Reese Witherspoon visits a New Orleans Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) Freedom School where at-risk children learn to become community leaders.
Her experience down in New Orleans will air on the American Idol special, IDOL GIVES BACK, airing Wednesday, April 9 @ 7:30-10:00 PM ET/PT on FOX.
Reese has said, “Once you have children in your life, you can no longer close your eyes to people… who are in a similar situation.”
Last year, Idol Gives Back raised $75+ million for charity. Other pictures below feature Idol judges Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson visiting children from Goshen Elementary school in Goshen, Calif.

Aren’t there any, like, white underprivileged white kids anywhere - Appalachia, West Virginia, local trailer park, or something? Idol makes it seem like poverty is just a black/African problem. Why can’t we see the pretty white blond woman posing with some poor white kids? I know, I know, it’s not as dramatic has having, say, a Reese Witherspoon or a Carrie Underwood, hugging a dark skinned child. And, #23, shame on you for making it seem like McCain’s supporters are racist, just because they don’t like Obama. Yes, there probably are people who aren’t voting for Obama because of his race, but there’s more who are voting for him BECAUSE of his race; just listen to his supporters. And, believe it or not, there’s some people who just won’t vote someone who supports partial birth abortion (Obama does) or Obama’s other liberal view no matter what color he/she is. As for me, it doesn’t matter what race a candidate is - that’s why I voted for Clinton. If race was an issue, I would have voted for Obama.

Reese has worked with the Children’s Defence Fund for many years, even before she was the star she is now. Why shouldn’t she use her status as a major star in order to raise awareness for the right causes? It brings attention to the issue.
If you did some research you’d understand that Reese chose to support CDF after reading the book, “The Measure of Our Success” during her time at university, all those years ago. It seems unlikely that her motives are a “photo op”. I’d also like to know how you came to the conclusion that Reese is racist?
I have no problem whatsoever with anyone being helped by whomever has the time/heart/desire to lend a hand, and if coming to the aid of another reaps rewards for the giver up and above what does a soul well, then by all means, let the blessings flow back to them pressed down and overflowing.
I find that those who take issue, are those who have issues usually are rooted in their own lack of doing for anyone else.
I say God bless Reese for helping when she didn’t have to, and unless anyone can do better, I suggest they say God bless Reese too.

Reese Witherspoon has been part of the Children’s Defense Fund for more than 5yrs, this is not her first trip to New Orleans and thank god for that. She is a board member of the organization and has been giving them money as well as lending her name to the cause for ages now. All the proceeds from her Elle Wood’s barbie doll went to this cause. The Victims of Katrina have been long forgotten by the public and if it wasn’t for the very few black & white celebrities who have made it their job to keep the children and people of N.O. front and center everyone will forget. She is stepping up to the plate for something she has supported and is a board member off for ages.
Shame on everyone, all children are equal and deserve the same treatment. Clearly Reese can and does see past color and knows that children cannot and should not be forgotten, requardless of their race or social standing.
Here is the link to the Children’s Defense Fund, which Reese is on the board of and has been for a long time. As a result of her name and appearence on A.I. gives back, these children will receive millions of dollars. You can knock her all you want, the fact is that she is doing something to help those children and support them and she has been doing it for sometime now.
She would like to appear. I hate when the prominent would like to show yourself with serious things. There are the normal films for this kind of things or when they would like to show yourself more they can go to pornography films !. It isn’t enough to show her butt face in several social activities. He can’t help nobody.!
Beautifull is what the old actor Karlheinz Böhm son of conductor of Vienna orquestra Karl Böhm. He dedicate all his money to help the SOS Kinderdorf in Africa. He work for a caritative organization to help the people not show his face and the name of his father to help the africans. He go there and he ask the people what they wan and what they needt! He is a real aristocrat. He don’t have afraid of poverty because he has a diamont in place of his heart.
