Rush Limbaugh Praises Angelina Jolie

Rush Limbaugh Praises Angelina Jolie

Republican bullhorn Rush Limbaugh praised Angelina Jolie yesterday on his radio show, saying she makes more sense than the Democrats when it comes down to the issue of Iraq.

Here’s what Rush, 57, had to say about Angie:

“Everybody today is raving about a piece in the Washington Post by Angelina Jolie in which she just got back from Iraq. She says, ‘We have finally reached a point where humanitarian assistance, from us and others, can have an impact.’ Her point is to stay, help the Iraqis, especially those who are out of the country, want to come back home, the time is right now, and that the surge is working. Now, if you read the piece by Angelina Jolie today in the Washington Post, you will conclude that she is deeper and in ways more specific than Obama about this if you read the whole article. She makes more sense than Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama or anybody on the Democrat side about this. It’s stunning. I’ve had some people, ‘Rush, you realize, she didn’t write it.’ I don’t know that she didn’t write it. I’m not going to assume she didn’t write it… That’s another thing, that’s a good point, too, it’s pretty brave of her to do this, given Hollywood and so forth. But she’s big enough to withstand it, and it sort of makes me appreciate this Brad Pitt guy a little more. He’s gone after substance here, is all I’m saying. This really is a good piece.”

Is Angelina a Republican?

I think she is just a concerned American, a citizen of the world (who knows no borders) and a woman of substance.

I wonder if Clint Eastwood was the one who made her a Republican. Not that being a republican is bad you know.. FREDOM OF SPEECH.

Clint is a very active and very vocal Republican, like Charlon Henston. At least now, we know she’s voting for Mccain

+++++++++++++++

Oh yeah…I meant add…

Angie’s sperm donor of a father is a very vocal Republican, too. But we all know he has ZERO influence over her…so I doubt Clint had much influence over her political views either.

Angie said that she and Brad fight a lot over politics. Brad told Larry King that Angie was a woman with very definite ideas and opinons. Obviously this is one of them.

I never thought I would agree with RL one day (never say never again), but it is a very nice op-ed Angelina wrote. Whether she wrote it like it is word by word or not, it doesn’t matter. The spirit of the article is hers, and that’s all that matters. A woman of substance. Wow, it relegates all the tabloid gossips faraway in the background.
BTW, I am sure if you ask Obama, Clinton, or McCain, they all agree with her view on the matter of Iraqi refugees.

(Well done AJ on your Washington Op Piece. Mainstream media is always behind on news that matter. They are still covering Britneys, Paris and other sensational/Tabloid news. ABC news come to mind and their shameless “hatchet” job on AJ. Thank goodness some people are listening and reading the Washington Post OP. )

Thelma Drake wants Angelina Jolie to testify on Iraq

BY DAVID LERMAN | 202-824-8224

WASHINGTON - Virginia Rep. Thelma Drake has a new idea to maintain congressional support for the war in Iraq: Call in Angelina Jolie.

The movie star - half of the “Brangelina” power couple that rules Hollywood - recently returned from Iraq in her role as a United Nations goodwill ambassador.

In an op-ed piece for the Washington Post, Jolie called for increased humanitarian support to help Iraqi refugees and said last year’s surge of troops appears to be working.

Drake, a Norfolk Republican, is pushing to get Jolie to testify to the House Armed Services Committee.

“Sadly, Ms. Jolie’s positive perspective on the current security situation in Iraq has gone largely unnoticed by the mainstream press,” Drake wrote in a letter to Rep. Ike Skelton, D-Mo., the committee chairman.

“Ms. Jolie’s experience as a U.N. goodwill ambassador has given her the opportunity to travel to Iraq, speak with our military leadership and gain a ground-view understanding of how our long-term strategic objectives in Iraq and the region are met,” Drake said.

“As co-chair of the Human Trafficking Caucus, I too share Ms. Jolie’s concerns about the humanitarian aspects of the conflict in Iraq and the well-being of the refugees in neighboring countries.”

Drake added, “I believe the membership of our committee would gain crucial insight into another important aspect of the conflict from Ms. Jolie’s testimony.”

Asking celebrities to testify before Congress is hardly unusual. Many Hollywood figures routinely parade themselves before various committees in pursuit of funding for pet projects or to promote myriad causes.

MIchael J. Fox has lobbied for funding for Parkinson’s disease research and for funding embryonic stem cell research. Everyone from Mary Tyler Moore to Bonnie Raitt and Martin Sheen have made the rounds.

While few celebrities offer any real expertise on policy matters, lawmakers know that the very presence of Hollywood stars will attract hoards of media attention for whatever cause they are pushing.

Jolie, of course, can attract television cameras from around the globe

wow today was “republicans loves jolie” day, who’s next? Mccain himself?

I think the stance that Angelina is taking is a good one. It is a well reasoned take on this. It’s interesting how the far left are the ones who will take issues with something that makes a lot of senses. It is sort of interesting that Brad is now filming a movie with someone who tends to be on the very far left( Penn). I wonder if he has seen what Angelina wrote. Though I think Angelina position is one that many people could accept. I also think when reading some of the comments at the Washington Post that some of the radical left wingers are guilty of taking Angelina comments out of context. Yes the ones on the right are going to comment about Angelina wanting the Troops to stay in Iraq, but I have seen most so far acknoledge that it is for humatarian reasons.

Woman of substance @ 02/29/2008 at 11:00 pm

Brad Pitt went for
Sustance over fluff
Intelligent over Unintelligent
Sincere over Affected
Selfless over self-centered
Aware over Ignorant
Unpretentious over pretentious

Well Done Mr. Pitt.

I think Brad and Angelina are both blessed to have each other.

I smell Clint Eastwood influence here. Angelina used to be VERY neutral but with this OP she’s supporting Mccain very openly.

Eastwood is a well known republican in Hollywood, old school republican, me thinks that both of them must had long talks about world issues and maybe she started to get the republican point of view, outside the Bush fiasco.

Good for her, while I don’t agree with her ideas, I respect them.

Angie is the best @ 02/29/2008 at 11:04 pm

Just love her, she is fearless in expressing her opinions. All she is asking is that people do the right thing, if you destroy a country, you have an obligation to rebuid it.

7Anne @ 02/29/2008 at 10:08 pm #4

orange clockwork - YOu are more the idiot if you don’t think she wrote the Op-ed. She has more intelligence than most average “celebrity”.
——-
Exactly! AJ is the one who went to Iraq, twice. She is the one who made notes and came back with her personal impressions.
This is HER article, containing HER thoughts, and anyone from either party can agree or disagree.
Even if she got help writing it, if that is the case, so what? Presidents have other people writing their speeches for them.

AJ is learning all the time and getting better all the time. This article doesn’t make her a republican. I think she is, and in her case, should be, an independent, because people in her position have to work with both sides.

# 39 Tiger @ 02/29/2008 at 10:50 pm

I agree with Rush on this. It took guts for her to write this, or even if she didn’t “write it” she signed her name to it. Considering the liberal views of Hollywood it took a lot of guts on her part.

In saying the troops should stay in Iraq, it is as much as supporting the Republican Party. I don’t believe it is meant to be taken politically, but seriously, they will use it as such without a seond thought. Surely she knew this when she wrote it. Takes guts with the world she surrounds herself with.

Good for her for standing for the people disreguarding the politics of it. That shows great substance. Not to mention encouraging the public that our troops have made a difference being there That people could return to their homes and feel safe. If our troops being there succeeds at that, i would say it is a war we are winning.

++++++++++++++++

I agree that it took guts for Angie to say the troops should stay, but that’s all I agree with. In no way does that make her a Republican, though, because she’s NOT saying the troops should stay FOR THE SAME REASONS THE REPUBLICANS GIVE.

Angie is saying the troops need to be there to help facilitate humanitarian efforts. That’s all. She’s not advocating, as the Republicans are, that the troops need to be there to solidify the government and strong arm the masses to keep them in line.

Don’t lump Angie in with the Republicans just because she thinks the troops should stay. People are reading that far and don’t continue to read the reasons she gives for WHY we need to stay. Nowhere in her piece does she say we need to be there to rule the country because the Iraqis are incompetent or that we need to be there to make sure they do what WE want them to do as far as democracy is concerned, which is what the Republicans want. They want the troops to say as a show of force to keep the Iraqi government in line. So please stop putting words into Angie’s mouth and aligning her with the Republicans because that’s not what she said at all.

I’m Republican though I don’t really get Rush…. I guess you could say I’m a liberal republican. People who expect a handout are sadly mistaken…life isn;t fair. You should work for what you want. Angelina amazes me. I adore her and support her 100%.

Ugh, Rush Limbaugh. This is the man that said he would support Obama if McCain got the nomination. Here is someone that lacks substance completely.
She probably did write it because she seems to have completely overlooked the important point here…yes Angie there is a humanitarian issue in Iraq and guess what?!? WE CAUSED MOST OF IT! Our occupation brought insurgents into Iraqi and created more strife for these people. We aren’t completely to blame because there is one major issue that the conservatives have completely failed recognize and that is that the Sunnis and the Shiites hate each, really really hate each other. They have never lived peacefully and they never were meant to. Iraq was a British creation. They never will live peacefully. I’m not saying that we should abandon them, we jumped into their mess and made it worse, but I think the Bushies need to realize that we cannot solve their problems and acting like we can and we know better, is only making it worse.

Orange Clockwork @ 02/29/2008 at 11:06 pm

People on this site are so blind-sighted and deluded, it’s not even funny. It’s actually pretty sad.

You don’t know a dam* thing. Angie has said that she does not take a political position as she has to work with all types of people in her efforts to help those who are without.

Eastwood is more of an Libertarian/Independent. Though I do think he was leaning towards Mc Cain when I heard him be interviewed on Fox about a month ago. Angelina is a smart woman. I think she does not need someone else to help her make her own decision. I don’t really think this OPed gives major clues as to who she will vote for. I think she wrote a unpolitical Oped about something that is tied to something that has been politicised.

I don’t agree that the troops should stay. Hillary and Obama will help the humanitarian crisis but will put out the troop very quicky.

angie doesn't agree with OBAMA @ 02/29/2008 at 11:12 pm

Bringing Our Troops Home
Obama will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. He will remove one to two combat brigades each month, and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months. Obama will make it clear that we will not build any permanent bases in Iraq. He will keep some troops in Iraq to protect our embassy and diplomats; if al Qaeda attempts to build a base within Iraq, he will keep troops in Iraq or elsewhere in the region to carry out targeted strikes on al Qaeda

Humanitarian Initiative
Obama believes that America has a moral and security responsibility to confront Iraq’s humanitarian crisis — two million Iraqis are refugees; two million more are displaced inside their own country. Obama will form an international working group to address this crisis. He will provide at least $2 billion to expand services to Iraqi refugees in neighboring countries, and ensure that Iraqis inside their own country can find a safe-haven.

I am just amazed at the number of people who have reading comprehension problems. Please point out for me where it is in Angie’s OpEd that she states she supports the troops staying for the same reasons the Republicans want them to stay! Good luck with your search, because that’s NOT what she said. She states a very clear reason for them to stay - to facilitate humanitarian efforts. Unfortunately you, Rush and everbody else seems to have stopped reading at “the troops should stay…” Go read the rest and get a return bus ticket back to reality.

angie doesn't agree with HILLA @ 02/29/2008 at 11:14 pm

Starting Phased Redeployment within Hillary’s First Days in Office: The most important part of Hillary’s plan is the first: to end our military engagement in Iraq’s civil war and immediately start bringing our troops home. As president, one of Hillary’s first official actions would be to convene the Joint Chiefs of Staff, her Secretary of Defense, and her National Security Council. She would direct them to draw up a clear, viable plan to bring our troops home starting with the first 60 days of her Administration. She would also direct the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs to prepare a comprehensive plan to provide the highest quality health care and benefits to every service member — including every member of the National Guard and Reserves — and their families.

Securing Stability in Iraq as we Bring our Troops Home. As president, Hillary would focus American aid efforts during our redeployment on stabilizing Iraq, not propping up the Iraqi government. She would direct aid to the entities — whether governmental or non-governmental — most likely to get it into the hands of the Iraqi people. She would also support the appointment of a high level U.N. representative — similar to those appointed in Afghanistan, Bosnia, and Kosovo — to help broker peace among the parties in Iraq.

As our forces redeploy out of Iraq, Hillary would also organize a multi-billion dollar international effort — funded by a wide range of donor states — under the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to address the needs of Iraqi refugees. And as we replace military force with diplomacy and global leadership, Hillary will not lose sight of our very real strategic interests in the region. She would devote the resources we need to fight terrorism and will order specialized units to engage in narrow and targeted operations against al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations in the region.
