OlderDoug Pitt to Brother Brad: Let’s Care to Learn!
Doug Pitt, the younger brother of Hollywood actor Brad Pitt is speaking out about his “Care to Learn” Project, which is all about kids’ health, hunger and hygiene.
Says Doug, “The idea was to help kids that show up on a school day with an immediate need. We need to get to them quick, obviously. So we set up this fund to do just that. Last week, we had a kid need clothes and food. And within 20 minutes - from the phone call - counselors, teachers, principals, make a call to the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools. And they’re on it. They now have the funds to address that urgent need.”

Thank you! I turned 45 today (Brad and me are born in the same year) and I am a huge fan of his and all his family, just amazing to me, how much love they have found with each other.
I lived in Springfield/MO for 6 years and part of my heart still is there, very glad to hear the Pitt’s are giving back to the comunity.
People there are kind and very helpful and this is IMHO the reason, Brad is so down to earth.

It was probably one of the best places they have been to the past couple of years for peace and quiet and very little gawking from people n the streets. I thought NYC last fall was the worst esp where Maddox went to school. This time around , I don’t think we saw a single photo of the kids at their respective schools.

Texas is a good state. Houston took in a lot of Katrina victims and many still lived there. Austin seem to have been a good place for the Jolie-Pitts. New York was quite the scene. Seeing the people clapping and cheering was mind blowing. The travel adventures of the Jolie-Pitts. Stay tune for next destination. Peace to all.

you are totally right - nothing yummier. :D I think Doug is cute and I love his drawl. This program will do great things for the kids that are helped. I read an article about this program and Doug said he had heard about kids having to share a toothbrush with their siblings. Nobody should have to share something as simple as a toothbrush - This program will address needs big and small.
What an absolute sweetheart Doug Pitt is. But it is not surprising….he is Brad’s brother after all.
And what wonderful people Mr and Mrs Pitt must be to have raised such wonderful, compassionate, generous, aware and and family oriented children.
This is a great idea, the teachers in the classroom can see who really needs the help. I have a friend who is a teacher and I give her extra money for her students who can’t afford the field trips or supplies or whatever, it’s not much but it does help. I wish every school system had this.

This is a good program to assist school kids. There are times when little things can make a huge difference, whether it is a hot lunch or a pair of shoes.

It’s sad when something which is intended to do good is destroyed as a result of a power struggle. I wonder if it was the result of particular personalities who had to work together and COULDN’T or whether there were fundamental problems with the values of the program.

That was the problem in a nutshell. The basic premise of the program was excellent. The problem was the school personnel who insisted on controlling every single aspect of the program and ultimately sabotaged it by withholding referrals.

I absolutely love this project. What a great thing to do, I see kids at my daughter’s school all the time who could benefit from something like this. Doug is right, kids are kids….whether they are form Africa, America, Egypt…wherever…HUGE props to Doug Pitt for doing this and props to Brad for backing his brother up.

My teachers daughters found out he was in Shawnee for a family reunion and they followed him to the house, asked for a pic, but said no (I don’t blame them) and then they followed him to the airport and saw them leave!! Since it’s a slow night…I’ll post a little info on this week’s OuttaTouch story - “Brad Gets Porky”.
Okay…that’s not really the title of the story, but y’all have GOT to stop putting ideas out there for the fevered brains of the tabloid writers to use for their stupid stories. Because people were saying that Brad looked “fat” on AI…OuttaTouch has written a story about his “sympathy weight gain”. Their obligatory “friend of Brad’s” says Brad told him in a phone call that he’s got “love handles”. That’s a bold move from OuttaTouch. They usually go for second and third-hand quotes from “insiders” and “pals”…but they’re claiming a friend of Brad’s told them this directly. As. Fcuking. If. And if a friend of his really did do that…you can bet your ass they aren’t a FOB anymore.
The geniuses at OuttaTouch use this photo to show us a “thin” Brad and said BAAK (Before Angie And Kids) he used to work out 5 days a week…mainly to get the hell away from X (okay…I threw this part in…)…

Naturally you’re saying to yourself, “Gee, I wonder how OuttaTouch says Brad got so fat?” well…lemme tell ya…it’s that darned “sympathy eating”. cuz ya know Angie is eating for two and OuttaTouch’s shrinxpert says the husband gaining weight is a common occurance because they tend to indulge in the “cravings” along with the baby mama. Yes, they actually had a shrinxpert to relay this NOVEL IDEA to their readers because none of them have ever been pregnant or heard of sympathy eating before.
Now that we’ve establed the how and why of Brad’s eating…let’s talk about the WHAT. It seems that Brad and Angie “are hooked on his famous banana milk shakes”. Yes, that’s right…they are conveniently hooked on one of the few foods that either has publicly admitted having a weakness for or for being able to make. Presumably they didn’t go with chocolate (Angie’s a known chocoholic) because they used THAT food for the Shiloh pregnancy. So now we’re on to Brad’s banana milkshakes. As we all know, Angie’s hooked on Brad’s shakes, but they ain’t banana and their 100% protein. However…that’s neither here nor there…
So there’s Brad and Angie in Tejas…slammin’ down banana milk shakes EVERY NIGHT. But…it’s not limited to just the milk shakes. According to OuttaTouch although Angie is usually a “very healthy eater” she is giving in to all her food cravings and they frequently follow the milkshakes with…get this…not one, but TWO bags of potato chips for a whopping total of “over 2,500 calories” in one sitting! Yep. That’s right…Brad and Angie are scarfing down milkshakes and potato chips every night and that’s why Brad is vying for Biggest Gut In Hollywood alongside Vince Vaughn. (BTW - Thank you very much Jared, I could have lived a hell of a long time without seeing VV’s big white booze belly. Somebody call Ahab and tell him to get his boat and harpoon out again.)
Because OuttaTouch doesn’t know when to quit they also claim that because Brad and Angie don’t cook they have a fondness for fast foods and that’s also taking a toll on Brad’s girlish figure. Plus, Brad will order a pizza for the kids…and another one for himself, then get a pile of DVDs and put his feet up and have himself a big ole feast. Then once the kids go to bed, after having eating a whole pizza by himself (no, they didn’t specify S, M, L or Killer Whale size) Brad will finish off the kid’s pizza, too. OuttaTouch says that Angie has warned Brad to go easy on the grub, but Brad just laughs it off because “he thinks it’s funny” because “he knows he’s not going to get obese”. Mmm-hhmmm, Brad. Famous last words. That’s just what Orson Welles said in 1928 and Marlon Brando in 1962. And look what happened to those two - Fatter and Fatterer.

Their are alot of kids who go to school with out having food to eat especially the indian children here in okla.because they are poor and they don’t like the welfare to get involved.They are afraid of getting in trouble are getting the kids taken away.The ones on reservations are better off than the ones in the city,because on reservation they have food commidities.The mexican children get more help than the indian children or poor white or black children.People don’t like to get involved with the system.My son was a coach at a poor school so i know,alot of kids lived out school district who lived with grandparents but had to say lived at their moms house to stay in district.alot of parents are on drugs and alchohol,and these kids ride city buses or walk to school,but don’t give real addresses.they will take help but not from goverment.they are afraid of child welfare,which its the parents fault not the kids..so i’m proud of Doug Pitt give a jacket but don’t let everyone know,and that way poor kids will accept…

Betty Russell’s second husband, who she married in the 50’s, died 12/03 but I’ve never seen anything about her death. She is in her mid 80’s IIRC. Maybe it is her birthday or some other hallmark date. It’s not exactly the normal time you see family plan reunions.

#114: I don’t know why it’s always the government’s fault when parents don’t take good care of their kids because they’re on drugs, ignorant, suspicious of everyone or simply too lazy to get work. If a place doesn’t work for you, go and find another.
If millions of illegal immigrants can find work and send enough money to their families back home, why can’t the people who have been born here with all their opportunities? Government agencies are practically begging to give away food stamps to anybody as well as shelter for the homeless (who wouldn’t leave the streets cause they can’t get drunk or take drugs) but there are still those who complain they are hungry and disenfranchised. These from the mouths of the same poor people who laugh at the ones breaking their necks trying to reel them in. All you had to do is say you’ve got depression and mental health agencies race to get you in their “programs”. They should move here to CA where soup kitchens are in a tizzy to find the hungry and food banks ply you with not just enormous amounts of groceries and other essentials but even food for your pets!
Why anybody would go hungry here where food are thrown out by the truckloads everyday and where obesity is a problem is beyond me.
I am glad that Brad’s family is now on the “giving” spirit hopefully inspired by Angie’s efforts around the globe. They are a loving and generous family. Angie is lucky to be with them and vice-versa.

It’s so funny. The fanistons and haters are in the habit of talking out of their azz about The Pitt family and Angie, yet the truth of the matter is…in 2 years of dating, and roughly 4 years of marriage, I’ve seen one pic of Maniston with Brad’s parents, one pic of her with Jane after Brad dumped her and I’d never seen her with Doug Pitt or Brad’s sister and sister in law (Doug’s wife). I personally think that one reason why it was not overly difficult for Brad to cut ties, was because while Maniston can do the phony warm thing, lots of hugs and mewly mouth pandering — it wasn’t genuine and authentic. Other than surface, I don’t think she had much of a relationship with his family. I recall one interview where she said emphatically that they don’t visit families at holidays.
Yet in the short time AJ and Brad have been together, Angie & the fam have visited the family at holidays enumerabe times, the family has visited with the JPs (in Nola, LA, TX, NYC, etc), they watch the children, they’ve joined them at museums and aquariums (pics of Lisa and Julie carrying Zahara and Pax), they all were out to eat just a few weeks back (Doug, Angie Brad and Mad), and the list goes on and on and on.

“I have known Jen for years and she is an awesome woman,” Berkus told us at the launch of Belvedere vodka’s “Jagger Dagger.” (In case you were wondering what that means: Mick Jagger’s daughter Jade has designed a fancy ice pick.)

WASHINGTON — Pope Benedict XVI ended a prayer service for bishops Wednesday evening by acknowledging “the immense suffering endured by the people of God in the Archdiocese of New Orleans as a result of Hurricane Katrina.”
He then presented a silver chalice to New Orleans Archbishop Alfred Hughes as “a sign of my prayerful solidarity with the faithful of the Archdiocese and my personal gratitude for the tireless devotion which he and (former) Archbishops Philip Hannan and Francis Schulte showed toward their flock entrusted in their care.”
The presentation of the chalice, the cup used during the celebration of the Mass, culminated an eventful day that began with a sun-drenched welcoming ceremony Wednesday morning at the White House attended by more than 13,000, including top congressional leaders and Bush administration officials.

As Robert Ford, Casey Affleck proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is one of the best actors working today (not to mention a much better actor than his brother). Affleck takes what could have been a whiny 19-year-old interloper and turns the character into a much more tragic figure, a young man who has the idyllic image of his hero shattered and who is forced to murder the man whom he respects more than any other. The film transcends its traditional Western genre and instead becomes not only a meditation on fame and the glorification of celebrity, but also about the tragic loss of youthful innocence.

A fascinating reception at Swanson Reed Gallery on April 11 celebrated the success of their Pink Project exhibit, which raised money to rebuild New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward, devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
National and regional artists joined Louisiana-based artists to create images reflecting Brad Pitt’s Pink Project. The Pink Project included 150 randomly scattered framework houses covered by solar lighted pink fabric that glowed at night.

I have been humbled, overjoyed and, at times, brought to tears by their ability to cope, even smile and play, despite their tragedy. For the past two years, we have followed the lives of the Hussein sisters, Marwa, Aliya and Sora, orphaned and institutionalized after their parents were murdered in front of them northeast of Baghdad. When we returned last month to the Baghdad orphanage where they now live, my first impression was that the girls are stuck in time. I saw them in the same dining room eating the same lunch (rice with a little chicken and yogurt), playing the same games (basketball and ring around the rosy) in the same yard surrounded by (new) barred windows. But after visiting Marwa, Aliya and Sora for several days, it was clear their future is as uncertain as Iraq. Marwa has become a victim of her growing beauty. She’s only fifteen, but has matured physically and been forced to move to an orphanage for older girls. Now men are trying to marry her. Even her teachers are trying to set her up, believing it’s a good option – a future, a degree of stability — for an orphaned girl. In Iraqi culture orphans are often ostracized. Once they turn18, orphans sometimes end up on the streets. The younger Hussein girls, Sora and Aliya, miss their sister. She used to take care of them. They still have nightmares.

Some have even offered to open their own homes. Unfortunately, it is illegal under Iraqi law for foreigners to adopt Iraqi children, even Iraqi-Americans. Please also feel free to ask questions or comment directly on this blog. There are many causalities in Iraq – not least of which are the American soldiers and Iraqi civilians — but at times children are most vulnerable to the unpredictable vicissitudes of these violent and changing times of war.

Jennifer Garner and producing partner Juliana Janes have signed a first-look deal with Warner Bros. for their Vandalia Films banner.
Garner, who has worked with Janes for six years, has been looking to expand her role as a film producer. The pair have a development slate that includes the following:
A remake of the Japanese supernatural drama “Be With You.” Allan Loeb is penning the script, which centers on a woman who, after dying, returns for a brief second chance to figure out her purpose. Vandalia will produce alongside Jinks/Cohen.
“Arranged,” which was written by Loeb and is being revised by “Grey’s Anatomy” scribe Krista Vernoff. Story chronicles a modern-day arranged marriage of an unlikely couple whose fathers are friends from the old country. Gary Winick will direct, and Mark Gordon Co. and Scarlet Fire Films will also produce.
“Devil in the Junior League,” an adaptation of Linda Francis Lee’s novel written by Kate Kondell, which tells the story of a stuffy, Southern socialite whose husband disappears with another woman and the wife’s fortune. Film will be produced in association with Scott Stuber and Laura Hopper.
“Sabbatical,” which revolves around a couple in their seventh year of marriage who decide to take a two-week sabbatical from each other to inject some life back into their union. John Brownlow penned the script. Idealogy’s Sean Bailey is producing alongside Charles Weinstock.
“The Garden of Last Days,” which is based on a forthcoming book by Andrew Dubus III (”House of Sand and Fog”). Intellectual Property Group controls the book, which Vandalia will produce with an eye toward Garner starring. No writer has been set.
“3 Days in Europe,” a romantic adventure following a couple as they face danger and excitement on what was supposed to be the perfect Valentine’s Day vacation. Vandalia Films has partnered with Hugh Jackman and John Palermo of Seed Prods. to bring the graphic novel by Anthony Johnston and Mike Hawthorne to the bigscreen. Eric Gitter and Peter Schwerin are producing for Oni Press through their Closed on Mondays Entertainment banner, and Jackman and Garner are attached to star.

From IMDB-Supposely Brad, Angie and kids in Shawnee OK today.
My teachers daughters found out he was in Shawnee for a family reunion and they followed him to the house, asked for a pic, but said no (I don’t blame them) and then they followed him to the airport and saw them leave!! She said the kids were playing in the front yard and everyone was having a good time!! So sweet!! His family is very nice!! I live in a town right next to Shawnee but go to a tech school there!

I don’t know if Claudette Colbert had plastic surgery, much less bad plastic surgery, but what I was referring to was her fixation on the left side of her face.
When she became a recognized, viable star, she insisted that the left side of her face was her best side. As a consequence, the film crews had to indulge that idiosynchracy by shooting that side of her face all of the time. Needless to say, the set-ups and blocking had to be rearranged to accommodate her request. Her leading men had to accommodate her as well.
Heavens knows what happened if she was paired up with an actor whose best side may have compromised her best side.
Now if Claudette Colbert-type demands are made and are enthusiastically accommodated by Oprah and the Big Give gang, seriously, I will barf!! Because the show was supposed to be about charity, theoretically, and the contestants :roll: who accomplished some of their goals.

But Brad Pitt and his cohorts are hoping it will remind passersby of the thousands left homeless by Hurricane Katrina and the continued need for construction in those devastated areas of New Orleans.
Although 450 pink structures have been unveiled in the Lower Ninth Ward, this will be the first display outside New Orleans. The pink structures were conceived together through “The Pink Project” (part of Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation) and the Los Angeles architectural firm Graft as a symbol of the homes that remain to be rebuilt. The illuminated structures that resemble giant Monopoly houses are meant to refocus attention back on the affected neighborhood and to spur further donations.
The installation coincides with the opening of the “After the Flood: On Higher Ground” exhibit at the A+D Museum, which runs through June 27. The exhibit examines the devastation wrought by Katrina and offers a sampling of architectural responses, including a redesign of the traditional shotgun house whose height off the ground can be adjusted. And architectural students at Harvard designed modules that float on water during a flood and pull in their umbilical-like utilities cords and redistribute themselves when floodwaters recede.

ROTFLMAO, Piper! I wonder how many people know the story of Claudette Colbert and her refusal to do full-face photos. When they were shooting It Happened One Night Clark Gable used to deliberately piss her off by insisting he be lit a certain way…which would inevitably leave her with little or no shadowing or facing the camera. And of course he was freaking Clark Gable so he got his way and she’d get livid and sulk. Plus, he was about 8 or 9 inches taller than she was so that made the lighting tricky to begin with.

Brad Pitt has not lived in Shawnee since he was a baby, but the town started buzzing when the actor and his girlfriend, Oscar-winner Angelina Jolie, landed their private plane for a few hours on Thursday for a birthday visit with Pitt’s grandmother, Betty Russell.
“It was just a good, close visit,” said Russell, who turns 86 next week.
Pitt’s plane flew in from Austin, Texas, and landed at Shawnee Regional Airport at about 11:15 a.m. Thursday, with Pitt and Jolie spending time with several family members who gathered for Russell’s birthday.
Russell said that time with her famous grandson is rare.
“Not often at all,” Russell said. “No, I guess I’ve not seen him since I went out for the wedding when he married Jennifer (Aniston).”
Pitt, 44, was born in Shawnee, but his family relocated to Springfield, Mo. shortly after his birth. The actor will appear later this year in Joel and Ethan Coen’s new film, “Burn After Reading,” and David Fincher’s “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”
Russell said the family was able to pack a lot into the visit before Pitt and Jolie left Shawnee at 3 p.m. She said he didn’t bring any special presents — just his presence.
“Oh no,” she said. “Just himself. And I got to meet the great-grandson. That’s what was so good.”

Tita - there was a post yesterday from someone who saw ALL the kids playing in Mrs. Russell’s front yard…and followed the family to the airport in Shawnee. So Brad and Angie weren’t alone. Also, the story clearly states they were there for his grandmother’s birthday party.

Who said it was a small plane? Nobody said that. It was posted yesterday that the guy on the Austin360 blog said he’d been told that Brad had wrapped his role on TOL and the J-Ps had left Austin en masse. He thought Brad was supposed to be there for another 3 weeks, but that’s not the case. Besides, when they were snapped at the Austin airport before they went to NO for the CGI MIR event the plane the were getting on looked like a DC9 to me. I’m no airplane expert, but it was a large plane meant for long-distance continental travel, not a small commuter plane.
Also - I’ve since remembered that all the kids were spotted playing in the yard yesterday, so Mrs. Russell could well indeed have meant the baby Angie’s carrying. I just find it odd that if she hasn’t seen Brad in 8 years that she wouldn’t mention having met ALL of his kids, not just the unborn child.

I doubt it was that’s plane they took. For one thing…it’s prolly in a hangar in Cali. Brad and Angie didn’t fly themselves. It was reported that the whole family left Austin yesterday on a chartered plane because Brad had wrapped his role in TOL.
It was a beautiful day yesterday warm and pretty i bet the kids were outside playing while Brad and Angie visit with Grandma Betty.And she just slipped about the baby boy because you know she is happy.

The woman is 86. She had a busy day. All the kids running around. Then some reporter calls her up. She probably did as best she could. All you really need to know is Brad brought Angelina and the kids to see his grandmother. Brad probably wanting to make sure his kids know they are part of a bigger family.
