OlderRush Limbaugh Praises Angelina Jolie
Republican bullhorn Rush Limbaugh praised Angelina Jolie yesterday on his radio show, saying she makes more sense than the Democrats when it comes down to the issue of Iraq.
Here’s what Rush, 57, had to say about Angie:
“Everybody today is raving about a piece in the Washington Post by Angelina Jolie in which she just got back from Iraq. She says, ‘We have finally reached a point where humanitarian assistance, from us and others, can have an impact.’ Her point is to stay, help the Iraqis, especially those who are out of the country, want to come back home, the time is right now, and that the surge is working. Now, if you read the piece by Angelina Jolie today in the Washington Post, you will conclude that she is deeper and in ways more specific than Obama about this if you read the whole article. She makes more sense than Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama or anybody on the Democrat side about this. It’s stunning. I’ve had some people, ‘Rush, you realize, she didn’t write it.’ I don’t know that she didn’t write it. I’m not going to assume she didn’t write it… That’s another thing, that’s a good point, too, it’s pretty brave of her to do this, given Hollywood and so forth. But she’s big enough to withstand it, and it sort of makes me appreciate this Brad Pitt guy a little more. He’s gone after substance here, is all I’m saying. This really is a good piece.”

I have had my radio tuned in to Rush Limbaugh’s program Monday thru Friday even when I can’t even listen to what he is saying all the time. The radio is on all the while he’s on. So how the heck did I miss this? Would have loved to hear him praise our Angie and her Brad. Was it on today’s broadcast?
Don’t knock his influence with the so-called minivan majority. It’s about time some of them hear not only the negatives but the positives about Angie. Libs might not trust him nor like him but a lot of conservatives do (like me).

OMG - When I read that post the first time I was like “what a complete moron - why would any modern woman think like that” I can’t believe it.
I almost missed your post because I decided to check Brad’s after Cliniqua’s suggestion. I came back here to tell you I was moving over there.

Interesting comments both good and bad. Fact is too many Americans forget that the majority of their fellow citizens are neither Dems or Repubs. Most people are uncomfortable about things like abortion but don’t like intrusive laws robbing women the rights over their bodies. Most people think their should be a strong social safety net but want their government to be fiscally responsible and definitely not our big brother. In other word most people want a government that doe’s the right thing and doesnt live or die by some ideology. Most sensible people want our governments to be responsible and humane. I believe that is what Angie is asking for.

#79: Don’t put words in Angie’s mouth. She wants to help the refugees and they can’t be helped without military assistance. It doesn’t mean she’s voting for McCain. If the troops are pulled out right away, you can be sure there will be a genocide. That is what she is agreeing with the Republicans with.
Hillary knows enough not to pull them all out at once but Obama does not. I really would like either one of them to win. They can put their money where their mouths are and they can show just how much of a leader they are. I am a Republican but I don’t want a Republican to win this time. Let’s see how the Democrats handle all that’s going to come forth from Iran, China, Russia, etc. Maybe they can talk everybody into being nice to each other so everybody will love everybody now. No more wars, just talk and peace and love……

Agreed. I don’t think she goes for labels. She’s absolutely right that we have an obligation to clean up the mess WE made; we can’t just cut and run and let the Iraqis deal with it, and God knows I am no Republican. What sickens me is this racist sack of sh*t Limbaugh making political capital off Angelina. The guy isn’t fit to empty out her trash can.

As for Angie’s skills as a writer. I can’t imagine why anyone would question her authorship. It’s a fairly simple, straightforward written piece. It’s not exactly a doctoral thesis. It’s clear and concise and uncomplicated.
And everything published in the Washington Post or the NY Times etc is edited by an editor. Even Hemingway would get edited.
Oh, and she doesn’t write the title. The Post has a whole staff that write all the headlines - even for entertainment pieces.
The internet comments by readers in the Post were 10 pages long. Except for TWO obvious FFers spouting their same old tired crap & making fools of themselves with their conspiracy theories and other FF nonsense - almost every reader praised her - even if they didn’t completely agree with her.
#84: Andromeda, Rush is anathema to the libs. Only conservatives like him and most who are moderates don’t. But he is well respected because he is smart and very eloquent. He has great influence on a lot of people except for the liberals who hate him with a passion.

Angelina Jolie has been in enough poverty-stricken parts of the world to understand the blessings that Americans enjoy. Most Americans have never come anywhere near the suffering and torment that war-affected Iraqis have experienced. Angie also knows that policies can’t be enforced by goodwill and diplomacy alone. There has to be power and might behind it. Somebody has to enforce a policy. That’s why the military is in place in Iraq.
Angelina Jolie could never have walked into Iraq without the protection of the US Armed Forces. But once there, she was able to show her compassion and provide some relief and hope for the Iraqis. God Bless Angelina Jolie and the US Armed Forces.

Angelina has never shown me to be anything but articulate. Her writing is that and most times all that good writing has to be is articulate. In fact I would say from all that I have ever read from her is that prose and poetry are the least of her concerns when writing.

I was just at the AJ’s op-ed WP website. There are 22 pages of comments, not 10. You see the total # when you hit “last page”. AJ sure brings awareness where ever she goes.
I’m impressed Rush took the time to review her article and got the positive message out of it.
I used to hate Rush Limbaugh without listening to his show, because I thought he was an ass.
Well, he is ass. He’s also very, very astute at interpreting political actions in this country. Love him or loathe him, he picks up on things most people miss and that is what drives politicians nuts - not much slips by him. One day I was on a road trip and all I could pick up was talk radio on AM, and I had no idea I was listening to Rush. I don’t remember the topic but I remember thinking the guy talking was so dead on and wondering why no one else would put things so plainly.
I’ve kept tuning in ever since. I don’t always agree with Rush, but he is always interesting and more often than not, he’s politically psychic.
So . . Rush is no fan of Hollywood types who bluster about politics without putting themselves out there in any real position, so the compliment to Angelina Jolie (and Brad Pitt) are genuine.

Cliniqua, I saw the promo for Showbiz Tonight and said that I wouldn’t watch it. I went into the kitchen to wash dishes turned on the tv, and it was on the station and AJ Hammer was announcing it. I watched it. Then I became angry with myself for having done so. The b*tch from Outta Touch couldn’t wait to try and smear Angie. There was just too much good being said about her today. Every entertainment show was talking about her article. And the comments were all good. Angie has written articles before that have been well received. But this one by it’s title, which was asked about in an article posted on another thread, was sure to provoke discussion. And IMHO I am sure that is what she wanted to do. Generate conversation. Get people thinking about the lives that have been displaced. The children without homes or security. These are the invisible people of this war. The thousands of faceless, homeless men, women and children who no one knows exist or care about . The numbers are staggering. She has brought them out of the darkness and made them visible. Now if you didn’t know, you know now. She didn’t point her finger at anyone, or any party. She didn’t assign blame. She didn’t praise one party over another. What she did was say as a result of these actions, the war, we have this problem and we need to fix it for humanitarian reasons. And here are the reasons why. Because it is the moral thing to do. They right thing to do. Because if we don’t we will have bigger and greater problems in the future. If you know what you are talking about, and she does, it is easy to express it. Angie is considered to be one of the best communicators around. To suggest that she didn’t write her article is to be dismissive. So what if she didn’t write it? Does that make it any less true? She might have had someone help her edit it for syntax, punctuation and spelling. That is intelligent. But the thoughts, the vision, the reasons are her’s.
RL is an opportunistic pill popping fat man who has lost some of his shine and is trying to attach himself to someone who is of substance. His word. But I do agree with him. Angie is not a fool. She has very good advisors. She might get some hits. But as he said she will be able to handle them. I am so proud of her. When so many people choose what is easy and comfortable, Angie keeps pushing herself and us also. She and Brad are prone to take that road less traveled. But what is remarkable about traveling that road is they bring us along with them. The fans, the haters, the RL’s and O’Rielys, the tabs, the entertainment shows, everyone who reads what she writes, or listen to what she says is traveling right along with them. Some might be shuffling along trying not to follow. But they do. If only because their hatred is so strong and they feel that this time she has gone to far and will surely will fail. But she doesn’t. She incites learning and dicussion and everyone is thinking and talking about refugees in Iraq. Eventually the doubters will realize that resisting is futile. And they will have to give it up. Peace
