Mariah’s Sights Set on Leona Lewis

While Leona Lewis‘ album has hit number one, Mariah Carey’s album is predicted to have one of the biggest opening weeks of any album in recent years.

Leona’s album Spirit has sold 205,000 copies this week in the U.S.

Mariah’s new album E=MC2 opened with sales of 154,000 in the first day.

Mariah was this week’s music mentor and theme for the American Idol contestants.

Are you kidding? Mariah, hands down. Sure, Leona is a great singer, but she doesn’t top Mariah by a mile. And Mariah can’t touch Whitney. It’s just the way it is.

hmm… you really can’t compare the two other than them both having powerhouse voices. i’ve followed mariah’s career since the 90’s and i’ve seen and heard leona’s performances on youtube. it’s only natural we want to compare though. i’m sure this will all resurface again when whitney houston finally comes out with her new music… more power to them all…

I liked Mariah’s voice before but now probably Leona. But I still like Mariah overall. Better songwritter, better lower register, better personality and (shallow) better looking.

they’re both AMAZING singers, but they have COMPLETELY different styles! they both have amazing ranges, though. leona’s songs are sweet, while mariah’s songs are more edgy. mariah definately has more experience, but leona is still young & will be HUGE! watch out mariah.

i agree with #6, Miapocca. Mariah writes & arranges her own music AND on top of that is a living legend. she deserves more credit, but people don’t usually take that in mind when they’re buying these albums. leona is new & fresh, which is also why so many people buy her albums, other than her AMAZING voice. I do think Leona has got a long way to go before she reaches mariah’s level. well… maybe not SO long.

Simon Cowell says Leona Lewis definitely has IT and is one of the best and I’m sure he knows. I’m liking Mariah again. Her mental breakdown put her out of sorts for a while but now she’s back. I have always loved her voice but I want the OLD Mariah—-not the hip-hop Mariah Carey. I like her to belt out songs instead of using her softy, fluffy whiny voice. She’s a great singer. Whitney Houston is my favorite singer.

she has great talent. Just after she won X Factor on the same night just
in 30 minutes alone, there where over 50,000 downloads
for her song
“A Moment Like This”
When she was on the x factor,
X Factor is like American Idol.
which first belonged to England.
“Pop Idol” but then was sold to America.

you need to hear, some of Leona’s other song,
Like Homeless, Take A Bow. Better in time.
