Rush Limbaugh Praises Angelina Jolie

Angelina is taking the same stand about Iraq that she did about Darfur. There are human beings that have no home and are being harmed. They need our help. Please help them.

Just because some conservatives decide to embrace one and not the other does not effect or change what Angelina is asking for.

Her view is constance - all human beings matter. It’s others who change depending on religion, race, sex, and political view .

I don’t dislike her at all. She is an excellent actress, she’s made some great films and I have no doubt she is trying to do good. I wouldn’t call myself a fan, but I have no distaste for her personally, just the state of affairs that leads to her being a voice for the UN.

This is a celebrity blog and as fans of Angelina and Brad we come here from time to time to have a chat. It doesn’t mean we haven’t read other articles and followed other news about world events, including events around Iraq. We may not have discussed our opinions about Iraq till Angelina’s Washington Post Op-ed came out because in the past, debates on politics have gotten quite heated, and many, including myself, usually chose another forum to talk politics. But you will note, many of us have an opinion already formed or forming on iraq, just that we did not discuss it openly here.

What Angelina has done, in writing her op-ed, is to throw open the debate to a wider audience. You may decry the need for a mere actress to throw this debate open, but, while it is possible for some unknown person to be a lightning rod of discussions, more often than not, it is a celebrity or a high profile person who acts as such. Thus, millions of people may suffer parkinsons disease but Michael J Fox is the lightning rod around which discussions on stem cell research and Parkinson’s disease would be started. Christopher Reeves was another about paralysis and stem cells research. Nancy Reagan on research into alzheimers. Are they experts in stem cell research or bioethics (and there are many many issues involving bioethics in stem cell research) or even experts in the treatment of these diseases and conditions? Hell no. MJ Fox is merely a sufferer of the disease, same as millions of people around the world. Nancy Reagan is merely the wife of an alzheimers sufferer. What gives them the right to talk about stem cell research etc..

Ahhh, you might say, “but Michael J Fox is a sufferer of the disease and can legitimately be a lightning rod but Angelina isn’t a refugee and so shouldn’t have a voice?” I hope that’s not what you are saying. Angelina may not be a refugee but she is a caring human being who understands just how privilege her life is. She seeks to right some injustices – something we all should do in our own little way. Be it to stop bullying of a kid in the play ground (even if it isn’t our kid) or helping out a woman who is being abused, even if that woman isn’t a family member or a friend. And so from the little weedy kid to the frightened woman to the refugee in a camp, don’t we all have an obligation to speak up against an injustice and do something if it is within our circle of influence?

To me, its simple. Be grateful there are people who care enough to put in a lot of effort and a lot of passion into raising awareness of issues most of us, in our busy lives, concerned about our families, our jobs, would rather not have to think about. Should we select and use celebrities as lightning rods carefully?? Yes, absolutely. But having read angelina’s op-ed piece carefully (thanks to all the criticisms and comments), I believe it is a piece written by someone who is well informed and thoughtful.

People may or may not agree with it, but I think they should consider what she has to say seriously.

Great post Jose Rizal. You’ve nailed laydeda right on the head. I am proud to be Angelina’s fan and your post made me proud to be a filipino as well. There are lots of filipino bloggers here and most if not all of them are inteligent posters.

I think Jolie-Pitts are above political partisanship. Whoever it will be in power needs to solve today’s problems and in their mind, democrat or republican, or even together, we must solve problems. Here at JJ I think we both have Democrat and Republican fans and that is great. Rush Limbaugh is not significant nor he makes no influence. He is so tarnished whomever he could attach his name to, he will to get some headline. See he did here with Angie.

I have to say that before Brad and Angie got together, I was not really a fan of his.

Same here—I think I enjoyed many of his movies (espcially 12 Monkeys–it made me take notice “Who is this crazy actor??”). I also was aware of and enjoyed Angie’s movies (Tomb Raiders etc etc) but honestly I didn’t know anything about Billy Bob thing, those tabloid headlines about her at all. I learned all after Pitt/Aniston breakup LOL. Yes and now I am a fan of both, together, and individually. This is THE Hollywood couple of our time — like Bogart&Bacal, Gable&Lombard, Taylor&Burton. I really wish Hollywood will make moroe Jolie-Pitt movies for the years to come!

First of all, we don’t need Rush or anyone else for that matter to confirm that Angelina is a woman of substance because that is among the top reasons why we love and admire her so.

Second of all, Angelina is a citizen of the world, therefore she sees no borders, so i don’t believe she has any political affiliation nor is she making a political stance on her article.

To those who think she’s not qualified because all she does is bring awareness to the problem, well, PEOPLE….anyone knows that ONE CAN’T SOLVE ANYTHING IF ONE CANNOT ADMIT OR IS NOT AWARE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM TO BEGIN WITH.

Qualified or not, Angelina has done mightily on her own with the help of the UNHCR……now to all all the qualified peeps, will you please step up and do your part?
