Wentworth Miller Fans for Charity

The fans of Prison Break star Wentworth Miller are joining together to raise money in Wentworth’s name for the children’s charity, UNICEF.

Wentworth, 35, has given this project his full blessing: “It’s my privilege to be a part of the entertainment business, an industry that has reached out to and touched the lives of billions of people around the world. It gives me tremendous pleasure to think that many of those same people have been motivated to reach out to others in turn. This charitable effort was conceived, organized and executed by a group of generous fans willing to donate their time and energies to a worthy cause. I’m honored to participate in this process, and I thank you for doing the same.”

And if you’ve been sleeping under a rock, FOX recently renewed Prison Break for a fourth season, ordering a full 22 episodes. Production this time around will be in Los Angeles.

Went’s fans started this project, and he supports our efforts. It is not a publicity stunt. It is a way for fans everywhere to honor him and to help children at the same time.

As one of the participants in this campaign, I’m quite proud to say that our Wentworth fansite in Taiwan has some connection with that. We do this absolutely for the worthy cause and hope anyone who cares about children will generously take part in it.

i think the motivation of donation is not important.
the important thing is we are thinking children in the world.
and i thank went for that he and his fans give me a chance to do it.
and please don’t think in different way.

I wonder how much he’s making per episode of his tv series. Must be several thousand dollars per episode. $5000 is ridiculously little when you think of that.

It’s the usual case. Fans give money, the celebrity gets the credit.

Cheekychick - It is non of anyones business what he makes per episode. $5000 is a lot of money and very generous of him. This was started by his fans. He didn’t have to do anything but he did. And you have obviously read the letter of the site so you would have seen that he is very proud of his fans for this. The organizers have done a great job and Wentworth, being the beautiful person that his is, I am sure will remind the press and media that the fans were behind this. I remind you of his quote:

Yes, this is exactly what his fans want. And believe me there are people who’d love to pay in some way to show him respect and admiration for his hard work and goodness. This project is calling out for these people, giving them a opportunity to do so in a constructive way.

It is time that people open the eyes and realizes that nowadays in 2008(in this materialistic time), children still suffer all over the world.

And the minimum which we can do for them and for our future… is to DONATE!!!

If we all did a little effort…things can change!!
It is with small thing that we can achieve large thing…Just think about it!!

So I’m glad to join this UNICEF project first for the children and then for me.

PS: I’m really proud to be a Wentworth Miller fan!!!!

Good idea to “use” Unicef. Here in Germany they have lost credibiliy recently due to mismanagment and illuse of donations.
It might increase their standing again and focus on the reason, why Unicef is existing.
As for Mr. Miller, I have the impression he was “dragged” into this by his fans- but I am sure he will do his best (as ever) and time given reconsider the amount he is donating.
Maybe he shoud do it like Scarlett Johanson- and offer a date…
To bad I am too shy, cause for 5.000 Dollar (current course and consiering the fact you can use it for the incometax) I might try to bet…
Ok-lets get back to work and get realistic

Got “dragged” into it by his fans? Is there anything he’s actually said anywhere that would indicate this? His statements in his letter and on the site look very positive to me.

Of course this is great publicity for him, but really, who the hell cares as long as the children who really need the help benefit? His fans wanted to do it and (according to his words) he wanted to be part of it.

And from what I can gather, UNICEF was chosen as it’s a big international charity likely to appeal across his worldwide fanbase, and so far everyone seems to be happy with the choice.

Let’s all think about the good something like this can do, and not pick it apart!

Hello..This is EXACTLY why 99% of the reason celebrities have their name connected to a charity. The 1% who is absolutely sincere is Jerry Lewis. Who has run his charity fund-raising telethons for the Muscular Dystrophy Association for what seems like a century.

It’s he best form of publicity because it doesn’t appear like a stunt.
And it guarantees a whole bunch of delusional fan girls will donate their piggy banks for a chance encounter to meet Wentworth Miller!

no choice but to back it.

Worthy cause though, kudos to the fans for doing this and Went for backing it and contribute to it.

The sky should be the limit when contributing to kids’ causes!

Went, the Queen, my mother or my dog WHO CARES, children are dying, “donate to save a child” is it sooooooooo complicated to underdstand? Damn, SO once again this is an idea of went’s fans ” WENTWORTH FANS FOR CHARITY” you guys can’t read or what?? We will give money, sincere or not, that’s not the question. So please stop for a minute, UNICEF is using Went’s popularity to gain money so what’s the matter with that!! Don’t you see it’s for a good cause?
