Helen Mirren is More Sexy

Helen Mirren talks to More magazine about love, movies, aging gracefully, and reveals the sex appeal that just won’t quit.

Here’s what Dame Helen had to say in her interview, on newsstands March 18th:

On fame: “What I have is very benign, very sweet. Often it goes straight over my head. There are only two really tough times to be recognized: One is when you’re waiting for your luggage in the airport, and the other is when you are standing in line for the ladies’. Then you’re a captive and you either give up your place in line or you pretend that you don’t want your luggage after all. And then the embarrassment of my scruffy luggage when it does come out.’”

On sexuality and power: “I’m still trying to wriggle out from under that label. Sexuality for girls is so complex and tricky. I was never beautiful, but as a young woman, beautiful or not is sort of irrelevant. Being a sexual object is mortifying and irritating, yet it’s giving you power—an awful power that you’ve done nothing to deserve, a powerless power. I think some young women fall in love with that power, and it’s really objectifying. And when it starts falling away, it’s an incredible relief.”

On her opinion on Americans: “I think Americans are a little parochial, a little naïve. Naïveté can be a good thing as well, all that innocence and idealism, not like those cynical Europeans: ‘Oh, it’ll never work!’ But sometimes Americans show a terrible cruelty toward their own people, like what happened post-Katrina, in the wealthiest country in the world. Which is extraordinary to me.”

On aging and still working: “I’ve never been worried about getting older, but I do recognize that I’ve been incredibly lucky. I’ve been able to keep working and working, how cool is that? I’m still here, and I’m surging ahead at the moment. But that happened because I’ve always thought of myself as constantly learning.”

On experience and getting older: “When you’re 16, you think 28 is so old! And then you get to 28 and it’s fabulous. You think, then, what about 42? Ugh! And then 42 is great. As you reach each age, you gain the understanding and experience you need to deal with it and enjoy it.”

Love her.

She is THE Queen!

She is the greatest…..I’m 58 and she is my role model. I respect her and how she keeps her life private, although I am curious about her.
Why can’t we have more Queens like her?

she’s great!

Classy lady.

Love her! Great actress, intelligent, and a true class act.

Helen is inteligent, elegant and very good actress.
Interesting interview.

She’s good, classy and all but I feel a little detached from her due to her comments about giving birth. She said something along the lines of “It’s gross and disgusting …..” and that’s why she never had children.

I’m quite in touch with my maternal instincts and therefore cannot relate to her. But to each his own.

Maternal or not, she is the classiest actress in the world. Love her and all her films and TV appearances (The Queen and Prime Suspect - fantastic!)

Helen Mirren is marvellous. Her acting is superb and I find her personality both refreshing and candid.

I love her. She’s one of my favorite actresses. She’s beautiful but the cover picture is not her best.

I agree, the cover photo does not due her justice. Gray with gray hair is too blah although I love the dress. She looks fabulous in vibrant colors like the gorgeous red dress she wore for the Oscars.
I hope we get to see more of her and hear more from her. She should run for some office, she could bring help to this completely screwed
up world.

She is still attractive after all these years. I just wish she would accept that fact that she “is” sexy. The entertainment world didn’t turn her into a sex object. She just has “that thing” that can’t be created and she would probably be considered sexy if she worked in a supermarket. She is what she is. Period.

Helen Mirren has more talent in her forefinger than all of the wannabe starlets and fashionistas combined, that keep on getting mentioned over and over and over again on Justjared.
but this entry only gets twenty posts. Sad and tells you about that the state of celebrity these days. People don’t care anymore if anybody has any actual talent. As long as they are cute and look good in clothes that’s enough for them to garner attention.

Ms Helen SHUT UP

Helen is the best. she is so beautiful so talented and she has the best personality I can’t say them same for alot of other actress. She rocks!!

I meant to say the instead I wrote them

As a black woman, I never knew why I liked Helen Mirren. I knew she was a good actress in my opinion. However, I started putting my finger on why I liked Helen Mirren. It’s because of the roles she chose as an actress. Now, after reading her short interview, I am confirmed even more as a fan of Helen Mirren.

Congratulations everyone,
Out of 26 posts we only had one person, who had something unkind to say, that is really an accomplishment at JJ.
For a women to still be so popular and well respected in the show business industry at Helens age is wonderful, there are very few and far between. Helen is a very intelligent women and a master at her craft. I love that she is embracing her age and looking her best without trying to look younger It is refreshing to see a real women without all the plastic surgery, she is a great roll model for young female actors.

Sunny #23, You must be American and the post Katrina comment must have struck a nerve. You shouldn’t be surprised most foreigners have the same feeling on the whole catastrophe.

She is truly an inspiration! LOVE-LOVE-LOVE

NO 7 I live in the UK and am American it’s not that Europeans/Brits don’t like American’s it’s just sometimes the attitude of being the best/greatest and look everything is better here (US) can grate on the nerves. I love how the English don’t take themselves or stuff too seriously.

She is amazing have loved her since Prime Suspect, Madness of King George, elegant, looks great and smart.

I am 37 years old and I absolutely ADORE Dame Helen Mirren. The woman can simply do no wrong in my eyes. She has it all - natural beauty, incredible talent, intelligence, wit and charisma.

LOL: I just bought a copy of this More issue - trust me. the cover looks MUCH better in real life than it does here (I’m not sure why). And the photos inside are GORGEOUS.
