A few weeks ago the LA Times Hot Property section ran a piece on the homes of producer-manager Seth Ersoff. Perhaps Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were reading because Lowdown reports that they have now expressed interest in Ersoff’s homes.

According to Fashion Week Daily, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have paid $25 million for Château Gabriel, the 127 year-old Anglo-Norman house on the Normandy coast in Deauville that was the summer home to Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé. The home sits on 75 acres and has a view of the ocean.

The Daily Telegraph reports that on a recent visit to the Turin area, Pitt stayed at the Fontanafredda estate at Serralunga an area that makes some of Italy’s most famous wines including Barolo and Dolcetta D’Alba, and the classic white, Gavi. Pitt was interested in checking out the entire process of winemaking and checked out two working vineyards near Fontanafredda which are for sale.

So the reports that she will give birth in France is true. I hope the reports in UK that they will get married on the yatch of Paul Allen in early June is true, too. I just love and adore this family so much.
They will surely going to have a great time in France especially on the arrival of the new baby (babies). So happy for them.

Superheroes seek box office invincibility

“Iron Man,” which opens across North America on Thursday night, not only kicks off Hollywood’s extended summer movie season, it supercharges what is shaping up as the biggest season ever for comic book-to-film transfers.

“It’s not a fad,” Marvel Studios president of production Kevin Feige said of the onslaught of movies built around comic book avengers. “It’s the new archetype for the summer blockbuster. Everybody loves special effects, everybody loves epic entertainment, and that’s what comics have been delivering for decades and decades.”

“Iron Man” will be followed by “The Incredible Hulk” and “Wanted” on June 13 and 27, respectively, both from Universal. “Hellboy 2: The Golden Army” unleashes July 11, again from Universal, while “The Dark Knight,” Warner Bros.’ Batman sequel, alights July 18. Lionsgate releases “Punisher: War Zone” September 12.

On July 2, Sony opens its Will Smith-starrer “Hancock,” which is not actually based on an actual comic but does promise to turn superhero conventions on their head with its tale of a depressed, alcoholic, bumbling hero.

It speaks to the vitality of the genre that Hollywood can schedule all these movies in the same time period without fear that they will cannibalize each another. “Iron Man” is a Marvel action movie featuring a man in a super-powered armor, while “Wanted” is an R-rated action movie about a society of super-assassins. “Hulk” is a Marvel monster movie set amid a realistic backdrop, while “Hellboy” aims to take audiences to underground worlds fertilized by Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro’s imagination. “Dark Knight” is expected to offer another dark, psychological exploration from director Christopher Nolan.

“If they were all about a guy who runs into an alley and changed into a costume or into a phone booth to put on a mask, they would have come and gone in a year or two,” Feige said.

Maintaining a heroic diversity is important to Marvel as it gets ready to greenlight its next films from a slate that ranges from “Ant-Man” (directed by Edgar Wright) to “Thor” (a Norse God adventure from Matthew Vaughn) to the patriotic, flag-waving “Captain America.”

“Because they can be so varied in genre, in rating, in execution, there is a lot of room for them (in the marketplace),” said Donna Langley, president of production at Universal Studios. “But you should be mindful about the competitive landscape. You obviously don’t want to release ‘Superman’ and ‘Spider-Man’ the same day.”

These movies are not slam dunks, by any means. The riskiest among the crop is the Marvel-backed “Hulk,” which has seen a behind-the-scenes drama play out between star Ed Norton and Marvel over competing visions. There is also the hurdle of getting audiences to see a movie that is not a sequel but a relaunch of a film that bombed five years ago.

On the other hand, not all of these flicks are $100 million-plus gambles. Universal has been keen on keeping the budgets on “Hellboy 2″ and “Wanted” in the $80 million range.

Says Langley: “It’s like animated movies — we went from two or three a year to 25 a year. Only so many of them are going to overperfrom, and the others are going to do OK.”

As it ups the superhero ante, Hollywood is still learning is to be mindful of the characters’ fan bases and creators. The comic book fans scrutinize everything from director and actors to costumes to how closely the films follow the source material. Creators, meanwhile, can spout off against any movie that they feel betrays their vision. Alan Moore, for example, never publicly blessed the movies “V for Vendetta” and “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen,” which were based on his comics.

In the summer, “Wanted” strays from its source material. The original miniseries was, in part, a nihilistic tale of evil super-assassins killing one another as well as the good guys. But because that comic’s fan base isn’t as big as that of Hellboy or Spider-Man, Universal felt comfortable veering from the comic to make it more appealing to a broader-based audience, with a little help from Angelina Jolie. But it also made sure creator Mark Millar was involved, going to him for ideas and using his dialogue for voice-over bits.

“If you deviate from the comic book, do it in concert with the creator so he doesn’t wage an Internet campaign,” Langley said.

While another ironic take on costumed heroes, 1999’s “Mystery Men,” fizzled at the box office, times, audiences and movies have changed, making “Hancock” as close to a sure-bet as you can find at the box office.

No way, was Maniston going to let another year go by, watching Brad and Angelina rule the world at Cannes & Venice with their A-list films, and A-list beauty, and A list babies and pregnant belly - for the second time.

HOW ‘HUVANISTON’S MACHINE WORKS:

1) Much like the previous strategy with Vaughn, the goal is to say nothing and let speculation escalate to her usual phony ‘Happiness is the Best Revenge on Brad‘ levels - she’ll typically give the rags something to talk about with some staged PDA (See the airplane balcony makeout session Vaughn conveniently in front of photogs, see Sculfor exiting her home, smart water bottle in hand, et al).

2) Because the relationship is being ’staged,’ (I won’t comment on whether or not PEEple are being PEE’d on - or getting f**ked, as the visual is a bit too nauseating for me :lol: ) the plan is to NOT have her PR speak to the nature of the relationship (much like the Vaughn scenario) they get MORE PR mileage out of it that way.

Brad took care of everything during Marcheline’s passing when Angelina & James were too distraught to even begin to think about what to do. And that is what we so know aside from many other times that we don’t know about. The first sason of holidays are tough when you just lost a loved one. You don’t care about the behind the scenes though. No you want public displays of everything to satisy your feeble little mind as if you matter.

Wherever they are, it is great that they are having some privacy and will also have a chance to see their friends in Europe. I’m sure, they will visit Marianne and Goerge C. while in Europe too. I think it is not the final birthing destination because Brad and Angie are very mysterious when it comes to their decisions.

We haven’t talked to you in almost two years. Can you recap the high points in your personal journey in the last couple of years? The high points are the obvious. My coming together with Brad; Brad and Maddox coming together; and Zahara coming into our family. The low or scarier point was when Zahara got sick. Her surviving that was a high point. My having a baby (Shiloh) and now her personality is coming out—it’s fun. It’s great to see all three kids together.
On a professional level, this film was wonderful to work on. That I’ll be working a lot less and spending a lot more time at home was a welcome decision at the end of the day.

And you have been going on these missions for the UN. I’ve been working for the UN for five years now. I have been involved with projects in Cambodia for four years. I’m still pushing for different bills in Washington and they haven’t gone through. We have a new Congress. Maybe they will (pass those bills).
I’m trying to educate myself more to be able to handle discussions on issues better and not just be emotional about them. I would try to actually deal with them on a stronger level and make some changes.

As I’m looking at you from the side, you and Brad could be brother and sister. Well, thank God we’re not (laughter).

Do you think your relationship is based on the fact that you are alike? You know, it’s funny. When we first came together, everybody commented on how different we were. So now it’s funny to hear somebody comment on how similar we are. Oh my God, I think you’ve scared me into thinking we’re starting to be that couple that morphs (starts looking like each other). We are very different in many ways — certainly in the way he is at home and the way I am at home. But we balance each other quite well.

Can you give an example of how different you are? He’s very methodical and takes time with things. I’m very impulsive like on a decision we made yesterday. But (when we travel), he packs at the last minute while I pack three days ahead with all the kids’ stuff and five different things. I like to organize each moment of our travel but he likes to be more (spontaneous). But we appreciate each other. We need it. I need to be not so crazy about things.
How are you going to spend the holidays? We’re going somewhere this Christmas. We’ll spend the morning with our children, have a wonderful time with them and make it special for them and not forget that. We’re going to spend the day with some other people, bring them some things, listen and talk to them. I want to teach my kids that it’s not about what they’re going to get but it’s about who they’re going to think of, what they’re going to do, what they’re going to learn and who they are going to extend kindness to. The season is a good excuse to teach our children something really nice.

Spiritually, are Brad and you on the same page? Yes, I would say that. We’re not of any one faith ourselves but we are teaching the children about different faiths. We believe (in teaching them about) that. We believe that you should understand and learn about all the different faiths. Then teach your children and see where they fall and celebrate many different things. I suppose that is a unique thing to be very much in agreement on.

Do you have any respite from the paparazzi at all? We were just recently in our home in Cambodia and nobody was there. So there are ways and there are places (where there are no paparazzi). We also went to Brad’s parents’ house for about five days. That was lovely and quiet. Hopefully in the years to come, maybe if we work less, we’ll have more of a quiet life. Then our kids will have a more normal life. We just try not to let it (the paparazzi issue) affect us. It only does when we want the kids to have more freedom but other than that, we try to ignore it. There are worse problems so we’re OK.
Would you like to get married again? I have had two beautiful marriages (first to British actor Johnny Lee Miller and then to American actor Billy Bob Thornton) in my life. I don’t feel a need to get married at all at this moment. But I am committed to another person (Brad) and three children. I think that’s the most important. For people who want to be married, it’s a beautiful thing. It’s a wonderful thing and I’m all for it.

How much do you enjoy flying your own plane? I love it. It certainly gives me a freedom that I don’t have on the ground. Flying is a real skill. I know that sounds odd but I have spent my whole life with a job that is kind of odd. I interpret behavior, tell stories and I emote—those are not practical skills. So it was really wonderful for me as a woman and as a person to go back to school, take tests, study and learn a proper physical skill I can expand on. Hopefully one day, I would be able to give service as a pilot.

After the controversy of Madonna adopting a child, the cynical reaction from media was that some celebrities are “buying” babies. Did that hurt the chances of some babies being adopted? I hope not. I hope people are smart enough to understand that it was a very specific situation of a country that didn’t have foreign adoption (policy). So it’s a very specific legal situation. I hope everybody wishes the best for that little boy and his new life. Again, it’s the negative and positive media. It’s good for media to question whether there’s something at play that you need to understand or may not be right. Then there are people who decide to run stories in the most negative way possible just to sell magazines.
I was working in India and I didn’t go out of my way to study everything about it (Madonna’s adoption of a boy issue). I don’t know a lot about that country (Malawi). I have not been there. I have gotten lists of counties to adopt from and that country has never been on those lists. I believe that anybody who adopts a child has that commitment to that child for the rest of his life. There’s got to be some love in that situation. I don’t think it’s fair to just look at it in a negative way. We have to hope that’s the best for that little boy.

You grew up in a show business environment. Do you think your children will follow the same path? Strangely enough, because I didn’t live with my father (actor John Voight), I didn’t go to a bunch of film sets and things like that. But I did grow up in Hollywood and somewhat around that. What I am trying to give to my children—and it’s the one thing I didn’t have—is at least half a year, if not more, in a foreign country. On occasion, they’ve been on film sets. They’re around this stuff every once in a while but they really spend the majority of their lives not around this (Hollywood). I am trying to give them balance, like with Mad, he came to work with me in India and he played with the local kids. He hung out at the local places and he didn’t live a Hollywood life during that time.
It was the same case when we were in Africa. I am glad I can bring Mad to these foreign countries and he’s not looking for a Nintendo and a hotel room. He’s happy to go to some neighbor’s house that’s very modest and just play outside with rocks. So I hope with that balance, I’ll instill in the children something that’s more than just wanting to be in this business. But if they want to, God help us, we will let them (laughter).

Where is home for you? We don’t actually know. We have a lot of our stuff in Los Angeles but we’re looking for a home outside of that. We just went back to Cambodia which I consider home.

How was your experience working with Robert De Niro as director? On the set, Bob was so great to work with. When I first met him, somebody said to me, “Look, he doesn’t like to talk a lot. He’ll probably talk to you for five minutes.” We talked for almost two hours because we ended up talking about world affairs. He’s not a casual person.

Please comment on—first, how you look different in this movie because of your blonde hair. And second, how everybody talks about your beauty. (On the first question), that certainly makes me feel good. I have always seen myself as different looking. In “The Good Shepherd,” I had to go quite WASP-y whereas I am more ethnic looking. It’s easier for me to go darker than lighter and my character was quite light. (On the second question), I have gotten used to myself, my face. I don’t think of myself one way or another—kind of beautiful or ugly. I look like my mom and so that’s nice to me (laughing).

In portraying a woman, wife and mother from the 1930s and 1940s, what are some of the differences from your own experience living today? Many things. It wasn’t just the 30s and through. On top of it, she’s married to the CIA. She’s unable to express her independence. That was probably the hardest thing. She could not even have an improvised fight. How far could I (her character) take an aggressive attack or an insult? I always had to stay in my place and there wasn’t anywhere to go.
It was not possible (for my character) to say, “I’m leaving,” “I want a divorce,” “I want this” or “I want this for my child.” It was very claustrophobic in that marriage. It was very hard for me as an actress to do that, to make myself less opinionated, powerful and strong. On a funnier note, I was sent to manners classes—for lessons on how to hold a cup of tea, to cross my legs the right way and to tilt my head a little and listen. It was funny that the natural way we hold ourselves today as women is not as gracious and elegant as the women of that time.
That element of the film was lost on my character who was just drinking and ignoring it. But in my life, that element is there, even when it’s just going out with the kids or where I go. Or plans for the holidays or even trying to figure out anything really. When

Step inside the Tucker Toys ‘R’ Us, or just about any store where toys are sold, and spring jumps straight to summer.

A titanic display touts slick toy race cars, buff action figures and faux racing helmets based on the sure-to-be blockbuster “Speed Racer,” which doesn’t hit theaters until May 9. And nearby stands a wall of playthings tied to superhero yarn “Iron Man,” another popcorn movie readying for release Friday.

That’s just the beginning. Indiana Jones’ whip cracks Memorial Day weekend; computer-animated robot “Wall-E” whirs and bleeps in June; while Batman and the Joker duke it out in July. A profusion of toys are being produced for each, as well as for films including “The Incredible Hulk” and the new animated feature “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.”

“Summer movie season at toy stores is like Christmas without the cold,” says toy collector Buddy Finethy, president of JoeLanta, an annual Atlanta-based toy convention. “Both kids and adult collectors get giddy around this time of year.”

Film Fest Spotlights Revitalized American Cinema
After a slump of several years, 2007 marked a return to glory for the U.S. film industry. It was as if a Big Bang of creativity unleashed an array of great films across multiple genres, from action and adventure to high art. The former includes “300″ and “Transformers,” and the latter the Coen Brother’s “No Country for Old Men”, Wes Anderson’s “The Darjeeling Limited” and Paul Thomas Anderson’s “There Will Be Blood.”

This year’s Jeonju International Film Festival will allow local cinema fans to experience in person this renewal of American film. The festival will show 20 feature and four short films from the U.S., ranging from commercial to experimental works. With the help of JIFF programmer Yoo Un-seong, the Chosun Ilbo has selected 10 of the more notable films on offer.

Among the bigger-budget movies made in part by the major studios, worth watching are “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” directed by Andrew Dominik and starring Brad Pitt, and “In the Valley of Elah” by Paul Haggis, who won the Academy Award for Best Motion Picture with “Crash.” In very different ways, both works deal with the effects of the Iraq War on the unconscious mind of the American people.

It costs more than $50 to fill the gas tank, home values are plummeting, good jobs are hard to come by, and the dollar’s so weak that even a Canadian vacation seems beyond reach.

All together, it has the makings for a wonderful summer in Hollywood.

nstead of more than a dozen sequels this summer, the studios will try to launch new franchises. Where Sony had a new “Spider-Man” film last summer, this year it has Will Smith in “Hancock.” DreamWorks will try to approach “Shrek the Third’s” returns with “King Fu Panda.” In place of “The Bourne Ultimatum,” Universal will release “Wanted.”

“I think it’s a nice thing to have fresh, new and exciting movies with franchise potential,” said Peter Brown, the chairman and chief executive of AMC Entertainment, which operates nearly 4,500 North American screens. He said too many sequels can leave audiences burned out. “People feel a little disappointed — expectations get so high, and then they feel let down.”

I think that the tabs have it right on this one. The baby will be born in France. In Touch has a good source. They knew about Africa with Shiloh. Unfortunately there isn’t much you can keep from the tabs these days.

Robert Downey Jr. didn’t have an easy road back. There were serious doubts about him too; actually, his reputation was so bad that the studios were hesitant to insure him.

But I will agree that there is hypocrisy there. RDJ’s drug issues placed many people, including himself, in danger, and it was played out on the world stage. Angelina’s drug issues were never played out on the world stage; she just talked about it. She discussed her sexuality; but the only demonstration of that was that BBT red carpet walk and some of her movies.

IMO, the only reason to be cheesed off is the because of the way the media seemingly ‘forgives’ some but persecute others. It’s not RDJ’s fault that the media has to feed jealous pathological b*tches!

You know, women are women’s worst enemies. They are much harsher on their own sex then they are on men. We tear each other down with gossip when we feel threatened, inferior or jealous. It’s been shown in research that women are more likely to spread damage by gossip. that’s why the tablies thrive. 99% of tablie purchasers are women.

This is one of the reasons why I admire Angelina. She is in the focus of gossip. She threatens insecure men and women. Yet, she stays focussed on what is important to her and lives her life as best she can.

I will also say that I think the viciousness of some of this gossip must get to Angelina a little, no matter how she tries to block it out. This gossip is so pervasive. For example, even though I don’t click on a Paris Hilton thread, I’m aware that she was imprisoned for DUI, and then released and then imprisoned again and if I’m not mistaken, made a trip to Africa (I think).

Angelina’s relationship to Brad has obviously contributed to additional jealousy and additional anger at her. I do think though that Brad gives her a lot of support and a lot of love. He may not have made many overt declarations of love, but truly, he shows it in his actions. He’s there with his family close by whenever he can. It’s these actions and not his words which evidence his devotion to Angelina and his children.

I just checked for news on the French Google site, and they just today have this thread’s story up. They had nothing yesterday, which is why I don’t really buy it. I saw that they had the L&S twins story, and some report by FemaleFirst that Angie wants to move to France. I don’t know what FemaleFirst is, but I don’t buy it either. The French media obviously knows nothing more about the JPs than the American media does, and all they’re doing as far as Brad and Angie are concerned is quoting American tabs.
It’s no big leap for the tabs to guess that the JPs are in France, because the Cannes festival is approaching. If they are, I’m thinking they might be closer to Paris maybe visiting Marianne and Adam Pearl, and will make their way south for Cannes. Just my guess of course. Nobody will know for sure until we get some pictures, but I LOVE that no matter where they are, Brad and Angelina always manage to fool the mags, lol. They can’t exactly be incognito with four kids and because of who they are in the first place, but they always make the trash mags look like the @sses that they are!
Wherever the JPs are, here’s to plenty of privacy, some red carpet action, and a safe delivery of precious baby JP #5. :)
