I agree it grows on you. I’m seriously loving it. I think it’s meant to be a light fun song not a deep song. It’s working for me, when you’re rocking out, you’re not exactly meditating :). I think it will appeal to all ages. I can see my colleagues rocking to this at an office party or barbeque night. Like after a hard day’s job, all we’re gonna do is dance!

It’s not generally speaking my kind of song. But I liked it for what it is. It’s got a good hook and vocally I detected a Christina Aguilera vibe. I thought Vanessa did sound stronger and more mature. She sounded good, the lyrics do leave a bit desired but then I don’t think whoever penned this little ditty had the pretension that they were creating a mastpiece of songwritiing.
It’s meant to be a fun dance song and I think on that level it succeeds. So while I can’s say I LOVED it, I did like it.

I think the reason people are disliking this is cos it’s very different to the songs on ‘V’. It’s a lot more grown up, edgy and hip. Even Vanessa herself says she loves this album so much more than her last and I completely agree. I can’t stop listening to the song! Because her audience is very young and this song is so grown up, there is a small problem. But she has got many older fans too so hopefully that will work in her favour. :D

I like the way she blends her voice so many different ways in the song. I will admit at a few points in the song , I had to listen hard to know it was really Vanessa singing. Very different sound from what we are used to but I liked it.

Ok…. I love Vanessa, almost everything bout her, except this song. To me it really sounds like a slaughtered version of something in between trying to express these boots are made for walking, a sketchers ad with a little bit of Jlo thrown into the mix for fun. Flat out, its bad. The lyrics sound like the were written for a five year old, other than professional dancers no one wears sneakers to go dancing. It truly seems like maybe she was singing about rehearsals for hsm, because clearly the girl has never been out dancing… ever. Its a train rec and I pray that she will be releasing a soulful ballad to clean, or maybe cover this mess up. I will give her that vocal wise it showed major potential, if she is able to hook up with the right producers and record company, she could make something that would actually be played on the real radio.I think that right now disney has a very tight leash around her and everything has to be very safe, but at the same time she really wanted her own edge to it, so basically that butcher of a song came out…. V i love you to death, hey we even share the same birthday, but that.. that was something that should have nv left the studio. The more I listen to the song , the more I really , really love it. It has such a strong beat and a very catchy sound. Vanessa’s vocals are really sounding more mature too. People have different music tastes so it makes sense that it wouldn’t appeal to everyone, that’s a given.
Like I’ve mentioned before, dancing songs are not really meant to be deep or have meaningful lyrics. Think Cyndi Lauper’s ‘girls wanna have fun’ or Rhianna’s ‘umbrella’. Though I would have loved better lyrics, her voice and the beat totally makes it up for me. I love that it’s different and, in fact, i just love it! period.

As I said in the first thread: Vanessa sounds amazing, it has a great dance beat, and I can totally see someone from Dancing With the Stars doing a dance routine to the song. I really like songs that have great lyrics and moves me in that way BUT this song isn’t meant to be that kind of song. It is meant to dance to and get your body moving—to give you a certain feel and put you in an upbeat mood. It was not meant to be a life-changing type song. So, if all you haters have to go on is that the words are terrible you will have to complain about a lot of music out there right now. And if that is what you are complaining about then I suspect you just want to say something negative about Vanessa.
I think she may have wanted to release something totally different than what was on her first CD so she could show she was versatile and liked different kinds of music—something more than ballads and love songs, etc.

Actually, considering past threads, I was expecting more criticisms just because it’s Vanessa. I suppose, apart from the lyrics (which like most people have pointed out, is common with a lot of hit dance numbers) there’s not enough material for criticism. Her voice and the hot beat vindicate themselves.

I do think in this case Jared knew everyone was so anxious to find out about this song and he thought he’d put the words up so everyone would know what it was saying because like so many songs with this kind of beat it is hard to understand every word Vanessa is singing at times.

Karen, there really wasn’t what you would call a real interview. The guy on Radio Disney and Vanessa casually talked between songs played on the radio and people calling in. If you want the gist of what was said you can look at what Chay on vabn wrote as it was playing out. She was blogging as the show was going on. Hope this helps. Not sure if the show was pre recorded or not. I thought it was live until I thought I heard Vanessa say they were not in Utah yet, but I may have miss heard her.

i love vanessa but it really don’t like this song. the lyrics don’t flow, it’s really pausey. maybe it will go on me but i don’t know. i think the rest of the album will be better. i love her i just don’t think this is her best song. the singing is great amazing even it’s just how the lyrics flow or more don’t flow. i still will always love nessa and hope she keeps making music and movies, she’s really great.

Vanessa is growing up and by all accounts this album will portray that, why should’nt she try something different it’s her career after all, and you can’t please everybody all the time you will either like her album or not that’ everyone’s choice, but there’s no need to come on a thread and start throwing insults and calling her name’s. There’s a lovely invention called a ‘off’ button onthings so if you don’t like it when you hear it then just press thatbutton and the sound will be gone.
But I say good luck to her and I hope she contiunes to grow and enjoy what’s she’s doing, becuase with some people it does’nt matter what Vanessa does they will always find fault.

Makes you want to put on your sneakers and do just what it says and that is dance. I think Vanessa has got a hit on her hands for this summer. I can see friends gathering at the beach or where they choose have their get together. I’m a 56 year old grandma who has fun with her grand-daughters, one is 14yrs old and the other is 15yrs old. My grandson is soon to be 6 yrs. in May and he likes to join in the fun.
Music is a great way to enjoy family, friends, or the one love. This song is a great song for fun. Can’t wait for the rest of the album!

V has done an amazing job. Its a fun, upbeat song. Its meant to be light hearted, and in the interview she did say she was making fun of herself in a way. Everyone has their own taste, but you can’t define good music, because everyone has their own sujective view on what that is. You are the immature ones for bashing people all the time.
The song doesn’t take itself seriously so why should you. Yes, everyone is entiltled to their own opinion, but if you don’t like it, don’t listen its that simple. Anyone who goes dancing can kinda relate to this song, its about dancing all night long, and if you do that confortable footwear is a must, trust me. I feel like this song would have been wonderful (childish lyrics and all) if someone like a Christina Aguilera sang it. I kept thinking in my head ‘this sounds like it’s trying to be the Vanessa version of Christina’s ‘Ain’t No Other Man’. I don’t really know if growling/lowering your voice in order to sound urban/jazzy is really a more mature sound for her. It’s different- and not in a good way. It made me sad that the whole duration I kept thinking I’d love to hear Christina kill this song and give me shivers… this new single just left me feeling a bit let down. I hope the rest of the album is better than “Sneakernight” because I can’t say that I loved it.

Just want to state my case here. Umbrella ,ella,ella,eh, eh sounded silly and absurd when it came out but look where it has taken Rihanna now. Well, forget about the lyrics. Sneaker Night is a fun,hip,dance song and I love Vanessa’s vocals here.
I’m also in my 50’s,not a granny yet . I love watching MTV and Channel V, so am in sync with all the happenings and latest songs and dance numbers. I say this is a hit with me. I totally agree with my good pal, Kgg. Kudos to Vanessa for daring to take the risk and I absolutely love this song.
Just can’t please everyone, people criticize her for her little girl’s voice but when she sings in a mature, soulful voice, they say she’s a wannabe. As far as I’m concerned, she’s matured somewhat and I’ll definitely buy her album. Her first album was good listening, it grew on me. Personally I loved the song, and her voice, I think she sounds amazing and more matured, I also think that it resembled ‘Let’s Dance’ in a way and I do believe that it could have the same potential as a great dance song. Answer: very few, I mean, look at Rihanna’ dance songs, ‘Please don’t stop the music’, ‘Pon de Re Play’ (or w/e it’ called), ‘shut up and drive’ and then of course it’s ‘Umbrella’ neither which have the lyrics being the reason that people are listening to them, then there are other songs like MC Hammers ‘Can’t touch this’, Britney Spears ‘I’m a Slay 4 you’, Justin Timberlake’s ‘Sexy Back’, Nelly Furtados ‘Man Eater’, even Vanessa’s best friend Ashley Tisdale’s ‘He said, she said’, heck even some of Madonna’s dance songs doesn’t have meaningful lyrics, my point is, that you shouldn’t bash Vanessa for them, heck, she didn’t even write them.
She also said that there would be a few more meaningful songs (Jazz kind) and then also another dance song with a ¾ beat. I’m really looking forward to hear her new album.

Music is only disrespcted as an art form when people try to make it conform to certain standards instead of giving it the freedom it deserves.

I think one of the biggest problems with the haters—-apart from the fact they just want to say something hateful about Vanessa—IS the fact they probably NEVER once listened to the song. I think it would have been helpful too if everyone would have had the chance to listen to the interview. I have not gotten to listen to all the interview but Vanessa isn’t pretending this is some great musical masterpiece. It is suppose to be upbeat and fun. And as Boji and Steph and many others, including myself, have pointed out it is a dance song so the lyrics aren’t meant to make you have some big revelation about life. And if you don’t like this type music then you need to complain about MANY other singers out there right now.
Hopefully the entire interview and comments made by Vanessa will be on You Tube. I understand she mentioned how poor Zac will only have 9 days to learn dance routines for HSM3. That will be a lot of work since he often says he finds the dancing the hardest part of HSM.

I think it is kind of hard to judge this CD from just one release. Plus, I always find the song released first from a CD is far from being my favorite. In reference to Vanessa’s first CD there are two songs on it which are my favorites but were never released to my knowledge and didn’t really get any airplay. But that’s how I am in 90% of the cases—I always like some other songs better on a CD than the ones that get released.
I understand how some of you don’t like the song even when you are Vanessa fans—that’s understandable. But a lot of you who are just hateful and insulting are doing it because you just want to be negative towards Vanessa. You’d never admit if you thought it was a good dance song or had a good beat or if you thought ANYTHING was positive about it. For you people ALL has to be bad it it is connected to Vanessa and that is why it is hard to take your comments seriously. And believe me, it is very easy to tell which ones of you are strictly haters of this girl.

Frankly, I’ve never had a dog that didn’t get all excited over an upbeat song. For that matter, unless a song was very smooth and quiet, no changing tones, etc, none of my dogs ever liked listening to music. With the way dogs are to different tones and frequencies and things like that, a dog isn’t really a good judge of music. Another ridiculous comment just to be judgmental towards Vanessa.

Cindy, I agree with you about enjoying different types of music. Definitely, it would not appeal to everybody but her vocals are great and the beat is funky and different. I love it for what it is and for her courage to try something different that is more her.
I played it for my friend who knows nothing about Vanessa and she thought it was very mature and edgy. She said she could see her husband totally rocking to it in a club or party.
I think if it gets enough airplay, it would have a wide appeal as it is the type of song that needs time to grow on people. That’s where we as fans come in requesting for it.

As for respecting the opinon of people who don’t like song opinion is concerned well I’ve seen a couple of intelligently written critiques posted here that I respect. I disagree with them but they give valid and well written reasons why they don’t like it so I respect those opinions. But somebody writes “This piece of **** made my ******* ears bleed. As a first single to promote the new album I think they missed the mark. It will be difficult to promote this single because all the voices are hers. To perform it live they will have to use back-up singers and people rarely like it when the live version is so drastically different from the studio version.Her voice sounds great, and I like the music, but this song I think will only be loved by those people that are fans now. I can’t see this song bringing any new fans in. I think to quiet the nay sayers they needed to release a song that made you go WOW fromthe first time you hear it. Most comments I have read people say it “grows” on you. This song should have been relaesed more towards the end, once people and been pulled in. Just my $.02 worth.
If you read the bill of rights, you will see that the freedom of speech ammendment does not cover statements that include obscenity, slander, profanity, and hate speech.
Comments that contain one or all of those, are the ones that Vanessa’s “cheerleaders” defend against.

You can’t judge a CD from one song but the first single set the tone of what to expect from the CD. If Vanessa wants to have a music career beyond HSM then she need to call J R Rotem, Scott Storch, Pharrell, Timbaland, and Ne-Yo. Vanessa has a good voice but she seriously need better songs.
#418 J.R. Rotem apparently produced this song so she has called him. As far as Timbaland goes there was talk of him doing something on the album what happened with that I don’t know but there was talk.
I would say #417 is one example of why Vanessa’s “cheerleaders are here.
