here’s a funny funny. On the IMDB (Internet movie database) Jakey is described as “Norwegian-American.” Shows you how much (little I mean) IMDB knows. What a hoot.

His father is Swedish (nobility they say) and his mother is Jewish-American. That makes Jakey officially a Jew, so he fits into Hollyweird very well. There are non-Jews in Hollyweird but not many and you have to look hard to find them. Hollyweird has always been Jewish from the start.

So he is Jewish. That means he has been circumcised. And that may explain why he has never appeared full front necked in any movie. Do you suppose that the circumcision may have gone awry and removed too much? LOL.

Bubble Boy is being rerun on TV tonight and I have to say that Jakey when he was starting out did CUTE very very well. He is awfully cute in Bubble Boy. He moved on to do MIXED UP KID very well too, in The Good Girl. And a few years later he did GAY COWBOY well too, except that he had to compete with Ledger who did gay cowboy better, much better. Since then he has not done cute, or mixed up kid, or gay anything and his career hasn’t been all that hot. I don’t think he is all that good at non-cute, non-mixed up, non-gay roles. He is okay but not great. He might try doing period piece stuff. I think if he put on his beard again he could do some Henry James or Edith Wharton just fine. Maybe a remake of Washington Square, with Witheringspoon as the jilted rich girl. Witheringspoon would have to uglify herself however to be convincing. No Anon you didn’t read the trivia section of IMDB closely enough to see that Jake was identified there as part Norwegian. I found that very funny and pointed it out. You just didn’t get the whole story or the context. I think Jake STUDIED Oriental Relgions at Columbia but his identity is Jewish. He had a Bar Mitzvah. What religion he chooses to follow, if any, I have no idea. Most Hollyweird people like to fill their heads with all sorts of stuff and nonsense since they don’t know where they are coming from or where they are going. I didn’t say I think Jake is gay. He is probably straight, but possibly bi. Bi would be conceiveable. But he is WEIRD. I watched him last night on Conan. Of course the viewer wasn’t told that the show was over a year old, but that became apparent when Jake used it to push Rendition (”that will be coming out soon”). Disgusting that these late night shows are reruns. Anyhoo, Jakey spent most of the short time he had on the show making funny noises and talking in a falsetto voice. Very odd. The funny noises were supposed to be how Japanese girl fans sound. Not really all that funny. I recall reading somewhere that a guy who knew him years ago on Martha’s Vineyard (where Jakey’s parents have a vacation home) said that he spent most of his time doing weird imitations of people in silly voices, etc. Jakey only SEEMS normal because he covers up his essential weirdness, one might suspect. He’s a genuine product of HollyWEIRD, that’s for sure.
PS There was a piece in the British newspaper Independent on the 12 greatest movie kisses. Of course the Jake/Heath kiss from Brokeback was #1. And they had a clip of it slow motion. Very interesting. It shows Heath really smacking Jakey right hard on the lips and poor Jakey looks a bit confused and bewildered. Quite convincing. I would guess it was so convincing that that is why people think Jakey is really gay.

I like Jake’s “weirdness”. You could say the same of most actors. Heath Ledger was always “weird” in interviews, fidgeting and nervous, so are other actors. I think weirdness is part of their expression. So what if Jake does silly imitations. He can give a great interview too like on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and on Ellen.
