Tween Disney star Selena Gomez is all smiles on the set of a People magazine photo shoot in Los Angeles late last week.
Selena, 15, has kids spellbound as Alex Russo in Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place. In 2007, she appeared in the second-season episodes of Hannah Montana as Mikayla, a pop star who is a rival of Hannah Montana, played by Miley Cyrus. But could there be a real-life rivalry between Selena and Miley?
E! recently reported that Disney executives are so worried about Miley’s semi-topless Vanity Fair scandal that, more than ever, they want to make Selena an even bigger star.
“Selena sings and acts and is really young,” a source reports. “She is going to be the next Miley Cyrus. [Disney executives] really want this.”

Selena is a good actress, and a pretty face, yes. But, that’s IT.
So kate, you’re saying Miley ‘can’t sing?’ She was probably the ONLY Disney star (singer) who actually sang LIVE,with no back up vocals ( Oprah performance, for example) and pulled it off WELL.
Selena could NEVER handle that. Her voice is alright, NOTHING special. Miley has that unique tone, and country ‘twang.’
Selena is successful, but Miley is a once in every ten years SUPERSTAR.

I think Selena will be a better role model than Miley. Selena could sing better than Miley. Miley has this pitchy things and Selena has a better voice. Sometimes on Miley’s songs it sounds like a guy. Just saying. Also, Miley looks like she’s doing things just to get more attention. I mean of the magazine pictures, how would you not know that your going to be wearing that. The pictures are digital and your parents are there to see them appear on the screen giving the photographer permission to use them. I mean how can you not see that coming. COMMON SENSE!

4. a great role model, very mature for her age. (If you are dissapointed in her recent pics, its cus you are jelous that she can take a beautiful, graceful, classy picture and you can’t)

Seriously, Selena is very pretty and her features remind me of Rachel Bilson and Vanessa Hudgens. The girl might carve her own niche in the movie industry someday BUT all this talk of being the next Miley is probably a bit premature. People are only saying that she will replace Miley now only because of her current controversy. I believe Miley will pull through from all of this. She just got to play her cards right just like Vanessa did….move on and handle the controversy with grace and poise.
