OlderJamie Lee Curtis: I Wish Miley’s Parents Protected Her
Actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who recently herself got into some controversy for posing “topless” for AARP magazine, weighs in on Miley Cyrus’s semi-topless scandal with Vanity Fair. Here’s an excerpt from her opinion piece:
When these young people get all dressed up for award show red-carpet events don’t we all comment how beautiful, stunning and grown-up they look in their strapless/backless dresses and heels and tousled hair? None of this is new. None of this should be news. But it is news because it is a business. It is all Business. It is called Show Business. Show Abyss-ness! I call it Show-OFF Business. You throw a child onto the jaws of a business and they will get eaten.
I know how Miley feels. I too was a little embarrassed by my recent topless “scandal” and the subsequent parodies, but I am an adult woman. I protected myself during the shoot and I can take the heat. I only wish that her guardians had protected her.

Everyone is more naked, when wearing a bikini. Its just a naked back.
I think there are going on more problems. She is only 15, behaves like an adult, looks most of the time like 20 years old and there are pictures in the public which are more disturbing. And there are these parents who are also in the public and who seem to like it and who remind me a lot of the spears parents and we know how this ended.
There is nothing bad about nudity, about funny pictures of teens but there is a problem when no adult seems to really care.
Oh, Please. Miley wants scandals! Or else she wouldn’t send up all these pictures. It’s desperate, really. Get a life, wannabe!

Jamie is right, Miley ’s guardians or in this case her parents must have done something during the photoshoot to safeguard their daughter. They should have not allowed anything that might have put their daughter in a bad light.
I agree completely! Hilary Duff wasnt doing topless photos at 15 yrs old when she was on Disney. I dont think shes even done one now at almost 21.
I feel like her parents want her to be famous so bad. Especially her mom. Her mom reminds me of Lohans mom.
I never imagined I’d be discussing Miley Cyrus. I must admit I only recently realized that Miley Cyrus and Hannah Montana were the same person after hearing about someone wanting to hijack an airplane and fly it into a Hannah Montana concert. But I digress. I do feel the need to weigh in on this “controversy”.
Hannah Montana is product of Disney. Miley Cyrus is 15 going 16. People have a problem differentiated these two facts. So when Hannah Montana exhibits sexuality, people feel like their brand loyalty has been compromised. When Miley Cyrus exhibits her sexuality a nation’s anxiety about teenage sexuality is exposed.
This brings back memories of Britney Spears’ vow of virginity because she (or her creators) knew it would ruin her image. Next thing you know she’s marrying every man she has sex with, exposing her crotch, shaving her head, being put in a mental institution, and having her children taken away from her. I’m not suggesting one equals the other, but when people don’t let someone grow up, they don’t.
Let Miley Cyrus grow up.

You all with daughters are SO naive. If you think she is acting ANY worse than ANY 15 year old you are just stupid. Your kids going to church every Sunday and pledging their virginity are lying. How many of them have a cell phone with a camera? I’ll bet 90% of you parents have NO idea about how many high-school boys have your daughter naked on their cell phone. And God forbid your ignorance lets you tell me I am wrong. I am 16.5 and go to a school considered VERY conservative. Wake up America! You have made all of your daughters whores!
I think that they made a mistake they’re not fallible they’re human. I don’t understand why this got so much attention it wasn’t a topless picture done by a sleaze bag, in a back room somewhere this is ANNIE LEIBOVITZ she’s widely famous, and know for her “artiste” photos. Miley is a good roll model for girls, but I personally don’t encourage my girls to make role models after celebrities, as a mother of young girls, I prefer strong women who have change the world, and who are dead, I know what they have accomplished and most of the time, the skeletons in their closets. My point, stop complaining about others parenting skills, or the lack of, focus on your parenting skills, know your kids, love your kids, be there for your kids, they’ll love you for it, and you’ll love you for it.
Question JLC ? Didn’t YOU do a nude photo shoot? Telling women that they should be proud of their bodies no matter what your age. I can tell you that at 15 I certainly did not feel good enough about my my body to a picture like that. It’s contradictory to say “love your body,” but don’t look beautiful, don’t show it off, they may as well wear a long dress and join the LDS church. You are being naive check out, you-tube videos, and photos, stop pointing fingers at celebrities, and look at the majority of teenagers parents who fail miserably. We need to look with-in and not with-out at the problems with society.

I am more agitated about the photo with Miley stretched over her daddy’s lap than I am about the so-called “controversial” one… that one with her “daddy” gives me the creeps- I understand her family being close and all, but that photo is creepy- more boyfriend/girlfriend than father/daughter…

After seeing some behind the sceens pics that showed Miley in pants and the sheet was pinned around her, i thnk the pic was beautiful. As for the ones of her showing her bra and stomach, all i can say is this… to all u teen girls,you KNOW there are pics of you like that out there too (unless you’re fat) and to the adults out there, there are pics of YOUR 15yr old daughter just like the ones of Miley out there so GET OVER IT!!
