Thomas Beatie and his wife Nancy are a happily married couple and are expecting their first child. But it’s the husband, Thomas, who’s pregnant.
Despite having his gender changed from female to male, Thomas, 34, kept his female sex organs intact because he hoped to have a child some day.
“I actually opted not to do anything to my reproductive organs because I wanted to have a child one day. I see pregnancy as a process and it doesn’t define who I am,” Thomas told Oprah. “I feel it’s not a male or female desire to have a child. It’s a human need. I’m a person and I have the right to have a biological child.”

this is really all crazy and he isnt a man pregnant and i dont know why they keep saying he is.
I, too, was confused and curious when I first heard about this story, but having watched the interview on Oprah, I have a completely new perspective. This is a couple, completely in love, and a person who identifies, acts, speaks completely as a man. Had I not known he was born a woman, I would have never questioned it. Surprisingly, they seem like a very normal family that wanted to expand their family. The wife had a hysterectomy leaving the childbearing to the husband. Before you judge, I suggest you watch the clips. While it is a deviance from the norm, these people are just that, PEOPLE, who are very excited about their new baby. There are much worse situations babies are born into everyday, this baby is going to have two capable parents who wanted her and will love her. What’s so wrong with that?

I’m assuming this person is not a hermaphrodite (having male AND female organs). If his wife is female, the only way he could be pregnant is by artificial insemination. He obviously was born female with female reproductive organs. I’ve said it before, the world has truly gone mad. Hmmm wonder what he will tell his child about his conception and birth. All i can say, I’d hate to be this kid. Children have enough problems without be a product of a mommy/daddy. I can hear the jokes coming already. Damn, my head hurts thinking about it.

Seems like he should be taking care of them and helping them accept the difference between their family and most others rather than worrying about a new baby. It seems like just a publicity stunt to get themselves on T.V. and in books. They say the baby will have everything possible, but they should give that loving treatment to the children already in their lives and not drag them under a magnifying glass.
I don’t understand why she made herself a man and then got pregnant. Honestly, I really don’t know what to say. Sorry, but men do not look beautiful when pregnant.
It’s not really a man. She’s still a woman with female reproductive organs/plumbing. She had her breasts removed and takes testosterone, and so she has the facial hair growth.—–I agree that it is misleading, because it’s actually a transvestite woman having a baby. NOT a man.

She started off telling the audience about this pregnant “man” for maximum hype, and of course it was revealed later this “man” wasnt exactly born one.
To see pictures of Thomas when he/she was Tracy was equally shocking as Tracy was a beautiful woman.
Oprah is turning into the TV version of the National Enquirer. I think this episode would have made Jerry Springer blush.
And to have the two daughters on by a previous marriage who are adults means that Nancy must be at least 40. Why did she and her “husband” need to have a child?

There are so many unconventional types of relationships that bring children into this world. Luckily enough this couple seems like they’ll provide enough love and support for their child. There are so many other babies born into less fortunate situations.
I’m a pretty open person, I respect people and the way they live their life.
Hope life gets better for the couple!
I think its fine. Its their life. They’re truly in love with each other for who they are, and I don’t feel sorry for the child; he or she will grow up learning that there are no limits to love. Who I do feel sorry for are the people who won’t accept this family.
I agree with tessa #72, I hope life gets better for this couple. I understand this is completely new to people, but who’s to judge?
This is not the first man ever to have a baby. But a woman who has altered her looks to look like a man and is now having a baby.
