George Clooney: I Am Not the Godfather
George Clooney is denying reports he will be the godfather to his pal Brad Pitt’s fifth child with Angelina Jolie.
Recently, Clooney reportedly joked to paparazzi outside a Los Angeles restaurant that he had been asked by the celebrity couple to be godfather to their child.
Clooney’s rep made a clarification and said that the Leatherheads star was only joking. “He was just having a joke,” said the rep.
Leatherheads made around $13.5 million in ticket sales in its opening weekend, failing to meet expectations of $16 million set by the studio.

Thanks JJ. Now I have 3 threads to catch up on.
I can’t believe news sources were using paparazzi for sources in the first place.
George is everywhere nowadays. Too much publicity is not a good thing!!!!!! Looks what happened to his movie LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice seeing these three….
Why does he even feel it necessary to respond to stupidity? He needs to take a page out of Angelina and Brad’s playbook. Otherwise it just looks like he’s using the Brangelina baby to try and deflect attention from the galpal’s exploits.
IS THIS CONSIDERED A BRAD THREAD?
I DON’T KNOW WHERE TO POST!
yeah but he looks like he could play one in the movies. LOL
i knew he was kidding as soon as i read the quote from the paps
they asked clooney, “are you the godfather?”
and he said, “yes, i am”
OBVIOUSLY he was just joking!
Amy Winehouse Giorgio Armani Gig ($1 MILLION)! George Clooney and Julia Roberts offer Winehouse Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Celebrity May Gala
The list of who wants Amy Winehouse is growing. If you thought the Louis Vuitton show during Paris fashion week LALATE told you about was big, wait til you hear this one we have for you.
LALATE can now tell you that Giorgio Armani, host of the biggest social event the spring, has asked his co-chairs George Clooney and Julia Roberts to get Amy for $1 million!
The event is the celebrity smash gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute, New York, on May 5.
AWWWWW, THAT SUCKS!

Clooney is Not Kidman’s Baby’s Godfather:
There were reports last week that Nicole Kidman had asked George to be the Godfather of her child but Clooney’s rep says, “They are friends, but George was not asked to be the godfather.”
Its a shame about Leatherheads! I thought it looked quite good =]
wtf ,this is not a Brad thread, it is a george thread. I am back to Brad thread.
I have noticed at Blockbuster’s lately that George Clooneys latest movie is just sitting on the shelf-no takers! All that joking and laughing isn’t this how Tom Cruise started his down fall? And George, you could take some acting lessons from Mr. Heston films, instead of bashing him…shame on you!
George’s ex was much prettier than his current one.
Do their other kids have godparents?!
Clooney = Mr. Box Office prison
yahh…. I love his pay attenend joke to reporter…. Good joker person LOL
I know that this guy likes to talk, but I don’t think I am gonna believe what comes out of George’s mouth, unless I will want to.
Who thought he was anyway?!

clooney is an artist. he’s really a good writer and can really direct. If I were and up and coming actor/actress, I would try to cozy up to him. he’s connected up the ying yang and can get dumb movies greenlit. dont hate the playa hate the game.
I still wonder why he was the “sexiest man alive” once or twice. Not a fan of his facial features.
Can he be my godfather?
George Clooney Julia Roberts Amy Winehouse Performance Invitation $1 Million: Amy Winehouse Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Performance $1 Million
George Clooney and Julia Roberts have tapped twenty-four year old Grammy winner Amy Winehouse for a $1 million performance at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute 2008 Spring exhibit on superhero fashion. The May 5th benefit gala, to be chaired by legendary designer Giorgio Armani, with George, Julia, and Vogue editor Anna Wintour sitting in as co-chairs, will feature more than seventy costumes and couture designs from the virtual world of supernatural fashions.
“Amy was taken a back when she learned that Clooney and Roberts were after her….She hasn’t really taken it in - and keeps saying that her life is getting more surreal by the second.”
“After the Grammys, it was expected Amy would be in demand. Clooney and Roberts’ reps have been phoning her offices and sending dozens of emails to convince her to take part. She’s seriously considering their generous offer.”
“Giorgio has made no secret to his friends that he would love to work with Amy. He sees this party as an ideal opportunity to sound her out about future projects together.”
HE NEEDS TO STOP TALKING ABOUT BRANGELINA EVERYWHERE HE GOES.
He’s the Cary Grant of our times and that’s saying a lot.
People magazine : Clooney not sexy.
Time magazine : Clooney can’t act.
Porgie probably made the story up to drum up some interest in his new dud of a movie. He knew darned good and well the razzi were going to report what he said. He could have said at the time that he was joking, but it kept his name in the news for a few days, “…and by the way, I have a new movie coming out on April 4!” That’s what famewh#re’s do and Porgie is nothing if not a first class famewh#re.
OMG PT you better hide yourself when the promotions for Burn After Reading start because you obviously can’t handle George just being himslef. You are gonna go bat chit caca when you see the both of them promoting the movie. You will be seeing and hearing all kinds of real and imagined things.from George.
I meant himself.

At least someone still believes in god. Unlike the rest of the scientology crew. What do these children of science have? Bill Nye the science-father?

If your IQ is over 60 it’s always pretty obvious when he’s answering in a sarcastic tone.
And the movie was actually good. The only reason it didn’t attract much of the 30 and below crowd is nothing blew up, got chased through the woods by something trying to kill it, it didn’t have an explicit sex scene, or someone having to remove their own limb with a power tool.
God forbid anyone know and appreciate the classics like Bringing Up Baby or His Girl Friday.
It was obvious he was joking. I don’t see anything wrong with George being George and I’m not going to dissect and find “motives” behind everything
thanks for the new thread, jj! :D
but I don’t think the kids have god-parents; considering they’re not catholic…I know the JP’s chose many religions to introduce to their children; not just catholicism/christianity.
They prob. think of him as Uncle George :)
Thanks JJ. I’m a GC fan and it’s cool how he, BP, MD and DC all enjoy what in my opinion is a genuine friendship amongst themselves. I pat them all on the backs for always willingly giving of their time & support to each others various humanitarian works, and I love the Rat Pack pt 2 offscreen/onscreen comraderie. I adore George’s dad more, but GC is up there lol.

At least George is class have a lot of sense of humour and is more intelligent than the idiot pitt Bull, something the bull doesn’t have and could never equal.
George is show business royalty.
His cousin Migeuel Ferrer isn’t too shabby either with his branch of the tree.
Have you guys been following the situation over at clooneystudio.com? such drama. To make it brief, she’s been running a beautiful and informative website for about 3 years then she said enough. In essence it seems like some seedy publications and gossip writers have been pilfering from her site with her not being credited. This is significant because George’s press agent had officially been sending that site exclusives, for the site only. It seems like a lot of nastiness went down behind the scences with these news organizations in addition to her just being paint tired. That site was not her source of income, it was hobby. Sounds like jealousy to me on the part of other bloggers and catty gossip hounds.. She said nothing will change her mind about reopening/updating the site.
Somebody Has to Be in Control
The effort behind George Clooney’s effortless charm.
by Ian Parker
April 14, 2008
George Clooney was at home in Los Angeles one afternoon in mid-January, a few days before he flew to Sudan in his new role as a United Nations “Messenger of Peace” (an appointment that overlooked reports of a recent public scuffle with Fabio, the leonine model). Clooney, who is unusual in being both very famous and, apparently, at ease with the fact—he can sometimes look like a spokesman for celebrity itself—was sitting on a long pale sofa, alongside Sarah Larson, his girlfriend.
His manner—nonchalance underpinned, it seemed, by vigilance and self-scrutiny—carried the suggestion that almost any divergence from banter was unforgivable artsy narcissism.
This is probably the performance for which Clooney, now forty-six, is still best known, even as he has become a Hollywood emperor, not to mention a left-leaning activist and a friend of Senator Barack Obama’s. Clooney is America’s national flirt, a pitchman on talk shows and red carpets who, against the background hum of the world’s lust and envy, is lightly ironic, clever, and self-deprecating, with furrowed brow and bobbing head, and a gyration in the lower jaw suggesting something being moved around under his tongue.
Clooney is one of a very small group of people who, when asked to consider the most satisfying parts of their lives, begin to describe business meetings: “Sitting in a room with a bunch of people who don’t want to make a film that you know is the right film to make. You’ll say, ‘You guys are going to hate this.’ I never thought I’d be in a position to say to someone, ‘I know you don’t want to make this movie, but if I’m doing it for free I can get it done somewhere.’ ” One can imagine the avidity with which Clooney began a career in film directing. He said to me that directing was “a thousand times” as satisfying as acting; “I consider my life as being a director.”

The last word from http://www.clooneystudio.com was that she was working on something and the site wasn’t closed down indefinitely. Maybe you should e-mail her before you start spreading things, she’s good with responding to fans. I do miss the site, it was excellent. The funny thing is she always included links or sources to where she received the information, she just wanted everyone to do the same. Maybe she is waiting for George Clooney to come to his senses and get rid of the problem girlfriend, then there will be less gossip mags stealing info or coming there for info.
I think Clooney’s jokes are getting stale!
I still think George is quite the man. He’s obviously aging but I think that has more to do with his health problems which really take their toll. Still, he can pull it together and look gorgeous.
I enjoy his sense of humor and manner while acknowledging that he’s far from perfect. But I think he has a decent heart and he seems to be trying to handle his celebrity with a certain amount of grace and humor. So he falls flat sometimes, at least he’s in the game.
Unfortunately, every clip or promo for Leatherheads that I’ve seen looks awful. Downright embarrassing. I kept thinking is this the BEST of the movie? Yikes. I was sort of looking forward to seeing it at least on DVD, so glad to hear someone enjoyed it. I hated Brother Where Art Thou (whatever its title). Just hated it.
As for his women - who cares? Not my problem. I don’t see a gun at either of their heads.
Interesting “hey fans” I am a regular at all the Clooney sites and I never heard the behind the scenes chatter. What is your source of information? I understand Clooneystudio closed her site down for lack of time to commit to it. As sad as we were to see it go, we respected her decision and wish her well.
Thanks for the new George thread Jared. I saw the video where George answered the paps question about being the new baby’s God parent. It is funny to me anyone is making a big deal about it. Looked like George gapped off his question and responded just to shut him up. :-)
I can’t imagine the Jolie/Pitts would need God parents for their children. If they don’t believe in marriage, can’t imagine Christening their child would be high priority to either of them.
God parents are in place so if anything happens to the parents, the God parents would step forward, I can’t imagine George with 5 children suddenly. Hopefully if the Jolie/Pitt’s do have God parents, they will choose the members of Brad’s family over their celebrity friends.
Darn! I think he would do a good job!!!
Please go to http://www.pastryshoescollection.com/pastryshoescollectioncom-fashion-contestants/ and vote for my friend #10 BryeNicole. She is the 2nd photo
Thanks!!
thank goodness!
Angelina has talked about Maddox’ s godmothers but I don’t know abut the rest of the kids.
tiger #44 “Godparent ” is not a legally recognized relationship in any of the United States. It is strictly an honorary position. If you want your children’s godparents to raise them after you’re gone you have to put it in a legal will.
oi leaderbrain thread!
haha yes I know Nonny Mouse. But, thanks for the legal tip.
although he’s very talented and hot as hell, I can’t seem to like him,
I don’t know why…
something feels off.
I hope I’m wrong.
His girlfriend is being exposed to many humiliations—he’s silent. He doesn’t say “F*CK OFF, she’ my love”
BUT when he’s exposed to a gossip where he’s talked about as the godfather of Brad and Angie’s child, he immediately responds :
“No, I’m not the Godfather”
WTF are you talking about Clooney?
PS: excuse the typos, I’m tipys tonite and English is my second language :)

Why does he even feel it necessary to respond to stupidity? He needs to take a page out of Angelina and Brad’s playbook. Otherwise it just looks like he’s using the Brangelina baby to try and deflect attention from the galpal’s exploits.
______________________________________________________
I agree. I would like for him to stick to his life and leave these people alone. He mentions them so much Brad and Angie’s ears must be burning all the time (old superstition that when people talk about you, your ears burn or itch) smile Geez if he was the Godfather he would never stop talking, as it is he brings them up constantly. Hope he never becomes a godfather to any of their children.
Trust me I do love George, but I wish he would stop riding Brad’s coat tail, He has a nice gig of his own.
Its a joke people!

Well said,
With regards to George Clooney’s acting chops he is an Academy Award and Golden Globe Award-winning American actor, a director, producer, and screenwriter. Not too shabby . . .
He is also and out spoken social activist and environmentalist, an in 2007 he and fellow actor Don Cheadle were presented with the Summit Peace Award by the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates at the 8th Annual Summit of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates in Rome.
Also, George has been extremely active in advocating a resolution of the tragic Darfur conflict. Not only has he visited the devastated and dangerous area, he has also spoken out on Oprah and was a speaker at the Save Darfur rally in Washington, D.C. In 2006 because of his tireless humanitarian work he was named by the United Nations in January of 2008 as a “Messenger of Peace”
His latest movie Leather Heads was a clever movie, entertaining and well done. . . not some shoot’em, kill’ em, sex-dripping, mindless bloodbath. I enjoyed it ~
But with all his outstanding qualities and accomplishments. . . .George does seems to have constant bad taste in women. . .

nobody –
ok.
let’s say I AM not talking about his accomplishments right now. This is about somethng else.. Dig it?
I say good for him….
But as much as I can see, he’s not as smart as he seems.
I’ve got MANY other things to say about him..
But I’ll keep silent..
For now.
LOL.
*Hides face in shame because her loverman does not know when to shut up*
Why…GC why do you insist on giving people all the ammo they need to use against you?!!!!
A’ight PT…go ahead, i totally wash my hands off him. Oh who am i kidding…he’s in my blood like a bad virus. Guess, we’ll just keep the status quo, where you keep insulting him and I pretend you are showering him with praises. Hey have I told you that everytime I see the word Porgie, it reads Hunk to me?
You know george has been though a lot healthwise the past couple of years not including the motorcycle accident. He’s had problems recently recently with his teeth (that’s why they looked so brown) where he explained the almost medieval way they pulled out one of his tooth. He has an implant in that tooth and it’s been hel* for him painwise. I actually think living in Italy does wonders for him and is a place where he can recharge his batteries..
BBL,
you “brangelina” fans are weirdos. “he sould take a page out of brangelinas notebook” and “he needs to quit talking about them everywhere he goes” ?? lol. you guys are really weird. I am not a fan of either party, idk why im even reading this.. Just thought Id point out that those people are super odd.

OH WELLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!
thanks for the good intentions ha??
BB L,
god knows if I ever want to be on this thread again.
I AIN’T NO MONEY MACHINE FOR FOR THIS CLOONEY GUY!!!
I truly admire George Clooney for all his work for Darfur. And his acting HAS won him many awards. He is handsome and funny and seems uneffected by alot of Hollywood’s shallowness. But I have to agree his taste in woman is pretty shakey. This last bimbo is almost young enough to be his daughter and it makes him look like the creepy old uncle at the family reunion that keeps eye-balling and hanging around all the young girls.
Just so people will know, you can’t bequeath your children to people in your will. They are not property. You can and should make known your wishes in your wills. A court would certainly consider those wishes especially if you explain the reasons for your decision. But it is the court in the end that grants custody and that decision is supposed to be determined by what is in the best interests of the child(ren).
As far as George’s choice in women that is just personal and there is no explaining why people like who they do. Perhaps as you get older you will appreciate how age has no place in the consideration of whom you love. I have been in long term relationships with partners way older and way younger. The love and commitment was not diminished in any way by an age difference. If you think about it, breaking the tired old age barrier opens up a whole other world of possibilities for you. That’s a wonderful prospect.

He got all this but was stump and unable to carry on in a UN press release. I can’t believe a man who is THAT accomplish had nothing..quickly…to say..and aboivd an embarrasing moment but to turn to the*same old same old* card - Brad Pitt this and Brad Pitt that…in the UN press release.
UN people…imagine that!
I mean talk about someone who does not know why he IS even there if all he got was to resort to hisd olde tired game of Brad Pitt this and Brad Pitt that…
No wonder some of the diplomats i.e. French and Russian made it known that they wanted nothing to do with him…and this was WAY BEFORE his press conference.

Let us go back to one of his Hollywood friendsL
Brad Pitt on Clonney - “he is good at playing the Hollywood game”
What Brad is saying is that…George is good at playing the game, presenting a certani image, saying this and that but when the going get tough or when he is called on to say something that requires him to rely on his intelligent, know-how other than the manufactured Hollywood a la the UN meeting that he did last year - all of a sudden he does not know what to do and therefore goes back to his old ways…”Brad this Brad that”
Yup yup..that is the class, activist(cough cough) highly respected man in Hollywood ..until you look closely…
P.S I am not PT.
lookwhaticando @ 04/07/2008 at 7:43 pm Trust me I do love George, but I wish he would stop riding Brad’s coat tail, He has a nice gig of his own.
I promised myself I wouldnt get caught up in all this again and I won’t, but it bugs me when I read things like GC riding BP’s coattails simply because he mentions his friend. Damon does it also, and BP in turn brings them into conversations here and there by the same token. I’m just not getting and have never gotten why the major negative tude about the man when it comes to BP. It’s not like he speaks ill of him, or is tearing him down at every turn, or at ANY turn for that matter. George doesn’t need to ride Brad’s coattails anymore than Brad needs to ride his or Matt’s or Don’s. I’m not suggesting anyone doesn’t have a right to their opinion about him, or a negative one at that, I’m just puzzled by how one or two disliking the guy got turned into what now seems the anti George Clooney league.
JMO

and to think he is older that Brad and all he does is during his promotions, vacays, red carpets…is the same old sh**t
Brad this
Brad that
talk about a 50 year old coat-tail rider.
Btw, has he uttered the name Brad in the same sentence as his latest box office? Cause, he can’t blame Pitt for that….
I want to share this with you because it feels good knowing that somebody who herself is intelligent, famous, accomplished & regarded as a very good role model in the Philippines also looks up to Angelina Jolie.
Excerpts from Manila Bulletin, p. D-8, March 26, 2008:
Among celebrity men & women - who is sexy to you & why?
“…ANGELINA JOLIE. Intelligence, motherhood, an all-embracing compassion, big soulful eyes, and the most beautiful lips on any human.” — LEA SALONGA (Internationally acclaimed Filipino stage actress/singer who won a Tony, Laurence Olivier, Outer Critics Circle, Theater World, etc.)
Why, everytime somebody mentioned BP or AJ’s name has to be coat ridden?
Why, does it sound like blasphemy if somebody even has the idea of blaming them?
why, can we not be free from the thought of it is only a name? A friend’s name? It is neither mantra or magical spell?
Are our brains tuned on the BP/AJ note? Are our brains and feelings chained and sucked and can not get free of speaking?
This tall dark handsome man….may be not your type, he’s not mine either, but he is a free-spirit man, intelligent, having sense of humour, and making a hell of excellent films. BP….hmh…until I see him again playing just like in “Kalifornia”…I prefer to be silence………..

did you ever read the posts above?????????
Ok let me take a WILD guess!!!
georgi boy THINKS that he wants Angie
BUT
he might be lusting after Brad.
(I said MIGHT you sucka!)
It´s funny how people seem to believe that Brad and George are so close, when they really don´t talk or even hang around much outside of their job.
@ ha? #71
Yes, I read it. I also read the other 69 posts. Maybe I am wrong, but every time somebody said something that included BP or AJ, then some people always have the idea that this person used BP/AJ’s name for their own benefit. Well, may be the way I said confused you, pardon me Gentle Sir/Lady.
Just read the last 3 rows, then you know that I talked about Clooney. If in this thread somebody even talk about AJ’s plan for a godmother for Maddox, GC’s health, the way GC treated his girlfriends, the situation of a GC’s fansite, his last movie, well, I think I can talk about some reactions towards the usage of BP/AJ’s name. GC made a “joke” about being Godfather for BP/AJ future’s child/en, didn’t he? BP??AJ??? And the alarm went on….
@ha?
Please do not misunderstand me. I think for many people, BP/AJ is an inspiration (my inspiration is somebody else). I only think we -fan or no fan - shall be lightened up a little bit. Especially if the”news” is from tab. IF George can not even make a joke that has something to with BP/AJ, pure joke -bad or good - what it shall be? I thought, they were friends. Real Friendship can stand almost anything, can’t it?
Or, somebody named “Orchid” gave me a good advice: If a post annoyes you, just skip it. It works for me! (Thanks, Orchid!)
black @ 04/08/2008 at 5:20 am It´s funny how people seem to believe that Brad and George are so close, when they really don´t talk or even hang around much outside of their job.
All respects to you Black, but they are. Being under one another’s behinds at every turn doesn’t cancel out the fact that they are great friends. I live now, and grew up for the most part in a town that tends to report every move George and his family makes, every relationship he shares (romantic or not), and a town in which he is still very much involved with various people who sometimes one or more “by nature” sometimes talk to much about things like who George considers close personal friends. In and of itself, it’s not a big deal since you nor I know him on a personal level, that said, I do know those who do and I repeat, he and Brad as well as Matt and Don are more than professional comrades whether you or anyone accepts that or not.
jpf

the MSNBC story is NOT true.

I love George

Hey, I just found out his movie is landed in third place raking $12.7M, not as second place as previously reported. Nim’s island is now second place behind 21. Go to website rottentomato.com and find out.
Personally, I wait for it to come out video.
I just read that 11 page article on him!!! First of all who gets an 11 page article written about themselves? I guess George Clooney does. Facinating. It was like reading a book about him. I’m surpirsed no one has done so.
I got a better sense about who he is.
Basically he’s a old time Southern gentleman.
hmm. @ 04/07/2008 at 8:48 pm you “brangelina” fans are weirdos. “he sould take a page out of brangelinas notebook” and “he needs to quit talking about them everywhere he goes” ?? lol. you guys are really weird. ============
I think ur the one who is a weird because …. you said it yourself you’re not a fan and yet you’re on defense regarding clooney or maybe you’re a BIG LIAR and just ashamed to admit that you’re a Clooney fans YOU WIERDO!!!
from the new yorker article:
He then carefully made the point that none of his closest friends are movie stars. “There are people you spend a lot of time with, and people you enjoy seeing at the office party,” he said—the office party, in this context, being the Venice Film Festival. Speaking of his “Ocean’s” co-stars Brad Pitt and Matt Damon, he said, “Brad and I talk, and Matt and I talk, on a fairly regular basis—text each other, give each other ****.” But, he continued, “I have my friends, nine guys for twenty-five years; they’re the guys I see every Sunday.”
how he met his girlfriend:
Sarah Larson joined us. She is twenty-nine (or, as he later put it, “Her grandmother has posters of me”), and she first met Clooney three years ago, in Las Vegas, where she was working as a hostess at Gerber’s Whiskey Bar, but she has been a public part of his life only since last September, when she broke some toes, and Clooney a rib, in a motorcycle accident in New Jersey. “You can’t outrun paparazzi on crutches,” she later said. She still has a home in Vegas, but now spends a large part of her time with Clooney.
about theat voicemail message about Sarah:
The message was perhaps fan mail of a perverse kind, from a Clooney admirer in some way disappointed with Larson—for being young, or for being a non-celebrity and therefore an interloper. (There’s been some unpleasant press, and Larson brought it up with me: “They say that I’m a stripper. There’s a ton of stuff about that. I’ve never been a stripper. You know, just because I’m from Las Vegas I must be a stripper. Because I’m a cocktail server that means I’m an escort.”) Or it might have been a wrong number. Larson was not aghast, but she did not seem quite comfortable, either. Clooney, though, was punchy, seeming to accept the voicemail as no more than a test of his good humor: a chance to reconfirm his efficient, uncomplaining handling of the complications of a public life.
He is an awful and expressionless actor. I can’t remember even one film where his performance made a lasting impression. He is all looks without any substance or talent to go with it. He always makes sure there is a new opinionated little message out there so he’s not forgotten. I wish he would take his former escort girlfriend and just go away.

If Brad really made that statement he has the same, exact impression of Clooney that I have. He is hypocritical, fake and narcissistic. The only thing George Clooney fears and cares about is indifference, and being in the media constantly is what matters to him. Being ignored is his only fear. I thinks he comes across as a complete phony, and apparently Brad agrees. What matters most is the fact that he cannot act. He is a worthless actor with great looks.
By the way, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if George reads these threads. He probably has his own fake ID here, writing positive opinions about himself. lol
If there is one actor in Hollywood who would do such a thing it is he.
OMG he is still sexy! I want to marry him. Georgeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Hey trista, if that is how you feel, why are you here? You are an embarrassment if George would ever take the time to read here.
And just so you know, I disagree with you. George has an amazing charisma on and off screen.
Get lost if you don’t like George.
Why? I have a right to my opinion, and this is not his fan board, you know.
George Clooney is an attention seeking, hypocritical and superficial actor, with great looks. He is all appearance and no substance. Everything he does is for PR. He has never made a lasting impression or a good performance in any film he is in. He is a great example of a shallow, American Hollywood style actor, without depth, personal character, or talent. As Brad Pitt said, “He is good at playing the Hollywood game”. That says it all. Are you George, by the way? lol
He never made a lasting appearance in any movie? How did he recieve an Oscar?
It is to his benefit that he knows how to play the Hollywood game better then any other actor living in that fishbowl. So, why single out George? All of the actors and actresses in Hollywood are attention seeking, all about appearance and no substance media whores. Some of them even involve innocent children in that game. Honestly, how sad is that?
You say that he is “without depth, personal character, or talent.” . I have to wonder, how did he get so famous without depth, personal character, or talent? He must be a master at playing that Hollywood game to reach such super stardom.Speaks volumes about all of them who have gained such a level of fame.I bet that has a pretty high price tag on it. I wonder if it is worth selling your soul? They all sure like to present it as such.
Oh and am I George? Not last time I checked, I have all female body parts.Lay off the bong trista, it has made you paranoid.:-)
Agree with you, Tiger. I saw Clooney for a long time, already, since he played a detective in a tele-series. I can say he changes through the years. Except Ocean 11-12-13, his films mostly have something to say. Expressionless? Wow, Trista must have known better about acting skill than the Jury in Oscar Award.
BTW, why do they have to report how much a film earns? Are we watching an entertainment or a stock market report? Are they trying to tell us, that a well-earned film is always a good film, so we have to watch it?
If Brad Pitt really said that, maybe it was some kind of admiration to his pal, and not irony?
Hi rien. I have to admit, George in the Oceans is my all time favorite work for him. He was great in Solaris and IC but, something about Danny Ocean was too close to the man I believe him to be. The man I image him to be. Loyal and crafty. And he is obviously a crook the way he took over Hollywood. LOL
Tinsel Town never knew what hit them when George stepped into the light. It loved him so much, it stayed focused on him. Brad Pitt has the same charisma. The light loves him. So in return, whoever is on the arm of these two men will always reap of benefits of standing beside them.
Brad is shy in his fame, with that comes the women (actresses) he embraces always try to steal his light, make out like they are the brighter star. Makes me laugh a when it comes to Brad because I think he could careless who is more famous. With George, he is the man in control, no woman could steal his light even if they bent over and exposed their crotch. Opps, what am I saying, his latest gal has done that. LOL
Still in his shadow, poor thang, you just gotta feel sorry for her.heehee
Tiger @ 12:33pm,
I agree with most of what you said but Angelina is the only one he’s been with that was already an A-list actress starring in her own successful movies (lara Croft etc..). George’s hook-up with Sarah is sort of like pretty woman , only sara is a ****-tail waitress and not a hooker. At least I think she’s not a hooker.
Hi Loveforfour. I don’t play video games so I don’t really know anything about Angelina or Lora Croft. If you say that makes her A list, I will take your word for it. I didn’t know the first thing about her until she hooked up with Brad. But, I must admit, I was so very tired of seeing JA’s face on every magazine cover. She was replaced by Angelina’s face after Brad hooked up with her, and to be completely honest, I am tired of seeing her face now too.
I remember back when he was with Gwennie, it was the same thing, she was everywhere. But, it really got weird when those two started to look alike with the same hairstyle and all. Imagine what would of happened if they had been married. Too scary to image.
On the other hand, I never really get tired of looking at George so I am thrilled his women don’t over shadow him. Funny, not even Julia could over shadow George and she is A list without a doubt and without a super star celebrity man on her arm. I guess she is the real Pretty Woman. George’s new gal could take a lesson or two from Julia and realize that George will always be the “center of attention” no matter who is on his arm.:-)
There is a picture of him on AOL’s entertainment page where he has a scruffy beard and a black tux on. Man oh man, I kid you you not, I about melted right out of my chair. So very fine.
To Tiger,
Angelina won an oscar, golden globe and many awards before ever co-starring with Brad in Mr and Mrs Smith. She had a successful career before meeting Brad. GP only won an oscar award for Shakespeare in Love after her break-up with Brad. Angie was already rich and equally well known as Brad. With Angie, Brad does’nt have to worry about being used because she was very well known before they got together. Her Lara craft movies were blockbusters. I only started watching Brad’s movies big-time after he got with Angie and was facinated by their stunning beauty. Like someone on VH1 said, “their beauty combined is so great it would set the world on fire” This is an exageration of course. It’s so funny because I can imagine these two mesmerized by each other’s outer and inner beauty.
@tiger
I think that is a man’s problem ;-)! If “the” woman steals the light, “the” man starts to be insecure…….But again, it depends on who the man is. Brad Pitt is a magnet for the camera. He can stay away from the water for weeks, still he looks good (I do not talk about the smell….). Since, not like GC, Pitt had only one woman (at time…sometimes it was too long…) we have to stand to see her face. JA is a very “special” case, because she did not change her style for many a time….GP is natural….too natural sometimes (I complain too much, I know). And then come AJ. The “fight” between JA and AJ…then..tuh, you have to stand “two faces” at once…
GC is different. He has a lot of women.Sometimes I think it is some kind of symbol of achievement, if you know what I mean… You will have no chance to see “a woman” in a long time. The last woman, if she makes him happy, I do not really bother what kind of Job she has. It is a job. It does not influence her character or love.
I read for quite some time, George was jealous with Danny. He called him “Julia’s cameraman” for quite a while. Why? Jealousy? Insecurity? Arrogance? If GC and JR were not only friend…what do you think would happen?
@Loveforfour
I watch Brad’s films for a long time. I stop watching them since Troy. I am a huge fan of Homer, and this film raped Homer’s book. I still can not forgive him. The last film (Jesse James) was tempting. But I saw the one with Henry Fonda already. So, I pass this film too.
And beauty is not my qualification for a good actor/actress. AJ is a good actress and I still watch her films…the changing performance in AMH is just amazing…and then she will be with James…(sigh)
Rien I think that is the point with George. I don’t believe he wants share his bright light of fame with anyone. He knows these common romances he has won’t amount to anything. And he gets the plug for making her famous. Interesting in Tinsel Town how you really don’t need any talent to be famous. It is all about appearence.
And loveforfour. I will agree that Brad and Angie make a spectacular looking couple. I hope they don’t set the world on fire because that would give evil the upper hand. But, I doubt that is their goal for this world. At least I hope not.
Of course they are mesmerized by one another. It is always about appearence for all of these celebrities. Could you ever imagine Brad or George with an unattractive woman? Could you picture Angie with a unattractive man? It wouldn’t fit in with their public image so of course appearence matters a great deal to all of them. I don’t know if that has anything to do with talent. I think talent is all in the eyes of the beholder. Angelina Jolie’s movies have never impressed me. For that matter George’s movies are too political to me at times. Brad had a run of movies that I enjoyed but since hooking up with Angelina, his private life completely over shadows all of his work in my opinion.
Bottomline is, when it comes to these celebrities, unless you have a huge bank account or a perfect face and body, I doubt any of them would give anyone who is a part of the general public the time of day. As long as they entertain with the drama in their private lives and dazzle the public with their beauty the public will buy into the image they are selling. Look at George’s new gal and the press she gets from sticking her ass in the air and showing off her female assets. She uses them to the full extent and honestly, I think George gets off on having men lust over his woman. He likes that playboy image. With Brad, he gets off on having the “it” girl in Hollywood on his arm. I doubt he would ever settle for anything less. Appearence is so very important to all of them, the women included.
@tiger
“Behind the phony tinsel of Hollywood lies the real tinsel,” Is this “The Tinsel Town” you mean?
That is why I love “actors/actresses” or even “directors” who can touch my heart with their works, such as: Ed Norton, Gary Oldman, Jude Law Helen Mirren, My beloved Anthony Minghella, Clint Eastwood, Glenn Close……
Clooney , his films give me reason to think. Not yet melts my heart though….
His personal life? Frankly my dear, I don;t give a damn!
And Brad Pitt, unless he plays just like in “12 Monkeys” or “Kalifornia”, I will give him a chance again (as if he cared!)
His Personal life? You know the answer already.
Which Ed Norton movie touched you rien?
I agree, Brad was great in Kalifornia. The one role I believe he should of won an Oscar for but, maybe it was too early in his career.
And rien, George didn’t melt your heart as Batman? I would go for a spin in the batmobile with him. “Fire up those engines Batman!!” I would be helpless to that ride!! :-)
Can you give me an easier question?
I do not have to see his face to know that King Baldwin IV (Kingdom of Heaven) is Edward! Did you hear the sadness in his voice? Did you see the embracing power of death in his blue eyes?
I cried when he hugged Ed Furlong in American History X.
I cried when he sang with David Morse in Down in the Valley
And thrilled by his anger in Primal Fear.
And I wanted to fly to Shanghai to hug him in Painted Veil
So again, can you give me an easier question?
So George? Okay, the car yes, but George? To be honest? Ah, better not honest……Eh..I dunno.
I haven’t seen Kingdom of Heaven yet. I have tried to watch it a couple of times, but, it is a movie that takes a specific mood for me to sit through it. I want to check it out, hopefully it will be on when I am in the mood to watch it. LOL
I saw American History X. Ed Norton as amazing in that one. Real emotion came through on both sides of his character. I love when an actor can portray that in a character. At the beginning of the movie, his hatred. Man, it was almost chilling to watch his character. He deserved an Oscar for that one in my opinion.
Primal Fear, another one where I stopped and noticed this talented actor. He was really good in that one too. I loved him with Brad Pitt in Fight Club as well. Those two had an amazing on screen chemistry. George and Brad did too. It would be interesting to see if George and Ed would have it. What do you think rien?
If you do watch the film, try to get the director’s cut. Even Orlando looked different!
I could really smash his face in American History X (If his eyes did not melt my heart first…). He could be hated with passion! But then, at the end I cried with him, understood the pain that he’s been going through….
Did I tell you the ones I despised so much? WORM! (ROUNDERS). God, how can somebody so low like that exist! And JACK TELLER (THE SCORE). Arrogant and cold. But, big but, he ate Robert De Niro alive!! De Niro looked so pale in this film.
Yes, I like The Fight Club, too. Brad Pitt looked good in this film. I would like to see George and Edward together. The screen will be busted out because of their magnetisms! For sure!
What I like about Edward is that he doesn’t have to be in the central of attention to get one. In Primal Fear, Gere had all the lines for himself. But there is a split moment, when Edward changed his character, the whole screen was stolen!
So, Tiger. I have to warn you. Knowing that George loves the attention, don’t be disappointed when “my Edward” steals the whole screen…quietly, or even secretly. And knowing Edward, he will have no mercy!!
You are right about Ed Norton, he blends in. That is a gift for sure. More so once they have achieved fame.
Has Ed Norton ever won an Oscar? I don’t follow his work close enough to know.
The ones who are the true talents are the ones who can blend in. They don’t need to feed off their private life to stay active in the Hollywood game. They use their talent to keep them there. So very interesting to watch from a distance. They hold onto fame so tight, the art of the craft is lost. And so is the talent. Bizarre to say the least!
Not that I know. He won Golden Globe for his role in Primal Fear. 2x nomination. I though Painted Veil was nominated, but I guess I was wrong. What a shame, Scorcesse won for a re-make film! I like the original one better.
The problem with Edward is, that he is a pain in the ass, so they say. I see it as an artist tries to keep his integrity. If you follow the wish of the producers all the time, by the end of your carrier you will not recognize yourself any more. I think Edward doesn’t want that. May be he does not make so many blockbuster, but hey, since it is a film, an art, then it does not have to be. Matrix was a blockbuster, but I fell a sleep in the middle of Matrix 3. With Edward, I was captured until the end.
I think you heard already, Edward plays the Hulk. What the Hulk is that? Oh, I believe it will be hulking awesome! You do not want to make Edward angry. You will not like it when he is angry…..I can not wait to see it!
Funny, I can remember Ed thanking the academy. Oh wait, maybe he was in character when he did that. :-)
No biggie, i think Hollywood puts more emphanise on winning that award than the general public does.
I have never heard that Edward is a pain in the ass. Hum, he is not easy to handle? I love a good challenge. lol Imagine the power one would have controlling the Hulk.I have always wonderd if all his body parts grow when he busts out of his clothes. :-)
I visit Nerd World from time to time. Surprised, surprised, I am one of Nerds. And you should read how “The Hulk” (Lev Grossman) complained about it. It is so hulking funny (stealing Grossman’s word).
I tell you, Tiger. Behind that fine brilliant actor, he is the biggest pain in the ass. Or should I say the other way around? Anyway, I love him. Not more than the way I am crazy about Jude Law, but I love him dearly. And if he doesn’t fight for his ideas, than it is not Edward whom I know.
I wonder if he will still have the clothes when he grows..o yeah, I want to see too…But hey, I think I saw every inch of him (except that Hulky thingy, what a pity), in Down In the Valley…
Ralph Fiennes once said, that award is like an applause, and every actor likes it. I think Oscar, BAFTA, or any other Awards is important for them. For me, I always believe in the actors themselves. For Directors, there are 5 directors that I will go to see their works without any complaints. Ridley Scott, My Beloved Anthony Minghella, David Cronenberg (for a Nerd, He is a must), Brian de Palma, Sidney Lumet. And one in process of liking, Clint Eastwood.
Tiger, this is what Edward said about making movies. I agree with him, and this is one of the reasons why his works touched my heart, deeply:
“If you try to make interesting films, you’re going to be disappointed most of the time. I choose just not to look at it that way. I don’t look at American History X as a failure, or Fight Club as a failure, or 25th Hour as a failure, or Larry Flynt as a failure, or any of the movies that I care about that I’ve made that were not immediately successful. I’ll stand with those movies any day over 90 percent of the movies that came out at the same time that made a hundred million dollars. I don’t think you could name half the movies that won Best Picture across those years. And all I’m saying is that you have to decide where you root your own taste. We revere those films that we revere now, but at the time, a lot of the mainstream critics totally dismissed Dr. Strangelove and The Graduate and Taxi Driver. They didn’t get it. Then that generation comes of age and takes over as the mainstream critics, and they get the chance to name their classics.”
(Sources: The A.V Club interview, 1, 30. 2007)
Were American History X and Fiht Club considered failures?
Was Ed Norton in Larry Flynt? I have seen that movie, I don’t remember him in it. What character did he play?
I agree with what he says there. He reminds me of Brad Pitt with his attitude about movie making. Ed might be a bit more direct in saying it, but I think this is the manner that Brad chooses his roles as well. A big part of why I enjoy his work so much and the amazing talent he is.
I compeletely agree about the awards. Your only as good as your last award. It always makes me laugh when celebrities are considered somehow “better” because they won the oscar. Nevermind it was 5 years ago. LOL
Far as I can say there are only a few actors that grow in their talent and usually it isn’t the ones with the awards. The outstanding talents don’t need awards to truly make a statement like all the rest of the puppets in Tinsel Town. :-)
They did not make box office, or not as much as the producers wished it would be. You must have heard that the director of American History X was extremely pissed about Edward, because he wanted more time screen. These two made good money in rental. Just like this film with Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman (something with Redemption).
Don’t tell me you missed him in Larry Flint?! He was the Lawyer! Oh, you should listen the way he defended Larry Flint! Ah, Edward! That is exactly his problem. He’s rarely known as Edward on film, he is the character. Just like Murnau (you have to know The Great Murnau. Tell me, please that you know him…) said, “They don’t need to act. They simply have to become.”
Did you watch 25th hours? It is a beautiful film, with Spike Lee as the director. Wow, the situation in New York after 9/11 was awful! Lee really has eyes for the soul of the street, doesn’t he?
Only curiosity, which actors do you mean? I would say: Gary Oldman, Sean Penn (It is worth to see him only for 2 second in Close Distant when he said: “My Father.” God, how I cried!), Edward Norton, Jude Law, Ralph Fiennes (he is a little bit too creepy these days), John Malkovich. Christian Bale, I put him on the line already (Did you see him in the Mechanist?). For the older generation,I would go to see Jimmy Stewart and Heston at any time. Oh, don’t forget Orson Welles.
I do sound like a IMDB, don’t I?
Which actors do I mean? Brad Pitt for one. He is the most impressive to me because he didn’t have any big name family members to help him along when he first showed up in Tinsel Town. He has lasted as a major talent as well as having his choice of movies that he wishes to make. I find that very attractive on him. I loved him in Babel. His look, everything. He is an actor who has matured and he has no problem exposing it through his craft.
Tom Cruise, another actor that you know, if he is in it, likely, it will be entertaining. Although his past choices are better compared to the movies I have seen him in lately.
I know people go on about Sean Penn being spectacular but, I am not drawn to his movies at all. The only movie I remember him in is the one where he was a stoner and he orders a pizza in class. :-)
Judd Law, I am sorry, I just don’t get it at all.
And rien, I don’t know what an IMDB is so i couldn’t answer if you sound like one.
Have Penn and Law ever won any major awards?
Aloha, Tiger!
Ha…ha…ha Spicoli, hah? I loved him in there. The most dude ever!
You see, when I watched Sean Penn, and I watched his film a lot, I never saw him. He became, just like what Murnau said.
Penn received an Oscar, and I think three or four nominations. If you have some kind of lust, watch “I am Sam”, or “Carlito’s Way.”
I am sorry about Cruise, I always see Cruise. I watch his films since The Last Unicorn. He can not act, in my eyes. Or in the Murnau’s words: he acts. That’s a mistake. Did you see Magnolia? Horrible with him. He forced himself there. The only film in which he was different was “Collateral damage.” But the rest, the French said: o la la.
Jude Law? He can change his accent, just like that. He’s always different in any film he’s in. I guess. being a beautiful man is hard sometimes. You are always judged by what you look like, and not what you do. Jude was nominated for Oscar twice, the rest you can check in IMDB. Come on, don’t nick me. You do know what IMDB is!
BTW, I saw Equus last night. With Richard Burton and Peter Firth. Do you know this film? Oh, strong! By Sidney Lumet, of course. I am curious how Radcliffe will perform it on stage. To be naked is easy, but Peter Firth’s nakedness was part of who he was, and not simply because he wanted to. I am not sure about Radcliffe (Harry Potter).
Well, I am not as broad as you are when it comes to movies. I don’t search them out, if I stubble upon them and they speak to me, that is how I relate to them. For the exception of Brad’s movies, and he is about the only actor that can get me into the threatre to watch his craft at work.
It will be interesting to see Sean Penn and Brad in their new movie. Maybe I will see for myself what the big deal is about with Sean Penn. Course, that is if their personal drama doesn’t over shadow the movie. I will be very curios to see these two in chatacter in the same movie. I have always felt that Sean couldn’t hold a candle to Brad even though Brad always went on about him as someone he respects and admires for his craft. We shall see if they share the chemistry Brad had with Ed Norton in Fight Club.
Jude Law. I still don’t get it, i don’t find him attractive at all. But, to be fair, I have never seen him in a movie. I just know that he screwed his nanny while his children were present and that is just unacceptable to me. I wouldn’t give his movies the time of day and contribute to making him any richer than he already is. That is just my honest opinion on that.
I hope you watched “Cold Mountain”. In this movie (Inman, he played), he rarely said words, but he was nominated as the best actor. For me it is some kind of sign that he was present in the whole film. He was the heart of the film.
BTW, about his nanny, I mean the nanny of his children (he has 4 children), I always said what I asked anybody who’s willing to listen when it comes about PPZ ” Why don’t they potatoes the ppz?!”
(Jude said” I throw raw vegetables at them” = You know why I am crazy about him. Even the words we use are the same, and I used it long time before I read about him).
And about their private life, of course we can go on and on, but the fact was that BP had something to do with AJ (and it is not “having conversation” that I am talking about) when he was still officially married. But hey, it is his life, as much as Jude’s life, and I don’t want to care. I always separate my feelings toward them as actors and as persons.
Until now, I refuse to see the films from Wolfgang Petersen, Eric Bana and Brad Pitt, because of Troy. Orlando I don’t care so much because he is still early in the business. Even then, I watched Kingdom of Heaven because of R. Scott and Edward. And Helen Krueger? Who cares!
PS: If you do want to watch other films from Sean Penn, try “21 grams”, “State of Grace (there you can watch Gary Oldman)”, and really, try to watch “At Close Range (that’s the correct title)”. The last title is his favorite, and mine.
You know what Eastwood said about Sean Penn: “Sean Penn’s problem is that he always plays good in each and every movies he’s in.”
Taken from Eastwood, I believe it.
It is good that you can separate what they do in their private life over what they do professionally. For me, that is what aggravates me the most with celebrity. Their personal drama always seems to over shadow their craft whether they believe it to be true or not.
I know what you are saying about Brad and Jolie, and I was very disappointed in him at the menner that he hooked up with dark girl when he was still a married man. I think she played a big part in that, playing it for all it was worth. Knowing that Brad wanted more than anything else to be a dad. She played on his weakness and he was fool enough for fall for it. But, that is all water under the bridge now.It did over shadow his work and still does, but I have hope that he will somehow rise above it because I believe he is a very talented actor. He doesn’t need all the drama in his private life to be successful. No matter how much the woman on his arm play it for all it is worth. If he would only believe it.
I haven’t seen Cold Mountain. I tried once to watch it, but honestly, there wasn’t anyone in it who could hold my attention. I know it won awards, but, that doesn’t mean crap to me either. Most times the awards they hand out are to movies that don’t speak to me at all. I don’t have much respect for the movies they choose as award winners. That is for them to feel elite, I don’t think the general public places that much stock in any of their choices as it is all about who can kiss ass the best to get the award.I believe the general public sees through all of that.
Oh, then you will not be able to enjoy the work of my beloved Anthony Minghella. I am still sad about him (he passed away recently). Forget about the others, see the works of my beloved Anthony. Close your eyes if it’s necessary. But then you will not be able to see the atmosphere that he built. Even London looked so amazingly beautiful (The Holidays).
Yes, Brad Pitt is a very talented actor. Oh, my cold cold heart! I wish I could simply say : sod it! Forget Troy! But Illias is one of my favorite books, and I can not do anything against it.
May be I will try Jesse James……ehhhh I have to swallow my pride, and it is a damn hard thing to do.
You know, if you really think about it, we do not know anything about them, except what the tabs write. Will we spoil our own fun because of it? We are not sheep, are we? Let the celebs dance naked on the middle of the street, so to speak, well..when it’s Jude then I don’t know how my reaction will be…., we simply go to the cinema, see what we like, and that’s it.
I loved Troy but then again rien, I like it when movies don’t follow structure and create the character from their own vision of what they want it to be. I adored the manner that Brad portrayed Achilles. I think he owned that character as no one else could of. I felt they did a good job showing the emotion of the era they were in. I am sorry it was a disappointment to you, but honestly, it expressed beautifully the depth of the war fought in Troy.
I know what you are saying about allowing them to ruin our fun with their private drama. But, I guess bottom line for me is, I work hard for my money, It is difficult for me to spend it padding their pocket if I don’t agree with their lifestyle. I feel I do have a choice and I do believe the manner that they behave in public is important to their craft. Same goes for anyone who lives a public life. Politicians are the worst. They are better actors than the actors in hollywood, although, the public is gaining wisdom as I believe they are beginning to see through their pathetic public performance.
Bottomline for me is, they need the public more than we need them. Entertainment is great when i find it, but, I can be entertained for free by spending time out in nature. So that is my salvation.
Love chatting with you btw. Your passion comes through loud and clear in your words, and if I can add, it is enlightening to me. :-)
It is very nice also to chat with you. Finally, I can “talk” with somebody who doesn’t always have the same opinion with me, but there are line that we can agree to.
About Troy, it is simply they follow the line of HW. Menelaos did not die. Paris did not survive. Achiles never entered Troy. Patroclus was not Achieles’ cousin, he was his lover. Helena returned to Menelaos. So, it is not Troy from Homer they made, but Troy from anywhere else. That is the reason why I did not like it.
Interesting rien. I didn’t read Homers book. I will have to take the time to do that very soon.Helen went back to Menelaos? Can’t even imagine it. And, that was from Homers point of view or fact?
I think Achilles showed how important Patroclus was to him, no matter if he was his cousin or his lover. Being of the female gender, honestly, I prefered the way they played it out that Achilles was so taken in by a mere slavegirl to him.I think it showed such a warriers depth to be able to love as he loved her. Although, he didn’t respect her virgin robe showed him as the great warrier that he was.
Do you think the portrayed Hector properly? He was another one who came out a hero in this movie. He fought for loyality to his father.
I want you to know rien, from our discussion here, I will take notice of the actors you have mentioned because you are passionate about them. :-)
Then Hector upbraided him. “Paris,” said he, “evil-hearted Paris, fair to see, but woman-mad, and false of tongue, would that you had never been born, or that you had died unwed. Better so, than live to be disgraced and looked askance at. Will not the Achaeans mock at us and say that we have sent one to champion us who is fair to see but who has neither wit nor courage? Did you not, such as you are, get your following together and sail beyond the seas? Did you not from your a far country carry off a lovely woman wedded among a people of warriors–to bring sorrow upon your father, your city, and your whole country, but joy to your enemies, and hang-dog shamefacedness to yourself? And now can you not dare face Menelaus and learn what manner of man he is whose wife you have stolen? Where indeed would be your lyre and your love-tricks, your comely locks and your fair favour, when you were lying in the dust before him? The Trojans are a weak-kneed people, or ere this you would have had a shirt of stones for the wrongs you have done them.”
That’s the way Hector talked. Yes, Hector was just like what I imagined. Yes, Menelaos survived, and returned to his country. Otherwise, to whom shall Telemachos ask about His Father’s (Odyssey) whereabouts?
You know, I would like to have Achilles as great lover, and etc. But if Petersen made the film according to Homer, then he must follow it. I am also a woman. But BP is an actor. Is he afraid to play “gay” character? Or “Bi”? Just like many other Greeks Hero? Achilles was dressed up like a woman to avoid Trojan war (asked by his mother). Because he was predicted to be killed in this war. He was a mama’s son. A spoil rotten mama’s son. But, he was also a great warrior. A good fighter. That’s why the gods loved him.
You know, that’s my other problem. What I saw was, a rape scene. An Apollo Priest has to be a virgin. It was not a love scene. This Priest decided to give her life to worship Apollo. Why do you think Apollo was angry to the Greeks? Not only that Posseidon was angry with them (well, Odyssey in particular), but so was Apollo. That’s why they never could enter Troy. It was like raping a nun, you know. Well, at least in my eyes.
Sorry, I only get angry if I talk about Troy.
Why can’t you imagine Helena returned to Menelaos? Because Paris was more handsome? Paris was nothing but a coward spoiled womanizer. Or, you don’t want to have any imagination that may be BP will return to JA? Now I make the JP’s fans angry!! :-)
AH, Tiger. If only we lived not so far from each other, we could discuss on and on.
Anyway, if you want to “visit” me, and “talk” to me, just say hello to me on Jude”s threads. I will find you, somehow.
So, enjoy “my” actors! Hey, if you want to “fall in love” with Gary Oldman, watch “Dracula” or “Scarlett Letter”. But Demi Moore was in Scarlett Letter, so ignore her, if you don’t like her. She could not cry, you know…he…he…he…she needed eyedrops for the scenes!
BTW, I owe you an apology. Yesterday, I simply left the computer. It was about the time. I was on line for 8 hours. And that was too much! %-)
Did I say it was a love scene?? I said he was able to love her with such an intense love. The great warrier that he was. So it makes sense he was a mama’s boy. Kinda appeared to me that most of the men disrespected the women.I didn’t see it as a rape scene because I guess the Gods were speaking to her as well, maybe she wasn’t meant to be a nun. I didn’t see her fighting him off. She welcomed his embrace, and in knowing what she was,(a virgin) it was more the reason for him to love her so. She dedictaed herself to the Gods, but, appeared to me, she gladly gave herself to this great warrier. What man wouldn’t consider that a challenge? LOL
Seriously though. Please don’t patronize me with comments like I was surprised Helen returned to Menelaos because of his looks. I am not so shallow rien. Honestly, I thought it was shameful in the manner that she ran off with Paris. The reason I said I can’t imagine her returning to Menelaos because I would of thought he would kill her after embarrassing him in such a manner. I felt the way they presented Menelaos was accurate in the movie.
It is too bad they based the movie on Homers version if they were that far off. I really enjoyed the movie with the manner that they presented it. Like I said, I think it showed the depth of the era they were in.
Ha..ha..ha, I don’t know what I will do if BP is around me, and does what ever he does to me..:-)
No, I did not patronize you. Sorry, if you felt that way. I was only too angry about it. If I did not read the book, and fall in love with the verse, I would think the same way. It was a nice adventure film.
That’s the point. HW made film according to what they want. Sometimes I think that they don’t want to take any risk. The thing is, for a book like Homer Iliad/Ilias,which is well-known, even many archaeologist based their searched for Troy on Iliad, you have to be faithful, otherwise you will disappoint the book-lovers, like me.
It is just like making Hamlet, and let Hamlet survive. Or making Harry Potter, and Harry Potter died.
May be HW shall learn more about Tragedy, especially Greek Tragedy. And Troy is a tragedy. Only because of a spoiled rotten womanizer!
For me, I don’t have the time to sit down and read a book, unless I am on vacation and relaxing by a pool. As far as Troy goes, the movie did a great job of expressing the passion of what they fought for. To me, it was a success because usually movies about history bore me beyond belief. This one didn’t, I enjoyed the story and how they protrayed all the characters. I felt I walked away with a better understanding of the Trojan War and a “feel” for the era they were in. That is always impressive, when I can walk away with a feeling from a movie. That is what makes it truly entertaining to me.
I must admit, as much as I adore Brad as an actor,TAOJJ put me to sleep. It is not a storyline that holds my attention. But, the men in my house loved it. They felt Brad did an amazing job portraying Jesse James. Just goes to show, movies and entertainment are geered for a certain viewer. We can’t click with all of them. All I saw in TAOJJ was a man who was experencing magic in his private life. He never fell into character for me. He did as Achilles. That would be the difference for me when be entertained by a movie. You said it yourself, it has to touch your soul. Troy did that for me.So in my opinion, he was a huge success.I believe they did take the risk to make it entertaining beyond what was written in the book. The only thing I would of changed was Achilles would of lived and they rode off into the sunset together, but, that probably really would of upset you in comparing it to the book. lol
Oh, you are more romantic than what I thought! :-)
I love books. Reading is one of my passion. Poetry is my blood. Films are only dessert for me.
Brad Pitt is a good actor, or if I am cruel, he is a movie star. Only after “Kalifornia”, he does not allow himself to explore characters. I want to see him as a sweaty guy, or ugly limp person, or evil character! I want to see the madness in him (12 Monkeys) again. Seven was brilliant (I am still scared because of it). Too Young To Die? was fab!
“I want to find goodness in Evil Character and evilness in Good Character” Jude Law said.
That’s what I want to hear from Brad Pitt. That’s what I want to see.
Jesse James from Fonda and Tyrone Power was so good for me, that It is hard for me to accept from anybody else. And Power was a different league from Mr. Pitt.
How was Pitt”s Jesse James? Did he picture him as a thinker melancholy guy, or growing from ruthless emotional guy to somebody who regrets?
But where is he now?
“I want to find goodness in Evil Character and evilness in Good Character”
Ummm, lets not forget Tyler Durden. Louis in IWTV. I don’t rien, I think Brad has explored evil character and goodness nicely through the course of his career with many of his character choices.
Maybe Brad just wasn’t meant to move your soul like he has mine through his craft. :-)
Yes, Brad Pitt moved my soul. :-). There were only 3 films in my whole collection that scared me to death. One of them is Se7en! Even talking about it makes my hair standing!
Again, you are right.
But after Tom Bishop, mostly he played himself. Shown clearly in the Oceans film. I know, the films were not meant serious. ;-)
Did you read IWTV? It is such a book! The relation between Louis and Lestat was closer, but I think TC and BP played well. And Kirsten, what a character!
Sorry about Tyler! Edward drew me more. I know, Brad Pitt played as the cooler guy…..ah, even Lev Grossman did not want to have the guy who played in Fight Club which is not Brad Pitt…my poor Edward :-)
I don’t want to split hair, well I guess, I do. What I miss from Brad Pitt is that he rarely pulled the appropriate accent. The worst thing from it all was when played Heinrich Harrer (seven Years in Tibet). I know how an Austrian speaks. After all, I live in a city where everybody speaks German. Even the New Orleans accent he could not pull.
You know, when somebody says: ick bin een Berliner, then I want to hear the Berlin slang. Edward said he was a cowboy, and he spoke with a twang. He said he was a doctor from England, and he spoke with a thick british accent. Even Jude Law managed to pull the Savannah accent.
That’s what I miss!
I know, Tiger. I am a customer who god damned hard to be satisfied. But when I am, then I stay.
Nah rien, sounds like you have plenty of actors who entertain you. Brad just isn’t one of them. That is the beauty of the art of entertaiment, we all have our own point of view.
It was so funny after our conversation here, my son randomly started talking about wanting to see the Hulk movie. When I informed him Ed Norton was playing the Hulk, he seemed impressed that I knew ithat tidbit. So, thanks for making me cool to my kid. :-)
Nice talking to you!!
Nice talking to you too, Tiger! I have had great time with you!
I hope we can encounter each other soon!
Have a nice day!
Brad Pit = sexy
George Clooney = kinda sexy
