OlderCelebs Speak Out on Same-Sex Marriage Ruling
Celebrities are speaking out on the decision by the California Supreme Court to overturn the state’s ban on same-sex marriage. Here are just what a few of the he movers and shakers of the LGBT community had to say:
Ellen Degeneres: “I’m thrilled that the California supreme court overturned the ban on gay marriage. I can’t wait to get married. We all deserve the same rights, and I believe that someday we’ll look back on this and not allowing gays to marry will seem as absurd as not allowing women to vote. P.S. I’m registered at Crate & Barrel.”
T.R. Knight: “Our ‘certain inalienable rights’ are protected today. It makes me proud to live in a country that works to correct its sins.”
Melissa Etheridge: “I feel they have made an honest woman of me. What a wonderful blessing for us and the gay community. We’re moving forward. It makes me feel happy for the whole human race that we are finally getting out of our differences and coming together and we are putting this all behind us.”
Chad Allen: “I have to say I was completely shocked at the level of emotion of my own reaction. It’s not that I didn’t care, it’s just that I didn’t know that I cared that much… I’m thinking about getting married. I am in love with my partner, deeply madly in love with him, and though I am not ready to propose yet, it is in there.”

I think it’s great this state finally allows gay marriage. Also, I think it’s sad that some people are against it and it’s still not allowed in so many places…it’s seems undemocratic and ignorant.

The point to sex is to pro-create, and until all you men out there that are putting it to other men manage to get pregnant through your butt, there is nothing useful or right about it! Sex was created for one thing and one thing only, not for you sadly confused people to screw up and now make legal.

You do realise, animals really only have sex when the female is in heat, which is at specific times. In between, animals don’t have sex for pleasure or fun - they don’t make love. But on the other hand, animals don’t have sex to express power and hate (as in the case of a rape).
Human beings on the other hand, for some strange reason, will have sex even when there is NO possibility of pro-creation. 60 year old menopausal women, still enjoy sex with 70 year old men. Fancy that. Clearly, sex isn’t only about pro-creation. No where does it say in the bible that the devil makes the 60 year old menopausal woman have sex (and enjoy it) with the 70 year old man.
Or perhaps, it isn’t strange at all that human beings are different to animals. If you believe in Intelligent Design, then it will do you well to remember that God designed humans differently - to want sex not just for procreation but for fun, and as an expression of love, or in the negative sense, as an expression of power and hate (rape). and consequently to have sex, not just to procreate but for other purposes.

I remember reading the Exodus and Leviticus and how there are different rules for slaves and thinking, wow, god sanctions slavery?? :lol: :lol: if the religious can pick and choose what they now want to follow and believe, why are there choices any better than mine??
I think its interesting that Jesus never condemned homosexuals.
you know this isn’t about gay rights or progress… it’s about money and taxation. when you are married, you’re taxes are higher ESPECIALLY if you don’t have children. most gay unions don’t have children so they fall into higher tax brackets… and there are many gays who have alot of disposable income since it’s not spent on family. more money to the government!!!
besides, more marriages means more divorces and more people marrying for the wrong reasons (i.e. immigration, holly-hunter-style-entrapment, etc.)
they should be happier when they nationally amendment gay adoption laws.
#4 and #20, thank you. If life were easy this victory wouldn’t be nearly as sweet. Being straight you’ve been handed the right to marry from day one. Look at how much you value it. Drive through marriage chapels and reality game shows where the prize is a husband or wife. I know that my partner and I are very much in love and have been for years. This decision by the Cal. government means SO much to us! I don’t know about you, but with the world we live in today, NO ONE will ever convince me that love between two people is a bad thing, same sex or not. MY God only smiles at this decision.
Dear religious nuts: No one forces you to marry someone of the same sex. Nothing will change in your lives, nothing will be taken away from you. You can have continue with your 100% heterosexual lives, you can continue to think that you are living the life that your god wants you to and you are the ones who’ll end up in heaven … SO WHAT DOES IT MATTER TO YOU?
I rather go to hell and end up at a gay party than going to heaven and find myself surrounded by hateful, judgmental “good” Christians.

How can you people even be saying these things are correct? The government of California should have stood up for themselves and said that this was completly wrong. #14 is compeltly and totally right. Taylor- good job for you for sticking up for the Bible. That is exactly what it says and He does not approve of gays or gay marrage at all. You are right in every way what you posted. please don’t stop because we need more people in the world like you and you’re going to be the people that get to be the next president or government people for not backing down in what you believe. good job :) all you out there that would like to counter that; that is too bad bc she and I are correct and youare totally wrong.

In Spain it’s been legal since 4 years ago, and I don’t see we’re all burning in hell.
And I’m straight, but c’mon, if I can get married why can’t them? Anyway they can get married LEGALLY not in the CHURCH so it doesn’t affect YOU and your religious thoughts. God’s not accepting it, oh well, like they care, they care that the law accepts it and oh, you already lost that point.

These celebs are weak. Accept for ellen and melissa. Ellen never seemed vocal on these issues. Marriage is weak now. Cali judges-I disagree!
I’m only 16, but I agree with everyone who mentioned “I’m straight and I can get married, why can’t they?” and the ones that said “man wrote the bible”
I’m bisexual and let me tell you I hated coming to terms with it. I just wanted to be straight and to be honest, now, I’m embracing it. I don’t care if you are religious or not, but saying it is wrong that the law passed is wrong for all of you. You do not have the right to decide what these people do and neither should the government.
It is not up to you and personally, it isn’t fair that heterosexuals can get married and express their love for one another, but gays can’t because it’s supposedly ‘wrong’. It has been scientifically proven that gays do not choose who they want and love, but it’s instilled in their brain that they are meant for the same gender.
I also agree that it shouldn’t have passed…
CA voters already had there say years ago and we voted against gay marriage. Our voices will be heard again in November.
Here is something I don’t understand if you are married in a State that has same sex marriage and you move to a State that doe’nt are you still married
Jeffrey Dhamer was just loving his partners too. As most on this board agree “to each his own” I guess you all must agree that he was unnecessarily singled out as a “bad” person.
I support civil unions and equal rights for all Americans, but marriage between homosexuals, I can not support. Sorry.
Since marriage is a sacrament of God that allows a man and woman to marry in the eyes of God (it’s actually two people committing to each other with a priest/minister/rabbi/imam presiding as a “stand in” as witness to your pledge before God- the cleric doesn’t marry you, you marry each other) and there is nothing in the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament), Greek Scriptures (New Testament), the Koran or any other accepted scripture in the known world that approves homosexuality, it would be against any religion to accept gay marriage.
That’s why I support separation of church and state AND state rights. There should NO Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, but no state should be made to accept gay marriage if it is not acceptable by the citizens of that particular state.
This will be a HOT button issue in the Fall.

No, your marriage will not be recognized in another state if that state does not recognize or have laws against same-sex marraiges.
the question now is: will polygamists claims they have the right to marry 4 people? and will adults claim they have the right to marry minors? isn’t their rights being impinged on too?

First of all @ 65, you don’t give any info on why you don’t think it should have passed. because of rational thought or because of emotional feeling? or because you are just intolerant?
@68, how do you feel about all the other sins being committed, why is this one so different? why is it not acceptable? do you need a God to think for you or can you think for yourself? Why does God not accept? Isn’t it contradictory if he says that people need to love one another, yet he cannot accept gay marriage?
@70, you realize you cannot compare all the things you’ve just mentioned to gay marriage. you could probably pass a law that says 4 people can marry each other, but is it such a common thing for 4 people to want to marry? for one thing i’ve never heard of it before. if it’s a common phenomenon that 4 people want to marry, then yes, why not pass a law? who gives a ? second, with adults marrying minors, you realize this is a psychological, developmental and power-related issue. the fact is that minors don’t have aren’t fully developed yet, mentally and physically, and this mental underdevelopment is what makes them susceptible to exploitation if they’re with an older partner. the older partner is usually much more developed than the minor, which makes for an imbalanced relationship. i can’t believe i actually need to explain this.
Actually, I am for this resolution. I just know legally, it does open some interesting debates. I get the minor thing. But polygamists now have a ground for legalizing their marriages. What is the valid argument against polygamy? As with all laws, this resolution opens up the avenue for rights for other people like the ruling allowing interracial marriages led to this resolution. Many experts wonder how polygamists will fare in the court system after this ruling. My question is a legal one - not a moral one - as it is clear this issue and any issue presented to the Supreme Court is often a legal issue rather than a moral one. Legally, who gets to claim the right to marry now - who has not that right? THAT is what I am asking or stationg.
Ok number 52, then explaine why he made MAN and WOMAN!!! not MAN & MAN, or WOMAN & WOMAN. Don’t be stupid. Women do have what is called a cycle. I know many stupid women take the pills that make it to where you no longer have one, but surely it most women do still have one. There are certain times of the month during her cycle that she is definantly more interested in sex. Male of every kind are always more than happy to try and have sex anytime anywhere. Dog, human, whatever. But women are made different, and we know when we are truly interested and that happens to be at the time of conception! So play stupid all you want and pretend that sex is just a toy, and there will cont. to be unwanted pregnancies and std’s and of course homosexuality. Whe sex is just chalked up to” a good time ” there is going to be nothing but trouble. Try to justify it all you want, you just sound stupid.
