Ashley Olsen… SMILING!

Ashley Olsen… SMILING!

Looking genuinely happy, Ashley Olsen flashes a rare smile before hopping into her Mercedes SUV in Los Angeles on Thursday.

After noticing paparazzi, Ash quickly covered her face and bolted for her car.

FYI: Ashley and twin sister Mary-Kate started their second fashion line called Elizabeth & James, named after their siblings. Their first high-fashion couture line was called The Row.

The Elizabeth and James Spring/Summer 2008 collection can be found at Ron Herman, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Holt Renfrew (Canada) outlets.

i didn’t know that was their line. a couple months ago i was in neimans & a girl was buying one of their t shirts & the sales associate said the shirts were really popular. i had never heard of the line before. i was at saks yesterday & one of their t shirts was at the counter. i spend a lot of money on my clothes & live in my lna t shirts which aren’t cheap. however, i didn’t get the $90 price tag on the elizabeth & James big oversized shirt with a snap in front so it kind of cinches. the fabric didn’t even look that great. maybe it looks cute on. still pricy.

THEY DO HAVE A STYLIST, AND I LOVE A LOT OF WHAT ASHLEY OLSEN WEARS, HER SUNGLASSES ARE FANTASTIC

that jacket is awesome and it’s good to see her smiling

that is a beautiful smile , i like her a lot.

Just so you know, The Row is not Haute Couture. You should learn what haute couture really means… it’s not just high end but involves particular sewing techniques all done by hand. It also needs to fulfill many other requirements set by the Chambre de commerce et d’industrie de Paris. The Row does not use HC techniques nor is it a a member of the Chambre de commerce et d’industrie de Paris. It’s just their higher priced line. Just so you know.

She’s also wearing something decent for once. Ashley…is that you?

Love them! Ashley probably smiles a lot more when the paps aren’t around.

Glad she’s learning how to design — she’s been wanting to do that for a long time. MK is more into performing, Ashley into fashion.

OMG- she looks like an entirely different person smiling!! And that’s a good thing!! Now she just has to work on her bag-lady wardrobe….but she looks good here!

The Row is not couture. It’s pret-a-porter, i.e. ready-to-wear.

Couture is short for haute couture and is a trademark of La Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, which controls who is allowed to call their collection ‘haute couture’. Chanel, for example, has a pret-a-porter line and an haute couture line, as do Dior, Givenchy, Lacroix and Gaultier. Other current couture houses are Armani Prive, Elie Saab, Alexis Mabille, Anne Valerie Hash, Boudicca, Cathy Pill, Gardem, Maison Martin Margiela, On Aura Tout Vu, Valentino. And that’s it until next season.

Once a client purchases an haute couture garment, it will be tailor made to her and never reproduced for anyone ever again. Pret-a-porter is mass-produced and sold off the rack.

The Row has nothing to do with haute couture, and the common use of this term from non-fashion people is a complete misconception. Unless it’s registered with the Syndicale, it’s not couture. Also, The Row is shown at New York Fashion Week, which is a pret-a-porter week. The haute couture fashion week takes place in Paris, and you are only allowed to show couture in Paris.

The Row is extraordinary but it’s very much a pret-a-porter thing. If people want to talk about fashion, they should read up on it first and know what they’re talking about. Labels like Gucci, Fendi, Prada, Versace and Balenciaga are NOT haute couture labels, nor do their respective designers wish for them to be.

Pret-a-porter is very respected, but haute couture is something extremely rare and luxurious, and the term is not meant to be thrown around and attached to just any label.

I wish people would understand this.
