Christina Aguilera is one of the cover girls for People en Español’s 50 Most Beautiful 2008 issue.
“I love Latin culture. It’s fire and passion, and I definitely want to instill that in my son,” Christina said her son Max.

It’s sad that celeb latinos help to further perpetuate “a type” by consistantly saying in the media that “this is how you define a latina.” I don’t look like them and nor does Rosie Perez, Rosario Dawson, Gina Torres (a fellow Afro-Cuban American and married to Laurence Fishbourne, or Mariane Pearl plus scores more and it bites. It irks me that the articles and interviews and commericals etc never EVER even suggest that there are millions of Afro-Carib Latinos in America who share as much of the language and culture as our Euro-Latina sisters.

Loca Rosaa, you should not be screaming in caps here, is insulting, besides, what makes you think that there are no Jews in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, etc, etc, etc. There are smaller or bigger presences of all races in every Latin American country. There are Chinese, Japanese, German, American, of course Jews, and whatever you name, there are communities that have blended more or less with the “typical” latin groups (as if you can say that).
My sister in law is mexican-german girl I guess she is not a Latina and does not deserve to call herself that just because she looks taller and fairer than most. But hey there are people from small towns that are blonde and blue eyed (Spanish descent and mestizo), but they are mexicans.
There are women who love to dye their hair and use contacts to look different, but they are not callingthemselves not-latina.
There are not prototypes of people in Latin America as in the USA there are not just one race. Yes, the mestizos are majority, but as their name mestizo means mixed, you do not know what genes are dominant and everybody will look the same.
If Christina Aguilera says she wants her son to know Latin culture, good for them, he will learn about America, Jewish culture and the Latin world, that will make him less racist and cosed minded that many people here.

What about Alicia Keys?**** no, america appropriates what it can stereotype, and minorites are starting to take those stereotypes to heart. Christina grew up speaking spanish btw, until her mom left her dad at the age of like 6 or 7 or 8 or so, but that doesn’t even matter, she is latina because of her HERITAGE, being that her father is from ECUADOR. Would anyone get mad if she went around saying that she was Irish all the time? No, why? because she appears to most dumb americans (and others) to fit what we think is that phenotype. It is sad that there is so much anomosity over something that is her own damn personal choice and preference. She’s always spoke about her Latin roots, (HER NAME IS AGUILERA, what do you think that is french?) and even made a spanish song or more before her debut album, grew up listening to many latin artists, and refused to let them (her management) downplay her heritage by changing her name. I heard that she wanted to do a spanish language album before she even made her self titled debut….things aren’t always what they seem and any race of people can be of “latin” descent. I can guarantee you that not as many people would be complaining if she looked more like what a “stereotypical latina” looked like. Selena and Jennifer Lopez didn’t/don’t speak fluent spanish, but no one brings that up…ya’ll ******* is haters. Oh and cashing in on your heritage? SHE IS IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY! why the **** not cash in on everything you can? That’s what her job is. Anyone familiar with Ecuadorian people would know that her features actually are strong mestiza ones, regardless of hair,eye, skin color. Even if the Ecuadorian side of her was pure Spanish she would still be of LATINA descent, case closed.
