Jude Law Speaks Out on Anthony Minghella’s Death
Jude Law expressed deep sorrow about the unfortunate death of director Anthony Minghella:
“I am deeply shocked and saddened to hear of Anthony’s untimely death. I worked with him on three films, more than with any other director, but had come to value him more as a friend than as a colleague. He was a brilliantly talented writer and director who wrote dialogue that was a joy to speak and then put it onto the screen in a way that always looked effortless. He made work feel like fun. He was a sweet, warm, bright and funny man who was interested in everything from football to opera, films, music, literature, people and most of all his family whom he adored and to whom I send my thoughts and love. I shall miss him hugely.”
Jude and Anthony worked together on 1999’s The Talented Mr. Ripley, 2003’s Cold Mountain and 2006’s Breaking and Entering.

They seemed like good friends! I loved all three of their outings together.
Ughh, this was such a surprise. I love The Talented Mr. Ripley
RIP
I hate very much that this happened. He made very good films.
I feel so sad for Jude. Anthony was a great mentor and great friend to him….
This is so sad I loved all the films Anthony and Jude made together.
Anthony will truly be missed.
I was looking forward to the possibility of them working together again. I’m sad that he’s gone. My sympathies to Anthony’s family.
Love Talented Mr. Ripley and Cold Mountain, and to a lesser degree, Breaking and Entering.
It would have been great for them to do more work together.
This is such terrible news…they made two of my favorite movies together, TTMR and CM.
noooooooo
:(”
Jude worked with him a lot. I wonder if they would have done anything else together? This is so terrible and sad.
Minghella was a true artist. His films are beautiful, a sight to behold.
Truly
This is really shocking! And i fell really sorry for Anthony.
And they were really close and would be great if they work together again.
I have especially ordered “Breaking and Entering” (Not yet come). I love all Minghella’s films, English Patient is the most precious. God! I am not sure if I can watch “Breaking and Entering” now!
Good Bye, Anthony. Till we meet again!
My respects and condolences to his admirers, family and love ones.

Godbless & Godspeed!
what a loss. he was still in his creative prime. jude is suffering i know….thank god jude hasn’t experienced too many deaths among family and close friends. this one hurt him terribly. there surely would have been more films to come. a part of jude has broken off,
#15,
What??? How is this about Jude??? His comments are nice but he was only a friend. Anthony’s family suffered a big loss, not Jude.
this was in no way intended to be a slight to anthony’s family. i can just imagine the pain they are feeling but since the title of this thread was jude speaks out about anthony minghella i felt my comment appropriate. my heart goes out to carolyn choa, max and hannah minghella.
@ trueblue & dolores,
na, na luvs! I think the last thing that my Beloved Anthony wanted is to know that his admirers are fighting about some words…I apologize, arguing about some words.
Our hearts are filled with sadness, our best wishes to the family..and I think that matters.
By the way, Dolores… I asked you some question on the thread “I have a dream - two dreams”. Can you check it out, please..
There ’s nothing about Jude though anywhere no news at all……
I loved Minguella’s films it was a gread loss indeed!!
natalie,
it was just announced that jude would be the face of christian dior parfums. he will appear on television and in magazines.
Thanks Dolores Craeg! I mean I usually news google ‘His Name’ :):) I have done so maybe three times this week and nothing came up! thanks so much!! I love Dior! He is getting into the modelling business for good now isn’t he?!! Right after Dunhill here comes Dior!! Well you can’t blame him for capitalizing on his name I guess! there are dues to be paid!! Thanks again!
He can’t possibly continue spoiling us like this, can he? After Sleuth, and My Blueberry Night? But to be honest, I would prefer if he stop re-making Michael Caine’s films. He should make more of “Road to Perdition” kind of films. You know, small role but strongly present.
Anyway,
As I sat alone in the park yesterday,
just to watch the children play,
a thought came to me:
“A scent of Jude,
grace Goodness!
I already could taste
the sweetness of his mouth
every time I have a pear on my tongue,
and now his scent would flow down
my body…
would he reach the very deep inside of me,
without even touching me?
Shall I let my lover gently sleep
and deny the kiss that I promise to give?”
The sky was blue,
the sun shone bright
but the wind coldly blew
cherry flowers started to bloom
and the city was rich
with palette of colors
I left the park with a weary head
this consume of Jude
slowly became the end of me.
but then again,
what would lovers do
if not surrender
to gentleness
and the command of the heart?
I know it’s a little bit late,
but Happy Easter, every body!
RIen - That was a lovely poem - you evoke the feeling of Spring and
the sweet scent of love beautifully. It brightened my morning considerably and today it is cold here in ’sunny’ Florida but in your
poem with its lovely imagery it is a beautiful Spring day with the
essence of a beautiful man to enhance it.
Thank you, Sandy. It was a lovely day, two days ago. Berlin is always cold in the early Spring, but hey, with a little bit better spirit, it will do me just fine. The essence of a beautiful man…hmh.. I like the word.
