Someone Got Married At A Lavish New Orleans Ceremony, But Not Brangelina

(CBS) Don’t buy any wedding gifts for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie just yet.

Online reports that the couple got married in New Orleans over the weekend are untrue, sources tell both People and Us Magazine.

Although the couple were in New Orleans two weeks ago, they have recently been in Austin where Pitt is filming the movie “Tree Of Life” with Sean Penn.

Over the weekend Star magazine reported that the couple exchanged wedding vows at the French Quarter Wedding Chapel.

“We talked to someone who was there,” Star editor-in-chief Candace Trunzo told the Daily News.

The Rev. Tony Talavera of the French Quarter Wedding Chapel told Life & Style, a magazine that often features questionable stories about the Hollywood power couple, that the story was not true.

According to OK! magazine, the rumors may have started because of another wedding in the Big Easy.

A couple was married on Saturday at a lavish wedding at St. Louis Cathedral. Sources told the magazine that the wedding was estimated to have a price tag around $500,000, with thousands spent on flowers and decorations. One source said that there were police barricades around the church and that a caravan of cars with a police escort left the ceremony.

But, what sounded like a Hollywood gala event was actually an extravagant wedding thrown by an elite New Orleans family.

By Monday afternoon, Star had retracted its story saying, “After further investigation, (our) sources are not standing by their story. Brad and Angelina’s reps have not commented.”

Jolie, 32, has been married twice before, to Jonny Lee Miller and then Billy Bob Thorton, both actors. Pitt, 44, was married to actress Jennifer Aniston.

Pitt told Esquire magazine in 2006 that he and Jolie “will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able.”

The couple has four children: Maddox, 6, adopted from Cambodia; Pax, 4, adopted from Vietnam; Zahara, 3, adopted from Ethiopia; and Shiloh, their biological daughter, who turns 2 in May. Jolie is expecting again.

The percentage of New Orleans’ homeless is one of the highest recorded since U.S. housing officials began tracking homelessness in the mid-1980s, said Dennis Culhane, a University of Pennsylvania professor who has studied homeless trends for more than 20 years.

“In a modern urban U.S. city, we’ve never seen it,” he said of New Orleans’ homeless rate.

Many of the homeless are Katrina evacuees who returned to unaffordable rents or who slipped through the cracks of the federal system designed to provide temporary housing after the storm, said Mike Miller, Unity director of supportive housing placement.

There are also out-of-state workers who came for the post-Katrina rebuilding boom but lost their jobs, and mentally ill residents in need of services and medication, he said. Many of the city’s outreach homeless centers and public mental health services have been closed since Katrina.

Celebrity Diplomacy, published a few months ago, features a split-photo cover. The top-half shows an unadorned Angelina Jolie, head ensconced in a large black scarf, listening to a woman and surrounded by children in a Middle Eastern country. On the bottom half, a gritty-faced Bono makes a V-sign striding alongside George W. Bush, who flashes a smile and a wave.

The personable Bono managed an “ongoing friendship with Bill Clinton,” says Cooper, “with a warm relationship with President George W. Bush.”

Jolie figures prominently because “she surprised people,” he says. “You would have thought she wouldn’t be particularly good or valuable, but she seems to be growing into the part with gravitas and maturity.

“Her trip to Iraq in February probably put more attention on the refugee issue there and in Jordan and Syria” than it had yet received, he says. She also sits on the board of the prestigious New York-based think-tank, the Council on Foreign Relations.

Recently, Drew Barrymore gave $1 million to the UN World Food Program. “Once again, I wouldn’t have expected it,” he says, “but given the rise of food prices (her choice) is understandable.”

Celebrity diplomats, he says, “put a human face on international relations.” But, he notes, along with kudos, the stars draw criticism for raising resources that occasionally wind up as a weapon in oppressors’ hands, for interfering with other NGO efforts and for seeking the limelight.

WASHINGTON — For displaced residents planning on moving back to Louisiana, the Census Bureau has a suggestion.

Make it back by April 1, 2010, if you want to be counted as a resident in the population numbers that determine congressional seats, federal allocations and other issues for the next decade. Those who arrive on April 2, 2010, or later will be counted as a resident of Atlanta, Houston or wherever they landed after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita forced hundreds of thousands from their homes in Louisiana.

Last week, the New England Historic Genealogical Society issued a press release that it knew would get some bounce: the group said it had traced the ancestry of the presidential candidates and found that all of them had blood ties — albeit distant ones — to unlikely famous people.

In other words, the revelations did what they were meant to do, which was to spread a little publicity for a nonprofit group that revels in historic minutia (the home page of its Web site, under the category “What’s New?” boasts of having the vital records for East Granby, Conn., from 1737 to 1886).

I see our resident troll is still pining for the Golden Couple and harping on the lovely love child of BP and AJ. BP and AJ have four adorable, well loved children with more on the way.
