Celebrities are speaking out on the decision by the California Supreme Court to overturn the state’s ban on same-sex marriage. Here are just what a few of the he movers and shakers of the LGBT community had to say:
Ellen Degeneres: “I’m thrilled that the California supreme court overturned the ban on gay marriage. I can’t wait to get married. We all deserve the same rights, and I believe that someday we’ll look back on this and not allowing gays to marry will seem as absurd as not allowing women to vote. P.S. I’m registered at Crate & Barrel.”
T.R. Knight: “Our ‘certain inalienable rights’ are protected today. It makes me proud to live in a country that works to correct its sins.”
Melissa Etheridge: “I feel they have made an honest woman of me. What a wonderful blessing for us and the gay community. We’re moving forward. It makes me feel happy for the whole human race that we are finally getting out of our differences and coming together and we are putting this all behind us.”
Chad Allen: “I have to say I was completely shocked at the level of emotion of my own reaction. It’s not that I didn’t care, it’s just that I didn’t know that I cared that much… I’m thinking about getting married. I am in love with my partner, deeply madly in love with him, and though I am not ready to propose yet, it is in there.”

#42 I just wanted to state for the record that I am a gay man and sincerely support the victory in civil rights that we as a country have just witnessed in California. I meant the post as a bit of tongue-in-cheek to point out the flawed logic of people who point to a specific reference in the Bible against homosexuality, but feel that it’s O.K. to ignore the rest.
I was raised in a somewhat religious home, and I appreciate that my parents never forced anything on me and left it up to the kids to choose if we wanted to go to church or learn more about the Bible. They supported us all in our choices of learning and they support me still in understanding that I am gay because of the way I am made at a molecular level and not because I chose it or was influenced to it. I chose to pursue that knowledge when I was younger from religious leaders, and spent some time learning from the Bible. I was taught that the “Old Testament” was to be used as a historical reference to teach one how people lived and worshiped before Jesus Christ came and changed the way that man connected to the Divine. The “New Testament” was the way that set forth the doctrine that is supposed to be followed in lives lived today.
I do not claim to be an expert in any way of Christianity, especially since I no longer claim to be of that religion. But, I do find it interesting that none of the “haters” on here commented on the information that I posted. I’m not doing this as a baiting tactic to get a response, like I said, I just find it interesting.
Wow, taylor. I pitty you that you are now paranoid of the rapture because people are finally being treated as equals. Answer me this: How many times does the bible mention homosexuality? How many times does it mention love? If you ask me love far outways homosexuality, so obviously they didn’t care that much.
What happened to the “each to his own”? Everyone who supports gay marriage is just fine with closed-minded bible nuts staying exactly as they are and ranting about how we’re going to hell and what not. But everyone against gay marriage is insisting that gays and lesbians either change their lifestyle (to which they were given no choice) or be granted fewer rights than other people. Listen: If you don’t like gay marriage then don’t get one! It’s as simple as that. Don’t make others suffer for what you believe when we’re not making you change anything for what we believe.
Oh! And just as a side note dolphins are the only animals other than humans who have sex for pleasure. It’s not just us. Ha, ha.
Oh, and another thing. For those of you who think that we have a choice in the matter of our sexuality. How come so many gay teens are driven out of their homes by closed-minded parents? How come so many commit suicide? Because they chose that life? Yeah, right. It’s because they were not given a choice and idiots like you left them homeless or dead. Yeah, that’s loving your neighbor.
#66 The person comparing gay marriage to Jeffrey Dahmer “loving” his partners seems to have a very hard time understanding the concept of “TWO CONSENTING ADULTS”. So does the polygamist argument, and the marrying minors.

Okay, this is to all of those who think that the GLBT community a) needs saving; b) the straight community needs saving from the GLBT community; and/or c) quoting scripture in order to condemn a segment of the population and to effectively render and/or maintain their existence as a second class citizenry while refusing to learn the facts and beg off whenever a semantic discussion arises. (I’m a pretty firm believer that when discussing matters of such importance - to either side- semantic discussions are imperative even if only to literally know what each side is talking about.
I’ll start off with the scripture angle…
Consider this…
1) The Roman Catholic Church freely admits (though in rather small print) that not all of the terms claimed to define or address homosexuality are a) actually a set of words that may or may not mean what the RCC claims.
2) They got the “number of the beast” *wrong*
3) If the King James Version is more your style, one would do well to keep the following in mind:
A) King James had final say over translations, not monks or clerics.
B) The KJV was commissioned in 1611
C) The word “homosexual” was not coined until the mid to late 19th Century ( the first mention was c. 1869 in Germany and did not find its way to any notable form of English vernacular until 1892) and was not based on religious context, but political.
On the Legal front…
In the United States of America, if there is no law ~against~ (and by “law” I mean one that is determined to be constitutionally sound and is not in contradiction to the sentiments and enumerated rights contained within both federal and state level constitutions. (the 9th amendment makes it quite clear… “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.”)
Yes, there is a matter of states’ rights and their ability to determine matters of marriage. However, neither state that has overturned a ban on same-sex marriage has, in any way, impeded or outright denied the states’ individual rights to govern on the matter.
In the case of Mass. the legislature had 180 days to find a way to change the legal definition of marriage. They didn’t. It was by the legislature’s inactions that “ssm” was -for lack of a better phrase- left legal.
As far as CA is concerned, the domestic partnership bill was deemed to be in contradiction to the state’s constitution. It’s not certain what will become of any grass roots efforts to initiate a ballot measure to amend CA’s constitution, but for now, “ssm” is as it has always been *legal*. The only difference between now and a few years ago (in the case of MA) or a few weeks ago, is there is finally recognition of said right by a branch of the government whose sole purpose is to interpret and uphold the law.
You don’t have to like the GLBT community, you don’t have to like the fact that the law is on our side, you don’t even have to like the fact that you don’t have to like it. However one might do well to remember that…

ok, for numbers 74 and 75 Just so you know, there are 19 other countries that allow gay marriage and have for years, including The Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, Spain, and England. But I guess it should come as no surprise that your thought process would be so narrow as to forget that there are other countries in this world then ours.

I really think that same sex marriage should be legalized in the whole US it should not be against people’s “religions” to judge love. Let people love who they want to let people live thir lives and be happy.
I am not GLBT but I believe in equal rights and I am nobody to judge people. We are all human regardless of who we choose to love. Like (Statement of Affirmation of Same Sex Relationships) said “Each individual’s journey through life is unique. Some will make this journey alone, others in loving relationships - maybe in marriage or other forms of commitment. We need to ponder our own choices and try to understand the choices of others. Love has many shapes and colors and is not finite. It cannot be measured or defined in terms of sexual orientation.”
God does not see color, or sex besides who gives a person the right to deny others their own rights. This world is full of hate, we should let others live and choose their path. Those who are against GLBT stop judging them and cont
