New York Post Cover: MILEY’S SHAME

Miley Cyrus has become the center of a media storm for a semi-topless photograph, taken by Annie Liebovitz for Vanity Fair’s June issue.

As you can see, the 15-year-old media darling made front page news of the New York Post with the headline exclaiming, Miley’s Shame.

The near-nude pic shows Miley clutching a satin sheet to her chest with her back bare exposed. In her interview with the mag, Miley said the picture is “really artsy,” but not “in a skanky way.”

She has since apologized to the public for the photos.

“Somebody needs to pull in the reins of this talented little gal before her career stampedes off into the sunset,” says the LA Times.

DO YOU THINK all of this attention on Miley Cyrus is out of control?

I really don’t see the big deal here … like she’s gonna end up like paris hilton in 10 years anyways .. :p

what is the big deal @ 04/28/2008 at 1:34 pm

this is ridiculous, nothing wrong with these photos, she could have been sitting at the beach covered up - maybe it is a publicity stunt by the magazine….. and who cares anyway when there are bigger issues, real issues out there

Why would you even think of taking a picture of a hopefully innocent 15 yr old girl wrapped in a blanket/sheet. It doesn’t make you say “ah” like you do when you see a bare butt of a baby on a rug! She is very impressionable at this age and still needs to learn what is acceptable. She also needs to learn that it is ok to say “no” when something doesn’t feel right. When she is 18 she can make those decisions for herself . Until then she needs sound parental advice and adults who are looking out for her long term welfare.

For all those comparing her to Vanessa H. I have this to say: Vanessa is 18 and the law states you can make your own decisions at 18, Miley has 3 years to wait.

Think about it this way, would you want your daughter who is a freshman or sophomore in HS to pose like that? I think Miley is cute and adorable, not sexy, not alluring, not sensual. She is a child!

I feel sorry that she is going through all this. I think she is too young to be held responsible for this decision.

@lucy
(i`m sorry for mistakes because english is not my first language)

Have you ever thought of the idea that some of the commenters (who are obviously grown ups) simply want to express their concern for your so called “life” and idol.
She is only 15 years old, not able to make all her decisions on her own and not perfect or a goddess. Please be aware of that!!!
People just don`t want her to end up in a rehab at the age of 19. She`s such a talented, lovely girl and she should stay and that means for her being aware of the dangers that are coming with her popularity, don`t you agree?

One more thing, The New York Post has sunk too way too low putting the picture on their cover and stirring the pot of controversy. Let this mistake go slide quietly into the past.

i dont believe that this is her mistake she is a young maturing woman. if it were really anyones fault it should be the lack of parental judgement. i know when i was 15 i acted the same way and it was b-cuz of non sufficent parenting. if they really cared about it her parents should have stayed for the whole shoot.
luv ya miley

also as others have pointed out you see a whole lot more af a woman or a young teen like miley when they are in a bikini. so what next time she goes to the beach she should wear pants and a sweater?

canadagirl @ 04/28/2008 at 2:02 pm

why is miley the only one being criticized here. what’s wrong with annie liebowitz. she is an extremely talented photographer. i’m sure she could have figured out a way to portray miley in a different light without sexualizing her like this. it has nothing to do with being puritanical but she is only 15 and there are plenty of 20 something year olds who can do these poses and have it be more age appropriate. why is there an obsession with ramping up the sexuality factor of young girls when they have their whole life ahead of them to do that? be 15 and be proud of it. she doesn’t have to pose in pigtails but for god sake’s you don’t have to jump to the other end of the spectrum either.

Miley isnt clothes less at all. if you go to VanityFair.com, and see backstage pics, you see Miley have a tank top on and black sweat pants on for this part of the Photoshoot!! So Dont make a big deal about it!!
And the photographer took away the tank top to make her look clothes less! So no big deal! and she said Sorry!!!!!!!

and BOTH of her parents, younger sister, and Grandmother were at this photoshoot! so why would she go with out clothes??
SHE WOULDNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, you do see more when a girl/ woman wears a bikini and I see nothing wrong in the Macy’s ads or any other store’s ads when they show teens in bikinis. When we see sale ads for bed linens we don’t see a topless 15 year old girl wrapped in them! That’s the issue here, the thought behind the picture. I don’t think we Americans are being prudes. I think we are more concerned with how young is too young for such “exposure”.

She (and her parents IMO) were mislead by Vanity Fair. The magazine choose the most provocative picture that they took that day to put on the cover to sell the magazine. Forget that this is an underage girl and a G-rated Disney star, anything to sell the RAGazine. I don’t think the pic is that bad, but I do feel Vanity Fair and Annie whatshername deserve a backlash for this, not Miley and her folks IMO.

who cares **** people! it’s just a photoshoot, let her do whatever she wants. Just because she plays a tv show for kids doesn’t mean she has to be a role model. Shes 15! get over it

bee @ 04/28/2008 at 2:07 pm

In which planet do you let kids do whatever they want? Grow a pair and lay down the law!

Annie Liebovitz does not have any new ideas. Look at the photo of Angelina done in 2005. Angelina was 30 years old and this is appropriate for her age. Angelina is smiling and her hair is done.,

Now, Annie takes a 15 year old and gives her the rumpled post sex look.

SHAME ON YOU LESBOVITZ.

canadagirl @ 04/28/2008 at 2:02 pm #131

I agree completely. Annie Liebowitz is always very cutting edge in her photography. She is wonderful and is always trying to push that envelope to capture something unique. That does not mean that Miley’s parents had to agree, though.

Emily,
I am sure she is fully clothed under the sheet , I never thought she was undressed, but that is not what the viewer is led to believe. Miley was used and I feel sorry for her. Her reputation has taken another hit. She’ll rebound, though.

emma roberts has been in way worst pictures than this, but ni ine cares about her? i dont get it

i thought these were photoshopped but I guess not because they are all over. And since Just Jared has it. It’s believable. What the hell is Miley Ray Cyrus thinking?! I can’t wait to see Vanity Fair June Issue. I’ll believe it when I see it. This is very disappointing. =/

I don’t find the photograph disturbing, of sorts…I’m 15 too.

It’s done in a proffesional manner and nothing is revealed that shouldn’t be.

Miley is just like any other teenage kid, only difference is she is growing up in the media eye.

All this media coverage is rather sickening. It’s a picture, get over it.

you only see her back..true….but for gods sake shes 15!

[☆F a m o u s☆] @ 04/28/2008 at 2:27 pm

so… mileys “parent” (i use that word loosely) were there at the photoshoot the entire time. hmmm… annie leibovitz should of never did that shoot - she’s to good.

an ad for kiddy p*rn @ 04/28/2008 at 2:27 pm

The photo looks like an advertisement for kiddy p*rn. Shame on her parents, Billy Ray and Tish, shame on her grandmother, and shame on Vanity Fair.

innominedei @ 04/28/2008 at 2:43 pm

it’s only her back… it’s only her BACK…. oh SHUT UP already, it’s not her back that’s the problem. the girl was TOPLESS during the shoot, and although she may think it’s artsy, honestly this whole controversy has a point bc she IS ONLY 15.

This is NOT what tween girls should be doing, this “artsy” type of advertisements should only involve mature grown-ups. because in the end this is sending a sexualized depiction of a barely grown-up young girls… young girls should indeed be far more protected, it’s a danger in this society… this girl should receive attention for her talents and not her half-n*de-ish pictures!

Jess @ 04/28/2008 at 2:25 pm

You’re 15, too, and see nothing wrong with the photos. That is the point the rest of us who are way over 15 are trying to make. At the age of 15 your body is too “grown up” to pose like that while your mental and emotional maturity and decision making ability need a few more years to catch up to your body.

The adults involved including her parents, Liebovitz, the editors and legal staff of VF, the NY Post, etc should have exercised better judgment.

Passing through @ 04/28/2008 at 2:47 pm

It’s call ART people and Annie L is no slouch - the photo is professionally done and not some chessy picture taken at home. This is getting out of hand - the poor kid. Britney, Paris and others are worse examples - leave Miley alone.

The photographer asked her to do this,
as a 15 yr old child shes been brought up to respect adults and do what shes told - which is why she did it, not because she wanted to
