Angelina Jolie Joins the Washington Club

A radiant Angelina Jolie greets and signs autographs for fans as she leaves the Washington Club in Washington D.C. on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old pregnant humanitarian took time out of her busy schedule to speak at the “”Iraq, Education, And Children Of Conflict” forum before the Council on Foreign Relations. (Angie joined the council last summer.)

Angelina Jolie is accomplished in her field and has demonstrated serious interest in issues such as Darfur, international education and refugees,” Lisa Shields, vice president of communications at CFR, has said. “As such, her profile fits very well with other young professionals we’ve selected as the next generation of foreign policy leaders.”

Fox News (if you can call it that), along with various other sources, is reporting that the $3.7 million Madonna and friends raised at the event has yet to be turned over to UNICEF. The party was originally blasted for being held at the U.N and funded by the CEO of Gucci, Mark Lee. Later, Gucci recieved even more funny looks after Lee referred to the party as, “a celebration of the fashion house’s new store.” Still, through and through Madonna and Lee both claimed the real quest of the evening was to raise money for UNICEF and Raising Malwai. So where’s the cash?

Raising Malwai was started by Michael Berg, the son of Philip Berg, founder of the Kabbalah Center in Hollywood. But Raising Malawi isn’t a real charity…at least not yet. Fox is reporting that Raising Malawi remains unregistered and unrecognized as a charity, and that at the time of the party officials were saying the money would go towards “the Gucci Foundation, a registered charity”, but that isn’t a registered charity either. Yowzers!!

Of course Fox News is speculating that it’s a huge controversy led by the leaders of Kabbalah to embezzle money into the religion, but I strongly doubt that. I’m sure it’s all just a mix-up…or at least I want to believe I’m sure it’s all a mix-up. But the question still remains: Where is the money? $3.7 million doesn’t just disappear…or does it?

Angie could show little miss in the post below this one a thing or two about how to be gracefully pregnant.

What in the world? there are like 4 threads I need to catch up on. Angelina looks luminous in this picture. Is she coming to NY? Gotta catch up

bbl.

Angelina looks so beautiful. She has a very stromg pregnancy glow. She sure looks big. I wonder if she is close to her third trimester now.

My goodness, it’s all or nothing. It’s either no news for days, weeks even, or 4 threads in one day, lol. Thanks Jared for yet another new thread. :)

BEAUTIFUL INSIDE OUT, she looks so happy and content. She’s truly an amazing woman that’s what Brad sees in her beauty. She’s always find something useful to do. Her children will be proud of her, she’s their role model.

please ignore “famous”. She´s nothing.

hi felinelilly, angel ( you´re so right. Today is a great day :)). I´m so happy

addictedtoBAMPZS(+2?) @ 04/08/2008 at 4:32 pm

Angelina is a terrific role model for fans. The way she handles her career, her family and her humanitarian work is admirable, but I also think women should consider handling relationships the way Angie would— WWAD? (What Would Angie Do?)

Angie wouldn’t be caught dead wasting a moment’s time on a creep who’s ego was so huge he became verbally abusive the second she didn’t agree with him or do things his way. She would have nothing to do with a one-way affair. If she’s not on a two-way street, feeling equal trust, respect and regard, she would not be interested. Women of the world, follow her lead!

Fefe,

I’m just having a little fun…I wish we could ONE have Felinelilly Cook…it’s all I could afford.

That’s cute, Angie and Holly pregnant at the same time, i wish both all blessings and all happiness.

LOL cook, I didn’t mean your last post about Holly, I meant on the last thread. Go ahead and have fun, I’ll be in and out. Work calls.
Later… :)

Good afternoon to all of the beautiful BAMPZS fans. Ohmygawd, we have three Angie threads. This family is so beautiful and giving. and people wonder why they look tired sometimes. Or why they don’t have time to worry about lies in the tabs. Because they are too busy doing meaningful and good things for people who don’t read tabs or even care what is being said about them in them.

So Angie took Pax with her and Maddox. This should still any negativity about leaving him at home. I bet the boys had a great time. I’ve been there and I had a great time.

She truly looks beautiful in that dress. Marianne looks pretty also. This pregnant woman does more in one day than some women who are not pregnant do in a week. She is very strong not just physically, but in her committment to her family and her beliefs. Peace.

Those lips and eyes are droolworthy. all the other wanna be’s are trying so much to look like her.

Hi Carolina :)
i agree with you, i think Holly is pregnant.

Holly has gained weight. I’m no sure if it is because she is pregnant or has post pregnancy weight . Or she mayhave just gained weight. I think she looks good.

Sorry

Who is Holly????

Why is she so big. LOL. But remember she was way bigger than this when she got to her ninth month with Shiloh. In that picture with her and Maddox walking around Namibia she looked likeshe was carrying a full grown person in her uterus.

Jolie jokes, pleas for kids in conflict areas
Angelina Jolie hit the nation’s capital today to once again use her starpower for the greater good, this time shining a light on Iraq and the lack of education for children of conflict, reports USA TODAY’s Cindy Clark.

The pregnant star strode into the Washington Club in a long, sleeveless, black flowing dress to preside on a panel for a meeting of the Council of Foreign Relations Center for Universal Education and the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, of which she is a co-chair.

“It’s common sense, and yet education is still not enough of a priority in the international community,” says Jolie. Fresh from her February trip to Iraq, a radiant Jolie spoke emotionally of visits to refugee camps and the many children she met. “They are inspiring and strong and I know what they can do with an education.”

Jolie jotted down notes of her own as the other panelists spoke, including one who teased about getting an attentive audience “because I am in the presence of Ms. Jolie, who gets some attention.”

The actress wasn’t shy about piping up to answer questions addressed to the entire panel, and after providing a lengthy answer to one question joked, “That’s all for now. I won’t give my troop withdrawl strategy.”

Hi irma!Good to see you.

i love her belly :).
I´m so ansious for the birth, and see them all, in the magazines like people, hola (spanish), behaving like the most normal family in the world, as always they do. I wanna see the kids all together, “taking care” their brother/sister. The 5 or 6 kids all together.(it reminds me MAMS, when they talk about their wedding. Brad saying 5 and Angie 6 :) lol)

I’m so happy to see them doing what they love.

Angelina Jolie was radiant as she awarded her friend, journalist Mariane Pearl, with the Fern Holland Award Monday night at the Vital Voices Global Leadership Awards gala in Washington, D.C.

Jolie, who played Pearl in the film version of her book A Mighty Heart, spoke of Pearl’s special gift as a mother and called her an example of “courage, hope and tolerance,” reports the Washington Post.

Pearl, the wife of slain reporter Daniel Pearl, called Jolie “a sister” during her acceptance speech, and the two spent the day together, as their kids – Maddox, Pax and Adam – played.

On Tuesday, Jolie participated in a Council on Foreign Relations event in Washington D.C. The event was to help launch Jolie’s new venture, the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which will focus on the work of prominent charity organizations as well as tell the stories of the children in need.

I am too thrilled with all the new pics and articles…Angie is simply aglow. God bless the Jolie-Pitts!!!

what can one say but wow! she rocks.

Her BUMP IS FAKE! I am 5 months preganant and I know you dont grow a bump in a month. If you look at her in Jan. her belly was flat and then a little over a month later she looks about 6 or 7 months pregnant. Not normal, even if she is having twins. Its a scam to get more money or something.

please do not reply to the haters who believe they have been pregnant before,ha ha ha ha! delusions of grandure or what! yeah you know who you are! go Angie you are the lucky one and a lot of people are sooooooooo jealous!

Angie looks ethereal and serenely beautiful. Her inner peace, loving and happy family life radiates in her demeanor naturally. Angie has set the high standards of being a humanitarian by using her star power to human conflicts, causes and more importantly networking with governments and charitable organizations to find solutions to problems. Brad is one lucky man to have a woman who defines true beauty inside and out.

Carolina is the only annoying fan here, she makes anyone tired of her speech repetitive and the endless pics. She thinks nobody else has a pc or what, we are all B & A fans and we all can research. And worst whren she want to act as the blog police, calling everybody hater and troll. Dumb girl.

groundcontrol @ 04/08/2008 at 7:07 pm

Incredible! What did I miss? I need to be more observant when I walk.

I was getting off the metro at Dupont Circle around 2 this afternoon. My office is right there at the circle where Angie was and I live about 5 minutes away.

The Washington Club is also right there as well as the Council on Foreign Relations. You can see the circle in the background of her photos. It’s been really chilly here the past 2 days.

She looks great and I love that the boys got to see the Air & Space. I wonder if they went to the Spy Museum nearby. The Newseum (news museum) opens this Friday and it’s right next to the courthouses. I’ve been waiting for it to open for ages but now I learn it’s $20 a visit. For those of us in Washington who are used to all the museums and galleries being free (at least almost all of them), I’m dying that one I really want to visit and can easily pop into frequently will be so expensive. I’m looking for a yearly discounted fee. These private museums are real f###ers.

So yippee for DC. I can’t imagine they’ll be here another day but I’ll keep my eyes open. DC is really beautiful in the spring - too bad the weather’s been so uninviting.

Vicki, so nice that your dad has been having comfortable days.

Saracita, good going. Enjoy your baby. Especially while he’s still immobile.

Love Angie in the brownish- beige-coral like colored dress; it helps her complexion more then the black dress. The black dress seemed a little too long. Angie looks really great in lighter colors.
I thought it was so sweet how Marianne said that she found a sister in Angie. Angie is really a sweet and dedicated person and a great mom!
Just love her!!!

groundcontrol @ 04/08/2008 at 9:20 pm

I brought my comment over from the Vital Voices gala thread because this ignoranous just tees me off.

By the way, Angie looked lovely and I know that honorees at such events are thrilled when attendees take their award ceremonies seriously and dress appropriately. I used to have to plan these events when I was a lobbyist for an international organization and dressing formally shows honor to the award recipients.

=======================================

Anonymous @ 04/08/2008 at 2:31 pm

…that stupid dress. Very overdressed and very wrongly dressed for the occasion. Hey Angelina - Washington DC ain’t Vegas.

===================

Groundcontrol: You don’t know what the hell you’re talking about and you certainly don’t know what is appropriate attire in Washington. Do you really think that women in Washington don’t get dressed up for evening galas? The only ones who usually can’t make it too formal are women working until the last minute and racing to get to the event from work - and they usually manage to pull off an evening dinner suit like the woman on the left.

This was an evening gala awards and fundraising event at the Kennedy Center. All the other women were wearing evening wear as well. Jolie’s dress was perfectly appropriate.

Stop talking about things of which you have no experience or knowledge. Again, you come off like an ignorant hick.

I really think by comparing how Angelina dressed while pregnant with Shiloh and now with latest addition is like comparing Oranges to tangerines. While there are some things that are similar such as being pregnant, Angelina is more out in the open now with this pregnancy. She is going on field missions, attending awards, giving out awards. They are an established couple. They are not thousand of miles away from papz. . There are different styles that are prominent.now plus I am sure with a second pregnancy you have a better idea of what you are comfortable in.

That post from Vickie was really me. I wish this glitch would be fixed . Sometimes I forget to check the name block when making a post to make sure it is me.

Sissy Spacek in Smithville with other Oscar winners, nominees

Can Smithville take all this talent? Oscar-winning actress Sissy Spacek (“Coal Miner’s Daughter”) dropped by the Central Texas burg to visit her husband, Jack Fisk, Oscar nominated art director for “There Will Be Blood.” She at Zimmerhanzel’s barbecue and interacted sweetly with the locals. She was nominated for Oscars five other times.

Fisk is working on Terrence Malick’s “Tree of Life” after previously contributing to Malick’s “Days of Heaven” and “The New World,” as well as Spacek’s “Carrie.” She also appeared in Malick’s “Badlands.” (The sometime Austinite was twice nominated for Oscars.)

Spacek, of course, is cousin to Taylor-raised, University of Texas-trained Rip Torn (nominated for an Oscar for “Cross Creek”), who was married to Oscar winner Geraldine Page (“The Trip to Bountiful”), herself nominated seven times before winning. Torn and Page helped Spacek in her early career after she left Quitman.

“Tree of Life” stars, as everyone in Central Texas knows by now, Oscar-nominated Brad Pitt (“Twelve Monkeys”), domestically allied to Oscar winner Angelina Jolie (“Girl Interrupted”), now a regular at the Bastrop Wal-Mart (she’s also daughter of four-time Oscar nominee Jon Voight, winner for “Coming Home”). Pitt acts with Oscar winner Sean Penn (“Mystic River”), although local sightings of Madonna’s ex are rarer. He was twice nominated before winning. No Oscars for Madonna, I fear.

But that’s closer than six degrees of separation from more than 25 Oscar bids in our little Smithville band.

Gawd bless you guli. I was thinking about that video, and Brad telling Diane Sawyer how he had family on his mind. His voice was so sexy and sincere. Anyone with a thimble of sense knew he was not talking about having a family with x. I miss Preggy Jolie. She made some rather intense videos. I love the one When Worlds Collide. Next time you talk to her please tell her I miss her. He check your e-mail sent you one this morning.

Someone, a troll, mentioned how long Angie’s dresses were. When you wear a long dress it should cover the top of your shoes at least. You don’t want your ankles showing unless you have on boots. Also Angie is still growing. And as she grows her dresses will start to ride up. Therefore they should be long enough to accommodate this growth and still look stylish. I will never understand why people think wearing long means you are ashamed of your legs. It could be the opposite that your legs look good. Oh well, anything for a dig. Poor trolls/haters. Peace

The Day’s Other Iraq Policy Event — The One with the Paparazzi

By Robin Wright Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, April 9, 2008; Page A13

Actress Angelina Jolie and the World Bank’s Safaa el-Kogali spoke before the Council on Foreign Relations about the impact of war on Iraqi children. (By Ricky Carioti — The Washington Post)
Angelina Jolie nearly stole the limelight from Army Gen. David H. Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker yesterday with her own remarks on Iraq at the Council on Foreign Relations, which had to move the standing-room-only event to the ballroom of the Washington Club to accommodate the crowd and television cameras. Paparazzi and gawkers swarmed outside. The actress’s appearance on a panel discussing the plight of more than 1 million Iraqi child refugees was less upbeat than that of the U.S. officials who testified before two Senate committees yesterday.
“This population we’re talking about is the future of Iraq,” said Jolie, who has traveled twice to Iraq over the past year, as well as to Syria to visit Iraqi refugees. “So to reach them now, to help deal with their trauma and refocus their minds on a possible future should absolutely be one of our top priorities. We need these kids. . . . We need them to rebuild their country, to stabilize their country and eventually lead their country.”
Jolie also spoke directly to Petraeus’s views on the war.
“Petraeus would agree that a surge does not just mean it works if you get numbers of violence down,” she said. “It works if humanitarian aid is starting to increase and changes are able to be made. He knows that this is the time to start making some big changes and some big steps forward for the people.”
Jolie gently scolded the Bush administration for its slow follow-through on absorbing Iraqi refugees. The United States took in 374 Iraqis in January, 444 in February and 751 in March — in a year in which it has pledged to take in 12,000 Iraqi refugees, she noted.
The United States has taken in far fewer than many other countries. Germany has absorbed more than 36,200, Britain more than 22,000, while Syria has increased its population by more than 5 percent and Jordan by more than 10 percent from the influx of Iraqis.
Pressed on the impact of a decision on troop reductions on Iraqi refugees, Jolie joked, “I won’t give my troop-withdrawal strategy.”
Jolie co-chairs the new Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, along with Gene Sperling, a former Clinton administration economic adviser now at the Council on Foreign Relations. She appeared with Sperling, International Rescue Committee President George Rupp and Safaa el-Kogali of the World Bank. But attendees clearly came for Jolie.
James Gavrilis, who is on the Joint Chiefs staff at the Pentagon, said he would not have come by if not for Jolie. “I want to hear what her perspective is and how it’s different from the military and masculine perspective,” he said, quickly adding that, as an insider at the Pentagon, he already knew what Petraeus and Crocker would say in their testimony.
Several others conceded Jolie was the attraction but asked that their names not be used. A similar council event on the plight of Rwanda’s child refugees brought out 50 people last month, when Jolie’s presence was not advertised in advance.
Yesterday’s event even elicited reactions in Baghdad. “I was very sorry to miss her visit to Iraq,” Deputy Prime Minister Barham Salih said Monday in a telephone interview. “This was one meeting I desperately wanted to have. The prime minister was not so keen on the meeting. He didn’t know who she was.” He then added: “This is a serious humanitarian crisis. We have had a serious debate in government over this issue, and some of us want to do more.”
Jolie’s event was not timed to the six-month assessment by Petraeus and Crocker. She was in Washington for an event honoring Mariane Pearl, the widow of journalist Daniel Pearl and subject of a movie in which Jolie appeared.

The Jolie/Pitts have the world covered with their humanitarian work. Plus now that Doug is involved they can find those places that Brad or Angie might not have focused on here in the states and abroad. They are all doing such wonderful things. I wish Angie’s mother was here to see what she and Brad are doing. Brad’s parents are lucky to see their son evolving before their eyes. His growth must make them proud. Peace

General won’t promise more Iraq pullouts
By ROBERT BURNS,
AP Military Writer

WASHINGTON - The top U.S. commander in Iraq told Congress Tuesday that hard-won gains in the war zone are too fragile to promise any troop pullouts beyond this summer, holding his ground against impatient Democrats and refusing to commit to more withdrawals before President Bush leaves office in January.

Army Gen. David Petraeus painted a picture of a nation struggling to suppress violence among its own people and to move toward the political reconciliation that Bush said a year ago was the ultimate aim of his new Iraq strategy, which included sending more than 20,000 extra combat troops.

Security is getting better, and Iraq’s own forces are becoming more able, Petraeus said. But he also ticked off a list of reasons for worry, including the threat of a resurgence of Sunni or Shiite extremist violence. He highlighted Iran as a special concern, for its training and equipping of extremists.

In back-to-back appearances before two Senate committees, Petraeus was told by a parade of Democrats that, after five years of war, it was past time to turn over much more of the war burden to the Iraqis. Those senators said Iraq will not attain stability until the United States makes the decision to begin withdrawing in large numbers and forces the Iraqis to settle their differences.

Republican Sen. George Voinovich of Ohio, a longtime critic of the administration’s war strategy, told Petraeus: “The American people have had it up to here.”

Petraeus responded, “I certainly share the frustration.”

But when it came to promising or predicting a timetable for further withdrawals, Petraeus didn’t budge. He said he had recommended to Bush that he complete, by the end of July, the withdrawal of the 20,000 extra troops. Beyond that, the general proposed a 45-day period of “consolidation and evaluation,” to be followed by an indefinite period of assessment before he would recommend any further pullouts.

The Petraeus plan, which Bush is expected to embrace, reflects a conservative approach that leaves open the possibility that roughly 140,000 U.S. troops could remain in Iraq when the president leaves office next year.

On Thursday Bush will make a speech about the war, now in its sixth year, and his decision about troop levels.

In exchanges with several senators, Petraeus refused to say when he thought it would be safe to resume troop reductions beyond July without risking “fragile and reversible” security gains.

Asked Sen. Carl Levin, chairman of the Armed Services Committee: “Could that be a month, could that be two months?”

Petraeus began to respond: “Sir, it could be less than that. It could be. …”

Levin: “Could it be more than that?”

Petraeus: “It could be more than that. Again, it’s when the conditions are met that we can make a recommendation for further reductions.”

Levin: “Could it be three months?”

Petraeus: “Sir, again, at the end of the period of consolidation and evaluation. …”

On they went in the same vein, even after a demonstrator — “Bring them home! Bring them home!” — interrupted the hearing and was escorted out.

When Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., started in again later, Petraeus said it would defy logic to establish a timetable before knowing what conditions will be like this summer.

“If you believe as I do — and the commanders on the ground believe — that the way forward on reductions should be conditions-based then it is just flat not responsible to try to put down a stake in the ground and say this is when it would be or that is when it would be,” Petraeus said.

One of three senators who could be the new president by January, Hillary Rodham Clinton, said much earlier, not in a response to Petraeus, that she disagreed with those who criticized lawmakers who are calling for an orderly withdrawal.

“Rather, I think it could be fair to say that it might well be irresponsible to continue the policy that has not produced the results that have been promised time and time again at such tremendous cost to our national security and to the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States military,” she said.

Sen. Barack Obama, her rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, told Petraeus that while he wants U.S. troops out of Iraq he would not initiate a precipitous withdrawal. And he said talking regularly to the Iranians is critical to getting to the point where it would be safe to end American involvement.

“I do not believe we are going to be able to stabilize the situation without them,” Obama said.

okay, anoble :)

konnitiwa @ 04/09/2008 at 1:41 am

War supporter John McCain, who will be the GOP nominee, said: “Our goal — my goal — is an Iraq that no longer needs American troops. And I believe we can achieve that goal, perhaps sooner than many imagine. But I also believe that to promise a withdrawal of our forces, regardless of the consequences, would constitute a failure of political and moral leadership.”

Petraeus said his plan is supported by Adm. Michael Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who has been notably public in his expressions of concern that the heavy commitment of troops in Iraq has limited U.S. military options elsewhere and has put enormous strain on troops and their families.

Petraeus made no mention of reducing soldiers’ tours of duty in Iraq from the current 15 months to 12 months, but the administration is expected to announce a decision to do that this week. It would take effect this summer, coinciding with the completion of the drawdown to 15 combat brigades in Iraq.

Petraeus said the recent flare-up of violence in Basra, in Baghdad and elsewhere points up the importance of the cease-fire declared last year by anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr and highlighted the role Iran allegedly plays in funding and training Shiite militias through cells the U.S. military calls “special groups.”

“Unchecked, the special groups pose the greatest long-term threat to the viability of a democratic Iraq,” Petraeus said.

Testifying beside Petraeus was Ryan Crocker, the U.S. ambassador to Baghdad, who also focused on the violence in Basra, where Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki dispatched Iraqi security forces to combat Shiite militias.

“Taken as a snapshot, with scenes of increasing violence, and masked gunmen in the streets, it is hard to see how this situation supports a narrative of progress in Iraq,” Crocker said. “There is still very much to be done to bring full government control to the streets of Basra and eliminate entrenched extremist, criminal, and militia groups. When viewed with a broader lens, the Iraqi decision to combat these groups in Basra has major significance.”

konnitiwa @ 04/09/2008 at 1:53 am

Anything to be near Hollywood celebrity, right?

Poor actress Angelina Jolie thinks that she can buy serious credibility. Doesn’t she know she is merely being used for her celebrity for fund raising? Poor thing. She lives in a fantasy world.

Angelina looks great. She carries her pregnancy well and she looks absolutely radiant in these pics…

I admire her commitment to the Iraqi children. It’s one thing to tell people you care about refugees, about children in war-torn countries. It takes some diligence, but these causes are not controversial, and cynical people may say you are just doing it for the PR. Well, nobody can say that about her commitment to the Iraqi refugees and the Iraqi children. It’s not the popular thing to do, it’s an inconvenient fact to bring up. If you travel in certain circles most of your friends will think you are nuts. But that’s why it takes real courage, and she has it.

I’ve never been prouder of her…

BTW those old pics of Angie from her photo shoot when she was 16 were just too cute for words! It’s like a really cute teddy bear you see in the store and you just want to squeeze it till its fillings pop out… So cuuute!!!

anonymous, you are soooo middle/high school.

Assuming you are just a kid, let me ask you some questions.

Let’s just say you are right and no one in DC takes Angelina seriously. So bl o o dy what? Because seriously - :

History is full of people whom no one took seriously during their time but have proven society wrong time and time again. Just to name two types of people in recent history:

(a) Suffragettes were considered eccentric, embarrassing, LOUD MOUTH and unladylike blue stockings. No one took them seriously.

(b) Impressionists painters were not considered serious artists.

Yet, time has proven that in the end, beauty is beauty and impressionist paintings are the most sought after artworks. The suffragettes were right - hence universal suffrage (do google if you don’t know what a suffragette or a impressionist painter means).

So, should we each spend our time worrying about what other people think of us? Whether we are cool?? Whether we are with the in crowd?

Clearly the answer is, we do what we believe is right. And if our parents raised is properly, we have a clear sense of what is right and what is wrong for ourselves within the context of the community.

so again, why should Angelina care whether anyone takes her seriously in DC? She can hope that people will take her seriously, but if they don’t, should she give up and let 20 million refugees suffer anonymously?

Whadya think, anonymous?

PLEASE PICK UP A FASHION MAGAZINE …. “LONG” DRESSES ARE THE LATEST STYLE. AS ALWAYS, AJ WORE THEM BEFOR Gwen S., & Jessica A. (to name a few).

i’m sure aniston is credible when she is talking about-wait what does aniston talk about?-lol-suntanning, the lastest menthol cigarette-lol-that was too easy.

****************************************
We are on a celebrity gossip blog - this is the fantasy world. Your outlook is really superficial and limited and fantasy. Angie would not be on the CFR and participating on the panels and other functions like those this week, if all she offered was celebrity. I can’t see Paris Hilton operating in the arenas that Angie operate in. Angie is an influential person because she knows the issues and can express ideas very well. And she knows how to get things done. There are many celebrities, but in the arena Angie operates in, just any old celebrity won’t do. You know what Angie does is the real deal - stop being so negative and stop trying to deny and demean everything she does. You don’t like her, and always try to put a negativve spin on her when she gets positive press. She personally threatens you - why is that? Be honest with yourself - why do you feet the need to demean her and her accomplishments?

Don’t forget Reagan was a only B-list actor, but was elected US President, mostly by a conservation constituency.

So get out of denial and stop trying to minimize Angie and her contributions. Celebrity only gets you go far. To get where Angie is takes substance, dedication, intelligence, strength, warmth, sincerity, compassion, love, and knowledge of the issues and ability to express oneself and one’s ideas in a way that people from all segments of society and cultrues can understand. Angie has these attributes - so she operates on a level beyond celebrity gossip - what we say here on a celebrity blog is really the fantasy world - and those of you who speak negatively of her from a celebrity gossip perspective really are the ones in a fantasy world.

George to Brad: I Have An Oscar … And You Don’t!

George Clooney kept his feet on the ground when he was named PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive – twice! But his 2005 Oscar triumph for Syriana went straight to his head.

“It makes me much harder to live with,” the Best Supporting Actor winner told Britain’s morning chat-fest, GMTV, on Wednesday.

In fact, the 46-year old admits he often lords his big win over Oscar-less pal Brad Pitt.

“That’s what I enjoy doing with Brad – is gloating,” Clooney joked.

(Angelina Jolie’s other half was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for 1995’s Twelve Monkeys, but he lost out to Kevin Spacey in The Usual Suspects.)

To this day, the Oscar statue takes center stage during get-togethers chez Clooney.

“I keep it back over a fireplace in my house,” he said. “When my friends come over, I make them pick it up and we take photographs of them giving an acceptance speech.”

The actor is in London to promote his latest film, Leatherheads, costarring Renée Zellweger.

He has been spotted dining with Matt Damon – the reigning Sexiest Man Alive – and partying at London’s Bungalow 8. So where is girlfriend Sarah Larson?

“She’s in Los Angeles and working,” he told PEOPLE at the film’s London premiere Tuesday night.

======================
Clooney can’t stop talking about Brad.

I think its two different dresses. The one she wore with MP has something on the middle. Maybe am wrong but i think so.

To prove Olympic spirit, China must help Darfur

BY JEREMY POINDEXTER

Spielberg is only just of many celebrities who have publicly condemned the events in Darfur. “Not On Our Watch,” a non-profit dedicated to Darfur advocacy and aid co-founded by George Clooney, Don Cheadle, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon, recently traveled to China to make the same demands. Actress Mia Farrow has also actively spoken out against the genocide in Darfur, and has called for public pressure on China in the months leading up to the Olympics. As well-informed citizens, if we want to put an end to the violence, we must remain aware of the atrocities going on in Darfur and share these with the wider public.

Strange bedfellows Annie Lennox, on her site, and Anderson Cooper, on CNN’s, have been singled out for best celebrity/fan site nominations - while Bebo, ChangeEverything.ca, Facebook, Flock The Social Web and Ning are in the running for the best social networking award.

Public Votes, Too
The Webbys are presented by the 550 members of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, who include Internet co-inventor Vinton Cerf, R/GA’s Chief Bob Greenberg, The Simpson’s creator Matt Groening and movie-studio chief Harvey Weinstein.

One distinctive characteristic of the Webbys is that the Web community is given an opportunity to choose winners. From April 8 through May 1, the public may cast votes online for the Webby People’s Voice Awards presented by Nokia.

Winners will be announced May 6 and honored at two ceremonies in New York City: The Webby Film & Video Awards on June 9, and The Webby Awards Gala on June 10. Best of all: Winners’ acceptance speeches are strictly restricted to five words or less.

Hi anoble :)

I’m good. I never posted anything or did any lurking last week. My aunt was very ill. She just had an operation yesterday but she will be alright soon. It was hard for me to post here when someone very close to me wasn’t feeling well.

Anyway, have a nice day and dont forget to watch Brad on Idol today. Oh wait a min, i forgot you work at night like my mum sometimes. I’ll see Idol tomorrow here.

I’m sorry about your aunt. I hope she gets well. I thought about you when that plane crashed in the London neighborhood, I hope it wasn’t close to you. I caught a little of Brad’s AI tape on youtube, that’s probably where I will see it. Thanks for the good day wish, I saved the Angie “hug” you sent the other day. You do such a good job finding those. Keep up the good work :D

this internet thing just brings the whole world closer to your own little corner, you realize when you hear something on the news that , hey you know a person who lives where ever the story is taking place. Since posting on JJ’s I have met people from all over the world and have come to think of some of them as friends. :)

anoble @ 04/09/2008 at 9:02 am

You are right. I remember last year i met a girl called Melissa(my namesake) she was from LA, i met her at pittwatch and we then both started posting here on jj. After a few months she told me she doesn’t want me to email or talk to her again. I was very upset cos i never did anything bad to her and i thought we were so close that when she told me that ,she broke my heart. Now am ok though ;)

I’ve met alot of people here too whom i think of them as friends and alot of them are really good. :)

Hi :) Waving!

Jared,

Your site link shows up in Google on the first page, on top when you search for ‘jolie’, among Reuters and AFP etc.! I think this is the first time I saw it, COngrats! :)

Hey everyone, I just survived 13 hr flight from Tokyo with two kids — they slept almost none! Now after two days they are still getting up at 4AM…. Even with a private jet and some help, it must be hard for Jolie-Pitts to travel with the kids. All the ore kudos to them!

Yes @ 04/09/2008 at 9:14 am
I’m sorry that you had that kind of experience, those things happen in life, it’s good you have moved on. We are definitely cyber buddies. :D
I depend on you, alia and carolina to post good pixs for me. It’s my bedtime - have a great day and I hope to talk with you later.

hottest couple ever - waves to you this morning. ITA - Angie never ceases to amaze. I wish I could achieve just half, no a quarter of what she has. :)

Besane @ 04/09/2008 at 9:19 am

I tip my hat to you, I don’t think I would have survived.

Looking forward to seeing Brad tonight on AI. Take care all. Off to bed for me. Thanks again!!

Good morning everyone. Yes, I’m sorry to hear about your aunt, I hope, she is doing fine after the surgery.
Besane, welcome back. I hate flying specially going home to the Phil for 21 hour flight, can’t sleep & always go to the bathroom because of nervousness. The last time we went home ( 3 years ago) I asked for a seat closer to the toilet. So many bumpy flight experiences, thank God I survived.
Looking forward to watch & see Brad tonight. I hope, the whole family is back safe & sound to Texas.
vickifromtexas: I’m glad your father is making a lot of progress, going out the house is one step to regaining his health back. My thoughts & prayers to his full recovery.

Hello everybody!!. Wish you all a wonderful day.
Angie looks so beatiful. ( I still have problems with my internet connection at home and I couldn´t post in the last two threads!!, what a frustration…)

I think I am officially on the twins train, it’s that…or that is just going to be one very tall boy…and that’s why her belly is sticking out so far. Cuz I don’t even think she’s more than 5 and a half mos. yet

Won’t it be cute if she has a little blonde baby boy and a little brunette baby girl…they will be like a mini brad n’ angie. lol

THANK you all fellow JP fans for all the pics.and video links!
Im so proud to be Brad and Angie fan!

100 Top Entertainment Writers on the ‘Greenest’ Celebrities
Wednesday April 9, 8:00 am ET

NEW YORK, April 9, 2008 /PRNewswire/ — With gas prices approaching $4 a gallon, the economy lagging, and temperatures breaking records, green is the new gold in Hollywood. Traditionally the spokesmen of decadence and excess, some celebrities now preach the lifestyles of conservation and sustenance. But who are they specifically?

Here are the results from the first annual Tullamore Dew Survey:

1. Leonardo DiCaprio: “I’m king of the world!” And he protects it
accordingly. Not only did he produce and narrate last year’s global-warming documentary, the 11th Hour, his whole family drives Prius’s at his request and Leo often flies commercially.

2. Brad Pitt: This two-time ’sexiest-man alive’ isn’t just a pretty face. He has been at the forefront of rebuilding New Orleans homes in
eco-friendly fashions and narrated the sustainable design series, e2.

3. Al Gore: While he didn’t quite win the 2000 Presidential election,
it’s official … Mr. Gore is a bona-fide “celebrity”. His 2006 film,
An Inconvenient Truth, is the 4th highest grossing documentary ever produced. He was also the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 which was shared by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

4. Ed Begley, Jr.: Best known for his work on the TV series,
St. Elsewhere, this long-time vegan begins his mornings by powering his toaster with his stationary bicycle. He and his wife host Living With Ed, a TV show that puts a domestic spin on green living, and Ed has his own line of eco-cleaners called Begley’s Best.

5. George Clooney: As the new face of environmentalism, you might have caught Mr. Clooney on the cover of Vanity Fair’s first “green issue” last year. George drives in style (conscience intact) as he was the first owner of the hybrid Tango, and has made a deposit on a Tesla Roadster, the upcoming battery powered electric sport scar.

6. Angelina Jolie: Ms. Jolie’s humanitarian efforts throughout the world have had a direct impact on reducing environmental degradation in the areas of Thailand, Lebanon, Sudan, Costa Rica, and Darfur. Alongside Brad, she has been instrumental in re-building the new, environmentally-conscious New Orleans.

7. Bono: Between his work in Africa, founding ONE Campaign and Product Red, Bono has been a leading environmentalist, humanitarian and overall philanthropist. Additionally, he founded EDUN, an environmentally conscious fashion company from Ireland … and he’s a rock star.

8. Darryl Hannah: When she’s not working the sound, video camera, and hosting her own green video blog, DH Love Life, Darryl can be seen cruising in her 70’s era Nova that runs on grease she collects from her meals (biodiesel fuel). Her home runs on solar power and she recently “did some time in the big house” for chaining herself to a walnut tree in protest of authorities bulldozing the nation’s largest urban farm. You go girl!

9. Cameron Diaz: Cameron’s been doing her part to bring environmentalism to teens with her MTV documentary, Trippin’, in which she and her friends travel to such locations as Bhutan and Honduras safe-guarding the environment. She was also a celebrity spokesperson for the announcement of Live Earth, a series of world-wide concerts held on July 7, 2007.

10. Woody Harrelson: Arguably the “greenest” celebrity on this list,
Woody’s environmental concerns extend beyond a good party. He has traveled the American West Coast on bicycle and domino caravan with a hemp oil-fueled bio-diesel bus. Party on, Woody ….

NYPost

Dim lights

April 9, 2008

Other than for People and Larry Hackett, its managing editor, the start of the year has not been a bright one for the editors of celebrity magazines.

People is up 5 percent year to date, averaging 1.5 million copies on newsstands for the two-month period ended in February, which the Audit Bureau of Circulations is expected to reveal today when it releases its Rapid Report, which is designed to let advertisers know how issues of magazines are selling in a more timely fashion than the semi-annual FAS-FAX reports.

People’s biggest seller was the issue featuring Heath Ledger on the cover in January. That issue sold 1.8 million copies.

People’s late deadline on Tuesday enabled it to be on the only celebrity weekly with Ledger on the cover. The following week, when the competition finally caught up with the story, People sold another 1.5 million with another Ledger cover.

Its Christina Aguilera cover of her and her newborn actually sold better than the early estimates suggested, coming in at 1.45 million copies on newsstands. Early estimates pegged newsstand sales at 1.3 million, barely above the magazine’s average - which, given People paid a big seven-figure sum for the pictures - could have been an embarrassment for the magazine.

The other big baby pictures of recent weeks in which People shelled out big bucks - Nicole Ritchie’s daughter and Jennifer Lopez’s twins - won’t clock in until the numbers from March are revealed by ABC next month.

The early estimates have Lopez’s babies enticing 1.9 million readers to buy People that week.

Us Weekly’s Editor Janice Min has looked a little rattled in the early part of the year.

Two of the four issues missed the rate base - which is the amount of circulation from single-copy sales and subscribers that the magazine’s publisher tells advertisers it will deliver each month.

The magazine expected its circulation gains to continue, since it upped its rate base to 1.9 million at the start of the year. However, two of the four issues covered in the Rapid Report missed that mark. When the magazine does finally catch up to the February numbers, it is expected to show another bumpy month.

An Us spokesman declined to comment.

OK! magazine showed that its Jamie Lynn Spears cover was a big seller, with 1.125 million copies sold, which contributed to overall sales when added to subscriptions of over 1.5 million a month.

But that was its only bright spot. The magazine raised it rate base to 900,000 but in six of the seven issues covered in the period it missed that number.

Publisher Tom Morrissey insists that newsstand circulation is still rising compared with a year ago, and that by the time the final numbers are delivered, the average sale will be OK.

“We were averaging 886,000 per issue, which is a minimal 1.5 percent off,” he said, adding that he expects to make up the shortfall with strong sales in March.

Bauer Publishing titles - which were forced to raise their news stand prices to $2.99 under pressure from whole salers - are still reeling, eventhough both magazines lowered the amount of circulation that they promised to deliver.

Newsstand sales for In Touch are down 26 percent year to date and the title missed the new lower rate base of 1 million copies three times in the Rapid Report.

Life & Style fell 21 percent at newsstands and missed its rate base four times.

“You’ll always have some up and down week to week, but on average, we have delivered the rate base over the two month period,” said Ian Scott, president of Bauer’s ad sales operation

Who will be getting top billing for WANTED? I’m very interested in knowing. It will give a sense as to how this film will be promoted. Will it be promoted as a Jolie film, a James McEvoy film or an ensemble film like The Departed and the Oceans films? I see on imdb that James McEvoy is the lead, does that mean that Angelina is supporting?

Last day voting. Vote for Angie

RE: IRAQUI REFUGEES @ 04/09/2008 at 12:22 pm

WASHINGTON, DC- Today, Senators Edward M. Kennedy and Joseph Biden released a report detailing the lack of American leadership in the Iraqi refugee crisis. An estimated two million Iraqi refugees have been displaced from their homes and are living in Syria and Jordan, with another two million displaced within Iraq.

A young Iraqi refugee in Syria: An Iraqi refugee boy stands beside his mother, who holds her registration certificate from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Photo by Catholic Relief Services (CC)A young Iraqi refugee in Syria: An Iraqi refugee boy stands beside his mother, who holds her registration certificate from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Photo by Catholic Relief Services (CC)

The report makes several recommendations for responding to the humanitarian crisis, namely that the White House appoint a senior coordinator to manage the U.S. response to the crisis and significantly increase U.S. funding commitments to reflect a fifty percent contribution of all appeals by the United Nations and other international organizations to support Iraqi refugees and displaced persons. The report states that the United States must develop a comprehensive, coordinated assistance strategy and lead international efforts in soliciting international contributions. Encouraging countries which host Iraqi refugees to provide legal protections to Iraqi refugees is also recommended in the report.

Senator Kennedy said, “President Bush has an obligation to show leadership on the issue of Iraqi refugees, and I hope he will address this critical topic in his speech on Thursday. To date, the President has not publicly stated that the U.S. has a moral obligation to help Iraqi refugees. Since the Samarra bombing in February 2006, and the massive exodus and displacement of Iraqis, President Bush has ignored the crisis because it contradicts his view of events in Iraq. Millions of refugees are suffering, and White House leadership is essential.”

“While the number of Iraqis being forced from their homes has declined, the humanitarian needs of those who have already been displaced have not,” said Senator Biden. “As we debate the future of America’s involvement in Iraq here in Washington, I hope we can all agree that the United States has a moral obligation to provide assistance to the millions of displaced Iraqis and refugees this war has created.”

Senators Kennedy, Lugar, Biden and others will introduce a bipartisan bill providing additional authority for continued processing of special immigrant visas for qualified Iraqi and Afghan translators who worked for the U.S. military and U.S. government. The National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2008, enacted January 28, 2008, created 5,000 new special immigrant visas for Iraqis whose lives are at risk because of their service to the U.S. government. These special visas are not available until FY 2009. Senator Kennedy’s bipartisan bill would make the visas available immediately to qualified Iraqis who worked for the U.S. military and the U.S. government. Iraqi translators and interpreters who placed their lives, families, and livelihoods at risk to serve on the side of America are eligible for these special visas. Others cosponsors include Senators Leahy, Specter, Levin, Cornyn, Obama, Lieberman, McCain, Durbin, Sununu, Cardin, Smith, Hagel and Coleman.

The text of the report appears below.

MANAGING CHAOS – THE IRAQI REFUGEES OF JORDAN AND SYRIA AND INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS IN IRAQ

LETTER OF TRANSMITTAL

April 8, 2008

DEAR COLLEAGUES: There are an estimated two million Iraqi refugees in Jordan and Syria, the vast majority of whom have been displaced from their homes since the war in Iraq began in 2003. Another two million refugees are displaced inside Iraq. In January 2008, we directed two of our staff m
