Angelina Jolie: We Have a Moral Obligation to Help Iraqi Refugees

We have finally reached a point where humanitarian assistance, from us and others, can have an impact.

UNHCR goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie visited Iraq earlier this month and penned her experience for The Washington Post.

Here are some excerpts from Angie’s excellent opinion piece: “During my trip I also met with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, who has announced the creation of a new committee to oversee issues related to internally displaced people, and a pledge of $40 million to support the effort.

“My visit left me even more deeply convinced that we not only have a moral obligation to help displaced Iraqi families, but also a serious, long-term, national security interest in ending this crisis.

“Today’s humanitarian crisis in Iraq — and the potential consequences for our national security — are great. Can the United States afford to gamble that 4 million or more poor and displaced people, in the heart of Middle East, won’t explode in violent desperation, sending the whole region into further disorder?”

>WTF is your gadam problem???????????????????????

US OUT OF IRAQ. OBAMA is going to do a better job than that pr whorealina.

Why would someone question why Angie doesn’t do anything domestically for our country. She is!!!! What about New Orleans. It wasn’t long ago that the news media called the people who were flooded out due to the hurricane Katrina refugees. Remember????
I always thought that was callous of the news media. One thing Angie is honest and consistent.

Peace

Reading is fundamental and as usual the haters, and idiot tools have none of the fundamentals.

Many other Americans, citizens and politicians and soldiers have said the same thing. A soldier who adopted an Iraqi boy said we cannot abandon these people. They did not start this war. They are the victims of it and it is the US moral and political obligation to help the refugees. Not only that it is politically expediant to do so. Another refugee crisis is just more breeding grounds for terorist. Ms. Jolie has every right to express her opinion as a UN ambassador for refugees who has actually been there and spoken to various people. She also has the right as an American citizen. Tel all these bloggers they have no right. there are plenty of political bloggers that have their opinions out there with much less actual experience than Ms. Jolie.

Whose morals are you speaking? She is a mother raising her children and she and her partner are not married. So, I work w/ and know plenty of people who are raising children together and are not married. The Constitution does not say they have no right to participate in the political process. Ms. Jolie is more of a moral person than TC, and the rest of the haters, trolls and coward bloggers in internet world.

Colin Powell said it years ago, You break it, You own it. America owns this Iraqi refugee problem.

I truely believe she was pregnant when these pictures were taken. I made the comment that she looked tired. And was immediately jumped on.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

. SHUT UP!

What’s happen to soulie jolie.com????
————————————————

It got hacked and had to be taken down temporarily.

I think that if she knew what it would mean to stay in Iraq (177 Million dollars a day) she would shut here pie hole. We can still contribute the efforts of restoring life and structure as we did after WW II in other countries but it is not our job to continue to have the men and women in our country dying for a lost cause. Iraq needs to step it up because we are leaving next year! OBAMA 08′

++++++++++++++++++++++++

Simply put, this is a case of HIT and RUN.

COWARDS! After bombing IRAQ, you just run. No wonder you have lost the respect of the world.

the real tita @ 02/28/2008 at 4:58 pm

#12: He job is ti shine the light on the plight of the refugees. Now, just what did you not understand about that? IT IS HER JOB FOR THE UN!

The State Dept., the military and the Iraq government must have taken her visit seriously to warrant a face to face with their leaders. She’s not planning strategies or buying votes, she’s saying what she saw!

If it was just a photo op, she would have simply kept quiet and just distributed better pictures with her in full make-up and different designer outfits. But she didn’t, did she? She’s been doing this for years and always writing down the experience and observations. Why would she do anything different on this mission?

The refugees are already iin danger…adding your bleak warnings isn’t gonna make that less so. If you can’t help, just STFU.

And Jared, Thank You So Much for this post. You are great in bringing this article here. Fantastic read! If only all the Lohans, Parises, Britneys, and all the self-centered Anistons could learn from Angelina.

alia @ 02/28/2008 at 4:51 pm
this one isn’t Iraq, it is Pakistan; but it is a gorgeous pic of Angie:

Thanks! I know — I think this is taken a few days after that famous “Brad taking juju herbs in Kenyan Hotel, keeping his woman happy” episode LOL! Really, look at her, can you blame Brad? LOL!

# 12 os @ 02/28/2008 at 2:37 pm She needs to butt out of this stuff before she causes some really big problems. She should not be allowed to involve herself in matters as sensitive as these are. She is overstepping boundries.

….And don’t tell me it’s her “moral obligation”. She could be endangering lives worse then they already are.

How dare you. Who the F*** are you to tell AJ what to do? What have YOU done? As to those who whine that she’s just “an actress”, what the he** was R. Regan? Or our dearest current governor in California? If this country sees it ok to elect an ACTOR as president, then Ms. Jolie can say whatever the he** she likes. So STFU bit*ches. BAMPZS+1(2) lives! If you don’t like it, get the f*ck off the thread.

vickifromtexas @ 02/28/2008 at 5:00 pm

to the people hiding behind the mantra “morals, morals” remember the one about judging others? isn’t that also a moral obligation.

What AJ talks about, helping solve the Iraqi refugee problem, is not a zero sum situation. It’s a win win situation. The displaced Iraqis get help, while the US will win the war on terror in the long run. The money used to help resettle the displaced, is only a fraction of what is spent on the war everyday. It’s not like she is robbing the US public and donating it to the Iraqis. Reading comprehension is crucial here.

I will never suggest what a poster should post or how they should think. If you think Angie chickened out on meeting x that is your opinion and I am fine with that. Peace

It is an honour to be your fan Angelina Jolie. I agree with your opinions about those issues.. Clever woman

mmmjustsaayin @ 02/28/2008 at 4:04 pm
BUT SHE STILL CHICKENED OUT OF MEETING X….bwahaha all show and NO GO!!!

When you are drafting an editorial on Washington Post, taking care of your 4 kids AND being PREGNANT, do you seriously think meeting with some TV actress would even cross Angelina’s mind?

COWARDS! After bombing IRAQ, you just run. No wonder you have lost the respect of the world.

How many YEARS has the US been in occupying IRAQ now?

it’s 177 mill a DAY, it’s not cowardly but common sense. END THE OCCUPATION.

Let the psuedo diplomats fork over the money and lives. Send Maddox to Iraq then.

Could you please not use such bad language? You are making us look bad. Try arguing your point with facts and not foul ranting.

BUT SHE STILL CHICKENED OUT OF MEETING X….bwahaha all show and NO GO!!!

Chickened out? HARDLY. She was too busy WRITING AN ARTICLE FOR THE WASHINGTON POST to waste her time on such trivial matters, you idiot. But of course someone like you would actually be stupid enough to think that even a meeting did occur that it would happen at a Red Carpet event or be more important than writing news article. Now go back to the little kids corner where you clearly belong, sit down, and shut up.

shut up, you don’t even know what the hell you’re talking about .

addie #212 thank you!!!
