Zac Efron: Me & the Orson Welles Director
Zac Efron takes a moment out of his busy filming schedule to pose with director Richard Linklater while promoting their new film Me & Orson Welles.
The director-actor pair spent most of their time shooting at the Gaiety Theatre. Me & Orson Welles is set in 1937 and is about an Orson Welles production of Julius Caesar staged at New York’s famous Mercury Theatre.
A solo Zac was also seen dining by himself after a week of filming on the tiny Isle of Man.

This is after Richard breaks all ties with Orson Welles and is on the roof of the Mercury Theater.
I walked along the edge of the roof. I studied the city rising in its towers and wires—and I thought: What if I closed my eyes? What if I counted to five, and then opened my eyes again, and the whole city would be made perfect—and everything under the face of God would be exactly where it was supposed to be, and everyone would be doing exactly what he was supposed to be doing, and every speck of dust would be exactly in place? I shut my eyes and imagined the world turning to such a paradise, and I counted to five—and I opened my eyes and saw the city exactly as it had been before. Unaltered. Traffic passed. Somewhere below a neon light blinked.
And I thought: Could this be paradise? Maybe every particle of dust is exactly where it’s supposed to be. Every turning, every heartache, every atom—exactly where it could only be? There is nothing lifeless in the universe, no chaos, no disorder, thought this may not be immediately clear to us. If only I could believe that. And the darkness and the skyscrapers and the fog and ever water droplet—a kind of life: complex, connected—a kind of fake paradise, at least the only kind of paradise I would ever know. This crazy, beautiful web of light and stone.

Boy the haters must just sit around until a Zac or Vanessa thread
comes out. You must be very lonely, jealous, insecure people, try
to find someting in life that makes you happy. As far as Zac goes
it doesn’t matter what his hair looks like he is one of the most
beautiful people on the planet and I agree with Laura just you wait
until his movies come out. His real fans that have been following
his career since he was a kid already know from his tv appearances
and “Miracle Run” that he is more than capable of pulling this off.
BTW the director is so young and cute I didn’t expect that. That’s
wonderful to see that success at such a young age.
You people who are so critical of Zac’s acting abilities: Why is it that Adam Shankman was so taken with Zac’s talent after doing Hairspray with him that he created 17 Again for him? Now Richard Linklater is singing his praises too as well as the producers of this film. Seem to me that if nothing else Zac is doing a great job at acting like he can act and these guys don’t seem to have caught on yet. But then again, they are the experts and you people are not. Envious and resentful is what you people are because this guy is doing so well and getting noticed and you are not.

Zac must be really working long hours according to the producer. He doesn’t get much time off it would seem. But then again, it is an independent film and they really film them quickly so no time to be lazy. I thought what the producer said was sweet about wanting to do more for the crowd—so they must be there every day even though we haven’t been seeing them.

Oh, my…1930s, 1960s, present day…is there a time period Zac doesn’t look great in?!! LOL.
But, seriously, that was very cool seeing the press conference and hearing from the director and producers. I am really excited for this movie since the book was fabulous. Malia - I feel like they’ll have to have some voiceover work…at least, I really hope they do because there’s a lot of great “thinking” for Richard’s character that we might miss out on otherwise…which is no reflection on Zac and his ability to portray different thoughts/emotions, but just some of the real specific humorous and poignant thoughts, etc. Anyway, seeing the photos, Zac has really become the Richard I imagined. Good stuff.
And, it sounds like he’s having long, busy days…6:30am to 7pm…then dinner, then, knowing healthy Zac, he probably does some working out then and fits some time into his day to chat with Miss V at some point of course. With this kind of schedule, I’m sure the time is just flying by for him.

Also wanted to say…Laura, Birdie, Karen - great posts. And, Birdie, thanks for adding what I was thinking of adding about Zac’s work prior to HSM too. Yes, that ended up getting him a lot of attention, but he had shown himself to be talented and promising before that came his way. Being autistic, involved with murder, abused, comically part of a dysfunctional family…and believable in every role…His latest films will continue to allow Zac to shine. :-)

It’s obvious that the people who criticize Zac’s acting, know absolutely nothing about him.
They are from that demented group called “celebrity haters.” According to psychologists, it is now classified as a disease in our society that afflicts people who cannot have any measure of success in their own lives.
Also, anyone who has seen Miracle Run (for which Zac was nominated for best young actor award) knows Zac is a damned good actor.
And here is what Adam Shankman, director of HS and producer of 17 Again has to say about Zac’s acting:

Mernam I think he returns to L.A. sometime late March, High School Musical 3 starts rehearsals on the week in March starting the 30th.

You have that right, Karen. I totally agree. Zac looks great in these pics and is really trying out all sides of acting in these movies. His comedic side in Seventeen Again, dramatic side in Me & Orson Welles, and singing , dancing and acting in the HSM films. More power, Zac!

Those are the filming dates. Dance rehearsals and music recording starts late March. :)

loved your quote from the book, it was a very powerful moment in the story!!!!
and zac fan–i agree with you zac that doing narration for the story would be incredible. the first thing that struck me when i started reading the book was that it was written as a first person narrative and all i think about was zac’s voice giving rise to Richard’s thoughts throughout the movie. to say the idea made me swoon is an understatement :lol:
and again, i flove this hairstyle on him, i love his hair anyway he wears it, but his just makes him look gorgeous, b/c he isn’t hiding that beautiful face.
and as for his acting ability, he has proven he can act, and i dare say we haven’t even seen the best of him yet. the producers of hairspray even commented that zac’s portrayal of link was unlike any other. they stated that he was able to bring a vulnerability and sincerity to the character that no other link had previously possessed, and he made it his own.
his other works have shown his abilities as well, and i think this movie in particular will really showcase what he’s made of, and boost his career to the next level!
