New York Post Cover: MILEY’S SHAME
Miley Cyrus has become the center of a media storm for a semi-topless photograph, taken by Annie Liebovitz for Vanity Fair’s June issue.
As you can see, the 15-year-old media darling made front page news of the New York Post with the headline exclaiming, Miley’s Shame.
The near-nude pic shows Miley clutching a satin sheet to her chest with her back bare exposed. In her interview with the mag, Miley said the picture is “really artsy,” but not “in a skanky way.”
She has since apologized to the public for the photos.
“Somebody needs to pull in the reins of this talented little gal before her career stampedes off into the sunset,” says the LA Times.

The problem is that she is only 15!! the pictures are only showing her back but she is still a teenager. Lindsay & Britney we’re never taking pictures like these when they we’re that age. I love Miley Cyrus but I just think that she really needs to think about what she is doing. On an interview Miley had with Ryan Seacrest she stated that she got grounded because she wore a shirt that was a lil revealing at one of her concerts. Her Mother did not want her to ear becasue it was to revealing but Miley did anyway I mean come on know she is showing alot more than a lil stomach. 1st There is the pictures with the boy know these pictures showing her back there is nothing wrong with them only that she is only 15!! & she has so many young lil girls looking up to her.

I think that if anyone should apologize, it should be Annie Lebowitz and Vanity Fair. Miley is a child. Taking direction from a very professional photographer. Where were her parents?
It’s not about only seeing her back, it’s about how she’s only 15-years-old and on the DISNEY CHANNEL for crying out loud. She should NOT be taking pictures like these, especially photoshoot ones.
I mean, how many more half-naked pictures are we going to see until she finally realizes what she’s doing is going to affect her career? Sadly, she’s the biggest Disney name, and parents see this stuff, and they don’t want their daughter or son looking up to someone who claims she does everything for God, including getting half-naked and taking pictures any chance she has.
Basically, it’s her parents fault. She’s a minor and they should know better than to pimp their bread-winner out just for some millions. I mean, she’s already worth about 10 billion or something, so do they really need to get her naked in order to sell magazines? It’s really sad.

My children are wild about Miley/Hannah Montana. I am in show business for a living and I blame her parents for not reigning in Annie Lebowitz for the back-bearing photos (but because the pics are being taken by such a well-known and respected photog, they may have assumed the pics would be in good taste. I personally don’t see anything wrong with seeing her back - Anglo American Prudes are making too much of this). As for her own pics of her bra - she’s a kid having fun. Nothing worse than a bathing suit so the media is making her out to be a ho when actually she’s acting age appropriate. People need to let go of the little things and realize this is one rich and talented person who has to make all her mistakes in public. How many of you have made mistakes and are grateful the whole world wasn’t watching? Lighten up and let this gal off the hook (and her parents too).

First, I don’ t think people should look down on her because of this. I highly doubt in her mind or her parent’s mind that it was going to turn into something like this, let alone be anything bad.
Second, I can see how easily someone may have explained it to Miley in a sense that it would be artsy and legendary. One thing is for sure - she’ll probably never be photographed by Annie Leibovitz again. To try to blame the photographer, “You don’t say no to Annie Leibovitz” is a low, cowardly excuse. She apparently had her own representation there the whole time - parents, agent, and more. To now come back and say she is embarrassed - after the media uproar has begun - is just - the best word is cowardly.
Her parents or agent - seemingly responsible adults - should have and i think WOULD HAVE intervened if they thought there was anything inappropriate. NOW they think there was something untoward? Too little, too late. It’s not believable. They’re like any other stage parents, pimping out their kids.
At the same time she’s a normal 15-year-old who is getting used to the idea of the power of her young body and her sexuality, but she’s doing it in the public eye. As such, her parents ought to protect her even more. They’re the ones failing her, in my eyes.

Why would you even think of taking a picture of a hopefully innocent 15 yr old girl wrapped in a blanket/sheet. It doesn’t make you say “ah” like you do when you see a bare butt of a baby on a rug! She is very impressionable at this age and still needs to learn what is acceptable. She also needs to learn that it is ok to say “no” when something doesn’t feel right. When she is 18 she can make those decisions for herself . Until then she needs sound parental advice and adults who are looking out for her long term welfare.
For all those comparing her to Vanessa H. I have this to say: Vanessa is 18 and the law states you can make your own decisions at 18, Miley has 3 years to wait.

Yes, you do see more when a girl/ woman wears a bikini and I see nothing wrong in the Macy’s ads or any other store’s ads when they show teens in bikinis. I agree completely. Annie Liebowitz is always very cutting edge in her photography. She is wonderful and is always trying to push that envelope to capture something unique. That does not mean that Miley’s parents had to agree, though.

You’re 15, too, and see nothing wrong with the photos. That is the point the rest of us who are way over 15 are trying to make. At the age of 15 your body is too “grown up” to pose like that while your mental and emotional maturity and decision making ability need a few more years to catch up to your body.
The adults involved including her parents, Liebovitz, the editors and legal staff of VF, the NY Post, etc should have exercised better judgment.
It’s call ART people and Annie L is no slouch - the photo is professionally done and not some chessy picture taken at home. This is getting out of hand - the poor kid. Britney, Paris and others are worse examples - leave Miley alone.

Yes, it is ART but it would more tasteful ART with an older “model” or maybe if her hair wasn’t rumpled and if she didn’t have that “post look” about her. That is where I think ART went south. This is a bigger problem than cozy pictures with the boyfriend or private pictures showing up on the internet. This is a “professional” photo shoot and the exploitation of a minor and the manipulation of that same minor by adults.

Have you ever heard of the word “suggestive”?
Oh please, everyone who insists “it’s just her back” - it’s not always what’s ACTUALLY pictured that’s most important. Little girls whose parents aren’t going to buy this mag are going to see this picture in passing and think what everyone else thought on first impression - she’s naked. That affects people, especially if they like her. Besides, it’s not just her back - she looks extremely sexed up.
It seems like there ISN’T a line with a lot of you - if she had been completely naked you would have insisted “she’s covered in a sheet.” It’s inappropriate for any 15-year-old, let alone a 15-year-old who tries to present herself as a “role model.”

At 15 you are too young to fully understand the power you have over the opposite sex. When I was 14 or 15 my friend and I sat on the curb and we got silly and started waving and calling (just “hi”) to cars as they passed by. We lived in a small town and the curb was directly in front of my friend’s house and it was daylight. One of the cars drove around the block and passed us again and then stopped and lectured us. He told us we could give someone the wrong impression by catching the attention of the cars. It was so embarrassing because the passenger side of the door opened then and just as we were about to run screaming for the hills, my older brother (18) got out. He said his friend noticed some cute girls and wanted to drive by again and then my brother noticed that one of the “cute girls” was his little sister, so he wanted to teach us a lesson! This was many years ago and I have never forgotten the message. Maybe Miley needs an older brother looking out for her!

Someone suggested that this photo has been done before and actually Angelina Jolie was the model and so I looked at that one. AJ is smiling and appears to be enjoying herself in her picture and not in a sheet but in a satiny slinky dress. Miley is not smiling and looks either scared or shy or just plain uncomfortable. Perhaps that was Liebovitz’s intent, to have that “reluctant lost innocence” look.

Media outlets such as Entertainment Tonight continue to make the situation worse by discussing them as “raunchy and to old for Miley” and then talk about Julianne Hough and her almost bear photo of her only being covered by the American Flag. Its unfortunate Miley has a career that every move she makes is judged, but Miley has done more good and been very successful then she has been bad and also being compared to the likes of Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan don’t help the situation. Miley is a teenager and makes mistakes, she will contiune to make mistakes and learn from them just like every other person on this earth. Nobody is perfect whether you are in the show business spotlight or not, but she will always be making mistakes and bad moves but she will learn and become a stronger person from them.

You know… I kind of like these photos. I don’t think they’re particularly sexual; I think that they are artistic. The way she is posed and “dressed,” seems almost angelic, rather than whorey. If this is considered pornographic, then almost every other painting of angels should be, too. Why is every body making such a fuss? Artistic nudity =/= pornography.
