OlderLuke MacFarlane: I’m Gay
Canadian actor Luke MacFarlane reveals that he is gay in an exclusive interview with Canadian paper Globe and Mail.
“I don’t know what will happen professionally,” MacFarlane said. “That is the fear, but I guess I can’t really be concerned about what will happen, because it’s my truth. … There is this desire in L.A. to wonder who you are and what’s been blaring for me for the last three years is how can I be most authentic to myself - so this is the first time I am speaking about it in this way.”
In next month’s season finale of Brothers & Sisters, Luke, 28, will suit up and say his vows as his character, Scotty Wandell, marries his partner, Kevin Walker.
“From a standing outside perspective, and also as someone who is gay, I think that it’s a very exciting time,” MacFarlane said. “How exciting that we’re saying, ‘This can be part of the cultural fabric, now,’ because it is two series regulars, two people that you invite into your home and you see every week. It’s telling of the beginning of more waves and I’m very proud of that.”
When asked whether or not he was currently dating anyone, Luke declined to comment. And although Luke is not a paparazzi favorite, photogs did catch him hanging out with Prison Break hottie Wentworth Miller last summer.

Considering that Hollywood will most likely kill Luke’s career like they have so many others, this makes me sad. Will he now only get to play the *gay best friend* and never the lead or other roles? What a waste of a talented actor. He seems very nice and certainly he is cute. As far as WEM, I have read on several of his fansites the following:
“I will hate him if he is”
If he is , he is a liar and I will no longer like him”
“He lied to me and I will not watch the show and be so disappointed”
“If he is, he has lost this fan”
“I find it disgusting, I hope he is not, that is just ewww”
and so on and these were from various pro WEM sites. Imagine that !
If he is and I have no idea, it does not matter to me. I understand how hateful the world is towards the gay community. It’s so horrific to me that actors and actresses cannot be openly gay and be considered for straight roles, its acting afterall. I cannot imagine not being able to be who I am and make a living in my chosen field also. That my God given self is considered wrong.
Congatulations to Luke, I can’t wait to see you in more, have watched you since “Over There” you are great on Brothers and Sisters and I wish you the best.

I’m really just upset because I didn’t want his character to marry Kevin. I wanted Kevin and Rob Lowe’s brother to get back together… Oh well : (

Wow. I didn’t realize that being friends with a gay person suddenly made you gay. I must stop being friends with all of my gay friends now for fear that people will assume I’m gay.
We don’t know for sure whether Wentworth Miller is gay or not. He may or may not be. But just because he’s friends with someone who IS gay doesn’t mean he automatically is.

Thanks for the satire sona, pointing out this irony though humorously. I don’t know why straight men are automatically labeled that they too are gay, and no one wants to be called something or not. Luckily, some straight men are comfortable in their own skin and will ignore these blanket assertions.

I don’t think it necessarily hurt a career.. unless you’re cast in cheesy romantic movies. I think if you look very vanilla like Mc Farlane, being gay can actually be a good thing because some people associate gayness with something dark, therefore he could be offered darker, more complex roles.
Besides that, look at Ian McKellen.. he’s the old actor who gets all the great parts, and he’s openly gay

Wentworth is gay, when Perez was talking to Adamo Ruggiero, from Degrassi, about his coming out, Perez said that Wentworth went out with a good friend of his. But, who cares if he is or not? Everyone is free to be who they are, if only WW wasn’t afraid to be who he is.
