OlderLuke MacFarlane: I’m Gay
Canadian actor Luke MacFarlane reveals that he is gay in an exclusive interview with Canadian paper Globe and Mail.
“I don’t know what will happen professionally,” MacFarlane said. “That is the fear, but I guess I can’t really be concerned about what will happen, because it’s my truth. … There is this desire in L.A. to wonder who you are and what’s been blaring for me for the last three years is how can I be most authentic to myself - so this is the first time I am speaking about it in this way.”
In next month’s season finale of Brothers & Sisters, Luke, 28, will suit up and say his vows as his character, Scotty Wandell, marries his partner, Kevin Walker.
“From a standing outside perspective, and also as someone who is gay, I think that it’s a very exciting time,” MacFarlane said. “How exciting that we’re saying, ‘This can be part of the cultural fabric, now,’ because it is two series regulars, two people that you invite into your home and you see every week. It’s telling of the beginning of more waves and I’m very proud of that.”
When asked whether or not he was currently dating anyone, Luke declined to comment. And although Luke is not a paparazzi favorite, photogs did catch him hanging out with Prison Break hottie Wentworth Miller last summer.

Good for him. I don’t think he was really ‘in’ the closet in the way that some others are, so I guess this is him making it official for whatever reason.
It’s good to see a cute gay guy, with actual sex symbol potential, come out, as I think the pressure on these actors to stay closeted is particularly strong. It will be interesting to see how his career fares now, and if he still gets offered straight roles after being both out and playing a gay character on TV for a number of years. I hope he does - it wouldn’t bother me one bit to see him playing a straight character in a romantic role.
Whatever, all due respect to him for this choice and for being so eloquent about the issue. He seems like a really intelligent guy and a great catch for whomever he chooses to spend his time with.

I honestly don’t understand why it’s such a big deal when people come out. My input is always if that’s who you are fine, okay good. Gay people shouldn’t have the fear of coming out. It’s who you are, let it shine!

Because, Esther, straight people aren’t afraid to live their lives openly and don’t have to fear discrimination for simply being who they are. And because of rampant heterosexism that presumes everyone is straight when not everyone is. I had a professor in University and a student asked (the prof was gay) why they have gay pride parades but there are no straight pride parades. My professor’s reply? “Every day is a straight pride parade.”
Straight people don’t have to come out. Being straight is always IN… It is the perceived norm. Therefore, until you come out or state that you are gay;people assume that you are straight. This is why people come out.

Additionally, I don’t think he “came out” per-say. He just said he was gay in an article. We should be able to say that we are gay and people not be confused as to why we want to mention it in a conversation.
Ester, the issue of “Coming Out” is only present when there are questions surrounding his statement of being gay. Why did they even ask a follow up question? There will be no need to “Come Out” the day that someone doesn’t ask a follow up question to me saying that I have a boyfriend.

Considering that Hollywood will most likely kill Luke’s career like they have so many others, this makes me sad. Will he now only get to play the *gay best friend* and never the lead or other roles? I don’t think it necessarily hurt a career.. unless you’re cast in cheesy romantic movies. I think if you look very vanilla like Mc Farlane, being gay can actually be a good thing because some people associate gayness with something dark, therefore he could be offered darker, more complex roles.

If you’re going to speculate then probably best to speculate about accurate dates. Luke’s father died on the 14th December, the family received friends at the funeral chapel on the 18th (same day as the pics of Went shopping) and the funeral itself was held on the 19th.

On an ET Canada interview (June 2006) when asked if he has time to see anyone special, and Went said he’d like to have a wife and kids down the line. There was no need for him to even say that. He could have said, “I hope to find someone special, but right now, work is my priority.” He volunteered the wife and kids info.

BUT I have a question: If Wentworth is straight as he says, then WHERE ARE HIS WOMEN??????
I mean, I would expect to see him caught by paparazis kissing a woman , or hanging out with women. We saw him at Emmy’s 2006 with a woman and then with Amie Bice in 2007 just once, and all that in almost two years time. I find it kind of strange….
Plus, he hasn’t mentioned any long relationship from past. He’s 36 years old.

To add to Cee Cee’s comment. If your going to be posting blind gossip on this site, as though it were fact. Then you should get all of your “facts” straight. In post #98, you have Wentworth in a relationship with this Mark Lidell since last January. How could that be when according to P.H, Went has been dating Luke since that time. Are we to believe that Went was seeing both men at the same time. If so then I guess not only is Went gay, but he’s a **** as well.

Wentworth in interviews has stated that he is not interested in hanging out in any of the Hollywood hotspots. Stating that the clubs and what not are really not his scene. Chances are that the reason he has not been seen on dates is because when his schedule permits, the dates he goes on are in out of the way places. Or at least places not usually frequented by other celebrities. Just a theory.

Wentworth Miller could be gay or not gay, who cares?
I have no idea if he is or isnt. I do know a few things, being friends with a gay person does not make you gay.
I also know that saying you are not gay, is not the same thing as actually NOT being gay.
So to everyone who keeps saying that he said he isn’t gay so he must not be… Lets be honest, that isn’t necessarily true. I’m not saying it’s a lie either. Who knows other than Went and the people he is shagging.
IF WM was gay and he “came out” it could potentially hurt his career. Could hurt Prison Break. It’s sad but it’s true. So there is the potential motivation behind keeping a gay lifestyle secret.
Either way, gay or straight, it’s really none of anyones business and there is nothing wrong with him being private about who he dates, man or woman.

The point is that we have no good reason to doubt his word. You can never be 100 per cent certain about anyones sexual orientation but we don’t go around accusing people of lying about it all the time. Why should we doubt Wentworth when there’s absolutely no reason to.
The rumours are just rumours. There’s nothing to back them up.
