Jodie Foster Hasn’t Fallen in Love Yet
Jodie Foster is featured in this week’s cover story in Parade. She never married but has two sons: Charles Bernard Foster, 9, and Kit Bernard Foster, 6.
In the article, Jodie opens up about her childhood influences, how she almost quit acting and how being a child prodigy is “inherently lonely.”
On not opening up about her personal life: “I don’t think there is any good thing about fame. In this business, in order to care for yourself and the people you love, you have to separate your professional life from your personal life.”
On having not yet fallen in love: “Oh, my life is basically from the head up. I’m definitely not proud of that. I’m very analytical.”
On protecting her kids from the spotlight: “I do what I can. We try not to go out at night or go places where there’ll be 20 photographers. I try to minimize their exposure to assaults.”
What’s strange is that Jodie made paid tribute to longtime companion film producer Cydney Bernard during an acceptance speech in December 2007 at a breakfast for Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment. Does that not count as love?
Check out more interview tidbits at Parade.com. Jodie’s new family comedy-adventure, Nim’s Island, opens on April 4.

JMO you’re being unfair. She is an actress and an iconic actress not some celebrity offering up her life to the world. She doesn’t owe us anything but her great work onscreen and tha’ ’s where it ends. And she’s smart enough to keep the focus on her work. When she has to do interviews to promote her films (she’s under contract to do them you know) she keeps the focus on her work not her love life and sexuality. Meryl Streep is straight and is the same way. Just because Jodie is a lesbian doesn’t mean she has to go around waving a flag.
To me she sets a better example by living her life normal and away from the spotlight. She has already thanked and acknowledged her girlfriend publicly what more do you want? She’s smart to be private. And I think all true actors straight or gay are smart to keep their private life private. De Niro does it and Jodie does it. She’s been through a lot having her life invaded by psychos so she doesn’t owe us anything so leave her alone.
Well, maybe she’s just an honest and realistic person who’s in a commited relationship but is not “in love”. sorry for those who live in Disney world but being in a relationship doesn’t necessarily mean being in love
Yeah where does she actually say “I’ve never been in love” or anything even resembling that sentence?!…all she says is that she goes with her head 1st & is analytical. she still rockz & will forever be one of my fav actresses simply cos of Silence of the Lambs (dear god I love that film!)
What a filthy , degenerate lesbian. surely she will ************.
Maybe she means with A MAN!
shut up baby tee. She rocks!
And you people aren’t getting that interviews are taken out of context. She probably didn’t ever answer the question if she’s ever been in love. Instead she probably gave this long winded response where she talks about being an analytical person that thinks from the head up and not being the type of person that romanticizes things. If you’ve seen jodie in an interview she is the master at spinning questions without revealing personal stuff. That quote was taken completely out of context obviously.
besides she once wrote about how she was in love with a boy at Yale when talking about the whole Hinkley thing. And she said when she watches her old movies she remembers people she was in love with. So obviously the quote is taken out of context.
yeah bam Silence of hte Lambs rocks. It’s my favorite film of all time so obviously I love Jodie as an actress. NO one could play Clarice Starling as perfectly as she did. Clarice Starling role is a groundbreaking role for women and it even inspired the X- Files Sculley. How cool is that?
“I don’t think there is any good thing about fame.”
Then get a real job?
The more gays want it to be normal the more it is not. It is what it is, and that homosexuality and nothing more. 75% of people will always think it’s not normal, unless you live San Francisco. That’s the reason Rosie O is so angry.
Jodie, is one classy person, and alot of peeps in Hollywood could learn alot from her.
Alright, I have another quote I have a problem with.
“That’s why I couldn’t rebel. That’s why I couldn’t get lost for days on end. I always had to work.”
Who the hell, as a teenager, ever gets to get lost for days?? There are kids out there who literally must work for their families to survive. And none of them are out there acting and complaining about how rough life is when you get WAY overpaid to do ****. They are way underpaid to do more labor than she ever has.
I can’t believe people here are so naive about the business of celebrity. The ‘celebrity’ is only a small part of the business just like politicians are a small part of the business of government. It is the celebrity rags, etc who decide who’s life gets to be over-exposed by the viewing public and that is determined by money, idiots. That this story on Jodie Foster is stuck at 2 pages of readers’ comments should tell anyone with any degree of insight why she isn’t all over the pages of US weekly etc. Besides Jody falls into a unique category. Her story in the 80’s was all about the obsession of her by a mad man that allmost killed a sitting President, supposedly for her benefit. Nobody wants to revisit that.
Maybe loneliness is the price great actors have to pay for their gift. I mean she has a partner but no great love, cos she’s married to her job. You can’t have everything.
They gave her a chance to be honest — and yet again she lied.
Her decision to deny who she is and deny her lover and co-parent of her children is disgusting.
What an AWFUL way to bring up children.
What an AWFUL message she is teaching them.
To be happy you have to LIE and HIDE.
Do her kids get to be honest about their two Mom’s or have
they be instructed to lie as well.
DISGUSTING WOMAN
and a shameful role model for all people Gay, Straight, Bi and Lesbian.
The more gays want it to be normal the more it is not. It is what it is, and that homosexuality and nothing more. 75% of people will always think it’s not normal, unless you live San Francisco. That’s the reason Rosie O is so angry.
THIS IS THE IGNORANCE JODIE FOSTER’S SILENCE AND LIES REINFORCES — she is an awful SELFISH PERSON.
Straight Supremists love CLOSETED FEARFUL GAYS LIKE JODIE.
How ironic she plays BRAVE WOMEN in the movies so well but in
REAL LIFE she is a COWARD !!!
This is PRECISELY why she does not EVER do interviews. There is NO WAY that her quote about being analytical was a response to a question about having ever been in love, ONCE AGAIN the media is twisting around quotes, and it’s disgusting. She would never disrespect her wife this way
#41 you may want to check yourself. First of all it isn’t JF’s JOB to “come out”.
Some statistics claim 8.8 million people are gay in the U.S., and they’re treated like S H I T. Leave the JOB of coming out to the Ellens of the world, who reach a wide audience on a daily basis, not JF. She made a decision a LONG time ago to keep her private life private after the acute trauma of March 30, 1981 and STILL has crazed stalkers harrassing her to this day (one was just recently arrested)
You’re trippin’ if you think she’s lying to her children or telling them to lie to anyone, get REAL. Everyone and their grandmother knows about JF and no one CARES if she’s a lesbian.
You want a real case of a lying hypocritical celeb, who not only has been living a lie for 20 years, making everyone sign confidentiality agreements to say he’s NOT a raging h o m o, marrying and marrying and marrying people of the OPPOSITE s e x and dragging them into his charade, PLUS involving his children in the SHAM and DECIT that his “wifes” child is his biologically??? Go shout off the roof tops about Tom Cruise…NOT jodie foster
I don’t get it, far as I can tell she never said that she hasn’t been in love, unless it’s parade asking her why she hasn’t been in love i.e hasn’t had a public relationship or got married. I guess that would make more sense because then her response reads more like she thinks with her head so she’d never tell us about her partner cause it’s not in either of their best interests.
@Wyatt: I think Jodie was being sarcastic to the reporter
