Just an aside on the numbers for MAMS. Depending on the movie and its perceived potential for receipts, the studios can get even more of a return at the box office because they can negotiate or demand, as they are wont to do, a higher percentage of the BO. The studios have all sorts of angles for making more profits.

Similarly, the studios’ foreign BO percentages are usually negotiated separately from the US theatrical release because there are usually different distribution companies involved and those foreign entities almost always have less bargaining power.

As we’ve discussed before, all the upfront costs for the studios come out of the US BO revenues - printing costs, distribution costs and fees, advertising and promotion, etc. So almost no movie shows a “profit” for the studios until it at least gets to the foreign BO and usually not until it goes to non-BO revenue streams ( licensing, DVDs, etc).

I have heard and seen a number of figures for Pitt’s final take on MAMS - anywhere from $75 million up to $120 million. Since the final figure I’ve seen for gross on MAMS was $780 million - that’s almost a billion dollars - I’m not surprised that Pitt’s haul was so huge. Look at the astronomical figure Depp started getting on the Pirates sequels.

This is only one of the many reasons why the rabid anti-JPs are so truly comical when they confidently proclaim how the JPs must be running out of money. You have to know that these are females who have no idea what real money is.

As for Lara Croft. I love her as a role model for girls. A friend has a new baby and was buying all this pink, frilly - and in my opinion - tacky crap for her daughter. I swore if she bought one more pink thing for her I was calling Child Protective Services. LOL. I suggested a Lara Croft theme room for the poor little pink child. It has all the elements of a great room - an English country estate with a section for feminine things like books/library, tea set, dolls, horses etc. Then Lara is off to some adventure by sea with a wall for sea animals, an aquarium or whatever then on to Asia or Africa with some jungle theme on another wall with maps, animals, cultural icons, climbing wall, then back to a wall for the bed at the estate. Now that’s a room for a real girl in today’s world.

Sorry for the digression. I didn’t see any of the Lara Croft movies until last year and I love them and what they represent. I think that’s why I enjoyed Mr & Mrs Smith so much.

Anonymous, Angie is very versatile and she excels in every role she gets. In MMS she is a wife and the role focussed more in her “relationship” with Mr. Smith. Their jobs are not the plot of the story. The plot of Wanted is being an assassin. If you watch different stories of action movies, you will notice that there are some juxtaposition of plots here and there because writers have different ways of telling the story. Since you are not a fan and still on this thread, Angie in the past years have a variety of roles: A Mighty Heart, The Good Shepherd, Beowulf, Shark Tales, Kung Fu Panda, The Changeling, etc. need I say more? None of these are duplicates of the other like the role of your “Friend,” Rachel.
