OlderRush Limbaugh Praises Angelina Jolie
Republican bullhorn Rush Limbaugh praised Angelina Jolie yesterday on his radio show, saying she makes more sense than the Democrats when it comes down to the issue of Iraq.
Here’s what Rush, 57, had to say about Angie:
“Everybody today is raving about a piece in the Washington Post by Angelina Jolie in which she just got back from Iraq. She says, ‘We have finally reached a point where humanitarian assistance, from us and others, can have an impact.’ Her point is to stay, help the Iraqis, especially those who are out of the country, want to come back home, the time is right now, and that the surge is working. Now, if you read the piece by Angelina Jolie today in the Washington Post, you will conclude that she is deeper and in ways more specific than Obama about this if you read the whole article. She makes more sense than Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama or anybody on the Democrat side about this. It’s stunning. I’ve had some people, ‘Rush, you realize, she didn’t write it.’ I don’t know that she didn’t write it. I’m not going to assume she didn’t write it… That’s another thing, that’s a good point, too, it’s pretty brave of her to do this, given Hollywood and so forth. But she’s big enough to withstand it, and it sort of makes me appreciate this Brad Pitt guy a little more. He’s gone after substance here, is all I’m saying. This really is a good piece.”

This thread is so useless…..let’s just all agree with one thing about what was said…..our Angie is MAGNIFICENT!!! She’s a very intelligent woman, and will act on what she is committed to.

The world is paying attention and reading angies article, and that’s exactly was her purpose-to bring attention to the problem. What is the point of authoring high minded op/ed piece that no one will read much less understand? It is not dumbing down the message, it’s called knowing your audience. Angies fan base comes from different background, so the message was tailored so everyone can understand it including the high minded people-it got your attention, didn’t it?,
Look, even with this simple but well written article, the haters are already having comprehension problems, can you imagine if Angie throws in pies (not food) chart, graphs, Iraq’s gdp, per capita income, pollution number, ratios, ect, ect. Got my drift? NO? Oh well!
see, here’s the thing - if they really just wanted to APPEAR concerned and like they are doing something, they could have just had her show up with cameras and then schlubbed her off on some mid-level military and political officials. That’s all they would have had to do. But instead she was invited to meet with General Petraus and the leader of Iraq, and sit in on some of the meetings.

Um, no they couldn’t of. If a star like Angelina is sent to these places they have to make it credible. If they pawn her off on hangers on then it’s clear they can’t even be bothered faking interest in Iraqi refugees and that this is 100% about a bit good press and a lot if deflection. If she speaks to the highest on the food chain then a little of their credibility rubs off on her and when reporters ask what’s been done in a few months they have the records to show they are talking to the right people.
This is their major effort at the moment. Sending Angelina is biggest thing the government has done for refugees recently (and I believe the only thing they will do in the near future). They have to do it right in order to get away with doing nothing.

First of all, THE WORLD is isn’t reading Angelina’s article. She hasn’t got that much reach.
I did not say a scholar would reach more people but that they would reach the right people. It doesn’t matter how many people know about an issue, it matters how many people act. So many people know about Sudan since George Clooney started talking it up, but all that’s done is make it a highly talked about crisis. Nothing substantial has been done and all those people it’s reached dont seem to care much. At least not enough to actually do something.
BTW, do you really think anyone who reads The Washington Post would have trouble reading a scholars work? I think you are confusing The Post with Perez Hilton.

Here’s the thing. If they were taking it seriously this issue would have been sorted years ago. They would have had a plan for it before invading. It would have implemented throughout the occupancy. Instead they’re playing a little game of catch-up, getting some PR miles and making sure to leave the mess for the next administration, who’ll have bigger fish to fry for at least the first year.

What good is attention if it doesn’t lead to action.
It is not working. The UN is not about drawing attention the various crises, it’s about using that awareness and turning it into action. It doesn’t make a bit of difference how many people know about something if they do nothing about it. Those in a position to deal with these issues ie. the government are not acting, and the people are not making them. But don’t worry, I’m sure the Iraqi refugees will take heart in the fact that their plight has produced an article Rush Limbaugh has deemed worthy of praise.

I don’t dislike her at all. She is an excellent actress, she’s made some great films and I have no doubt she is trying to do good. I wouldn’t call myself a fan, but I have no distaste for her personally, just the state of affairs that leads to her being a voice for the UN.

If someone is “qualified” to speak about refugees is Angelina Jolie. She is been doing this for 7 years. She has been to more countries, spoke to more refugees and workers in the field, learn more… about the refugee situation in the world than anyone i know of.
Why do think than Collin Powell think highly of her and always takes the time to speak with her. Or why Condolisa Rise takes up her busy time to listen to her?
