It’s down to the final three contestants this season on American Idol — David Archuleta, David Cook and Syesha Mercado. But who’s going to win America’s heart?
Syesha definitely has singing chops but that’s hardly enough for Idol viewers anymore at this stage of the game. Archu-D2 was the early frontrunner in the competition but Cook definitely has pulled ahead with his carefully chosen arrangements and rock star performances.
Can Cook take the cake? Most likely.
Last week, interestingly enough, Archu-D2’s “stage dad from hell” was prohibited from working (read: attending arranging sessions) with his son on the show. David sure has a lot more pressure on him this week without his dad’s guidance this week on how to perform songs and what vocal changes to make. May the best David win!

for ALL those people who keep saying that DAVID C is cocky and arrogant and all that..who are you to judge…u dont even know what he’s been through and what he’s still going through….as for DAVID A…have you even seen his audition vid? b4 he even started singing, he already had an alibi, just in case that the judges wont like his voice..saying something like he underwent an operation..what’s with that?c’mom!!!!!!GET REAL!!!!

Archuleta is going to win the entire Enchilada….
Although I think David Archuleta has a better voice, I believe David Cook is going to win because AI wants him.
Both are very talented. David Cook is a cross between Daughtry & MatchBox 20….Awesome :)

Rockers Unite: Never before has a rocker took home the top prize on American Idol, it’s time for all rockers to unite and make our voices heard. On Tuesday night May 20th tune into American Idol and vote for David Cook. Don’t let the teeny boppers and grandmothers vote in a Nickelodeon wanabee ( David Archuleta ). We have seen good rockers in the past fall because rockers thought they were to hardcore to vote and we wound up with top 40 pop singers and broadway musical screechers perceived to be America’s choice for there favorite type of music. To quote a famous rock song pick up those phones and say WERE NOT GONNA TAKE IT and vote for David Cook.
David Cook deserves to win American idol because his talent surpasses that of Archuleta’s talent. Archuleta has a very limited vocal range for which he does his vocal rift tricks to gain unique style in his singing voice. This is evident with the same boring and bland performance week after week as if he is singing the same song. With an overly-rehearsed and limited vocal range, Archuleta inevitably never goes out of tune. People dub Archuleta as a robo-contestant and Archu-D2 because all his songs sound the same every week. This is also evident when he sings in a group with the AI contestants. In many of the performances, when it was his turn to sing, his voice did not blend in perfectly with the song and the rest of the group because he had his very own range. Clinging to that same range every week is a safety net in assuring that vocal mistakes are not committed, thus fooling people into thinking that Archuleta sings flawlessly with his pure voice. The masses think that flawless singing equals idol capability. Well, in fact many award-winning music idols do not sing flawlessly during live performances. Their differing vocal ranges are what enable them to peek the interest of the listeners, thus exuding an engaging performance. If one listens to the STUDIO version of Innocent of David Cook in its entirety, Cook demonstrates several vocal ranges. (Click the URL) Cook also demonstrated great musical artistry in his AI performances where in fact award-winning music artists such as Lionel Richie and Mariah Carey encouraged him to cut singles of his AI versions of their songs. Chris Cornell thought Cook did an great job of covering his version of Billie Jean. Simon Cowell, the acid-tongue critic states that Cook deserves to win American Idol. Paula Abdul stated that she is looking at the next American Idol while recently the AI producers are vying for Cook to win. To this effect, Cook’s talent greatly surpasses that of Archuleta’s talent, therefore Cook is the obvious fit for the American Idol title. Otherwise, AI is masquerading as a Star Search show for teen idols and not for true music/singing artists.

I was expecting David to sing ‘Longer’ with an uptempo beat, that’s how he practiced it and just the day before the producers told him you have to sing it this other way. David also told me that Syesha wanted to use strings and they said she couldn’t yet David Cook got to use strings so there are some weird games being played on American Idol.”
We are hearing one side of the story. Dean is basically badmouthing AI to the media that there is cheating going on to favor Cook. In David Cook’s last performance, the band accompinent sounded like trash which made Cook’s performance sound bad. The DC fans just kept saying ignore the band (the violins and guitar), just listen to his voice because it is still good. They all knew there was something wrong with the band in Cook’s last performance which was throwing him off. We are not hearing what AI changes they did to Cook’s performance on TV NEWS that evening and Cook is CLASSY enough not to babble this to the media.

When Cook was 17 yrs old….
“David Cook formed Axium in his junior year of high school alongside drummer Bobby Kerr. Despite their young age, Axium played with the best in the business. They shared the stage with notable acts like 8 Stops 7, Caroline’s Spine, Maroon 5, Fountains of Wayne, and Smash Mouth.[4] One of the band’s songs, “Hold,” was picked up by AMC Theatres Movie Tunes and was played before previews on over 20,000 screens nationwide.”
David Cook was matured enough to form a band in his junior year of HS without the help of his Daddy and a vocal coach. He did his musical arrangements on his own without his Daddy’s help.
While David Archuleta is heavily trained by his Dad aka music consultant and voice coach at the age of 17 and the Dad does his music arrangement for him or DA consults with Dad for the music arrangement.
So who is the REAL prodigy here?

DC: I don’t know if I have one, but I know that nobody can say they’ve worked harder for this or have wanted it more than me.
Other contestant’s talents surpass that of Archuleta’s. Archuleta should have been eliminated after Week 2 for having bland and boring performances. The only memorable song from Archuleta was Imagine. There are other contestants that have better and more professionally-sounding voices than Archuleta’s. People couldn’t stand boring performances from other contestants who had voices that were better than Archuleta’s, yet Archuleta stays in the competition. They get eliminated for bad song choice, etc. even though their performances were flawless. Archuleta’s Dad and vocal coach make this AI show look like a freaking Star Search show for teens with obsessive parents breathing down their necks. The REAL idol contestants who can stand on their own two feet are being eliminated. The real idol contestants should be independent singing/musical artists who can arrange their music. Archuleta grew up with extensive vocal training and he is still being coached in Idol and his Dad is deciding his musical arrangement. I feel like watching a singing contest for teens. AI will continue to have low ratings if 17 year olds like Sanjaya, Archuleta and teenage looking/acting contestants continue to dominate the votes. It is not the same old American Idol anymore where we search for true independent artists.
David Cook is by far the most talented performer and singer. He composes his own music, does his own arrangements, and has shown that he is very versitile and can sing anything. He already looks like a star. Even with the themes they’ve had to deal with he proved how he can change the arrangements to suit his style and make it contemporary. He is original and he takes risks. You have to take risks and think outside the box in the music industry. It was noted that he is ready to be a recording artist.
Archuleta has the tween support this year, which went to Jordin Sparks and Sanjaya last year, but what about next year when they move onto the next 16-17 year old. He plays it safe for the most part. He doesn’t have the stage presence that Cook has. He looks to the left, looks to the center, looks to the right and is boring to watch on stage. He has a good voice but his age will be a factor and that he’s basically a ballad person even though his fans say he doesn’t do just ballads. Frankly, as much as a good voice he has for a kid of 17, I find him boring. As far as I can see-he only plays the piano and he’s no Billey Joel. I just don’t see a 17 year old, playing the piano, singing mostly ballads being a superstar in the music business. He seems like a nice kid but another thing that works against him is that he looks much younger than 17, more around 13-14 and he certainly doesn’t dress like a normal 17 year old. He giggles too much, is not as articulate and doesn’t interview very well. That only emphasizes how young he is. Being “cute and cuddly” as his fans say, only gets you so far. I don’t see Archuleta ever, as he matures and ages, getting “sexy” and let’s face it, being HAWT and sexy adds to the “whole package” appeal.
Mature people prefer to listen, buy, and go to concerts with someone like Cook. I can’t see people older than 21 going to see a 17 year-old’s concert. He’ll never get the tween fever of the likes of the Hannah Montana phenomenon. His fans know how to power vote, but mega votes doesn’t mean a thing after American Idol is over. This is a popularity contest and the tweens have the time to sit and vote 2 hours for him and they’ll rip off his songs for free if they can.
Cook has far more iTunes sales and Top #1 hits during this season than Archuleta has. If Archuleta gets so many votes each week how come his sales don’t match his popularity?
At this point, it doesn’t matter who wins AI when you reach Top 2, it’s what you do after AI is over. There are no guarantees that either Cook or Archuleta will be big stars, but my money is on Cook.

That is so true! The only way that American Idol can gain back their audience is if they restrict contestants by age. You can’t be older than 29, but you should also have to be 21 as a minimum age, which we know is when you are of “legal” age.
They should also restrict votes and that you would only be allowed 10 votes per telephone number or 10 calls per IP address for those dialing softwares. If they did that, then maybe this could really be a program to find the best singer/performer than just a popularity contest.
I don’t know anybody (adults) who vote at all. They just watch and those people don’t have the time to vote because they don’t feel that it would matter because tweens use extraordinary methods to vote to always ensure their favorite wins. All those adults who just watch AI, all think David Cook is fantastic and that Archuleta is boring. They all say that AI is just a “popularity” contest and that tweens are voting for a kid because he’s a kid and nothing more.

David Cook is a GOLDMINE. AI producers want Cook to win. They want this goldmine. He is the only idol that produced many hits while being a contestant at AI. The public are buying these AI hits. He brought in the most money while being an AI contestant. Ryan Seacrest called Cook a FANTASTIC contestant. David Cook is oil under the ground that is waiting to explode. AI wants this OIL. And likewise David wants AI - he wants to win AI.

I was actually hoping Syesha wouldn’t get kicked off. Only because if she stayed and Archuleta didn’t it’d be more obvious that Cook is going to take it. Archuleta has a soft, soothing voice.. but in my opinion if they vote for him, he’ll go so far, then he’ll die out. I don’t like the idea of him missing school for this, especially if he doesn’t win. He should finish school, do what he’s gotta do.. then give AI a try again. I might have felt different if through-out the season he showed America that he can do anything. He’s good with slow ballads, although his music could knock me out in a matter of seconds. There is never any change with him, I only saw one side of him. Most of the people that vote for him are young, and are hardly seeing passed his “good looks.” David Cook has it all man! Right from the start he was amazing, and he will always be amazing. I think he’s had his ups and downs in the competetion, but atleast he knows how to make it his own. His downs never changed my mind, he has blown me away every week. Win or lose, he’s my idol.
