Rush Limbaugh Praises Angelina Jolie
Republican bullhorn Rush Limbaugh praised Angelina Jolie yesterday on his radio show, saying she makes more sense than the Democrats when it comes down to the issue of Iraq.
Here’s what Rush, 57, had to say about Angie:
“Everybody today is raving about a piece in the Washington Post by Angelina Jolie in which she just got back from Iraq. She says, ‘We have finally reached a point where humanitarian assistance, from us and others, can have an impact.’ Her point is to stay, help the Iraqis, especially those who are out of the country, want to come back home, the time is right now, and that the surge is working. Now, if you read the piece by Angelina Jolie today in the Washington Post, you will conclude that she is deeper and in ways more specific than Obama about this if you read the whole article. She makes more sense than Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama or anybody on the Democrat side about this. It’s stunning. I’ve had some people, ‘Rush, you realize, she didn’t write it.’ I don’t know that she didn’t write it. I’m not going to assume she didn’t write it… That’s another thing, that’s a good point, too, it’s pretty brave of her to do this, given Hollywood and so forth. But she’s big enough to withstand it, and it sort of makes me appreciate this Brad Pitt guy a little more. He’s gone after substance here, is all I’m saying. This really is a good piece.”

ITA - a very eloquent post, you are dead on with your assessment of Angie and RL.
Goodnight all - early morning stuff with my own family. Hopefully new pix of my other favorite family tomorrow.
@ 02/29/2008 at 10:32 pm I love that important people (like it or not; Rush has a huge following) notice how intelligent Angelina is!! Angelina is Extraordinary and she cares about things that matters and NOT in shallow things like other celebrities!! No one can compare to Angelina!!
And i especially love this quote from Rush about Brad… “he gone AFTER SUBSTANCE HERE”, YES!! Angelina has SUBTANCE and that cannot be said about Brad’s previous woman’s!!
#180 TRT-thanks. i will try to ask NLAL . there’s a rally here too, to coincide with the rally in PI. Ang gulo talaga ng ‘Pinas.

Let me know how your sleuthing goes
Too bad they don’t take a trip far, far away.
#175: thank you, ace tomato. At least somebody here was able to say something nice about Rush for a change. I love that guy…he’s funny and real sharp. He’d have nailed Angie to the wall if he’d thought she was a phony.
Hey guys!!
It’s really me.
I have an op-ed of a less earth-shattering matter: the Malibumom controversy. I posted it on the thread where it was mostly discussed so as to not distract from the current topic. My intent isn’t to drag out or reignite a settled debate (though I know those disputes are never really done), so please leave my message on that thread and not copy it to this thread. I’ll make it easier for anyone interested in reading by providing a link.

I also have a few words for friends and allies there.
Take care.
Hey dianad1968…here’s the punchline to the joke we’re referring to earlier.

He’s gone after substance hereand left behind there the one with the substance problem …
(I know, the joke’s lame…keeping my day job y’all).

Angelina has never shown me to be anything but articulate. Her writing is that and most times all that good writing has to be is articulate. In fact I would say from all that I have ever read from her is that prose and poetry are the least of her concerns when writing.
============================
I completely agree. She is always well spoken.
#184: TLOL, where are you at? Why can’t these people understand that rallies are not going to do it? It only disrupts the flow and makes them lose money (not going to work, not going to school, disrupting businesses, etc.). All politicians in the PI are so corrupt that there’s really no choice left as to who’s the better man or woman.
It’s so disgusting when elections come around. Vote your conscience and not to those who gives the most handouts. They never learn.
#185 anoble, Have fun with your family tomorrow. I will report to you in Morse code
Hey guli…how are you? yup, we’re holding the fort tonight, until re-enforcement shows up.
#187: hey, cindy2? I hope it’s really you. What ever happened to you? You haven’t come to visit us in a long long while. Hope you can stay or visit more often. Will check out your link.
#190 TRT-andito ako sa maulan na lugar. Maulan lagi, pati sapatos ko nilumot na. hahahaha! I have never been to any rally. Hopeless na ba sa atin- politccal wise?

I was just at the AJ’s op-ed WP website. There are 22 pages of comments, not 10. You see the total # when you hit “last page”. AJ sure brings awareness where ever she goes.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Oldie, you’re absolutely right. I must have just looked at the pages visible when I left the site. The 22 pages makes it even more impressive that it was so overwhlemingly supportive of AJ.
The detractors are just embarassing themselves. Do they really think that a Washington Post reader isn’t just going to laugh at their silly accusations about AJ. You just have to wonder how psychologically damaged these people really are.
Hiya, thelookoflove1365 , groundcontrol , real tita, anoble —OK..so there are fans here at this hour…
Please excuse me since I will a make a fool of my self right now…
Whoop Cindy2 is here

thelookoflove1365 @ 02/29/2008 at 11:15 pm
I remember Angie said in one of her interview not sure if readers digest when she’s writing OpEd she asked Brad to read it first..
#193: TLOL, kung magulo nuon, ngayon yata mas maligalig. No true leader. Am not a Marcos fan, in fact far far from it pero he was the last one to establish some form of order and had the firm rein at the helm. The others were all wishy washy starting from Cory. Too bad Ninoy died. He would have been a good president, not the wife.
We need a miracle to save the country. If only GMA didn’t have a greedy husband, she could probably administer better.
ace tomato, #175… I started listening to him the same way, by accident. I can’t disagree with the negative comments made about him here except those who say he is an idiot, which he isn’t . He is a pompous blowhard, he does make comments on occasion I think are questionable, but he is a brillliant analyst and communicator, and not so much a republican as a conservative. He has praised the President and torn him apart. He is truly funny as well. I may have bad taste in men but I’d marry him tomorrow because he makes me laugh..
Orange Clockwork…Anthony Burgess called. He wants to know what’s up with your name….
HaHa, love it. Rush L says that Brad ’s great love Angie is a woman of substance as compared to a certain nonsubstantial person once in Brad’s past, and he sees why Brad loves his Angie. Rush pushed you idolized friend under a big bus and rolled over her, she who he labeled an unsubstantial person.
———————————————————————————————–
God, he said nothing of the kind. It’s possible that not everyone is so obsessed with comparing Angelina with Brad’s ex-wife. Do you think he was saying Gwyneth Paltrow and Juliette Lewis are unsubstantial as well? Of course not. In fact his words suggest he believes Brad is attracted to people with substance, he doesn’t say he’s only recently been that way. So if I chose to wildly interpret like you have, I could make the claim that Rush is saying Jennifer is a woman of substance.
Rush’s word only highlight what a joke this article is. It’s well written for an actress, but the people who are actually going to give their time and money to a cause like this would be swayed by a scholar, not an actress. Sure having Angelina write it highlights the issue, but what that means is that a ton of people will now be aware of something they have no intention of doing anything about. The tiny amount of money things like this generate aren’t worth the dent of credibility it brings.
I know everytime I see George Clooney or Angelina or another ambassador getting press it makes me feel the UN has become nothing more than a sad sad joke. Whereas when I see people who are the finest experts in the world talking it makes me hope the issues are being taken seriously, and thus I donate.
It’s not about not liking the actors who do these things, it’s that it’s a sign that fame is winning out against intelligence. Issues like Iraqi refugees needed to be treated seriously by the greatest minds in America and the rest of the coalition, not dumbed down so average joes can understand whats being said on CNN as they wait for the sport scores.
Just wanted to add, everyone I know was disgusted at the fact Angelina Jolie (and a few other stars over the years) was writing for The Washington Post. Some of these people are working for aid agencies and see first hand that while she might bring attention to an issue, if anything it makes getting things done harder, as the UN and governments can get by with the illusion that they are acting when they are really just biding their time.
Same as when Bono meets with a world leader. It’s just a high profile way of pretending you’re actually doing something when really all you have done is have a convo with a rock star.

______________
I just giggled when I read your post - I had the exact same thought - this is the first thing out of RL’s mouth that has ever sounded good to me too! I don’t doubt that he is using Angie’s article to further his political leanings, but who in the political arena doesn’t? They all latch on to articles and opinions that further their politics.
However, I’m dismayed to see some have reading comprehension skills - NOWHERE in Angelina’s article does she take a POLITICAL stance. Her stance is MORAL, and that transcends any political leanings or parties. Her focus is the refugees and also what the SOLDIERS WHO ARE THERE feel is the best thing to do.
All I can say is that Angelina is very wise in asking the soldiers for their position - they’re the ones on the ground dealing with the situation day in and day out. If a majority of them feel the right thing to do is stay and improve the situation, well I’m taking their word for it over some idiot 10 time zones away who is spouting off from behind their computer.
I’m also much more inclined to take the opinion of Angelina, who has been with the UNHCR since 2001 and traveled to DOZENS of refugee camps - she’s seen a heck of a lot and this is why the US Government assisted her trip to Iraq - they WANTED her opinion. Obviously they feel she is qualified to give it, as does the Washington Post.
You know, in Law we have witnesses that we call Expert Witnesses - they are called upon to provide Expert Reports and give Expert Evidence in Court if the case proceeds to trial. In order for their evidence to be considered, they have to show that they are qualified to give an opinion that should be considered by a Court as valid. For example, when a doctor provides an Expert Report for a client who has been injured in a car accident, their Resume must accompany their Expert Report and show why they are an expert in their field, or it will not be admitted as evidence.
So for all the naysayers out there, all I can say is that I’m taking the word of Angelina and the soldiers in Iraq over the Joe Blo’s out there spouting off behind their computer. Everyone is allowed to express thier opinion here, I don’t dispute that, but just keep in mind that someone like Angelina is 100% qualified to give her opinion to people who actually matter, want her opinion, and are capable of making changes to the situation and you are NOT.
#200–Okey dokey sweetheart —-what the crap have you done????? Did you donate millions of dollars like JP’s have, did you go to many, many war torn countiries. Me says, STFU unless you can prove otherwise!!! You know I really feel sorry for you….peace
Cindy2, Iam so glad to be here to read your message and see you are well. I read your looooooooooooooonnngg post ( “a few words?”) and it brought back the olden days when you and AG would have long dialogues about so many interesting issues. It is signigicent that so many posters, including me, periodically mention you and wonde how you are doing. I hope you stay well and will stay around for a while.
#196 naise, I think it was the RD interview, and yes Brad is eager to read her draft. I’ve never doubted that she wrote the op/ed. if you listen to her speak, she’s very articulate, not a dull speaker.
#197 TRT-You think the church shd stay out of it? They’re behind the rally,
you know?. who shd replaced gma? Is it true, the husband is kurakot?
He guli, trt, this cindy2 writes well. I read her post, but of course not understanding anything bcuz i am new here.
same time

They don’t want her opinion, they want to be seen to be wanting her opinion. Talking to nobodies like aid workers situated in Iraq wouldn’t get them any press and they need to LOOK like they are actually doing something, when their actually doing zip.
Also the soldiers have been told what to say to anyone asking questions, from reporters, to Angelina to world leaders. If you want the truth from them ask once we’ve been out of Iraq ten years. Also while they are in Iraq, the information they are getting from their superiors comes with a 100% US perspective. They really aren’t the best people to ask. What we need is experts on Iraq (I’m talking Harvard educated, multi-lingual former diplomats and advisers here), aid workers on the ground and actual Iraqi refugees, ones who haven’t been chosen by soldiers to talk.

Hello Guli and all the other late night fans
I’m going to head to bed soon but just wanted to say good evening to you all - you’re the best! And I have to agree - this is such a more interesting discussion to have than one about the trashy tabs etc.
Oops - that should read “DON’T have reading comprehension skills” in my post #201
A2B–are you still here—we have an idiot from Havaaad … ROTFLMAO…. Yeppp!!!! answer my my previous post honey ^^^^ how much have you donated and how many of there countries that Angie visited did you go to???? Ohhhh BTW–how much did you donate to Brad;s MIR??? Just asking…..

Did you donate millions of dollars like JP’s have, did you go to many, many war torn countiries.
———————————————————————————————–
No to the first. The non-profit I work for doesn’t exactly provide that sort of salary. And I’ve been to a few including Kosovo and Sudan, both to volunteer during gap years and to provide assessments of various programs for work. However I have no intention of showing you my records so go ahead and have a ball calling me a liar.
I am not saying that Angelina isn’t trying to do some good. But you would all be better off getting some perspective on the actual impact she’s making. The things she was involved in 7 years ago are getting worse. The situation for refugees is getting worse and her involvement has served only to highlight these issues for a brief time. Nothing substantial has been done, not enough money has been given and no government has acted. Yes she’s given away millions, which I’m sure made an impact in the UN’s annual Jeep upgrade or printed cap budget.
