Karen, I agree that house hunting for Vanessa is just on hold. It’s hard to look for a house in LA and be working in Texas. And I don’t think she’s looking for something for her parents. She’s wants her her own “first place.”

Jake Thomas wants to be the next Zac Efron.

The Knoxville native, whose credits include a starring role in Steven Spielberg’s “A.I.” and Disney Channel’s “Cory in the House,” is vying for a lead role in “High School Musical 3.”

“Yesterday was a first for me,” he tells the Insider. “It was the first time I had to sing for an audition. It was an interesting challenge for me, but I think I was up for it.”

Thomas performed for casting agents looking to fill the lead role of “HSM3,” which will be the swan song for the current “HSM” cast, but not the end of the “HSM” franchise. More “HSM” movies are on the drawing boards, but the ones beyond this third one will be done without Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and the rest of the current stars.

In “HSM3,” the current cast is graduating high school. However, a new cast of characters will be introduced to carry on the song-and-dance routines for future movies.

“This is their last hurrah,” Thomas says.

Thomas is auditioning for the lead male role, a part that would, essentially, fill the void when Efron’s character is gone from movies beyond “HSM3.”

“The character I am auditioning for would take over Zac Efron’s (function). He would be the new star basketball player at the school,” he says.

Thomas fancies himself a singer but not much of a dancer.

He’s also not much of a fan of “HSM” or any other musical for that matter. “I’m not one who gives into hype,” he says with a laugh when asked if he was a fan of the previous “HSM” movies.

However, “I did watch ‘Sweeney Todd,’ and I liked it a lot,” he says.

Thomas’ own high-school days are over. He recently earned his high school diploma and is living in Los Angeles, complete with his own place to live.

His next project is the TV western movie “Aces N’ Eights,” airing later this month on the ION network (the channel formerly known as Pax). He co-stars in it with Ernest Borgnine.

Thomas, who was a student at Farragut High School last school year, still considers Knoxville home. He now is going to college part time.

yeah Zanessa has been together for about two years now, and in those two years they’ve been through a lot together, and personally i think the distance has only made their relationship stronger.

is it just me, or does anyone else think that it is weird that Jake Thomas, who said he isn’t a big fan of HSM, auditioned for HSM3!?

all of these articles are being published about HSM3 and i don’t know what to believe. they are all about the idea of a new cast coming in to take over for the original cast in the future HSM movies, which doesn’t make sense, because in the article Natalie posted above, it said that there is going to be no more High School Musical Movies, and that was from a site thats part of Disney. i don’t know what to think. all i know is that i don’t want anyone new and i want a lot of cute Troyella moments in the movie.

Its is really confusing. I wish they would just tell us what’s going on! lol. What I think is gonna happen is that they’re just gonna introduce the new characters and then give their movies a new name and just refer to them as being from hsm so that they can still get a lot of fans from it.

I too think its really stupid that that kid tried for hsm3, and of all parts the lead, and he didn’t even like hsm!! That’s just crazy. He even said he didn’t really dance!?! If they end up choosing this kid to be the new troy, it just shows that ALL disney is after is the money because he doesn’t even seem to be remotely interested in it!

Natalie, i totally agree with you. if they choose him, it will prove what disney really is after, and hopefully its not the money.

i don’t think anyone can replace the original cast. they have such amazing chemistry and it really shows on screen. hopefully disney realizes that, and understand that besides the stoylines and music and dancing, that the cast is one of the reasons HSM is soo big.

disney got extremely lucky with the HSM franchise, something like this doesn’t happen often.

Thanks for the article if only because Vanessa is looking so pretty as always. I see her “precious” is there with her. LOL
However, I must say what a stupid write up that is and why so many young people get all upset thinking Zac and Vanessa have broken up. First they make it sound like there is something wrong just by the fact Zac is not with her. They fail to mention she happens to be in the state of Texas because she is working and that is the only reason she is there seeing this movie. Of course they don’t mention that Zac is also away working they just make it sound like they are raising their eyebrow as to why they aren’t together. Either they are ignorant as to what these two are doing in their careers or they just want to start a rumor. Either way, these are the kinds of people who get to go out and photograph people like Vanessa and Zac and get to write in magazines and on blogs. THEN the mention about Vanessa’s “boy toy” like she is some old woman dating a younger man. For pity sakes, she’s only 19 and he’s 20, what’s this boy toy stuff. At any rate this website would not get my vote of confidence.
