Although I love Vanessa and think she’s talented and beatutiful, recently I don’t like her interviews at all. For example, in Seventeen magazine she claimed herself ‘more than just a pretty face’ and last week she said she ‘loved her new album’ and ‘listened to it all the time’. In this interview she thinks paparazzi are the measure of stardom. Hell, no!

I know that we have to believe in ourselves and concentrate on our positive features but for me it’s a bit much of her. I mean it’s cool that she knows her true identity and proud of herself (which is understandable and I’m very proud of her too) but I think she should let other people praise her work/character/skills/etc.

Let’s think about Zac, as an opposite example. In Details he said that he doesn’t hate the paps, however could live without them. Or watch the video interview for the same magazine he made in February where he said he was just a ’small-town guy’ who was ’still growing up’. I know that he’s older than Vanessa but he also seems much more mature sometimes. I mean he kind of respects his background more and knows exactly where he comes from.

I think Vanessa has to learn to be a bit more modest. Because in the end it’s better to be humble than cocky. Confidence is a real treasure, something that many people don’t feel but confidence isn’t the answer to everything: sometimes it’s better to back off and give the audience moderate but still true answers. Just like Zac does.

I love you Vanessa, I really do. I’m your fan and want only the best for you that’s why I warn you now. I understand your ‘confident, independent young woman’ image but please think about your future and be a little more level-headed. Thank you.

PS. Did Details seriously ask her about her scandal back in last Spetember? Please! I can understand if she’s fed up with this topic. But I think before everyone goes to an interview the managers and the representatives of the press sit down and talk about the topics they can cover. Why cannot they move on from the pics she made and concentrate on her career? And why cannot her manager save her from questions like that? I have no idea… But I hope people would forget about this issue some day because now it’s really boring and annoying at the same time.

Vanessa everytime you open your mouth you prove to the world just how stupid you are. Go away, boring child.

I really don’t think Vanessa is trying to come off as cocky. I think she’s naturally courageous, confident and strong, and that’s what has helped her get through the negatives and has brought her as far as she’s come and will take her even further.

She’s always said how grateful she is for all her fans and the way they stand up for her. She acknowledges that without her fans, she wouldn’t be where she is today. She’s just 19 and is not quite as polished as Zac at giving interviews, but she is just as sincere - even though it sometimes doesn’t come out that way. So let’s cut her some slack….she’ll get better. Wishing her all the best and I will always stand up for her.

P.S. Maybe we need to wait until the entire interview in Details comes out before we pass judgment.

About her referring to herself as not another pretty face: Anyone of you there in the real world know if you are attractive or not—you know, what I mean, if the general public sees you as good looking. You don’t have to sing “I’m so pretty” but if you try to say, “I’m not that good looking” then that doesn’t come off as being very truthful either. When she made the reference to “not just another pretty face” she didn’t dwell on the fact she is pretty. It was more like “there are numerous pretty faces in this town, I know it, but I want people to know I can be more than what so many other people are too in this town—pretty faces are a dime a dozen.” She didn’t make it sound like she thought she was the PRETTIEST or the ONLY one who is pretty. So, I don’t see that comment as being so cocky.

As for Zac, when he says things like there are many others who have brown hair and blue eyes, it makes him sound very modest, that’s true. BUT I’m sure the young man knows he is attractive—he has a mirror. And it is easy for him to say the line about there are others with brown hair and blue eyes because it is so true. That sounds like a very common description. WIth Vanessa it is a little different because she doesn’t have the same type look. She is not the ordinary dark brown-haired girl with brown eyes. Like so many say, she has a more exotic look about her due to her mixed heritage—and it makes her stand out.

Lastly, about Details asking her about photo, just be assured that 10 years from now when she does an interview with some big magazine, someone will most likely ask that question or bring it up in the narrative. I remember Barbara Walters saying once when she was getting ready to do an interview with Lawrence Olivier how he told her he would NOT answer any questions about Vivian Leigh and if any were asked that he would leave the interview and it would be over. You know what? At the end of the interview, even Barbara Walters asked Olivier about Vivian Leigh. I guess they just can’t help themselves and tehy think they are smart because like Walters, she left the question until after she got the rest of the interview. What Sir Larry should have said, IF you ask me a question about this at anytime during the interview then you will forfeit the ENTIRE interview and not get to air any of it.

i like Vanessa but I totally agree with some of your comments about her answers during her interviews. Her answers are answers of a teenager - which she is. She tells it just like it is. Maturity comes with age and experience. Just give her time and she’ll be rockin’ her interviews.

#59- Thank you for saying your opinion in such a mature manner :) I know others won’t agree, and in all honesty I don’t know where I stand but it was refreshing to see a candid point of view without resorting to name calling/being nit-picky.

I’m going to try saying this without shooting myself in the foot but I think that Zac is favored in the media. I’m not thinking he has asked for this, or seeks it. But, because he is rather reserved, he has been featured on a few prestigious covers (Rolling Stones and Details), and he is very tight lipped about his girlfriend, it’s almost as if there’s this sort of element of mystery to him.

I am NOT saying Vanessa puts it all out there, but she is usually very happy, smiles for the paparazzi, she’ll laugh a lot when out in public, and her demeanor is more… girly/cutsey. The attention on her (as I’ve seen it, you all may disagree) is about her personal life: where she shops, her “scandal”, her famous friends (remember when she and Ashley tried to go to McDonalds? Scary!), and her boyfriend. I am generalizing, because I know there are interviews about her career and music, but even in the last Seventeen that she was on the cover of, most of the questions were about Zac and her scandal. Even if more mature magazines came along asking for the cover, I fear they still might only want to talk about Zac, her scandal, and maybe throw in a good quote or two about a movie/song for good measure, since they have a magazine to sell and asking her all the standard questions might be viewed as boring.

And I don’t think it’s that Vanessa/Zac ask for thingsto be that way, but it’s how the media is kind of presenting the two. Zac is the mature, talented, driven actor (and I agree, he is talented) and Vanessa is… the giggly girlfriend he met on the set of HSM who had a really embarassing situation happen.

I’m not sure what’s up with the portrayal of their roles in society, but that’s the picture I see being painted.

#98 i think she’s just generalizing fame/celebrity, but you can tell she hates the paparazzi around her 24/7. who wouldn;t get annoyed.

I’ve mentioned this before but the paps seem much more aggressive with Vanessa than they do with Zac. When Vanessa is with Asley or even when she is with Ally, the paps seem to think they can put camera lenses up to their windows and follow them into stores. When she is with Zac they keep a healthy distance. There have been pictures of Zac and Vanessa at McDonald’s but the paps were up at the car window or trying to order for them as they went through the drive-thru. When there were pictures of Zac and Vanessa shopping one night in the mall there were pictures of them hand-in-hand walking outside or in the mall but not inside the store.

I’ve seen Jessica Biel give the paps heck for being on top of her while all she is doing is walking along but this doesn’t happen when she is with her boyfriend. What, are the paps more afraid a guy is going to take a swing at them? Then maybe the girls should start doing the same, but then they would get a bad reputation for having a bad attitude. Really, does ANYONE have to tell these people NOT to be so intrusive? Whether or not you like Britney Spears or if you think she “asks for it” with the paps, those guys are adults and should know enough not to be so close to a car that the person can’t move. That is invading that person’s space and things like that should be against the law. In Hollywood it better become a law before someone gets seriously hurt.

I think we need to see the entire article before we can say exactly what was Vanessa was trying to say. Like Malia says these answers make little sense without knowing the questions. Sara I agree that that someone is trying to betray Zac as the mature one and Vanessa as the giggly girlfriend. They ask questions to get the answers they want. My friends and I were interviewed once in high school for the news, when it came out they had edited us to the point that what we said on TV was the opposite of what we actually said.

I can’t wait for all the interview because people only look at these quotes and try to find something negative about what she is saying.
If they took time to look at what she is saying it’s how she is NOT singing songs about being oh so hot and how all the boys want her. That is not what her album is about but if someone wants to find issues with her they will.

As has been pointed out Vanessa’s comments are posted without context so I don’t its fair to judge what she means or what she thinks. As far as her comment about the paparazzi goes I remember in the video where the paps surround her while she’s getting gas she’s asked how she likes the attention she says “I don’t.” And there were bunch of saying posts saying “If the paps weren’t interested in her she wouldn’t be anyone.” She was ungrateful.

She acknowledges that fact and she’s a spoiled brat. I agree with kgg I think she is very unpolished when it comes to interviews. I think she’s just a blunt shoot-from-the-hip kind of a person. That in my opinion is one of her endearing qualities but it doesn’t always come across well in print. On the other hand I think some people are just bound and determined to take offense at ANYTHING and EVERYTHING she says. She could say “Grass is green and water is wet” and people would jump all over her case saying “What a cocky little ****. Like she knows anything about nature. PLEASE!”

As far as her being so-called Cocky or over-confident - Let’s be real, most of the reason why actors are actors is #1, they’re talented (whether by little or by alot) and #2, because they’re all beautiful and photogenic. There is nothing wrong with what she said in the interview (if it was taken in context) she was being honest.. and at the same time confident. She’s not going to play dumb and pretend to be modest and say anything else differently. Get real… she did!

lilly, with all due respect, why should she have to explain herself to anyone? To be honest, if she does that, there are people that will come out and say something negative towards it anyway. Do you know what I mean? These naysayers are mostly tweens or young adults that are completely immature and rude at best. They will not care what she will say or the explanations to her actions. First and foremost… she’s an actress, she does not have to explain her actions or owe anyone any apologies. The apologies she’s made, she’s made on her own decisions.. but that doesn’t mean she HAD to do it.

Bottom line is, her fans will love her inspite of it all and her haters will hate her no matter what she says. That’s just the way the cookie crumbles… :)

I’m probably one of the few that prefer Vanessa’s interviews to Zac’s.

Like others have mentioned above, Zac is very rehearsed in his interviews and does not give out much about himself and that’s why when you go to his threads, it’s just filled with comments like ‘he’s hot!’ because that’s all people see. His fans haven’t really gotten to know him (probably why many don’t understand his choices in his personal life.) Now and then, flashes of his personality come out in interviews but the occurrences are few. Even though I’m a fan, I don’t rush to read his interviews because they are basically PR and I’m always left feeling any other young actor could have given that interview with no difference.

Like Troy mentioned, Vanessa says it as it is and I love that but it comes across better listened to than read ( like the radio disney interview). Unfortunately, as she grows older and continues in Hollywood, she’ll have to learn to give rehearsed interviews like Zac (as Keanu Reeves said, he had to learn that to survive with the media). I only hope she strikes a balance, giving carefully worded answers without completely loosing her personality and spontaneity which is very endearing.

Having said that, I don’t see anything wrong with the quotes above. She has just decided to take a positive spin on the paps rather than whining. It doesn’t come across as cocky to me.
I love her response about the scandal. Now, that is a matured answer. She refused to rise to the bait and address it just as she doesn’t acknowledge nor address all the rumors that float around about her.

I never said anything about explanations. I think there were nothing wrong she did that needed an apology. She made it and I accept it but I cannot see the real reason behind it.

I try to express my ideas once more, maybe I wasn’t clear enough. I know that there are many haters out there and some of them will never change their minds at all. I think she should say things in a more clever way because in a sentence like I’m ‘more than a pretty face’ she gives the haters too much opportunity for saying bad things and hurts herself by creating a ‘ambiguous’ image whithout real intention. If I were Vanessa Hudgens, I would give truthful and real interviews without any traces of ambiguity to shut my haters up.

But that was only my suggestion and you don’t have to agree at all.

hmm… i had to look at this picture a couple of times before i got used to it. something about her hair & the black & white theme threw me off a bit. i actually like the picture now! when i first looked at it, her extensions made her hair look too thick for my taste & the black & white looked boring. but now it looks amazing to me LOL

Steph, I’m not going to bicker with you on the threads. I’m going to have to agree to disagree with you otherwise this could continue to go back and forth.

I agree with what a lot of you have said, you should always be careful and take everything you read/hear with a gain of salt and don’t believe all of it. And I think that both Zac and Vanessa does well in interview, like some have said, Vanessa seem to be more spontaneous and I’ve always loved her interviews, she always knows how to make people laugh, and I dunno what it is but she does seem to be very open and herself without giving away to much which is great, like take the Radio Disney interview from last week, I was laughing a lot because she does have that, she also have a contagious laugh/giggle. Zac’s interviews are great as well, however, I think that when you mention reserved and rehearsed I think you mean that the interviews never seem very new, it always seem to be somewhat they same questions and always the same answers which is sad, because Zac’s a funny guy, and also, people have more then once asked if some of his interviews are really real or if they have been copied from other sources which I can understand. With Vanessa we always find something new, like how she said that she played the drums and joked that it was good ‘anger-management’ and also when she tried to explain ¾ or w/e it’s called, and also when she said that she’s addicted to ‘Guitar Hero’ I loved hearing that and it does prove that you don’t have to ask the same questions and if you keep the interview light you definitely get more out of it.

I agree with you, I mean, I’ve had people telling me that I can’t dream and try to reach those dreams because they seem way to far of, and I know it’s not fun to hear and no one should have to, fine if you don’t like her, no one is forcing you to, and I must say, sometimes I do wonder what people were doing the day they gave out brains.
I also agree with what you said about how hard it must be for her to have people saying things like I wish that you didn’t exist and that Zac deserves better, and it’s sad, especially since I doubt that they would like to hear how they wouldn’t be right for their boyfriends (I bet that if someone would say that to them, they would say that it’s non of their business who their dating).

Wonder what question they asked her about the paparazzi. JJ has the ANSWER, but not the QUESTION, which is basically STUPID.

But he did that so people would say negative things about Vanessa. Yeah, more hits.

They must have asked her if it bothered her to have the paparazzi follow her or maybe how she deals with it. And she probably said MORE than the one sentence about them.

But, we’ll have to wait till the May issue of GQ hits the shelves. Or maybe someone who subscribes will scan the interview and we can post it on all the fan sites.

Really, I don’t know how people can get anything out of that statement without context. We don’t know what she was responding to and we don’t know it was her entire response. I agree with you both. I actually think that a lot of the most successful and talented people don’t have paparazzi following them around. Paparazzi isn’t about success, it’s about celebrity and notoriety and making money. I also see her becoming cocky and having a bad attitude. She seems to focus so much on things being “cute” and being “hot” and I think she’s quite immature and shallow. I used to think she was real, but now (particularly since the fall) I see her as being fake most of the time, and not being a person that I would ever look up to, or want to spend any time with in my life.

#208 I have two things to say about your question A) I don’t BELIEVE she ever said anything of the sort. The “interview” in which she supposedly said that read like a bunch of disconnected quotes chained together. There was no author’s name attributed to that “Interview” either. I’ve studied journalism and believe me reporters like to be credited for for their work.

Plus the week that article saw print TV GUIDE Channel aired a program listing the Top 10 Teen Idols and Vanessa was ranked Number #4. They showed footage of her saying the complete oppostite of what that article claims she said.

And B) You claim she doesn’t seem very gracious. Just go to the thread on this very site of returning to LAX from New York getting off the plane and being mobbed by multiple autograph seekers and signing them. If that’s not being very gracious I guess I don’t know what is.

You can tell by the way Vanessa laughs and giggles she enjoys things and is free-spirited. Many people who are more restrained, like Paula said, find that refreshing. And Zac himself has said of Vanessa, “She makes everything sparkle”. He probably feels her joy and enthusiasm and it affects him in a good way. People like to be around those who make them feel “lifted up” and happy. She probably makes him feel energetic.

Anyway,as far as the haters go..what ever Vanessa said wouldn’t be right.All that jealousy isn’t healthy.!!!!!

JJ has as lot to answer for on this one,his post is obvioulsy worded for maximum effect.No mention of the questions asked,or even the full answers….selective,but effective.

As far as Vanessa goes,she’s a confident,exuberant person and that comes across in her interviews.She does ‘tell it like it is’,but I don’t think thats a problem.In time she’ll learn to maybe be more careful in what she says.

I think that Zac and Vanessa complement each other as Zac has said before that sometime’s he can be a bit quiet and so need’s another person to be upbeat around him when he get’s like that.

Can’t remeber weather it was said in a magazine interview or an other interview, but I think that Vanessa’s sense of fun and the love of what she does certainly show’s through and the amount of time Zac smiles in her direction when they’re together anybody only has to watch The Road To High School Musicals to see how Vanessa’s smile make’s him smile too, and has he said in his own words’ helook’s across and see’s her big old smile on Vanessa’s face and it kinda makes him forget he’s dancing for a minute’ that to me tells you a lot about his feelings for Vanessa and the way she look’s at him says the same.

I don’t think she comes across as being cocky, I think you can tell she’s still not fully comfortable doing interviews but again that will change as time goes on, as it’s been said Zac has had more time to get used to it, but like with Vanessa we only see the side of them they want us to see and only let their guard down very slightly when answering anything regarding theitr relactionship and that has only been recent like Zac’s comment about ‘ date night’ again he was beaming when he said that Vanessa was there with him.

Love the photo of Vanessa as well she look’s really pretty, balck and white certainly look’s good on her.

And she’s right about the photo thing it’s done with now. So it’s about time certain people stopped bringing it up on site’s, Vanessa I’m sure know’s that it will always be in he background but at least she’s not dwellng on it and letting it stop her try other things and that’s good.

Also this is only a snippet of a interview and we all know how words can get twised round in the press so maybe it’s best to actually get the magazine and read it all first ut saying that I am convinced that it was’nt meant to come out the way it has, and after all she is still growing, after all even when your fuly grown up you can still think one thing and it does’nt always come out the right way when you say it and you realize that maybe you should have worded it better, but that’s part of learning how to answer questions.
