OlderDrew Barrymore’s Million Dollar Donation
Ambassador Against Hunger Drew Barrymore is donating $1 million to the World Food Programme to help feed children in Africa.
The 33-year-old actress made the big announcement on Monday’s Oprah Winfrey Show. So far, Drew has taken two trips to Kenya to see the WFP’s work first hand.
“I have seen with my own eyes what a difference a simple cup of nutritious porridge can make in a child’s life,” Drew said. “It helps them learn, stay healthy and sets them on track for a bright future. I urge everyone — everywhere — to help WFP ‘Fill the Cup’ for hungry children, and make hunger history.”
WFP has a dream: to feed 10 million more hungry school children in Africa by Thanksgiving Day. Join Drew in helping feed millions of people at WFP.org.

I have always loved Drew and now even more so. She is one of the most generous, compassionate and loving people on the planet.
guess the starving children in the U.S are too good for her donations eh? We are a country that has a welfare problems and people living below their means “according to the government who steals from those that do to give to those that don’t” and she’s giving to other countries? Let her MOVE TO THE OTHER COUNTRY.
You know theres a real funny thing about all these celebrities and their giving money oveseas. The largest fact about all of this is, a country survives largely on the tax base it has. Africa and other countries stuck in the poverty cycle aren’t ran like the united states is, money collected doesn’t go back to the people. You can give money all you want to these people, it’s unfortunate that they are in this position, but when you chose to have children, be a parent, don’t rely on other countries to support you and your kids, people in the united states hold off having children until they can afford it, if you can’t afford to provide a life for your children don’t have any, that goes for africa too. End welfare, end the tax breaks these celebrities get for these “donations” They don’t deserve a tax break when the money is leaving the country, that’s why they do it, for tax breaks and for publicity, until this when was this girl in the news for anything.
i agree with eddie. instead of sending them money send them birth control or better yet FIX THEM ALL LIKE THEY DO WITH CATS AND DOGS! seriously sending them food is like trying to fill a bucket that has a huge hole in it cause they keep popping out more babies more mouths to feed! Great that more celebrities are getting into charity. first world countries benefit in many ways of third world countries, so, this is giving back in some way. Good for her, I will go to her movies, she usually is very good and she is a good comedian.

I guess Drew forgot to alert the media and papz unlike Brangloonies.
The first trips that Angie made to see refugees, were completely out of the limelight. They do that when they go check what’s going on. And believe me, it’s better if you draw attention to where you go, otherwise the world will never know. Would you know what’s in darfur if clooney and his gang wouldn’t show you? Would you know about cambodia and pakistan and their mines? Would you know how difficult it is to get fresh water in africa? You may have had an idea but you wouldn’t pay as much attention to a show about it if there wasn’t a famous person there. Granted, everyone who visits these pages, proves the theory. Perhaps you should think about the fact that the person you don’t like is doing this, doesn’t make it wrong.
As far as ‘there so many americans we need to help’ goes… There’s so many citizens of the planet to help. What the hell is wrong with spreading it out. Just because americans are the only ones worthy of help? Or because the millions of orphans dying isn’t american enough for you.

The criticisms are laughable…while you are assuming she’s doing this for publicity, should have given more money or has neglected the children of America, I have to ask: what are you all doing for charity? Unless you are giving the same type of aid and time, then you have zero right to criticize her. None of us knows what motivated her to get involved, but I refuse to attack her and assume the negative. She is taking more initiative than a lot of other celebs in Hollywood and I applaud her for it.
And as to those who believe only the poor, hungry children of America matter- when did we all decide that America is the only nation that matters in this global community? The plight of African nations is due largely to the impact left by European colonization. And any ridiculous argument that claims people choose to have babies and should therefore take care of their own is ignorant and insensitive to understanding third world nations. That view only leads to further ignorance followed by war, murder and destruction (as already played out for centuries).
We should absolutely provide aid to lesser developed nations- and not because it’s solely viewed as an obligation, but because if we were in the same situation, wouldn’t we want someone to help us? Part of America’s greatness is to be a leader for various causes and helping stop poverty and disease is a key aspect of that work…if America wants to regain some respect in this world, then it ought to lead campaigns that will only make the world safer and healthier for all members (and contrary to some on here, we are all members of a global community- no human life is more valuable than another).
