our national security — are great. Can the United States afford to gamble that 4 million or more poor and displaced people, in the heart of Middle East, won’t explode in violent desperation, sending the whole region into further disorder?”

1) Some of you are really embarrasing– you cannot be critical without resorting to insults. You can agree or disagree with Ms. Jolie’s opinion, but you must learn to control your emotions.
2) Some of you need to understand that Angelina Jolie don’t need anyone telling them what they can or cannot be, or do, or think about, or dream of doing. It is not for you to judge or say “she should do this, or should not do that.”
3) Be logical. Be fair. Check your Assumptions. Think through the implications. : BE A CRITICAL THINKER. Show some integrity.
Ms. Jolie’s observations and efforts are remarkable. I only have the highest respect for her and everyone involved in making changes.

We can still contribute the efforts of restoring life and structure as we did after WW II in other countries but it is not our job to continue to have the men and women in our country dying for a lost cause.

Ted C. was talking about Angie’s serial adopting. She has adopted three children from third world countries. Sharon Stone has adopted three children from the USA. Is she a serial adopter? Or does that only applies if you adopt from third world countries?
2nd OT, Valarie Bertelnella was on Oprah, didn’t watch but heard about it, and other talk shows. Wasn’t she once considered an All American Girl? From her own mouth she has admitted that while married to Eddie Van Hallen? she committed adultry and did drugs. No outcry?
3rd OT, GC goes to Darfur twice attempts to hold a press confrence to inform UN delegates about the war. Leaves with egg on his face. No one suggested that he shouldn’t have gone, didn’t know enough to start telling people what should be done, or called names. He is still considered the Last Great Movie Star. Peace
I so love Angie and for those who try to twist this act into negative. Shame on you! But it’s no surprise it represents who X really is, plain selfishness and thinks of nothing but herself.

Thanks for the thread Just Jared. The Washington Post article was an interesting read. Whether you are for or against the War in Iraq, you cannot deny the human toil it has taken. From the soldiers, to innocent civilians, women and children. It is also a humanitarian crisis of great proportion. AJ through her UN missions and Washington Post Op, write and speak about the Refugee crisis there as she has done for other countries in conflict she has visited. It is not an easy solution but policies, allowing the UN and other Aid organizations access there and financial assistance can help in alleviating the crisis. It is easy to sit and criticize and bring up morals and Hollywood soap opera. The real measure is getting outside your comfort zone and making a difference. Peace to all.
Moral obligations????? Who is she to preach to anyone about morals???? Just because she adopted several children and travels around on photo op missions does not make her the moral authority of the world. What a deluded head case.
Let me guess….now someone is going to tell me that “I’m the deluded headcase” or something of that ilk. I know the routine here so save your energy.
Maybe Angie can use her action fighting skills from Tomb Raider to fight AL Qaeda.

I am extremely Proud of Angelina.
Angelina is trying to ”HELP” her ”0p- Ed ” was a great read and she is Genuinely Concern in helping the Refugees. At times I feel as if I’m in the ”Twilight Zone” My heart weeps for Angelina- she can’t ever do right with these ”Hagatha’s”, she gets blasted in every great turn she does- it’s never good enough for you Losers…just dayum.. :roll:
