Rush Limbaugh Praises Angelina Jolie

Republican bullhorn Rush Limbaugh praised Angelina Jolie yesterday on his radio show, saying she makes more sense than the Democrats when it comes down to the issue of Iraq.

Here’s what Rush, 57, had to say about Angie:

“Everybody today is raving about a piece in the Washington Post by Angelina Jolie in which she just got back from Iraq. She says, ‘We have finally reached a point where humanitarian assistance, from us and others, can have an impact.’ Her point is to stay, help the Iraqis, especially those who are out of the country, want to come back home, the time is right now, and that the surge is working. Now, if you read the piece by Angelina Jolie today in the Washington Post, you will conclude that she is deeper and in ways more specific than Obama about this if you read the whole article. She makes more sense than Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama or anybody on the Democrat side about this. It’s stunning. I’ve had some people, ‘Rush, you realize, she didn’t write it.’ I don’t know that she didn’t write it. I’m not going to assume she didn’t write it… That’s another thing, that’s a good point, too, it’s pretty brave of her to do this, given Hollywood and so forth. But she’s big enough to withstand it, and it sort of makes me appreciate this Brad Pitt guy a little more. He’s gone after substance here, is all I’m saying. This really is a good piece.”

Good for her, while I don’t agree with her ideas, I respect them.
+++++++++++++++++++++++

So you do not agree helping innocent Iraq refugees who were victims of an unjustified war?

___________________________________________
I don’t agree that the troops should stay. Hillary and Obama will help the humanitarian crisis but will put out the troop very quicky.

———————–
What you are saying is basically
You can invade other country and cause mess-up and can leave there as everything got out of your hand.
Where is your taking responsibility of Bush’s mistake ?

I knew many Republican who had supported Bush’s attack are now saying same thing as you without feeling their responsibility.
Without fixing Iraq US should not lave.

Sudan was not invaded by the US, but the US is totally responsible for the invasion of, and subsequent fighting in and destruction of Iraq, so the US is totally responsible to solve the Iraq crisis, including the plight of the refugees.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I totally agree. And the US should SOLELY be financially responsible to reconstruct IRAQ and help the refugees. The US did not hesitate to pour trillions of dollars to bombed IRAQ resulting in deaths, destruction and a humanitarian crisis. I would call it cowardice if the US shirks from the responsibility of righting the wrongs it has done through an unjustified war.

The US painstakingly rebuilt Japan and Germany, which were considered the war aggressors. It will surely baffle the mind, if the US chooses to abandon a country which was unjustifiably maimed and brutalized.

guli @ 02/29/2008 at 11:16 pm ITA with that wonderful article in WP by Angie.
See, some of you are missing the point that what she wrote was completely non-political!!!!
She wasn’t talking about why or if we should have gone to war in Iraq….She was talking about the fact that there are millions of refugees in Iraq and neighboring countries and many of them are kids and they need help! We owe it to these innocent people to …well as Brad would say it “Make It Right”…..

I agree with you Guli, some seem to be missing the point - her article is not political - it is totally about what we as human beings need to do to help fix what we “broke”. To use your reference “We need to Make it Right !

I really hate Rush Limbaugh…but as a Democrat myself, I am in agreement with Angie op-ed. To me, what Angie is talking about is the political realities of the war. We can’t just pull out, even Democrats understand this. The pulling out theory makes for great political speeches and all, but the reality is very much different. Make no mistake, Clinton and Obama are aware of this and would agree with Angie. I believe what the Democrats want is a timetable of when we are going to pull out but not 100 years like McCain states. After all this is not a supposed to be “an occupation.” We had no business going there in the first place but since we are there we have to fix the problems we caused. That is what she is saying period. To me, there is no political alliance in her article just the realities of this terrible war.

Even Clinton and Obama acknowledge that some troops will stay in Iraq for humanitarian missions for a short time. The US invaded this country because the Bush neocoms who wanted a war found one. The US has a moral obligation to help right a wrong or else the US and the World will pay for it in violence for many years to come. The US invasion took a country that had the most highly educated group of women in the Mideast and has now induced mass chaos and disorder. The US must do what it can to undo the damage done. That is Angelina’s nonpolitical message (neither democratic or republican), she raised a moral issue that people need to listen to and the US government needs to respond to. If not look no further than the Israel-Palestine conflict for our violent future to be.

—————————————————————-

That’s what I’m saying Obama and Hillary think is more than enough that the troops stay a short time and then they will bring them back, while angelina thinks they should stay till the refugees are able to have a “normal” life.

You really think that in a short time 4 million refugees will have a “normal” life? Umm, no. This will take mid term, at least 5 years.

Neither Obama and Hillary are taking that chance, they are thinking to give billions and form an international force to help with the process WITH NO NEED OF AMERICANS TROOPS.

Love Angie, but Rush L is a pill popping, racist ass*hole.

Angie is staying neutral because she is practical, she needs Republican and Democrat votes when she is backing up bills with regard to her humanitarian works passed in the house.

I think thats why Brad is now not that vocal as a democrat, they just want to stay neutral, what stays precedent is how they can help those that need help through their own humanitarian and charity causes. and they need support from everyone.

Humanitarian Initiative
Obama believes that America has a moral and security responsibility to confront Iraq’s humanitarian crisis — two million Iraqis are refugees; two million more are displaced inside their own country. Obama will form an international working group to address this crisis. He will provide at least $2 billion to expand services to Iraqi refugees in neighboring countries, and ensure that Iraqis inside their own country can find a safe-haven.

As our forces redeploy out of Iraq, Hillary would also organize a multi-billion dollar international effort — funded by a wide range of donor states — under the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to address the needs of Iraqi refugees. And as we replace military force with diplomacy and global leadership, Hillary will not lose sight of our very real strategic interests in the region. She would devote the resources we need to fight terrorism and will order specialized units to engage in narrow and targeted operations against al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations in the region.

Well, after reading this, angelina doesn’t agree with neither of the democratic candidates. Both are on the same page that helping the refugees will be handle by a international force, not american soldiers (like angelina wants)

Cowardice at its highest. So, I guess you want to provide the money but not the lives?

Which country on earth would contribute troops to an international force who will risk their lives at the behest of the main offender and war aggressor who stays cowardly stays home.

Of course she wrote it. that guy i s an assclown!

Money cannot buy peace.

International force is wanting to retreat from the country.
US should remember what international opinion was when they decided to support Bush. They are reluctant to help arrogant US which violated International law.

Yes, some people are so naive.
They cannot read between lines.
Ritzy has her trick.
She is very active now.

Don’t forget, Angelina works with the UN, an international organization (you don’t get any more international than that) and with a lot of the NGOs (she mentioned them in the op-ed). What make you think she wants just the American troops to stay in Iraq to help, an no other international organizations?

28 Sunny @ 02/29/2008 at 10:39 pm Strange, strange Iraq war supporting bedfellows….

Rush is a drug abusing blowhard.. Angelina is a … movie actress. Both have fallen for the Bush war party line.

Yes, by all means… let’s stay in Iraq and get thousands more of our fine young soldiers killed… and thousands more Iraqi civilians. That’s a humanitarian stance. NOT
——-
Sunny, read her article, posted by ha ha ha (#16).
Nowhere in AJ’s article does she say anything about continuing the war. Her business is refugees and it’s her view that the troops can/should assist the Iraqi government and the UNHCR in helping the Iraqi refugees come back and resettle in their country.

yeah, I agree, RL is using that op/ed to jab at Dems. this is a nonpolitical piece.

Hey, yesterday I was “post & run”. Did not have time to say hi or thank JJ for the thread. Been busy. Working tonight?

OT From my previous posts on the last thread)

Star Seeking
Rep. Thelma Drake, R-Va., says members of the House Armed Services Committee could learn something about Iraq from actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie.

In a letter to committee chairman Rep. Ike Skelton, D-Mo., Drake asked that Jolie, a U.N. goodwill ambassador, be invited to testify on the status of millions of refugees in Iraq and its neighboring countries.

“I believe the membership of our committee would gain crucial insight into another important aspect of the conflict from Ms. Jolie’s testimony,” Drake wrote, saying the committee could benefit from “differing perspectives on Iraq.”

http://www.mgwashington.com/index.php/news/article/virginians-at-the-capitol4/641/

I knew the wingnut blowhards would take her plea for humanitarian aid and try to snow their unwashed ignorant rethuglican masses into think their ’side’ is right…bottomline regarding the ’surge’: Angelina hasn’t said anything Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton haven’t also said about the surge first. The repubs are just trying to use her.

…and here’s another UGH moment…tonight on showbiz tonight cnn…they had a segment on ‘painful celeb breakups’ why they hurt us too..of course they covered maniston and brad…along with ryan and reese and jessica and nick….they had tomika whatserface and that intouch ugly tran carolina bermudez…basically aj said its been 3 years people can’t get over it..tomeka talked about the team thing..the fact that they were seen as a ‘barbie and ken’ of HW..(more like ken and a troll doll..lolol)…called her rachel green……and of course the intouch hag…eagerly piped up about how maniston was revered in hollywood (bahahaha) and referred to aj as a ‘homewrecker.’ Hey b*tch you have to have a home to get it ‘wrecked’…they didn’t and everyone in HW knew they had been separated for 6 and 9 mos. at a time, he was in hotels, they were both giving interviews talking like they were toast, all PRE before Angie. lol all in all a silly segment. But the point of it was…anyone who isn’t over it, is the one with the problem.
